Fortune House in Chelmsford

I called to order for collection. It sounded like the woman was distracted and clearly was as when she read the order back to me it wasn't right. Ordered over £70 worth of food. They got a few of the dishes wrong. Theres no way kung pao chicken tastes like that! Just simple sweet and sour chicken is what they gave! I also ordered one crispy chilli beef and one crispy chilli chicken. They gave both chicken. No answer when i called about the issue. Probably in a rush to get it all made. The only reason I didn't give lower is because the food tasted nice and they weren't stingy with the portions. Just disgusted at the service.

Very enjoyable, good helpings and at a reasonable price. Never had any problems and alway courteous on the ‘phone, food always delivered hot.

Worst Chinese takeaway ever. No taste to the dinner. Chicken balls were hard and cold and the batter on it was too thick and greasy. Chicken and mushroom taste so bland. Rather would have had beans on toast and would have enjoyed it more and save lots of money.

Absolute scum. Phoned them to complain that we were missing dishes, and the food that we did receive was burnt or soggy on a £90 order.It also took over 2 hours to be delivered. Was offered £20 off, of which we obviously declined. I was told I’d have a call back in 40 minutes from the manager, when I phoned back after 50 minutes I was told “closed” and they then ignored my calls for half an hour. Do not waste your time ordering here, order anywhere else. These people are rude and do not care about their food, service or delivery times. Luckily Deliveroo have now given a full refund. AVOID AT ALL COSTS

I get takeaway from here a lot and is nice every time. Always fresh tasting and still hot. I also believe it’s very reasonably priced- friendly staff too. :)

Not the same anymore curry sauce was watery and runny the chow mein was to salty rice was bland will not be ordering from them anymore.

Used this venue for takeaways many times, and I will continue to do so.

Waited 2.5 hours & They lied said a £60 order had been handed to us and it wasn’t even delivered. Don’t waste your time or money. Appalling service!!

Have ordered a few times and generally good. Tonight wasn't up to the normal standards, chicken curry was bland and every dish we had was salty and tasted the same with a sweet sauce. We ended up throwing over half away as it wasn't nice! Very disappointing..new chef?? Update.. Checked my bank and payment has been made to noodle king!!!!! I definitely wouldn't of ordered!!!!

We used to use this takeaway regularly but the last few times we have been there the quality has been less and less. Tonights chicken wings had been incinerated till they were inedible and just broke into pieces. The ribs were nearly as bad. Never again…..we are done with you.

Not fussed about chinese takeaways in chelmsford as never had a good one and dont think the food travel too well but omg this takeaway tonight was amazing. Never had one from heer before only when it was called Ho Ho's which was fab food. This was just as lovely really enjoyed it. all fresh tasty ingredients and i am fussy. Will def be ordering again soon.

Not really sure where to start. My order was wrong so we will start there. I tried to call and not only did they not answer there was no answering service. My special chow mien was just slimy chicken chow mien. My spring roll literally had mold growing on it, so obviously made ages ago and reheated... that would explain why the ends were scolding hot and the middle was frozen!! And just for extras and the most bizarre thing I have ever incurred from a Chinese takeout.... a pot of vinegar with an onion in it? I only put vinegar on chips and stupidly i thought it was plum sauce and poured it over my noodles. I have been throwing up all night and I only ate 2 bites of the whole meal. I am demanding a refund. Can't get through on the phone so I will have to go down there but food poisoning is something I take seriously as I am already going through chemo for cancer. I rarely treat myself to a takeout and when I do have always used Fortune House and have told everyone how amazing it is, so not sure if it is under new management? All I know is, please avoid at all costs! and trust me you will pay for it and not just in money but on the toilet all night!

Delivery order placed nearly two hours ago and still waiting and their line is now constantly engaged. We are regular customers and always tip the delivery driver but due to missing items, food not being as per description and late delivery we will no longer give this place our custom…….if yiu can’t handle the business DONT take the order.

Decent portion sizes and a lot of choice. Delicious. If you've had a rough day/week and want to slob out with a comforting takeaway, this is the one in my opinion.

Unreal food will be ordering more often

Friendly, Fun, Kind, and the foods great, give them a chance my bet is you won't regret it. Collection obviously, but delivery through the normal apps and direct are available, deliveries arrive within the timeframe estimated by the staff.

Very bad customer service receptionist was rude had to ring to ask where food was,then was told another 20 minutes which made it nearly 2 hours,please use another Chinese as food was terrible,please stay away from fortune house!!!!!!worst Chinese in chelmsford.

Curry sauce was bland. Hardly any flavour to it. Chicken chow mien lacked chicken. Few skinny strips of chicken. Not cheap either. I won’t revisit.

Had a duck curry, the fat was left on the meat, curry sauce bland and tasteless, barbecue sauce with the ribs tasteless. Can of drink also missing from the order, won't be wasting money here ever again.

Been getting collection takeaways from Fortune House for 15+ years. Not that long ago that we had a new menu with price increases. Now prices have gone up again but the last straw for us is they have now also stopped offering 10% discount on collection orders. Combined effect of new pricing is about £4.80 on a meal for four or another dish. Very sorry to say we will not be returning and will find another takeaway with collection discount. No way to reward loyal customers.

Don’t normally order out, but fancied a treat. Had the chef’s special fried rice meal which was just perfect. Friendly staff, would recommend and certainly order from here again.

My Mum came over to visit and we ordered from the closest Chinese which happened to be Fortune House. Probably the BEST Chinese take out I have had! Had chow mien, spring rolls, egg rice, black bean sauce and of course, shredded duck and 6 pancakes. Got loads of everything. Used the rest of the duck as a side dish to our beef chow mien and could not finish all of it. The spring rolls are delicious! Huge! We share one between us and I kept the second for the next day hahaha Deliver was very quick and the delivery lady was really polite. Can't recommend this enough! Ordering again tonight and having a vegetarian dishes as there is such a wide selection. THUMBS UP!

Having read the reviews, we decided to give this place a try. Firstly they got the order wrong. Despite repeating the order to me over the phone, we were one dish short. The pancake rolls were full to cabbage and very little else - never had them like that before. Not nice. Other food was ok, but nothing special. Won't be going back.

Had a takeaway from here at the weekend and it was really good. We phoned the order in at 19:20 Saturday evening and was told it would be 10 to 15 minutes, we arrived about 12 minutes later and the meal was ready. We had Mongolian Crispy Lamb, Salt & Pepper Spare Ribs, Pancake roll, Chicken in Garlic sauce, Special chow mien & Special chop Suey. Every thing was piping hot and good perfectly. The staff were very pleasant, ordering and paying very easy and we had an excellent take away. Will definitely use again when in the area.

Nice fresh Chinese food! egg fried rice was nice & freshly cooked which you can tell by the colour (pet hate when chinese make their egg fried rice brown!) Squid & Prawns both nice and crispy. Recommend!

Since moving to Chelmsford from London we hadn’t found our “GO TO CHINESE” yet until this evening. The food is delicious, fresh & not greasy & we get a free bottle of Coke which is what we would have got in London. We tried a few of the others (they didn’t offer a free coke for a large order SAN & Eden Garden) but this one is a WINNER 🍜 fortune house you have some new customers 😃🙌🏼 we will be back 😋

Ordered from here a few times now due to the excellent food. Delivery varies but had it delivered within 15 minutes tonight and the driver was extremely friendly and polite. Best takeaway Chinese in Chelmsford I know of, would highly recommend.

Since changing chefs the food has changed, used to be 5/5 and now I think it’s a 3. still lovely food but just not as flavoursome as it once was.

I ordered Diet Coke, was supplied with Coke because they ran out - but I wasn’t told this until the food was brought to me. A courtesy call letting me know in advance and giving me an option would have been nice considering I don’t drink Coke. Food was delivered early. Chips were nice but the crispy duck was dry. Squid was fine. Not overly impressed and particularly annoyed by the restaurant staff member’s tone over the phone. Shan’t be ordering again.

If I was able to give a 0 star i would, once i ordered the food and collected it, i got home opened the food and found a dead fly in it, not on that the food was also warm on the outside but cold in the middle like if they had put it in the microwave or something. DEFIANTLY NOT RECOMMENDED!

We ordered last Saturday night by the just eat app. We’re told the food would be delivered approximately 20:25, them received an e-mail to say 21:00 ok it was Saturday night not a problem. The food arrived 21:15 stone cold and everything had to be reheated in the microwave. Believe me Chinese and especially banana fritter is not nice reheated! Rang to make a complaint to be told the manager/owner was busy but would ring me back. We always use this Chinese but Over the last few times have been very disappointed. I’m still waiting for the phone call!!! That’s just plain rude!

ordered at about half 7, order said it was going to be 8.45 then that changed to 8.55 and then they eventually turned up at 9.15. didn't have a go at the driver as it's not his fault and the food was piping hot when he got here, guessing it was either forgotten or they just were disorganised with the orders as it should take two hours from order to delivery

Had delivery .. food was shockingly poor .. best way to describe it was like warmed up pre cooked food. But cherry on cake was RAW dumplings and the wife being ill.When I spoke to them .. they were overjoyed to refund me the money for the raw meal. Nothing else and totally dismissed my wife being ill.DONT TOUCH THIS PLACE .. Bloody awful is an understatement !

Tenemos uno para llevar un mes como un regalo. Hemos ido al restaurante chino aquí durante 14 años. Ha mejorado dramáticamente. La comida era deliciosa, bien sazonada y condimentada, porciones generosas, bien presentadas y rápidamente preparada. Pedimos en línea, tenía un email para confirmar el pedido y me peldaño cuando estaba listo para recoger. 5* la comida y el servicio. Disfrutamos: sopa de chili crujientes, ganó un montón de carne, langostinos dulce y agria king y opciones vegetarianas sabrosas para mi hijo.
