This hotel was quite nice but was not marvellous. Hotel room was nice, big comfy bed and roll top bath. Good shower too. We had a dinner bed and breakfast deal and the dinner was a shambles. No vegetables at all to have with dishes, which was odd. Dinner service poor also. Great barman in the underground bar though. Breakfast was ok/good. We would stay again but would not eat here again.

We stayed at the hotel and ate in the bistro on the first night. The menu is quite limited but decent bistro choices. The food was OK but by no means special. Liver parfait was very nice but the brioche toast was overcooked. Hake and sea bass both fine but messily presented. Service was very friendly. The real problem was that the restaurant was almost empty- on a Friday night in peak summer season so it made for a poor atmosphere. Not a restaurant we’d return to

This restaurant has easily become one of my favourite restaurants in Cambridge because of our server Attila. From the start we received amazing service from Attila as he made sure we were satisfied with our food. We sat indoors for lunch, but he then prepared us a table outdoors and gave us free orange juice drinks for a change of scenery and said it would look good in our photos, as he saw us snapping away with our cameras earlier on. Otherwise, the food is also delicious, and is at a good price for the quality. Would definitely recommend Bistro du Vin as a place to eat! Hopefully you will come across Atilla as well.

My friends and I went to Du Vin Bistro for lunch, and it was the best meal we’ve had at Cambridge so far, and I HIGHLY recommend coming here! We ordered a ribeye steak, which was so delicious, tender, and well seasoned. The sauces and presentation were so good as well. I also thoroughly enjoyed their selection of champagnes and cocktails, and we also got their ratatouille and tiger prawns—amazing as well. We demolished everything because it was so tasty. This meal altered my brain chemistry. Our server was AhiLa and he was the kindest person ever and really put in so much effort to make our experience at the restaurant amazing. He even set up tables outside so we could take photos outside with our desserts, and prepared free drink for us to look nice in the photos! Du Vin Bistro, we will be going back to try the afternoon tea and get the steak again. <3

This is a lovely hotel well situated near the centre of the City. It has a warm and inviting atmosphere which is felt throughout the hotel. We had a delightful room with an "upstairs" bedroom from the bathroom and shower room area. A very comfy bed with tea, coffee and biscuits provided in the room. The service was superb throughout, from reception to dinner and breakfast, where the offer is of both a cooked breakfast and a range of fruit yogurt, toast, cereal etc. We were impressed by the helpful and efficient service at dinner and breakfast. The hotel is within walking distance of the City and the botanical gardens which is well worth a visit. Highly recommended!

Went tot the bistro to have lunch and were the only clients and the waiter couldn’t even bring the correct drinks order. The table we were seated at was dirty with some cutlery missing and half a glass of milk left. The waiter took so long to come back with the correct drinks that we left without being served.

On arrival we had pre- dinner drink in the bar. Bartender was on his phone with his back to us until we politely called ‘hello’. He then served a large G&T with no lemon and gave my husband a handled latte glass for his beer. The round of two drinks being over £20!! Come on hotel Manager, this is a joke right?!?! The Bistro offer a tasting menu which was not available to our disappointment. Why?? (I’d even emailed to ask if it would be available and didn’t receive a response). Not good enough hotel Manager! They did not have the wine we chose from the menu. However, food served was good. Oh also hotel Manager, look at the tangled flag hanging outside the hotel. That’s not really good either is it. Why don’t you either get it sorted or take it down? What a shame.

Had a great time here on Wednesday. Abraham was our waiter and made us feel like we'd been going there for years despite it being our first time. He made my partner's birthday feel even more special and is a credit to the restaurant! The food was also incredible so those in the kitchen are clearly doing their bit too! Definitely recommend this place!

Shocking food. Shocking service. We were a party of 11 and apparently it was because we did not pre order. Food was served in stages. Steak, followed 5 mins later by chips, followed 10 mins later with peas. Some sides did not appear at all. Manager blamed us...an gave 10% discount and a bottle of wine. Not good enough. Discount should have been at least 50%. Will never eat with you again. Very dissapointed given that your charges are so high.

Lets start with the good point, the waiter on duty 22/01/23, was very good, everything else was very poor indeed. An hour before our Sunday lunch meal we received a phone call to say due to a delivery failure there would be no roasts today but we could choose from the main menu, disappointing but it was to late to switch. We arrived to be told the bar downstairs was not open which was another disappointment as we wanted a drink before the meal in the lounge/bar, we were then given another reason for no roast, this time the chef decided against during the morning, we was also told the restaurant had been having delivery problems for weeks so I am not sure what the truth is but by the time we left the whole restaurant had only had two tables, and 5 people in it, the last time we came here for Sunday Lunch, admittedly several years ago the place was packed out and the Sunday lunch was fantastic. I suspect the reason why no roast was being offered was because the restaurant had just two bookings! The food we did have from the menu was of a very poor standard, 2 of the 3 starters to be fair were ok, one poor, all three main meals were more the standard of a very cheap pub than a nice restaurant. My advice is if you want a Sunday Roast go elsewhere!

I booked Hotel du Vin Bistro for a family meal. We were in Cambridge to visit my daughter who is in her first term at the university. Having been there a couple of times before, Hotel du Vin struck me a safe and reliable option. Sadly, it seems to be in the final stages of a terminal decline and was truly awful. What was wrong? 1. The restaurant was empty. This was 8pm on a saturday night. A good sign? Most definitely not. 2. Through a horribly tinny speakers, they piped dated pop music into the restaurant a high volume. By dated I mean a playlist that included such things as Freddie and the Dreamers, Renee and Renato, Brotherhood of Man etc. This musical offal was played at such high volume that it made conversation difficult. 3. They no longer serve fish. It's obvious why; it goes off quickly and they have very few patrons. 4. The staff do their best, but they are poorly trained, if trained at all. 5. The food they actually do serve is absolutely horrible. In summation, it was like having dinner in a motorway service station but at ten times the price. This is a terrible and expensive restaurant and should be avoided.

Website states the off-site parking costs around £28 for 24 hours at their recommended car park. This is misleading as We had to pay £49.30 for less than 24 hrs. I also feel the room was overpriced and the cooked breakfast was pretty minimal.

Tuve que informar 2 problemas con el baño que no se solucionaron durante mi estadía, por lo que solo puedo esperar que los siguientes chicos se beneficien de mi experiencia con el grifo que gotea toda la noche y las inundaciones cuando necesitaba usar el toallero.Operan un sistema de reserva de desayuno que no hacen cumplir, por lo que puede llegar a tiempo para que le digan que no hay habitación en la posada. El desayuno era muy bueno y el personal hizo todo lo posible para ofrecer un servicio de desayuno. Una gran posición para hacer turismo, pero me decepcionó. Esto no fue como cualquier otra estancia en el Hotel du Vin que he experimentado.

Estancia corta fantástica en este maravilloso hotel. Situado en una perfecta ubicación tranquila a poca distancia de todo. El hotel está ubicado en la ubicación perfecta, todo a poca distancia a pie pero lo suficientemente alejado para estar tranquilo y no escuchar el tráfico, etc.Sarah en la recepción nos recibió, es brillante, fue realmente una buena persona y realmente se interesó en nosotros, muy amable y servicial.Nos quedamos en el estudio con el que me quedé impresionado, por el precio quedé asombrado por el tamaño y la calidad de la habitación, ¡el baño más increíble que ahora estamos usando como inspo para cuando redecoremos!El desayuno también fue impecable, incluso con las pautas gubernamentales vigentes, realmente no importaba en absoluto y creo que funcionó mejor de esa manera.No puedo esperar a volver y quedarme en la misma habitación. Realmente es uno de los mejores hoteles en los que me he alojado.

Came here for a business dinner. I had a terrine starter which was ok but a bit ordinary. I followed that with a duck ‘shepherds pie’ which rather lacked and meaningful gravy/ sauce under the mash. It was ok but wasn’t anything special at all. Desert was an apple cobbler. This was more interesting presenting as a plate of apples and other fruits with scones on top. Overall nothing was unpleasant but nothing made me think’ I’ll come here again’.

My husband and I live in Cambridge and - for the first time – decided to treat ourselves to breakfast in the Bistro du Vin. We were seduced by the online menu describing the Country Table breakfast buffet, which promised “a wide selection of cereals” and “a selection of delicious flavours [of yoghurt]” among much else. Not cheap, at £13.95 for just the buffet and £16.95 for the buffet and a hot dish, but for a treat… I can safely say that it was definitely not worth that money. The cereals were simply those little boxes you get at any Travelodge, while the selection of yoghurt flavours was two: raspberry and mango. There was also only one variety of cheese. We asked for a mixed basket of toast and were given (cooled) brown bread only. Our table was not tended once during our meal, so that we ended up stacking our used dishes on the empty table next to us. When the waiter finally cleared that table, he simply wiped it with a paper towel and pushed all the crumbs and other bits onto the floor – in fact, the whole place looked grubby, and the waiter sneezed while he was waiting at the kitchen to collect someone’s food (thankfully not ours). On the plus side, my porridge and my husband’s galette were very good, and the coffee was hot (although very weak). Our bill came to over £30, which is a significant outlay for breakfast. With excellent service, we could have overlooked the rather disappointing buffet – there was certainly no feeling of “plenty” or sumptuousness about it (I've seen better breakfast buffets in country B&amp;Bs). But with the lacklustre service and the poor cleanliness, the whole visit was disappointing.When I contacted the hotel afterwards, after several days and reminder emails I was finally sent a boilerplate apology email ("It remains our primary objective and first commitment, I can assure you that we are always committed to deliver the best food &amp; service that Hotel Du Vin is known for. All things considered it is clear that we fell short of your expectations, and I would like to personally apologise for your experience on this occasion.") which ignored all the specific points I had made. This is not a restaurant that cares too much about its customers.

We went today for my Mum’s birthday, it started when we turned up they had only got a reservation for 6 when in fact I had phoned and increased it to 11 3 weeks prior to the booking. We then waited 20 mins and had to ask for menus and for drinks, they took the drinks and food order together and the food ended up arriving before the drinks! They ran out of a couple of items on the menu, not really the quality or service you expect for the price you pay and from a place like this, we won’t be rushing back! It wasn’t like it was busy either

El entrante de sopa, el plato principal y el postre eran mediocres en el mejor de los casos, pero la mesa del mercado era increíble, un montón de mariscos frescos, huevos escoceses, terrina, pan fresco caliente. . Es una pena que los otros platos no fueran más emocionantes, desearía haber tenido solo los artículos de mesa del mercado. Como principal, mi compañero tenía el bistec que estaba seco y recocido (pidió medio), mi tortilla estaba nadando en aceite, y no había verduras para acompañar la comida. El servicio no fue excelente, sin embargo, creo que la camarera era nueva y no entendía algunas de las cosas que le preguntamos. El lugar es agradable y tranquilo.

Booked a table for the chateaubriand/wine offer as we were staying in Cambridge and like Hotel du Vin. Waited 10 minutes before complaining that we hadn't had a menu yet! The service was dreadful with lots of staff constantly rushing up and down past us and the wooden floors made it worse. Lots of complaints about the service and waiting. We had the houmous and tacos with olives to start followed by chateaubriand which was cooked nicely but a long wait. Got the bill wrong and overcharged us, which was rectified. Not the evening we had hoped for and spoilt by young staff and lack of management direction.

Esta era la segunda vez que almorzábamos el domingo en el Bistro, y gran parte de la comida era excelente como antes, particularmente el bufé de inicio y la lubina, pero la carne asada fue decepcionante - "el estándar de la cena escolar" fue el veredicto. La camarera se tomó la molestia de preguntar cómo queríamos que se cocinara (muy raro) pero se sirvió recocido hasta el punto de insípido. Las verduras eran una vergüenza, particularmente la coliflor que era gris y casi no identificable. Ah, sí, y encontré una espina de pescado en mi sopa de espinacas (estoy tentado a decir wtf pero soy demasiado educado). Buen sorbete y buena tarta de limón para budín. Staff just ignored customers and consistently left dirty crockery and glasses on tables. Buffet table was only restocked if you reminded staff it was empty and then they try to stick a service charge on your bill!

We had a nice quiet dinner in this hotel restaurant. Hubby said the tuna was the best he had ever had and he enjoyed the cheeseboard. I enjoyed the homemade chips and the zinfandel was excellent. Wasn't so keen on breadcrumbs on the escargot. Mature clientele and some hotel residents on business made for a relaxed atmosphere- definitely the kind of place you could eat alone without feeling conspicuous. Service was pretty good and the head waiter was very helpful and managing some quality control with the bar staff. This is a quirky restaurant- visiting the loos is via an underground warren- past the bar and wine cellars- mind your head! approx. £200 for 3 course dinner for 3 with 1.5 bottles of wine.

Nos alojamos aquí por una noche durante unas vacaciones. No me puedo quejar de este establecimiento. Nuestra suite, que lleva el mismo nombre Madfish, estaba bellamente decorada, meticulosamente presentada y limpia. El servicio fue acogedor y cordial, incluso para dos australianos muy desfavorecidos que estaban demasiado cansados para conversar. La ropa de cama y el colchón eran de primera categoría. De lejos, la cama más cómoda en la que he dormido durante nuestros viajes. Madfish tiene una cabina de ducha espaciosa y maravillosa, así como un magnífico baño con patas enrollables. Un montón de agua caliente. Decidimos cenar en nuestra habitación y sin duda era una buena cena. Tanto el cassoulet como la sopa de cebolla francesa estaban deliciosos, al igual que el desayuno a la mañana siguiente. Se ha pensado mucho en este hotel para promover la belleza, el lujo y el ambiente. Todos se han logrado con creces. Bien hecho. Estos australianos definitivamente volverán.

My friend and I ate here during our recent trip to Cambridge because we were staying in the hotel. The food was really good but the service was rather patchy. On our second visit we waited a long time for our food and they missed off a side dish, the people next to us had similar issues. Overall, I would recommend it though.

Booked Sunday lunch as a treat it started well lovely girl greeted us and it went downhill from there. Our order was taken for lunch and we ordered a bottle of wine. About 15 minutes later I watched one of the waiters trying to deliver our wine to another table but we did eventually get it! I then watched 3 of the waiting staff standing in the corner near the kitchen looking lost. They then walked around the restaurant looking around but not actually checking if dishes needed clearing or someone wanted a drink. Each time a large table near us wanted a drink they physically got up to speak to a waiter. The service was painfully slow and you began to wonder if the staff knew what they were supposed to be doing. It was a shambles. There was a complete lack of leadership and the only person who appeared to have something about them was the young woman called Annet who originally greeted us she was excellent she was trying to placate those who were complaining and chase up the non delivery of food and drinks. Sadly for the Bistro we were not the only ones who complained about the very poor and erratic service. We arrived at 1.45 for lunch and left at 4.30. We don't mind leisurely but a 45 minute break between finishing the starter and waiting for your main meal is pushing it. An extremely disappointing experience.

Sunday lunch booked as previous great service in other Hotel Du Vin locations. I should have read the reviews here as they were true...... painfully slow service, waiting staff that do not communicate or know what they are doing - had to be prompted throughout our lunch. Dirty wines glasses and hair in the vegetables - no leadership in the restaurant and overall not the standard you would expect. We were not alone in our service complaints - they did waive the wine cost plus one of our meals but we will be looking elsewhere when we return to Cambridge - I suggest other reviewers do likewise.

Stayed here for one night with my wife. Great location for wandering around central Cambridge. Lots of cafes, restaurants and bars in the local area. There is pay and display parking outside for 2hrs as well as valet parking for longer durations although this is quite expensive at £30pn.

I can’t express my dissapointment with this place ! We were at table of 10, waited on by 5 incompetent waiters as much in lack of skills, emotional intelligence and basics abilities ! We ordered our main course for which we had a 45min wait! I ordered fish and chips , a very strong rancid smell was coming from the kitchen and I didn’t suspect for one second that it was coming from the fish they were busy cooking for me ! How did the cook manage to not notice that I don’t know! They proceeded with serving the rotten fish in moist batter on my plate ... as soon as I cut thru it the strong smell that had been trapped between the fish and the batter came out ..it was so strong that it made my eyes water ! I sent it back of course .... not one attempt of apology ...not one ! Waited another 30min for my meal that came in the form of a very badly deep fried chicken ! Appalling and would absolutely avoid ..unless you want to play Russian roulette with your health and sanity

We booked as a family of five (youngest member 16 years old) for a special meal on 23 December. (Our previous meal some years ago had been pretty disappointing in terms of service level but we thought we would try again as we really like the setting and the menu suits all members of our party). The service was much improved this time around - however the food itself was really quite disappointing. My husband did not enjoy his main course (which he said was really quite mediocre) and two other family members were extremely disappointed by the prawns in their chosen main course, which were completely tasteless. (In fairness, my steak tartare was pretty good!) The prices in this establishment are on the high end of the scale and we really felt that the food we were served did not warrant the total cost of the evening - especially as this was intended as a 'special' pre-Christmas family meal. We will not be giving this restaurant a third try!

Used the conference facilities which were excellent then had a drink in the below ground bar whilst the room was prepared for dinner. Despite having ordered from a limited but interesting menu on arrival, we waited an hour for our starters to be served. There were 8 of us, only 2 had hot dishes! Unfortunately as it was a school night and some had long distance journeys home, we had to abandon before the main course. Our time constraints were made clear to the staff on numerous occasions but they didn't appear to be interested A shame for the event organiser who had put such effort into the planning. Sadly I won't recommend,nor will I return.

We went for sunday lunch with a ‘Wowcher’ deal so got it at a really good price. The food was really good, great value even for full price £26.95 for 4 courses. The service was terrible! So slow! The table was booked for 2pm and we left at 4.45pm! To be fair you got soup which was tomato, everyone gets that included so they should of served it straight away. You then got a buffet of cold fish, prawns, bread etc which was lovely but no one explained or invited us up to start that course. Then when it came to paying no one knew how to put in the Wowcher code etc and the bill kept getting added up higher than what we expected. They automatically put 20% service charge on which we didn’t pay.....

Recibieron mal el pedido de mis novios, así que tuvo que enviar la espalda y la mía estaba fría y sin sabor. El huevo revuelto parecía haber sido quemado y raspado de la parte inferior de la sartén y se sirvió frío, la 'tostada' era como un pan de galleta, estaba tan rancio y la 'salsa de tomate' apenas podía verse. El aguacate estaba magullado y negro. ¡Mmm! Esperamos otros 10 minutos para que llegara el pedido de mis novios, pero para esa fecha ya había pasado la hora de salida y tuvimos que dejarlo para poder ir y arreglar nuestra salida. Le expliqué lo que le había pasado a la señora de la recepción y ella eliminó nuestro cargo por el servicio de aparcacoches, un gesto bien, supongo que nos ahorró 30, pero preferiría haber tomado un desayuno decente, en lugar de eso tuvimos que buscar el nuestro después de la salida. ! Cuando llegué a casa me di cuenta de que me había dejado una camisa en el armario, llamé el lunes y me dijeron que me buscarían y me devolverían la llamada. No hubo llamadas para el martes, así que volví a llamar y sucedió lo mismo: todavía tengo que recibir una llamada o un correo electrónico. ¿DÓNDE ESTÁ MI CAMISA? ! ¿Cómo puede faltar esto? Me arrepiento de reservar este hotel y siendo 350 peor, no valía la pena incluso 150 en mi opinión.

Having decided to give Hotel du Vin bistro another chance after past disappointing visits, we tried to be positive. Sadly it is worse than ever, a recent refurb has taken all character away and replaced that with cold unimaginative décor, not a plant in sight, no subtle music, no atmosphere at all, The food was equally meagre and poorly presented on plain dishes too big for the small portions. The bar has also been attacked and given the same cold make over with some extra bright lights! Outside was even worse - the cigar shack has had a new edition of what looked like a car boot find table which was covered with dirty coffee cups full of cigarette ends, and then to finish of the evening the staff were obviously using one of the hotel rooms as a dog kennel/room, and the poor dog was sadly constantly barking. Staff came out of the kitchen to try and calm the dog after complaints, but then just returned to the kitchen and the dog continued - unbelievable!!

I went here with my mum and sister for my mum's birthday. I booked over the internet and arrived half an hour early, but were seated straight away. There was a varied choice of teas to drink, which came in large teapots, enough for at least 4 cups each. The afternoon tea itself was amazing, not your usual sandwiches but croissants, tarts and brioche rolls with various fillings. The warm scones that came out after were delicious, followed by sorbet, lemon meringue pie, rhubarb and custard doughnut and a dark chocolate teacake. To top it all off was what tasted like a pina colado flavoured candy floss. We spent a good 2 hours enjoying the food. The staff were nice and attentive and Cambridge itself is a lovely city to visit. I would highly recommend this place and will definatley be coming again.

This is apparently a chain hotel and you can find them all over the UK. The big issue for us is that they charge you 30 pounds a night to park your car! The rooms were lovely with comfortable beds and pillows. The bathroom was modern and spacious. The breakfast was passable - 16.50 pounds for the hot breakfast and country table (juice, yogurt, cereal, fruit and your choice of eggs, ham, toast, etc.) We didn't dine here for dinner as the reviews scared us off. Right in the heart of Cambridge - just down the street from the Fitzwilliam Museum and King's College.

We gave up a table elsewhere to eat at the Hotel du Vin’s Bistro restaurant in Cambridge on Sunday night. We have eaten at other Hotel du Vin restaurants and never been disappointed, so maybe this was just an off-night. Typically English we didn’t complain. Just said ‘fine’ when asked how our meal had been and left. We don’t mind paying over the odds for good food, but for £89 with just one glass of wine, for a meal that was very sub-standard, did not leave a good taste in the mouth. If you cannot cope with a Sunday night after a busy graduation weekend, then it’s probably best not to open. The service was excellent and very professional. We both really enjoyed our starters as well. The first bread basket was warm and tasty, and some fuss was made over how it had been specially prepared. The second was cold and slightly stale and we think was offered because of the long wait between courses in a near empty restaurant. I had skate wing. A very large portion. Yummy, but no. The fish was flabby and didn’t taste fresh. I didn’t finish it. My wife had a chicken dish in a skillet that was dry and could’ve been served as pub grub. The one glass of Rosé at £8.50 was very good albeit pricey. The Jersey Royal potatoes tasted like left-overs from Sunday lunch and we hardly ate them. They were not pleasant. Surely Jersey Royals are meant to be boiled and taste buttery? These looked like they had been roasted, at some point earlier. It was not an enjoyable meal, we got the impression that even the staff were embarrassed. We were tired after a busy weekend, couldn’t be bothered to complain and just wanted to leave, so did not try a dessert. Expensive, disappointing, a sorry end to what had been a great weekend.

We had a great meal - starters were really good (I had the prawn and avocado starter and my husband had the Asparagus). Main courses were excellent - fillet steak cooked to perfection. Service was very, very good. A huge improvement on all aspects of this Bistro since our last visit 6 months ago - all very positive indeed. Wine selection was as expected - very good indeed.

We have one night here and we’re so happy we booked. The hotel have valet parking (a god-send!) in a UK city. The welcome was fantastic. Basically dumped the car key and luggage and off we were without any fuss. The lady on reception was so helpful. We also had Sunday lunch in the restaurant which was historic, again, the staff, especially the Maitre d’ were great. What a good chain this brand is.

Visited here today for Sunday lunch for Father’s Day. On arrival our car was driven to a car park for us and we were met by a member of staff who showed us to the bar downstairs for pre dinner drinks. I couldn’t drink the champagne that the others had so the bar manager very kindly made me a mocktail that was so refreshing.

Este recibe 'pobre' en vez de 'terrible' porque se produjo una buena tarta Tatín. Todo lo demás era bastante grave. Entrantes: Mi Espárragos era demasiado salada para terminar. Mi marido tuvo que volver algunas de sus ensaladas de puerro a la placa de la boca porque estaba literalmente comestible. Principales: pato estaba hecha, seco y no tan bien como lo hacemos en casa. Mi red era un seco mullet y quebradas pedazo de pescado tirado sobre 'parmentier 'patatas que eran más como puré de bultos todo servido con una pila de flojo de cohete. La haricots grupo verts acompañamiento era el mejor y bien. Pensamos en llamar un día pero estábamos allí para celebrar un cumpleaños y mi marido no me equivocaba con budín. Sí, la tarta Tatín era buena, pero me dieron un macarrón que era incompetente. Me gustó, como me gustaría disfrutar mi propia tarta falló ingredientes bonito, no importa que es completamente plana y completamente la textura equivocada. Puede que me he sentido ofendido que era servido: no tienen tal desprecio a los clientes que ellos creen que no sé lo que es, lo que macarrón razonablemente esperar? Incluso el macarrón era demasiado crudos y abundante no tuvo el poder entre los dos discos en seco fresco enmascarado como macarrón.
