Hotaru in Wandsworth

As soon as you enter Hotaru you are given a warm welcome. This is a cafe style restaurant where the atmosphere is relaxed. Located on Wandsworth High Street, Don't be put off by the locaiton. I happened upon it by chance and have been there twice in one week. The menu is extensive and delicious. I've had the tempura, the dragon roll, misor pork and udon noodles with mixed fix. All so yummy and delivered efficiently. The service throughout was outstanding. I'll be going again. Highly recommended.

I must say I am unsure why it's ranked 5 stars on Tripadvisor. This experience has made me doubt the usefulness of Tripadvisor reviews in general. While the service was fast and friendly, the food was average at best. We ordered starters, 4 different mains, and a sushi set but none of it was good enough to make us want to come back. The restaurant's venue had an old-school feel and didn't appear to be refurbished for a while. Overall, if you're looking for good Japanese food, this may not be the place for you.

We went here for the first time last night with some good friends and I can't wait to go back. Right up there with the quality and taste of the high end expensive central London Japanese restaurants but without the price tag. Absoloutely delicious food, lovely bottle of Riesling to go with it, really lovely staff and service. Highly recommended.

I have visited the restaurant a few times already for lunch and dinner and I cannot recommend it enough. Please do not think of it as a sushi please, there is much more to it! I have enjoyed a lot of the starters and main, and there is nothing under 5 stars for me. Love it!

I’m not exaggerating when I say this is the best Japanese food I’ve ever had in London. The fish tastes so fresh and all the food is such good quality as well as the presentation which looks amazing. The chicken gyozas are truly the best gyozas I’ve ever had in my life. This place is just too good!!!

This Japanese restaurant deserves to succeed. Excellent food with friendly warm service. The sashimi is first class and the piriyaki best ever. Difficult to see behind a bus stop on Wandsworth high street.

We had dinner at Hotaru recently. Have only positive things to say about this restaurant: kindest staff, great menu with lots of choice (yellowtail jalapenos and kataifi prawns were particularly yummy). highly recommended.

Service was fast and friendly and the food was really good! Flavors were bright and tasty and the sushi was fresh and served at a perfect temperature. They have a fairly limited menu but I would highly recommend to try what they offer as we did not order one item that wasn’t super tasty and well presented. Their mushroom salad special was my personal favorite but only by a small margin. Their chili squid and their salmon sushi was also fantastic.

My girlfriend and I stumbled to Hotaru by accident but it was very much a welcome distraction. The food was excellent, fresh and well prepared, the staff attentive and timely yet not overbearing. We shall most certainly be back!
