Went for brunch. The taste was average and the price was a bit expensive. But it’s very convenient, you can order and pay online. The environment is a bit crowded.

Stopped and shopped while passing through. Were very friendly, nice atmosphere. If we had had time, we would have liked to have a coffee there. Dogs were in the café, so apparently they were allowed :-))

Gran ubicación café está bien, pero no es el mejor tostado por ahí agradables pasteles, sin embargo - menú podría ser más creativo! Qué vergüenza sobre la política de portátiles de fin de semana para el fin de semana completamente fuera de contacto para una ciudad universitaria.

Lovely coffee shop but told at 730 on a Sunday morning I can’t use a laptop despite the place being nearly empty, what a joke!!

Best ginger cake I’ve ever had!

For £7, I would expect more than two slices of okay bread and bacon… some lettuce at least? If it had tasted amazing, i would be happy, but the bread was mediocre and came out untoasted - the waiter was surprised when i asked for the bread of a bacon sandwich to be toasted!

Another favourite place for coffee and cakes in Cambridge. Their bean roasting is excellent. Pastries are delicious.

My husband and I had a brunch here on Saturday. We weren’t able to pre book a table, but luckily managed to nab the last one available. My husband has the sausage sandwich and I had the bacon pancakes, which were great! The service was really quick and we loved how you can choose your coffee blend. We also thought it was reasonably priced for Cambridge. We really enjoyed our experience here and will be returning!

Coffee was good but I was a bit uncomfortable because one of the staff used sexist language towards a coworker.

Food was very disappointing. I ordered a sandwich, and technically this was a sandwich. But this is literally bread and plant-based bacon. This is not a separate dish and should not be on the menu.

It's a sad day for me because Hot Numbers has been my favourite coffee shop in Cambridge for a few years, as a lovely place to work and have great coffee and lunch during the day. But they've adopted a new policy whereby all laptop users (the majority of the daytime crowd) are forced to sit around a couple of specific tables with benches. Anyone who sits somewhere else and opens a laptop is hounded until they give in and move. I had two incredibly rude staff who wouldn't even give me the coffee I ordered until I moved tables. They also hounded a dad with a newborn baby and a Macbook, until he gave up and closed the laptop so they would leave him alone. Avoid if you plan to get any work done.

Me and my friend went on a run and came here to finish. We both had an ice coffee, my friend had granola and I had the turkish eggs. Food and service was brilliant!

Recommend the Turkish eggs and grilled cheese sandwich!

A good spot for coffee and brunch despite the fact it's short walk from the centre. Can get busy on weekends with people bringing laptops but the garden outside is nice, especially in warm weather

Trendy small chain coffee house with superior baked products.

I was having a day trip to Cambridge and the weather was cold and rainy. I was looking for something hot to drink to warm up myself. This cafe is a gem. Located in the center. The hot chocolate was delicious. The service was quick and excellent. The price was great. I highly recommend it if you're in the city.

Popped in for a morning coffee, rude service, average coffee, and crazy expensive prices, this place is just a rip-off, I won't be back.

Gluten free options are pretty horrible to be honest. jam on toast is indeed not jam and not toasted bread with packets of butter. Sad experience first time in Cambridge. The cramped conditions. Harried service, not fun but it didn’t break the bank.

Legendary local coffee outlet, roasting nearby and supplying some other cafes too. Love their hardcore insistence that coffee may come in many lengths but only two forms, espresso with or without steamed milk! This is some of the best coffee in Cambridge, though; it doesn't need to be complicated 😊

Worst place to have a coffee in Cambridge. Update - After avoiding their shop in Trumpington Street, it turns out the whole chain is unbearable. They now repeatedly tried to screw me and some colleagues. It happened to a lot of us that they grind your espresso wrongly so you have to buy the entire things again. Take a look yourself: they pretended both packages were ground the same level (they obviously aren‘t) and that this was my own problem. The coffee is not particularly good and it is incredibly expensive – you even need to pay for the oat milk that you can fill in your cup by the entrance on your own haha. Even worse was my experience when buying ground espresso. Although I specified very clearly how to grind it and a (in that case very friendly) employee offered me to just come back if it doesn‘t work, an incredibly unfriendly „manager“ denied this the next day, questioning the pledge in the same shop the day before. Instead of just preparing my coffee, I thus ended up on a 1.5 hour journey to the shop where I had to argue to finally just get the ground coffee I already asked for the day before. This experience was unbearable and I certainly will not return.

This was by far the worst lunch experience I've had in a long time. First off, three items on the brunch menu were unavailable, which was quite disappointing. When our food finally arrived, the poached eggs on sourdough were a sight to behold - they looked like they had been slammed onto the plate, completely bare and unappealing. My daughter's sausage sandwich was equally disappointing, arriving burning hot, tasteless, and incredibly dry. To top it all off, the woman serving at the till could certainly use a smile. While this may seem minor, it added to the overall negative experience. The food was basic and bad. It was clear that no attention or care was put into preparing it. I am extremely disappointed with my visit to Hot Numbers and will definitely not be returning. Did I mention that it was disappointing? I would also caution others against wasting their money here.

Staff are lovely, the food is alright but not really my taste. The pastry was cold and hard, and the ciabatta was quite solid and tough to chew through.

My go to cafe for quiet afternoon for work coffee. I love it here because it is peaceful and many spots for charging my laptop.

Great little place in the heart of Cambridge. Shame the same could not be said for their “famed” bacon sarnie - one of the reasons I chose to visit - or their service. Crispy bacon sarnie (listed separately to a normal one) was lukewarm, not crispy and fatty. No sauces offered or provided. Didn’t get the coffee expert vibe. Appeared disorganised. Only plusses were the scrambled eggs (which were delicious) and the look of the sandwiches. Unfortunately couldn’t send the sarnie back as we had a walking tour booked and didn’t have time.

El café estaba muy ocupado, lo que siempre es una buena señal. Pedí 2 capuchinos y un sandwich de salchichas. El servicio fue rápido y eficiente. Los cafés eran muy buenos y las tasas de emparedado de salchichas justo allí con el mejor que he tenido. Perfect brunch in Cambridge. Good coffee, high quality food and the sourdough bread is simply amazing.

I’ll be honest, the food was underwhelming, and not worth it imo. The eggs and avocado were pretty mid, and needed to be seasoned. The plates and cups also had an odd smell that was really off-putting. The pancakes were solid though! I’d recommend getting them if you’re into sweet breakfasts :) The servers were accommodating and thorough, and the cafe had a nice bustle to it.

We are once again back at Hot Numbers a must on every visit to Cambridge. It always seem authentic - filled with locals as opposed to tourists. Great food, great coffee and friendly service.

Sunday brunch, had the Turkish eggs. £9 for 2 eggs (50p max) a slice of toast (5p) and a spoon of yoghurt with chunks of raw garlic you will regurgitate all day (1p). This is tourist trap stuff. Recommend the Cambridge cookery, they also do Turkish eggs but it's a actually nice.

I visit Hot Numbers quite early in the day and Ricardo always greets his customers with a smile, great coffee as always, and today we tried their new ‘chocolate croissant’ what an invention..!!!

Crazy long wait times after ordering

Good food and great Coffees designated seats are need when waiting for takeaway orders, expecially for disabled customers.

Generally disinterested service, but decent pour over coffee. I didn't try the food as the server was too impatient for me to read the menu (menu was taped to the bench in front of the cash register, so couldn't read it while waiting in line).

It feels like a place that was once the secret coffee spot of the town which has got out of control. The coffee is fabulous but the vibe for me was far too busy. Staff were exceptional trying to ensure they kept up but quality of goods didn’t drop. I would love to visit again when it’s quiet but that’s obviously not great for business

Mi familia y yo fuimos aquí porque mi cafetería favorita, Pages, estaba cerrada. Me arrepentí. El café era malo, el lugar estaba lleno sin asientos, los baristas no eran serviciales, y la barra de chocolate que pedimos estaba tan seco que se podía utilizar como una toalla. Ve a Pages, está justo al final de la calle. Y si las páginas están cerradas, vaya a Café Nero o Costa. Diablos, incluso bonito es mejor.

My family and I went here because my favorite coffee shop, Pages, was closed. I regretted it. The coffee was bad, the place was packed with no seating, the baristas were not helpful, and the chocolate loaf we ordered was so dry it could be used to soak up a spill.

We came to Cambridge for a weekend getaway and looked for a local café to try for breakfast. It was very difficult to find a table as it was very busy. Ordered food and drinks and sat at the table. I liked how you could choose the size of coffee to order in oz. The food and drink came out in a timely manner. For the food, I ordered a Bacon sandwich and Bacon and Maple Syrup Pancakes. I'll start with the sandwich. Thin streaky bacon in-between cold sourdough bread without butter. One half of the sandwich barely had any bacon in it. As for the pancakes, these were way overly cooked, dry and swimming in a pool of maple syrup. I had high hopes for this place, due to being fairly busy. Maybe it was a weekend being busy and unable to cope? But, the experience I had, wouldn't make me come back when I come to the area again. As for service, ours was good overall, however, when we sat down, there were previous people's plates and cups left on the table. The staff came over twice/three times where they could've taken them away, but did not.

Me quedé en una cola de 6 personas y esperé unos buenos 10 minutos antes de que me atendieran. Luego esperé otros 10 minutos para mi café para llevar que llegó tibio. Cuando pedí una taza de café CALIENTE (ese es el nombre de la tienda después de todo) , no hubo disculpas solo una expresión bastante grumosa antes de que llegara una taza de café un poco más caliente. ¡Eso es lo que consigues por 4 libras! Por favor, por favor capacite a su personal sobre cómo proporcionar un buen servicio rápido - para aquellos de nosotros que tenemos que volver al trabajo!

I usually love Hot Numbers' coffee but this time the milk taste was more intense than the coffee taste.

This place is a bit crammed but no wonder cause it's really great! And the staff aren't the friendliest but they do their job and they are pretty busy! But great food and drinks and pastries, I absolutely love my catch ups with people here.

We where in the other day for a group brunch with work. Overall a great experience, Luisa and the onsite team made the arrangements stress free. Everyone in the group commended the food which was very tasty and beautifully presented too and their coco is on of the best Cambridge. Highly recommended

Coffee is quality over quantity, so that's good if that's what you like. They have great brunch options (although their menu used to be much bigger, I'm not sure what's going on there). Very busy on weekends and even some weekdays so be wary, but there is pretty good reason for this place's popularity.

Their cappuccino and croissant with cheese and tomato (heated up of course) are my go-to order here

Pet friendly cafe with nice sourdough. Tried their avocado and chicken toast, tasty and love the balance between the sweetness of roasted corn, spiciness of the chicken and tanginess from the seasoning in the smashed avocado. huge portion for a girl. Flat white with oat milk is good too. Service is not bad for a busy cafe. The tables can be cleaner tho, mine still got crumbs from patrons b4.

Awesome brunch offer, the pancakes are the best, really tasty Coffee is also great, a little bit pricey, not sure how long they can keep the price before seeing a drop in sales. But overall it was really good, just a bit on the high end and perhaps you can find something else that has a better cost ratio. Thanks

I had a discouraging experience during a recent visit. I reached out to the team and Rich made everything right and apologised. I couldn’t fault their response and hence the changed review. The coffee is excellent, the staff are friendly and helpful and the atmosphere in the cafe is pleasant. Due to them being a roaster, the coffee is always spot on and has interesting flavour profiles.

Flavorful coffee and delicious breakfast/brunch options. The place can be very crowded, and a long line can form even in the early morning. This makes me very anxious and stressed whenever I dine alone… So I don’t visit very often :) but it’s definitely worth an early morning walk across the river. — No bibimbap today. I was so excited to try the new menu 😿 Turkish eggs are alright. Nicely poached egg. The chili is quite bland.. Flat white good as usual. — The new guacamole and jerky chicken sourdough tastes good. Flavorful without greasy bread. There are some fruit flies lingering though. Busy as always at noon.

The café is lovely for a quick drink, and offers some of the more decent, if not particularly impressive, coffee in Cambridge. At the same time, it can be a little inhospitable if you'd like to do anything other than stare off into space or chat as you have it — while I understand that common courtesy demands people don't take up a table for ages on end having a single drink, the moment I even attempted to plug in my laptop to book some tickets while having my coffee and toastie, I was immediately approached by a server who told me it simply wasn't allowed, at all, even for a couple of minutes, anywhere but one large, at the time unfortunately full table in the centre of the shop. I wouldn't actually have attempted had a couple of little tables like mine not had plugs underneath, and had I not seen several people in the café at the same time using laptops at them without issue — but, in retrospect, the people at the tables with laptops did all seem to be chatty with the server, so presumably different standards apply depending on how well one knows the personnel.

It’s a shame - being busy should be a plus not a burden but when after a 30 min wait, a cold sausage sandwich arrives, it’s very disappointing.

Disappointing bacon sandwich and not available until 8am on a Thursday morning. My previous review of this place in 2015 was really positive. Unfortunately, for whatever reason, the once-brilliant bacon sandwiches have been standardized into overpriced sadness: pre-cooked bacon and un-toasted, dry bread. Greggs would be far better, and cheaper. The coffee is good, but note that the house style is not to provide any drinks with frothed milk (eg a cappuccino). Presumably this also helps de-skill the process. Look, I get that the cost of labour and materials is high, but for me, there isn't a solution here that leaves me wanting to come back. Edit: to the reply - it's unproductively defensive and misses the point. I don't feel listened to as a customer. Other readers: interpret that as you wish.

I always wanted to visit this coffee shop, seeing it passing by, but ultimately I’m not impressed :(. The lady at the till was a little bit rude, the avocado toast thought quite nice but took forever to be ready and the coffee was not a big deal (vs marketed as specialty coffee)

Been coming here for years and today was a sad day. A very cold bacon sandwich with meagre amounts of re-cooked bacon, on cold bread. Expect better for £7. Thanks for the reply. If it’s freshly cooked, why was it cold? When I ordered before 8am and had to wait until 8am until the kitchen opened. Given it came at 8:02 it seems odd it was cold. Maybe it had been cooked in the hour before 8 and was left to cool. That then begs the question why can’t you serve before 8. All I’m saying is I feel the focus on quality has dropped. This is a sentiment echoed by many recent reviews and all your response made me feel that you don’t listen. It’s been a good run!

Alright, avocado toast with them is WAY too literal. No salt, no butter, not a single spice or flavouring, all for the low low price of a mortgage. Also what are their rules for laptops because we've been told about 5 different things that don't corroborate at all, and then getting kicked off a table to another that has a sign that CLEARLY contradicts what the staff just said is unacceptable. Unspoken rules aren't rules. Contradictory laptop mess. Edit: to reply to the team's reply; unfortunately it doesn't make sense or clear things up. Your laptop "rules" are confusing, contradictory, and being told to our faces that the rules are x, when they table sign says y is an accessibility issue. It's understandable to want to compromise between chatty visitors and laptop workers, but your staff cannot be rude or contradictory about it. You've given rules that we obeyed, then created a hostile atmosphere in telling us something else. It was an impossible situation and made us incredibly anxious, to the point that we can't come back knowing that staff will be rude to us for trying to follow your confusing "rules" that no one seems to know.

I rarely leave a critical review, especially when it comes to local cafes. But I've visited this cafe multiple times over the course of 2 years, and each time the average waiting time for a black americano is 10 minutes - the coffee itself is also not amazing enough to justify this amount of waiting. I accept that this is coming from someone accustomed to a more metropolitan pace, so perhaps just manage your expectations. It benefits from being in a prime location, but otherwise my honest experience with this cafe has been disappointingly mediocre at best.

Poor. Don't bother with this place. Decent coffee, and a couple of pleasant staff members, but coupled with worn out furniture and decor, a broken toastie maker, a dreadful vegan baguette, a cold and drear outside toilet (which is hard to locate after dark), and a very silly process of closing off a third of the seating an hour before closing. The way the staff member closed the area was also unnecessarily brusque. It doesn't matter that you've told people a few minutes prior – when the time comes, you need to let people finish and then leave, not stand over them while they neck their expensive coffees or try to move to other tables that don't exist. The young family at the next table were shadowed until they moved, with no understanding of the dad's point that he'd just got his kids to sit down with a snack for a few minutes. Even better, if you're open until a time, be open fully. Don't inconvenience and hassle customers just because you want to save 15 minutes of close down and get to the pub. Training and introspection needed.

Shocking!!! After nearly an hours wait for my food, the sever questioned whether I had actually ordered anything when I asked how much longer it would be, she insisted I show her my banking app as proof of order! after showing her she took my phone from me scrolling through to check the date!!!

Of the dozens of cafés in Cambridge, this is my favorite. Try the pancakes or avocado toast or scrambled eggs - delicious! The quality of the coffee, bread, pastries, cakes is very high. And the atmosphere is bustling, too!

They used to be good. It was the go-to place for very decent coffee and food. But, a fall from grace we seem to have. Service is sloppy, orders are either incorrect, not delivered all together, unrealistic wait times, or almost-cold food or coffee served. It’s a shame, but Hot Numbers is definitely cooling off, and after repeated disappointments, this is more than just a ‘blip’. Avoid…

Friendliest cafe in Cambridge. Great ambience & music (music thankfully not loud). Excellent coffee. Wonderful service, even when flat out. Narrow design - it gets busy - with smallish terrace out back and a few street-front tables. Only does oat milk in the non-dairies, otherwise I would visit more often. If they had range of gluten-free options (lunch, not cake) would order more food when I do. But as far as staff&mgt, ambience & coffee goes, Hot Numbers hits it out of the park.

I just stopped by for a coffee break in the afternoon. I also tried their own bakewell tart. They were very delicious. The atmosphere was also quite nice. I will definitely come back later to try the breakfast and lunch menu.
