We had my husbands wake in one of the function rooms here. The staff were all very friendly, and they put out tea and coffee at no extra cost, we didnt even had to clean up after us which is a very welcome change. I will now go in try their food at some point. Very helpful and accomodating.

Sunday lunch amazing all fresh we had the chicken cooked perfectly all vegetables cooked to perfection and you get plenty all staff are friendly and helpful I ca highly recommended you will not be disappointed 5 stars thank you all will definitely be returning 👍

Excellent food, excellent polite staff and beautifully furnished premises. Not many sunday dinners where you actually get half a chicken on your plate as you do here. 😉 The steaks are to die for as well. All in all a REALLY good experience. Have been back 3 times now and every time it was bang on. Keep it up gaffer. 👌

We was invited to my friends wedding at the Horse and Jockey and we had a fantastic time.. We got back early from the wedding and waited in the bar area. The people who run the Horse and Jockey made us feel very welcome and it was really clean and tidy. When we went up stairs to the function room we was well impressed and the people we was talking to said the food their was excellent The food we had at the reception was excellent and the staff was really professional. In the future if I needed a function room with good food,friendly staff and a great atmosphere the Horse and Jockey would be the first number I would call.

Ordered a starter of nachos and the portion was a full dinner plate. Freshly made nachos with home made salsa and guacamole. They were delicious! Can't wait to come again and try the main menu. They will adding more the menu in time.

I have just been and had the most amazing food from the new menu. We ordered nachos which came with fresh home made guacamole which was stunning. We also ordered the catfish and the burger. Massive portions and reasonably priced. Enjoyed every mouthful and we will certainly be back!! Thank you for a wonderful meal.

Large party of 20+ booked for Mother's Day. Tables were well presented, great service, lovely food and staff were brill! Tables were well presented

Booked for a meal at 6.45om as we were told they where going to be busy. H&J are in between menus and Brewery’s, so some of the food on there they hadn’t got but that was clearly stated on a label on the menu. Ordered sirloin steak and smothered chicken. We received it bout 20mins after we ordered, chips were to die for not frozen but fresh and chunky really nice, meal was plentiful & hot good prices. Then there was a party of about 20-25 that arrived just after we had been served, then chaos set in not for us but for them, the chef was brilliant coming out bringing food and asking if food was ok. There was only 2 people serving the food, the party being a party was noisy and things got confused with their meals. Children running about with balloons going everywhere, whilst others were trying to eat their food. Took us 10mins to order desserts which came out quickly but custard wasn’t with one dessert and by the time it came out pudding had gone slightly cooler. Staff was chatty and friendly, but seemed to concentrate on the bar. We will return when new menus are set in place.

We've not been here for Sunday lunch before. There were fewer people than we expected, certainly given how nice the food was. I think will spread quickly as it's also very good value at £6.95 for a Sunday lunch. Between us we had the turkey and the beef and both were very tender, nicely cooked, and tasty. It's a plated meal rather than a carvery, but there were three portions of vegetables. In good Black Country fashion, you can have as much gravy as you want :-) Piping hot, and served very quickly, it was a treat. We'll be back.

Visited this pub as I haven't been in a few months due to personal reasons nothing to do with the pub... I was hopeful that I would enjoy a lovely evening as previous, how was Wrong was I pub does not have the same atmosphere.. appears to be new bar staff who don't appear to know the basics in customer service no engagement and I felt very awkward. I was very disappointed in my visits as I always experienced a warm welcome not anymore I don't imagine I will visit any time soon. Such a same

Shocked when I visited the horse and jockey today and was in complete shock at the service I received. I work in the community and visit the pub on a weekly basis with one of our service users who looks forward to going for a game of darts, pool and to have a ice cream. I have never had any issues and always found staff very welcoming and friendly but today was a different story. First was told that he couldn’t play darts as the Xmas tree had been put in front of it and they weren’t prepared to move it. Second the pool table area was blocked off and to top it off was told no ice cream as kitchen was closed due to not doing food today as weather is bad, I mean 2 scoops of ice cream out the freezer is it too much to ask. I really ain’t sure what has happened but am in shock and the welcome I had ,and to be stared at like we were aliens think we will be finding another local now for our gentleman. Unbelievable

Visited thursday 12\50pm for lunch...loud tv turned down on request..pub empty..barman said just took over. Needed cleanin??? Ordered lasagne and salad. Fish and chips one bread and butter. ,one coffee,...,.bear in mind normally, and advertises ,two meals for a tenner. Cost just under£16. ..swallowed that..fish and chips greasy. Lasagne had loads of cheese on top, think that replaced the pasta layer. Greasy.......salad... Well tired is generous description..we were asked twice if meal ok..what do you say? No its over priced and greasy.the lady was clean and pleasant. Barman. No comment. Hate giving poor report. But cannot reccomend over priced greasy food..shame this used to be a good eating pub...wont be visiting again

Went for midweek lunch with a friend. Was just going to have a sandwich but was tempted by the homemade Turkey, Ham & leek pie , my friend had a Chicken burger , both were served with homemade chips. It was lovely, couldn't finish it all. The lunchtime offer was 2 meals for £9 , great value and a lovely treat from my friend. Staff were very friendly . Was not very busy, at these prices it should be bustling.

Came here for both an evening party and a end of term lunch. Room for hire was nice and spacious although upstairs so not good for less able people. The food we had at lunchtime was nice and reasonably priced

Fuimos allí para mi padre en leyes comida de cumpleaños. El lugar en sí es muy pequeño, con dos habitaciones separadas, una para el bar si simplemente beber y comer en uno con una docena de mesas sobre (no soportaría verlo lleno). Cuando nos fuimos, era la única gente allí y la habitación era muy frío, así que no tenía muchas expectativas. . . Pero qué equivocados era yo! ?

Went here for my dads 75th birthday. Party of 7, ordered our food, food came out - no cutlery ! Then our orders of battered mushrooms didnt come out, when questioned they said they had run out ? Food was not hot , steak not very good, all in all an average meal.Staff were very friendly though so i suppose theres an upside !

Had few drinks here, cheap enough. Felt a little uncomfortable at first as it seems like a local pub and the locals just look as soon as u walk in....bit daunting! Looks quite old fashioned. Girls behind bar friendly

Food was good, staff were pleasant and there was plenty of room available to sit down. My main criticisms were that the steps down from the car park into the pub are a bit steep and that we were cold all the time that we were there.

I have been in the pub for parties food and beer it located in a good location the staff are friendly and the food is great this pub is for anyone it a place where you can meet up woth friends and family 10 out 10

We hired upstairs room for a big get together with friends, but before they came we had some food,fish & chip Friday was excellent and also inc a drink so not expensive,we will def use this place again, car park small so at weekends its full but u can park in the streets.

A great place for a nice dinner that doesn't cost the earth.I had lamb shank and it was well cooked, flavoursome, nice veg and great service. I loved eating here and recommend it.

Been here about once a month for a while. Really nice Sunday carvery. Lovely tender meats, nice selection of veg and crispy roasties, all at a very reasonable price. Just off Junctions 9 (IKEA, NEXT , B&Q etc) Just carry straight on into Wednesbury and it is on your right - much better than the Chestnut. Normal Menu also available on Sundays. Good parking and nice pint of Guinness to boot!

Visited for Sunday Lunch. Had Carvery, meat was tender and vegetables were soft but not mushy. Food was nice and filling and the staff friendly would definitely visit again.

Stopped off en-route to a weekend away. Had the nacho burger, bit spicy but tasty; colleague had the beefburger which had a nice flame-grilled tang.Chips were thick but a bit soft, not quite the crisp bite I was expecting. However, two lunch snacks for £9 was a good deal and did us fine.

Had had several meal at the jockey the food is alway well presented and really nice the Sunday carvery is far the best around the staff are very friendly and so is th management I shall be holding my 50th birthday there very soon

this place will not be seeing me or any members of my family any time soon, management could do with a course on customer relations, new fellow in charge, not a nice person, ( one of those types who think they know everything), try it if you wish , but you will not see any of us there

We popped in for the afternoon. We were feeling rather peckish so decided upon two tuna baguettes and one chips. For just under £9 we had two measly and tiny baguettes and 20 chips. It had discoloured lettuce and extremely small baguettes. A very poor quality snack and certainly not worth £9! We won't be eating here again! It's not recommended!

The food was at or above average for a local pub but the chips were amongst the best available other than in a chip shop. The kitchen staff (of one?) forgot the onion rings for one of our party and the coleslaw for another. The bread used for the ham sandwich was wonderfully fresh but the ham that was described as 'thickly cut' was little more than paper thick and the sachet of English mustard was disgustingly sweet. How many Michelin stars are needed before anyone can master the art of blending Coleman's mustard powder with water.

Phoned to check the beer and dart layout spoke to manager Paddy he told me what beers they had on and confirmed the darts layout all sounded good Went on Friday night with my sons hopeing for a good game of darts and a good pint of real Ale.After arriving at the pub I was unable to hear what the young barmaid was saying to me (admittedly I am a little deaf ) but after asking her 4 times I would have thought she would have realised this my son had to tell me what she was saying, The pub seamed very friendly but beer was very poor, the dart board light did not work and the board was loose we could not drink the beer which we left and went to another pub we did not eat at this pub so we are unable to commit on this

A few of us went there on an invite from a friend and had a great time,atmosphere was chilled out,staff have always been polite n helpful,food was just too much tbh but who's complaining hey!Over all if your thinkin ov a birthday,anniversary or other occasions then I would suggest u book this place you won't b disappointed .....tea n coffees r on the house too so drink as much as u want if ur not n alky of course!!KOPITE JOE ;-)

We visited this pub for a few drinks on a Sunday , there was a birthday party in the upstairs private function room , you could hear the base of the music pounding through the celing , vibrating the floor , that was a nuisance , but there is a lovely back room with comfy sofas , when we return there in a few weeks we will sit in there

Sunday lunch like your mother used to make.Good and proper British Sunday lunch, cooked beautifully and good size helpings.You won,t go from here feeling hungry or fleeced as the price is very reasonable too.If you go in the week there is a great menu with curries and lot of other foods too.Just half a mile off junction 9 M6towards Wednesbury it worth stopping off a long journey.

After reading a number of good review, myself and 4 other family members decided to try the Horse and Jockey out!!!We arrived early evening at 1715hrs to a relatively empty room. We ordered our food promptly, 5 minutes after ordering the bar staff advised us there was no Carbonara. That did not deter us and the choice was changed without any worry.After waiting what seemed to be an eternity 50 minutes in total we were then advised that two of the other meals that we ordered were not available!!!The bar lady was very apologetic. We asked the question why it has taken them 55 minutes to tells us the food was not available. When on earth was the food going to be cooked for the other dishes. We were asked what we want to do. Straight away I asked for the money back as KFC was down the road and would provide us with some substance and a much quicker service.The money was given back promptly and an apology for the service provided was offered. The ?? manager of the public house although having seen the website I don't actually believe he was would not refund our drinks bill or offer any other recompense for what I see as a very poor experience. He offered apologies but no answers to why we had been waiting 55 minutes to then be told the food ordered was not available.A disappointing experience

Well what can I say this pub is all around excellent the food is really good the staff soo friendly and I live 10 mins walk away I'm always in here for a meal . If you are in Wednesbury make sure you come here for a meal . :)

I've been here numerous times and can say it's a beautiful friendly place,attendative staff always looking around to help,atmosphere is second to none but could get rowdy here n there otherwise it's just my perfect local!

Our company recently helped a charity renovate a garden very close to The Horse & Jockey over two days during a very wet week in November. We had booked lunch at the pub for the two days of the job, but when Carol & Paddy heard what we were doing they very kindly treated our team to a great sandwich lunch on both days. If you're in the area and want a warm welcome and good food you'll find it here in a really great community pub!

My husband and I had an appointment in Tipton and decided to look on tripadvisor for somewhere on the way back to Penkridge to have a meal and a drink. Thank goodness we found Carol at the Horse and Jockey. She was so welcoming. We ordered our drinks and sat in the bar when Carol asked if we were thinking of staying for food, which we were. She asked if we would be more comfortable in the lounge and couldn't be more attentive and nice if she tried. I had the liver and onions and even though it came with mashed potatoes and I preferred chips it wasn't any bother to change the order for me. My husband had the meat and potato pie with chips and peas and a large gravy boat of extra gravy if needed. All this for £6 because it was Monday and they had a special offer on but on an ordinary night it would be only £10 anyway. Even thought the menu's looked like any other pub grub place please please don't be put off because the food is NOT your normal pub grub. My liver was soft and melt in the mouth with lots of beautiful gravy and my husbands pie was a proper pastry pie bottom and top filled to the brim with meat and potato the way it used be done.I would highly recommend that you visit Carol as everything she is doing is top notch. Well done

We held a celebratory birthday meal for my mom recently at the Horse and Jockey where 13 of us had Sunday lunch. The food was excellent and the customer service provided by Carol and her staff was top class. Even "fussy children" were not a problem to them and every thing was done to make us feel comfortable and our meal very enjoyable.We will definitely be returning and would highly recommend!!

Have eaten here now on a couple of occasions and have always had freshly cooked hearty meals which could be on bigger plates - which isn't a criticism but a compliment as there is plenty on your plate! The ale's are well looked after too which always compliments your meal

I go to the horse and jockey every Friday lunchtime with workmates and we are always looked after very well by Carol and Paddy. As we have a limited lunch hour, we always preorder our food and when we arrive it is always on time, always hot and wonderfully home cooked. Carol and Paddy are very friendly and always make us feel very welcome. Nothing is ever too much trouble! A great friendly pub!

Every time I eat here I am met with a warm smile. The food and drinks are reasonably priced; food is hot, tasty and served quickly. I love how the landlady has fresh flowers every week - it's a lovely touch and it sets the Horse & Jockey apart from other pubs.

I have used the Horse & Jockey function room on a few occasions and found it to be a superb room for various events, is is a small stage, tables chairs etc, always spotlessly clean, nothing is too much trouble. I have had a various snacks and meals and always been satisfied with quality and quantity of the food, the home made chips to die for. Its clear to see that Carole & Paddy care about their pub, always fresh flowers on the bar and tables (a change from the plastic one at other venues), it is always immaculately clean and polished , would highly recommenced both function room & Pub.

Booked a table for 10 people to celebrate my son's 18th birthday after hearing such good reviews about this place. Food was AMAZING, staff were very pleasant, so was the landlord & landlady who came to check we were all ok and enjoying ourselves. Overall a great night. Food was very reasonable with good size portions. Can't wait tip our next visit !!

We visited the Horse & Jockey Friday evening for a bite to eat. First impressions were good and the place looked great having recently been redecorated and we were served by friendly staff. The food we had was fantastic and although the menu is small and traditional we both enjoyed our meal. A lot. The home made chips are worth a special mention. All in all we really enjoyed our visit and would, without doubt return. Definitely recommended.

We visited this pub as had seen a write up about it in the local newspaper. We had a very substantial Sunday Lunch, There was a choice of Beef, Turkey and Lamb Shank. We chose the Beef and Lamb Shank, both very nice, served with home made mash, roasters, cabbage, carrots, peas and which was the only downfall two very dry stuffing balls. Lovely homely atmosphere and I will most definitely be back with my elderly parents. There was a list of acts and tribute bands, all at very reasonable prices so ideal for a night out. All in all a very enjoyable experience.

Another great night at the Jockey with a great band. They have some great acts coming up over the next few months... Best pub in Wednesbury.

Visited last week first time in many years since it was Rogers Rib Room...Decor nice and spotless clean,,Staff were friendly but a bit half soaked...,two girls behind the bar serving both the locals in the bar and the restaurant customers. The menu was uninspiring and as stated previous, no different from any of the eateries in the area...however the steaks we ordered were fine..and.the homemade chips were exceptional !!...just how your mom used to do them and they saved the day really...I had Liver with mash which was of the ''Smash'' variety..but i enjoyed the meal never the less.. The staff should concentrate on one area..my daughter had no fork and no-one was around so she actually had to shout them from the bar were they both were..there was no ketchup and they got a simple bar order wrong..just minor things that are easily rectified..just give the restaurant customers some service please.

I have been to the Horse and Jockey for food, nights out and family occasions. The food is delicious and there is entertainment on every week which is anything from live music, comedians jewellery partys or live football coverage. When we have held party's there Paddy and Carol are very helpful. They have really turned the place around and the atmosphere is friendly, welcoming and fun. Its the only place round here now with atmosphere, as many pubs have now lost the spark , but the Horse and Jockey has it. The staff are also really friendly and helpful. The only way is the Horse and Jockey :)

Our family including my 75 year old mother and 18 year old daughter attended the Horse & Jockey on Friday evening and was entertained by Karen. The event was celebrating Armed Forces Weekend and her talent in singing all the old musical and war time songs was tremendous. Made you feel really proud and took my mom back many years and stirred many happy memories. Everyone joined in and the decorations in the room were fantastic. Lots of flags to wave, bunting and also union jack boppers for the head. The Bar staff got involved and were excellent, always a smile on their faces and very attentive, they added to the atmosphere and was interested in the customers they were serving, which makes a pleasant change.Room layout good, plenty of bar staff, attentive to the needs of customers and a fantastic venue.I think Carol and Paddy are planning to book Karen again close to remembrance Sunday, honestly this is one not to miss.

We visited for mid-week lunch as we often do, and was pleasantly surprised to see the new extensive menu. There's a wide choice with a full range of meals, all priced very reasonably. Particularly the starter - platter to share, which was great value. All food was very tasty, with the 'real' chips adding the personal touch :)The service was excellent, as always, with food being served in a timely manner and well presented.Thank you for another lovely meal - can't wait to come back and try something else off the new menu!

The food is very excellent and every weekend The Horse and Jockey in Wednesbury is the place to be. There is always something happening from Live bands to Family occasions. The service you receive there is excellent and friendly. The landlord and land lady make you feel very welcomed and part of their family. The food is very fresh and very homely like your mom cooking. if you haven't been I suggest you go. :-)

Always a warm, friendly welcome at the Horse & Jockey! Recently refurbished to a high standard, the Horse & Jockey has everything, including a much-improved function room for the local area - worth a look!. Have enjoyed many a party in their function room and have also been to a few of the regular entertainment nights that are advertised with a good variety of singers/bands. Good beer and food; have eaten here a few times and can honestly say I couldn't fault anything. Nothing's too much trouble for Paddy & Carol and if you have any requests for special events/celebrations they will always consider them. There's something for everyone at the Horse & Jockey and children are always welcome!

Great entertainment on most weekends. Good Food & a very warm welcome from the Landlord & Landlady along with very friendly staff.I would definitely recommend.

Since Carol and Paddy have taken over the Horse and Jockey, it's come to life, they put bands on, singers, great fun pub and the good is absolutely great, great for families or occasions, they make a real effort, and also make you very welcome even when you ask them to support a charity they are always willing, well done Carol and Paddy highly recommend !!

Visited the Horse & Jockey recently with my husband and one of our friends and I must say that we were very impressed. The food was excellent and the chips were to die for!!! The staff were very friendly and helpful and we will not hesitate to visit there again. They also have a function room, although we didn't look at it, but since we live only half a mile away we might consider the venue for our Golden wedding next year so we will ask to see it the next time we visit.

A very local pub with average food and drink. Better facilities close by so drive past if you can and try to avoid.

What a lovely pub, fantastic ambience with a warm and welcoming feel. Not often you can go to a pub now and have freshly cooked food; well you can in this pub - home made chips... not only brings lovely memories back but food is very enjoyable. The menu is sufficient for a pub plus their are also specials on offer.The staff are very attentive and very, very pleasant. We have now been here for just a drink and also food; the entertainment evenings are fantastic and the place has a lovely buzzing atmosphere and always made to feel welcome.A lovely public house with great landlord/lady - Nice to have a really good pub in the area

Tuesday 6th May 2014 my sister and I popped along to this local refurbished venue to sample the food on offer and I must say their liver and onions with 'real' mash and veg were to die for. The room has been redecorated sympathetically with a snug cosy home feel to it. The staff were really helpful and friendly. I would recommend family or couples to go eat here, its not your formal type of place but if your looking for great value home cooked food at a reasonable price this is the place to go.

Been a few times to this pub. Staff are helpful and friendly. Went for an 18th birthday with family. There was 17 of us eating. We all ordered our food together but sadly didn't eat together. Food came in dribs and drabs so as one part of the party were finishing the others were just starting. The problem seemed to lie with the mixed grills!! The last member of our party got her food when everyone else bar one had finished. By this time she had gone off her food. When it eventually did arrive the piece of steak (if that's what you could call it) was awful, full of fat and gristle and uneatable. This meal was understandably left. The lady from behind the bar asked if there was a problem as it had been left and upon seeing the food on the plate could understand why. She proceeded to take the plate of food away and spoke to the management. A full refund, no quibble was given without much prompting. Would probably try again but don't think they can cope with larger parties of people. Sad but couldn't let it spoil our evening.

Held our sons christening here in the function room upstairs. Lovely clean room. Toilet on same floor was handy for guests. Great food. Was relaxed about booking from beginning not demanding deposits, bond money etc like other establishments I had enquired to. Same relaxed service followed throughout whole function. My husband enjoyed the traditional ales. Would definitely be back as a customer or to use function room again.

The Horse and Jockey is now the best pub in town. The food is great and value for money. Paddy & Carol are great and the atmosphere is always amazing.

Held my son's christening/2nd Birthday Party at this Venue. The function Room was gorgeous, brilliantly re-decorated to a vey high standard. Fit 60+ friends and family very comfortably! Everyone commented on how friendly the staff were and how great the venue was! Such great value and i am so pleased we have found this gem near us in Wednesbury! Trying to find excuses for party's now! Would reicommend to Everyone! Thankyou to Carol and the team!

Decided to go for a family meal a bit last minute for my 50th birthday meal was absolutely fantastic excellent value very tasty proper home cooked food staff very friendly definatley go again.

Seven of us booked for a Christmas meal and have got to say we have been meeting up every year for the last 10 years going to different venues and can honestly say this was the best meal by far. The food served came out hot and the portions were more than ample. Also plenty of parking round back on car park. Carol and the staff really looked after us well, we have all said we will definitely go again.

Recently refurbished, The "Jockey" has been given a new lease of life. It's comfortable and welcoming with a newly expanded range of beers and wines. Excellent staff, Highly recommended.

There where 19 of us went to the Horse and Jockey today at half 12 for our Christmas meal, it was 10 out of 10 food was delicious , large portions, great atmosphere would highly recommend, Carol and the bar staff where so quick and waited on us, great value, we will be going back very soon, well done !

Located on a main road there is good parking. There is a public bar, restaurant and function room.The bar is a little bit unwelcoming as it seems well supported by locals and their children who don't want any 'outsiders' joining them.Food is served in the small restaurant. The menu is not extensive but there is a good choice including home made pies, burgers and fish and chips at reasonable prices. The portions were ample and well presented. The staff are friendly and attentive.

We went into the bar ,4 people in, no atmosphere, in restaurant room we looked at the menu nothing really inspiring on it, when food came it was no different to anywhere locally in a pub,just pub grub .we would rather eat in a proper restaurant like Casa Mia or in the many Indian restaurants with a dining experience. Why isn't there a good steak bar in Wednesbury like the Horse and Jockey used to be when it was a quality place years ago.The only place for a decent steak now is Miller and Carter chain but sadly not one in Wednesbury. we can only hope !

Had a lovely meal for four, food and service were excellent. Steaks cooked to perfection with a warm welcome and excellent value for money. Highly recommended. Thanks to all the staff for a lovely evening, see you again soon.....

New decor, food not too good. Ok, it fills your belly but the portions are no where near what used to be served here or as tasty I can tell you! The menu was kinda uninteresting as well, just a smaller version of Wetherspoons up the road. It may sound that i'm being unfair in my review but this place used to be individual. 24oz T bone steaks, rack of Lamb, hotpots etc on the specials board and all VERY tasty. While I must admit the decor and cleanliness is a 100% improvement on the past place and you haven't got the rowdy football fans in the bar anymore, I feel the menu lets it down somewhat. Lets see what happens over the next few months eh? You gotta walk before you can run......

Firstly I would say my parents had the last two lamb shanks and my father raved about it. Unfortunately i had the beef which was incredibly tough. On a plus note the veg was all really good. Desert was a decent cheesecake but no crunchy base, again my father said the roly poly was superb. After reading such great reviews I have to say I was a little disappointed but will probably give it another try at a later date as I am sure this will have been just an off day or the wrong selection on my part. Had my dad reviewed this he would have followed suit with other reviews and given it a 5. I hope to do the same if I go back.

This is a lovely pub, the food tonight was great, home cooked but a good variety, my carbonara was delicious, my friend had liver and onions, hit the spot perfectly. The menu is very reasonably priced so ditch the M6 or Ikea Birmingham, 2 minutes away from junction 9 and so friendly, so if you need to eat good food at a good price, you know where to come. Highly recommended.
