Great spot for lunch or for an evening meal. Great quality and portion sizes and reasonable prices- great customer service - what more would you need?

Lovely food and lovely atmosphere. Was nice to just relax with family after a stressful day and just enjoy the evening in a lovely and friendly place

We don’t live near Holbeach but would definitely recommend this place. Excellent food and atmosphere. Staff friendly and can’t do enough for you. We had four different meals and they were all really tasty and excellent value for money. I can’t think of anything bad to say.

The H&G is one of our local pubs so we visit it often and the friendliness and food is always good, however they have a new chef the meal we had last night was at another level. There were 4 of us in our party, no space Ila occasion just friends getting together and we ate in the small but very comfortable restaurant. 2 had steaks which they said were cooked exactly as they had requested, the accompaniments were very good, the chips outstanding, and the pepper and mushroom sauces really tasty. The steak and Stilton salad exceeded all expectations, not just a Stilton sauce but a perfectly cooked steak with large chunks of good Stilton on a tasty salad. I had the sea bass with new potatoes and veg as I was looking for a light meal and it didn’t disappoint. Really crispy skin on fillet, on a bed of lovely potatoes in a light sauce, with wilted spinach and vine tomatoes. 2 of us had deserts, a beautifully presented homemade caramel cheesecake and a delicious Baileys cream brûlée with a home made shortbread. Both were not too large and very tasty. Service from the two waitresses was very good considering the bar was also busy and they were short staffed. Overall an excellent evening with great food and we’d all recommend it.

A very friendly “locals” high Street pub. 4 of us had dinner here with our 3 dogs. I’m not going to lie, my expectations weren’t particularly high however I was wrong to judge this pub before everyone had a chance to make us welcome. The food was good, some of it excellent (Gorgonzola chicken & Treacle sponge) and all in all was a great experience.

Went here last night for my sons 18th Birthday. Staff are lovely and friendly, menu you isn’t extensive, but there was something for everyone. Every course was presented well, servings were generous, food was well cooked and tasted delicious. Thank you for making my boys birthday meal x

Mother in laws funeral, booked in as from the North Wales coast and really needed to know that we could relax. Arrived prior to opening but wasn't a problem, quick phone call and Nick arrived with the keys. The room was very compact but more than adequate, and the use of an old stable block for 3 rooms is really imaginative, a bonus to have a designated parking spot for the room. The wake was in another pub in the town but when we returned to the Horse and Groom in time to have another 3 or so, the atmosphere was lovely and very busy, when we retired I slept like a log in the comfortable, squishy bed. Morning brought a promise of breakfast that didn't disappoint, full English piping hot and beautifully cooked using quality ingredients, full for the rest of the day. Value for money, loved it, will be booking in over Easter hopefully. Thanks guys.

We visited the Horse and Groom Public House in November for Sunday lunch. My sister and her husband had eaten there before, and they suggested that we give it go. The venue is a typical English pub that also offers food. We had a typical Sunday lunch but with a choice of one, two or even three different meets. We had a choice of lamb, beef, and turkey (or all three of course). Everything was well prepared and looked good on the plate. I must say that we didn’t have a first course. We just settled for a main course and a dessert. I chose hot chocolate fudge cake. Lovely jubbly. Would we eat here again? Yes Would we recommend this to others? Yes we would.

Four of us stayed here for an overnight stay. A lovely hotel with three modern guest rooms in a separate building. Whilst the rooms are small they are adequately equiped and furnished and ideal for a short stay. Everywhere was very clean and the evening meals and breakfasts were very good. If staying over a weekend it is advisable to book the evening meal if required. All the staff we came in contact with were very friendly and efficient. Overall very good value for money and definitely recommended

We didn't get further than the door so can't comment on food. We were abused by a woman behind the bar as we entered the building so we left

The owners were fantastic working with another hotel to help save our holiday and family wedding stay when thing went badly wrong with another . The staff were so helpful in sorting out our family and we are very grateful for their help. The little rooms at the back or the hotel were very modern and clean. Nicely decorated. We ate at the pub and the food was very nice and bar staff helpful. live music on the Saturday night which stopped before we had a chance to listen to it, what we did hear was very good. We would recommend this hotel to everyone.

The initial waitress, Julie, was extremely helpful but the next waitress, Trudy, was rather aggressive at the table especially when we requested ice cream of different flavours. Also the beef burger included a relish but instead a Marie Rose was presented which was not good. Very disappointing indeed.

Although only a small pub it has 3 guests rooms at the back, we only wanted overnight but from booking to leaving staff were helpful and friendly. The rooms are not massive, but OK for short stay, Clean, warm, comfortable with tea/coffee/biscuits, toiletries and face flannel provided, limited hanging space above a chair, but with clean towels and under floor heating followed by a marvellous full english breakfast, a great place to stay.

I was here on a course at the local university. It was very nice and very well looked after. The bed was very comfortable and really enjoyed the stay. It was close to the local amenities. I am hoping to stay again in October. Thank you

After witnessing a female customer be verbally abused (called fat and other derogatory comments) I approached the lady to see if she was OK as she was in tears I was told that it's fine as she was a regular and the person making said comments was her husband I was asked to leave after defending the lady.. Under no circumstances would this be permitted but it seems profile is more important that decent respect. . If you like small mindeed yokals it's the pub for you. If you'd live in this Cerney it's good for you

Very relaxed. Food very good enjoyed the night. So relaxed that the waitress didn't listen to orders. My friend ordered rhubarb crumble for desert as it is her favourite. When it arrived it was blueberry and apple crumble.

Came here as own hotel nearby was not providing dinner. A fairly ordinary-looking place but an extraordinary dining experience! Home-made soup was delicious and I then chose the beef salad. I was unsure what to expect but wow!….steak cooked to perfection, ample shavings of parmesan on a bed of great salad with just the right amount of balsamic dressing. I ordered chips too and out they came, each as thick as your thumb and just perfectly cooked! (Amazing how many ‘chefs’ can balls up chips!) So, my colleague (who opted for the rather splendid-looking burger) ate like royalty for pauper prices. I’m rarely impressed at meal-times and have all-but cut out dining out except for work reasons as the service is generally insultingly poor (food delivered rather than served!) and the fayre is so often so-so and expensive. So, rip-off joints watch out - this is how a good pub keeps the punters happy. Thanks also to the landlady for her friendliness and service. Beer is jolly good too! Thank you!

Five of us went for a birthday lunch which had been booked for three weeks. We had booked for 1pm and arrived at 12.30 for pre meal drinks. The pub wasn't busy but the service was very slow. We sat down, looked at the menu and I went to order the meal at 12.50. I was told in an abrupt manner that I couldn't order because it wasn't 1pm !!! 1pm came and went so I went to see where the staff were. It appeared that there was only two staff on, 1 taking the orders and the cook. The waitress eventually appeared to take our order and explained she could not take our order before time in case it got lost and the cook was still preparing another tables meal. We ordered but was told we couldn't have bread with our fish and chips because "they don't do that". We watched while two separate couples entered the pub asking if they served food only to be told that they would have to wait at least 40 minutes before they could place the order. Both couples walked out. Another couple that was already sat at a table when we arrived decided to order a meal. They were also told in a rude manner that they would have to wait until we had received our meal and the waitress couldn't tell them how long that would be. After a few words the couple got up and left. The food arrived and was very sparse on the plates. Certainly not worth the price they were charging. All in all the service was terrible, the customer care was appalling and the attitude towards potential customers was unbelievable. We will certainly not be returning to this establishment or recommending them to family and friends.

We are stating in holbeach for a couple of nights for a bit of a getaway. After our Indian last night hubby was feeling steak. So we had seen that the horse and groom were offering a limited menu and they even had a sign in the window showing kitchen times. After a couple of beers in another pub we headed down to the pub for our eagerly anticipated steaks. On entering we asked if food was being served as we couldn't smell anything nor was anyone eating, we were told quite abruptly that food wasn't being served until a week Monday and that they were only accepting cash. As we no longer carry cash we were quite surprised this was the case. So we left.Again if you aren't serving food, don't advertise that you are. Very very dissapointed

This pub has three nicely refurbished rooms in the old stables behind the car park. We did not feel they were terribly good value for money at £70 a night plus breakfast. They are quite small and had underfloor heating which seemed impossible to switch off, it kept coming on even though the controller was set to off. So it was very hot in the room for sleeping and the location straight on the car park meant you could not leave the door or window open.It could also be quite noisy as it’s located right next to the pub’s outside area so every time someone drunk comes out to smoke they are yelling at each other. Pub users could wander right by your window so there was not much privacy. Having said that it was very quite after 11pm, but these are just a place to sleep not a place for a relaxing time.The food in the pub was very good, we had dinner there and one breakfast.

Have eaten in the restaurant many times..... & have never been disappointed Thank you so much for restoring my faith in takeaway food.

Some of the pictures on TA suggest more of a fine dining establishment. I don't know if this is different in non-covid times but what we found was great pub type food, with one or two really interesting dishes. Sadly the vegetarian lasagne had just run out but we had scampi, and ham and eggs, and were not disappointed. A good pint or two of Adnams Southwold bitter to help wash it down. It was obviously quite popular as more people arrived after the advertised end of food service. Plenty of Covid protection measures in evidence, which may have added a bit to the waiting time, but not excessively.

We partaked of a little light afternoon drinks poo's on a few occasions on our holiday, food and drink is reasonably priced and the establishment is clean and welcoming x

Came here on Christmas Eve lunch time. Great service. Good variety of food. Good value for money. Would highly recommend.

The pub was warm and cosy. The staff were really friendly. The food was perfect and homely. I had the pie of the day, which was huge and was packed full of meat. The portion sizes are extremely generous and the food is very good quality. I’m looking forward to coming here again

The horse and groom has a great deal of drinks to choose from such as soft drinks, beer and wine. The staff are very friendly and greet you with a warm smile. The food is the part that sums it up. All together amazing.

Went in tonight Saturday Evening with friends, no Rump steak, no Sea Bass both was ordered then told 30 minutes later out of them, asked if would mind Mussels had them instead,came without bread. Wrong dessert came did give us a free drink but will not be going back.

Although we didn't eat here the food looked fabulous, drinks reasonably priced & staff very friendly, if we stay in the area again will definitely have a meal.

We visited for a pre-booked family Birthday meal, the room where the restaurant was was a bit cramped and the chairs were really unsuitable for the tables. It took forever for the food to arrive, but was well presented and was very tasty. We ordered desserts and these too took forever to arrive - strange as they were cheesecake / ice cream type desserts. Overall, OK but slow and a bit pricey!

Lovely place very friendly staff and customers was my first visit and we were made to feel so welcome. Food there is great too ! I'd say if your looking for a traditional pub that serves great food. Give this place a visit

Having heard good reports a friend and i went to the Horse and Groom recently for dinner. We were seated in the cosy little dining room, separate from the bar but still able to hear the buzz of conversation from the other patrons. The service was friendly and efficient. The food was delivered promptly, and everything that we ordered was of a very high standard and well presented; from prawn cocktail with lovely big fresh grilled prawns, and mushrooms in cream sauce for starters through mains of liver and onions and an outstanding venison pie, to puds. We were very impressed and thrilled to find such quality food in Holbeach, and will definitely be back. Well done!

Real 'old' country type coaching inn pub, small bar menu choice-wise but this allows the focus on quality. Locally sourced products are excellent. Cant go wrong with the Bangers N Mash with real Lincoln (local) sausages!

Husband and I called in for dinner tonight,at 745pm were told not able to be seated till 830pm in the restaurant .We decided to wait and we were not disappointed. I ordered the lamb shank and it was amazing so delicious, very generous and best I have had anywhere and we come from Australia.Husband had the smoked salmon and asparagus and pasta and he was grinning ear to ear regards it taste, combination of flavours and the freshness of the asparagus.We so wanted to have dessert but were unable because the dishes were so generous .The waiter staff were extremely friendly and the atmosphere was lovely would return if only to try the desserts we had no room for .Very good pricing as well

Stopped in for lunch to break up a long journey up the East coast with two tired and hot children. The waitress/bar maid was so lively and we sat outside at the back to eat our lunch. The menu was huge and the food was lovely. I had a steak sandwich and it was so nice.

I have just eaten at the Horse & Groom and was amazed at what appeared when ordering a prawn cocktail - forget the soggy mush of the 70's - this was made with huge, warm tiger prawns and a delicious home made sauce - served with garlic bread. What a wonderful take on an old favorite!!

The pub has started doing the Wednesday roast. Two thick slices of beef, toasties, mash, Yorkshire pudding, stuffing and eleven different vegetables. Nicely cooked and all for £7.95. Amazing value. Just bring a huge appetite as it's not for small eaters.

This was our first and won't be last, Sunday lunch at the Horse and Groom. We had a traditional English Sunday roast, and the food was outstanding, the meal was served with ten different vegetables, each of which was cooked to perfection.

We were very impressed with the food quality & presentation and the staff were very friendly and attentive considering they are also running the bar. Thoroughly enjoyed our lunch throughout so complements to the chef. I think you'd be hard pushed to find better value for money in the area.

Visiting the area and stopped here just for a quick bar meal. Really friendly barman and nothing was too much trouble. The food was freshly cooked and served piping hot (happily no 'ping' of a microwave either). Fabulous food, plenty of it and REAL chips - bonus! Would certainly come here again.

Acceso era relativamente fácil, algo siempre estoy preocupado de cuando la maniobra de la silla de ruedas. Nos pareció que el acceso a la mesa, era fácil con un montón de espacio para la silla de ruedas y pedimos nuestra comida y bebidas en el bar. La comida era razonable, muy sabroso y abundante. El pub tiene un ambiente agradable y acogedor con un precioso jardín de la cerveza Si no llueve! Hablé con algunos clientes que había estado en el ser y ser alojamiento la noche anterior y nos dijeron que habíamos tenido un fin de semana. En general, un pequeño pub en el centro de holbeach, que ofrece buena comida a precios razonables en un ambiente acogedor.

Un grupo de 18 clientes para el almuerzo, el met pub tenía un ambiente amable. Nos había pedido nuestras peticiones menú, porque el grupo era grande, una vez estábamos sentados nuestras comidas salió rápidamente, tuberías porciones caliente, y muy buena, y cada persona disfrutamos de sus comidas. Rang up Sunday to ask if they did food on Sunday nights...Yes we do ..6pm to 9pm....we don't like eating too early..so we turned up just before 8pm..To be told...the kitchen can't take any more orders...sorry. I said we rang earlier and you said you were open till nine...no matter..Can't take any more orders.Very strange..as I looked round and saw only two couples waiting to Eat!!!...Maybe they just couldn't be bothered????? Went across road ..Chinese takeaway...they could be bothered..thankyou.! My advice...stick with the black lion at Gedney.

Called in on a Sat evening & were surprised how quiet it was. The staff were lovely & seated us at a comfy table. As other reviews have said, there is no separate restaurant, but it didn't cause us any problems. The food was fine, with a good menu choice, & we would recommend the ice cream, both ours were yummy. Good value, a nice meal.

This pub offers a variety of pub food, but it is not worth writing home about. The restaurant tables are in the main pub and can be very noisy and very crowded with non diners! Please do not go out of your way to eat here as it is very ordinary and does nothing to stand out from the crowd.

Ecellant local pub, good beer, good menu on Monday buy one get one free. Live music on some weekends worth a visit.

Good food at good prices and friendly atmosphere , we often go here just even for a couple of drinks as its our local , but can't fault the place !

Lovely food, well presented, very clean pub and the toilets were immaculate. We just called in today for a quick bite on our way through. I had chicken burger and chips, my partner had Stilton and mushroom burger with chips, which he said was lovely. The hand cut chips were really good, as was the homemade coleslaw. The lady who served us was very friendly and it seemed like a nice place to come for a drink or a meal, and quite reasonably priced too. There was a bit of a wait but that was explained to us so it was ok.

What a great restaurant. This is now the second time I have been and both times it has been great. The food was lovely and the staff so attentive. Would highly recommend this to all, very reasonable and great size portions.

The rooms where dirty, there was messy bedsheets, along with marks on them aswell. The food was half cooked and the staff where rude, I will not be coming back and will let everyone I know not to go to this place!

Fantastic atmosphere, friendly town pub. Lacked some of the items on the menu on the occasion we stayed for for but this may have been a one off. Staff are friendly and always serve with a smile.

My partner and i had a lovely lunch here in October 2015. We both had ham, egg and chips, I had a coffee and he had a bottle of water and it was just over £20.

Good service - was warned there would be a wait as they were busy but my meal arrived quicker than at a lot of places! Interesting menu, good specials board.

Ate here for the first time last night. Warm welcome from the barmaid who showed us to our tables and gave us plenty of time to decide on our meal choices. I had a baguette melt from the light bite menu, but it was more than enough with a portion of chips to make a very filling main meal and only cost £7.00. Warm atmosphere and a very friendly service from the girl on the bar. Me and my friends will definitely be back.

We were welcomed and shown to our table with our drinks. We were goven ample time to make our minds up on what we wanted to eat. Our starter that we shared arrived and was lovely. Once finished our mains came 5 minutes later which was really nice. We then decided we would have a pudding which took a little longer to come but understandable due to 2 larger parties coming in but we didnt mind as it allowed time for our mains to go down. I had 3 pints and a scotch, my wife had 2 large glasses of red and a baileys which was all included in the £52 bill which we felt was very reasonable. Will be back

I should make it clear that this review and rating is as a pub only as we only went in for a couple of drinks, so I can't comment on the food.This has a fairly pleasant and comfortable bar, although with more of a hotel bar atmosphere rather than that of a traditional pub ambience. It had two good ales on tap (Adnams and Doom Bar when I visited). It offers a ‘lite bites’ menu (burgers, baguettes, jackets etc.) as well as a main menu, which lists the usual pub grub selection. Commendably this offers the option of smaller portions at a lower price which, although we didn’t eat there, is a welcome but not that common feature of restaurant menus.All in all we found it a comfortable bar for a drink, and pub meal if you wanted, although without being anything special. As for rating it, as Trip Advisor doesn’t give the option of a ‘Good’ rating (which I would have rated it), I cannot say anything about it lifted it to be ‘Very Good’ (for a pub), so it has to be and average marking.

We visited the Horse & Groom for an evening meal a few days ago and it was really good, so we thought we would try the Sunday lunch, what an inspired decision that turned out to be.All 4 in our group agreed it was the best pub Sunday lunch we have had. Two of our group had Roast Beef & Two had roast Lamb. We have never seen so much meat on one plate and that includes what we serve at home. Add on 8 different fresh vegetables plus new & roast potatoes, you have one heck of a meal and all for £7.95 each.The only disappointment was that the meal was so huge, none of us could manage a pudding, which I am sure would be every bit as good.They also have a nice range of excellent draught beers and really friendly staff. When we are in the area again the Horse & Groom will be our first port of call.

We went on a Monday when they have the two for the price of one offer. We didn't need to book a table in advance. The menu was standard pub grub with a daily specials board.The beef was excellent and there was plenty of it. It was the first time that I had seen my husband defeated! Such good value for money. We would eat here again if we were in the area.

My partner and I use this pub frequently. We usually pop in for a couple on a Friday before a local kebab takeaway.Anyhow one Saturday we popped in in the evening a decided to have a meal.We always thought the standard of the food looked excellent and there was a lot on the plates.We were not disappointed. We both had Sirloin steaks, which were cooked as we both like it, to perfection.Looking around at the other diners and their fare, it was apparent we were not the only patrons who were extremely satisfied.I recommend this pub and their grub to all.

Food excellent but the portions are extremely large. Nice atmosphere and enjoyable local.Comfortable, a great place for either a glass of wine or a coffee.

Five of us booked a table for Sunday lunch, and we're all very impressed. We have eaten at The Horse and Groom in the past, so knew it would be a nice meal.The choice of meat was either roast beef, roast lamb or gammon. I chose lamb, and my plate arrived with three nice thick slices, two roast potatoes and two boiled potatoes, along with a Yorkshire pudding. We all had either beef of lamb. The vegetables arrived on serving dishes; cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, swede, green beans, carrots, leeks, and roast parsnips. All fresh and nicely cooked with just the right amount of firmness.There was enough for everyone, and more left over. The lamb was beautifully cooked, obviously from a leg of lamb joint, and it was tender and tasty.We didn't have starters and didn't have room for a pudding.At just £7.25 a head, the meal was amazing value. I would highly recommend Sunday lunch at The Horse and Groom.

Good friendly service, big baguettes. Friendly atmosphere. Only had a quick lunch so can't say much more but they certainly didn't do anything wrong.

My friend and I have visited The Horse and Groom twice now and each time the food has been consistently very good, the staff are very friendly and helpful, always good to be offered choices with salad dressing etc, even a choice ofchip type!The decor is good and the landlord has managed to create an extremely pleasant atmosphere.

I use this pub all the time as it's really clean and friendly. The food is well cooked and presented, and the prices while not cheap, are very reasonable for the quality. The staff are very friendly and more importantly the toilets are modern and spotless. There is a small patio garden at the rear, where they have live bands in the summer, with 3 self contained b&b rooms created from what looks like the old stables, and a car park.

Great real ales, fantastic freshly cooked food and staff that become friends overnight.I had one night of food here and wished I could have had time to eat more often, lasagna and side salad, better than I have eaten in Italy...The beer is real ales from Abbots, well stocked and looked after, oh and yum yum pork scratchings made me a happy customer.

We booked after seeing an ad saying Monday buy one get one free, this is not the case only the specials board is buy one get one free and mainly consists of fish dishes, we ordered from the full price menu and was advised 3 times and after half an hour our order was sold out, we ordered an alternative and eventually after an hour received our food which was disgusting but by this time too late to go anywhere else so ate what we could, we asked to see the owners but were told they were away and the person running the place was out and basically told because we had ate some of the meal it was tough and had to pay!!

My brother and I visited here yesterday with our auntie and uncle who live in the town. We had a good meal with lots of choice on the main and dessert menus. The only problem was the length of time we waited for our meals. I appreciate that food is cooked fresh for each customer but a slice of cheesecake should not take 20 minutes to prepare! Wouldn't put us off but worth considering. Looks like a good BOGOF offer on Mondays!

we visited this restaurant after finding an advert in a spalding newspaper by the side of our favourite restaurant (the mermaid) which is on mondays,we were delighted by the value for money and the quality of the food for the price,the choice was exellant for the set price menu and buy one get one free on mondays means we will be returning often.

We visited for lunch as was invited by friends as being central to holbeach the pub looks quaint and clean bar man very attentive that's where it finished unfortunately. The food service was slow they have table and chairs all over (far too many). I struggle with walking and asked for a place with more room and close to the door but that was too much trouble so we sat like chickens waiting. The bar was noisey with drinkers and at times the language was not what I would have liked to hear. The food was hot and was what I expected. We will pop their for drinks but I'm sorry to say for food we will look elsewhere

Booked in with parents and my bro for Sunday Lunch. I've eaten here, stayed in the rooms Nick has for BnB and it's all been ok. Although I wouldn't rave about the place, it's honest pub grub. A decent roast with plenty of fresh, well prepared veg. Starters and desserts, as expertly prepared as they were, were bought in and this was a minus for me but they haven't got the room or staff to do any more. Friendly staff, attentive service and good portion size nudged it towards a four but I think the three is a fair rating. It is, after all a pub that does food.

I reviewed this re s Sunday Lunch and gave it high marks, We as a family returned on a Monday evening for a birthday evening meal and what a difference. The food was average the service was rubbish. We booked a table for 6.15pm we arrived at 6.00pm and got to out table at 6.10pm. we ordered a meal behind four other tables. Our meal arrived 1 hour 10 minutes later the other four tables 3 had eaten and gone and the fourth had had their starter and was finishing their main course as our meal arrived. All we had was steak and chips, burger and chips and scampi and chips. Why did it take 1hr and 10min. to serve? We had been told there would be a short delay. The food was only average and the cheapest bottle of wine was £13.95. We will not return, and unfortunately I CANNOT recommend this place for an evening meal.

After arriving very hungry the food arrived at our table not looking very appetising and one was wrong. The lasagne looked like it had been left under the grill for too long and was burnt. We didn't feel we could complain as the dining room was full of drinkers watching the loud darts competition. Not a place to go for a nice quiet meal with friends.

Went to this pub for a meal for the first time for a Sunday dinner, what a treat. Had the regular roast beef, plenty of meat 8 veg plus 2 types of potatoes plenty of gravy all for under £8.00 per head. the sweets where well presented and well cooked. The staff where friendly and helpful. All in all a very good meal at a very acceptable price. Well worth a visit.

Madness Monday is buy one get one free meal deal. For three of us to have lunch it cost £20 not including drinks. Great food, friendly staff. Absolutely wonderful. No complaints here.
