Been here a few times now as my daughter lives closely with her family. Every time we go I am struck by just how friendly the people are. An experience that is not so common these days where it is a community local where everyone seems to know each other - and good beer as well.

Came here for a drink on the off chance. Was wonderfully greeted by the landlady Caroline and sampled the excellent range of real ales. Normally one guest ale on during the week then Friday sat and Sunday normally 3 guest ales as well as the usual ales that are one all the time. Lovely atmosphere and open fires in 2 rooms and a lot burger in the snug. Spacious conservatory that allows dogs and children. This is a family run establishment that is very welcoming and easy to while away the hours with a few pints and pleasant conversation. Will definatley recommend.

Need to correct an earlier review. This Horse and Groom does not do food! It is a superbly family run traditional pub that is clean and has a great range of well kept real ales. Spacious conservatory and garden. Camera shy land lady!

Really dissapointed - absolutely terrible. We were left 45minutes before our starters turned up, then 20 minutes laters had to ask for our plates to be taken away. Mains then took another 40 minutes to come out and we had to grab a waitress to see what was taking so long. When we did recieve our food it was really over cooked and practically burnt see photo.. I only ate some of it because I was so hungry!! We had one drink the whole time we were there and were not once offered a refill - this can not be blamed on a busy service either as when we arrived there were only a few tables filled. Did not want to kick up a fuss due to the fact that the table next to us was celebrating a birthday and had just sat down Really dissapointed.

Lovely "proper" pub with two bar sides and a very large conservatory for families. This pub is a gem, service is great and the beer is lovely and they also have a great selection of real ales. Also perfect for summer nights with the outdoor seating area. It doesn't do food but they do sell various fresh frozen items which I suggest you try as everything I have tried has been lovely. All in all one of my favourite pubs, great service, very friendly and welcoming.

Nice friendly atmosphere didn't sample any of the fine ales available due to having the car with me Pleasant surroundings nice decor Unfortunately the distance for ourselves will make it doubtful for a return but you never know I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to anyone that likes a traditional country pub

As a solo traveller, and staying in the local village, it was very nice to go at the end of a long day and enjoy some chatter with the local community. The people were very friendly, the comfort and feeling of being made welcome was great. I met so many nice people and will definately make myself known again next I am in England.

A fantastic pub to have a quick run out to in the car. A proper old pub, no restaurant, but always busy, all the staff and locals are friendly. Beer is cheaper than a lot of pubs, and they often have a few real ales on. They do bar snacks, the pork pie us very nice. We always go to the classic car night, some decent cars turn up and the atmosphere is great.

My family visit this pub on a regular basis travelling 45 minutes each way by motorway to get there. If has a fantastic atmosphere, cracking ales and sell a range of excellent products from beef, pork, turkey, chickens, legendary pork pies. It is family run and if you like a bit of good banter this is the place for you. I must point out I can cope with my 5'10" 20 stone frame without being offended. I think some folk need to grow up

Initially called in for a quick pint on the way home on a sunny day after being recommended by the Good pub guide, I was greeted by the Landlord commenting on my weight, something iv later on found out is not something im not alone in. So rather than getting irate and causing a disruption to others, I feel its my duty to inform you that if you want to receive uncomfortable unnecessary derogatory comments by a 5 ft 3 old man, then this is the best place for you, however if you just want a quiet pint in a nice friendly boozer then this isnt the place to spend your cash. FYI I am 6ft 1 and under 15 stone, I hope this helps some of you find a better place to go.

Came to Bolsover for the day on my wife's birthday to have a pub lunch and to visit the castle. Having read the positive reviews we went straight to the Blue Bell. Walking into the beer garden at about 11.50 we saw that the view on a good day would be spectacular. Unfortunately the weather was bad so in order to eat inside we went to the door marked ‘Entrance’ which was locked. I checked on line and saw the opening time was 12 am (??) so we waited. A few minutes after 12 the back door opened and we entered only to be told there was no food (no reason given). Although there was a sign at the bar, a notice outside would have saved time being wasted. Fortunately there are other places to eat so we went elsewhere.

Really a let down. Wasn’t worth coming. Had a meal in the cafe and feel robbed. Wasn’t worth the price paid. £21 for two mini breakfasts, charged extra for toast and a pot of tea. Not to mention by the time you have got through there stupid ordering and queuing system to pay it’s cold! I really won’t be returning here!
