Booked on line but weren't expecting us when we got there. No orders taken at table but had to join a long queue to order food and drinks,then waited 40 mins for food. Food very disappointing, undercooked veg and roasts,gravy very thin and waterey,yorkshire puds uneatable. Will not be returning.

Great pub,good service and good selection of beers.

Been coming here since I was a kid. And though it's changed hands a few times it's always a great one to visit. Today we popped in after a dog walk for lunch and it was very nice. We recommend the teriyaki halloumi fries and chilli chicken sandwich. Staff always friendly too 😊

Really looking forward to having Sunday lunch after a week in hospital. Ordered our food & drink by the manager. One dinner out of three was correct, left the correct one & went to reorder the other two. The staff kept apologizing for the dreadful mistakes. Not once did the manager say sorry, she in fact walked off when we went to pay. All she was interested in was a guy that was sat in the dining room. We loved this pub before it was taken over, who ever the new owner is needs to give that manager some customer service training.

Don't rely on kitchen being open. First visit kitchen closed for maintenance. Second visit kitchen closed early.... on weekend??! (despite phoning earlier to check). Poor form, very disappointed, however we had a great curry after 15min drive to place that kitchen was in operation as stated on website and confirmed on phone. (Great pint of pedigree though)

Not had food in a while , but wow we had a great roast this Sunday. 😋

Nice pub in a nice area but outdoor seating could do with a revamp. Everything looks and feels like it’s weathered. Also took an hour for food to arrive which dampened the experience.

Really friendly staff and nice location but the Sunday roast is very bland and gravy watery, it’s also quite pricy. Get someone in to teach the chef how to make a Yorkshire pudding and use salt and pepper.

We have been here a few times in the past but since it’s changed hands we thought we would try for an early evening Saturday dinner,we ordered salmon with fondant potato,the salmon was overcooked and dry, the fondant potato was 2 small hard roast potatoes! And fish and chips was terrible a formed piece of what looked like boxed frozen fish,tasted cheap and greasy and the chips were tasteless,dried up cold mushy peas and a tartare sauce in a small pot ,should have realised as it was cheaply priced compared to what it used to be, gone massively down hill wouldn’t go again unfortunately not our kind of pub.

Absolutely amazing family Dinner. Served excellence burgers. I really liked the supreme chicken. My son loved the waffle cheese cake. Definitely back!!!

Had a lovely Sunday lunch here! Really ticks all the boxes - lovely location, friendly staff, prompt service, delicious food, well presented, dog friendly, nice environment.. we had the gammon and a side of cauliflower cheese to share, all great. We will back!

Went for a family roast dinner here and we all thoroughly enjoyed it! great food! great staff! especially Tina who was serving us at the time very welcoming. Will be returning soon.

We have been to the Horse and Groom lots of times but this was the first time, since its reopened. Out of 7 meals, nobody enjoyed theirs. I had a Sunday lunch and when served, the vegetables were stone cold. There was also a small cube of cremated Stuffing on the plate. The side of cauliflower cheese, had been in the microwave for too long, it's was scalding hot and mushy. I've never complained about a meal before but after paying nearly £20, I complained to a member of staff and she took it away and returned the same plate of food, they had removed the stuffing and put it in the microwave. So the Yorkshire and Roast potatoes were all soggy and the veg was still cold. Used to love this place but will not be returning

Prices are very expensive, £16 for bangers and mash is ridiculous, never again

Lovely pub. Full of character, didn't get to sample the food properly but menu looks good. Staff were stretched because of a large group but worked really hard. The outside area is great with plenty of space for kids to play

Stopped off here on Saturday on way back from charity event ( 25 of us ) staff were very friendly and welcoming nice beer so we stayed for 3 rounds, didn't eat but food smelt good well worth a visit

Had great expectations after the pub reopening and a vibe of positivity. My family decided to come for Sunday lunch, sadly what a disaster and disappointment. Firstly, underwhelming Sunday dinner, dry, bland and uninspiring. As for the children’s chicken nuggets, I have no words as the kids wouldn’t eat them. What a shame as the venue and location could be a real winner.

The food was to die for , succulent delicious and filling , I ordered a lot of food but unfortunately got full so decided to take home because it is simply TOO GOID TO LEAVE , 10/10 the staff was so friendly , I will be coming back I just can not believe how good the food is , its fabulous 😁😁😁

Family Sunday Lunch. 4 roast beef 3 Gammon and one chicken. Gammon was "thin cut", Chicken was of the Egyptian racing variety hence muscular and chewy, Beef was ripped from the sole of some old boots. Marston's Pedigree was, as usual, perfect. First time we have tried it and regrettably the last.

Visited again today after my previous glowing review in February. Struggled to find a table as they were all covered with glasses and left over cutlery. The bar staff didn’t seem over busy probably had a busy day shame put us off another visit 😢

We were two couples mid week lunchtime. The Service was first class and we really enjoyed the atmosphere of the place. There was a real English pub atmosphere with a warm, blazing fire.

A wonderful little pub that is dog and child friendly, with a warm and inviting atmosphere. Friendly and attentive service, with key attention to the details. Gorgeous local ales on tap, and excellent soul food that warms every part of you! A wide selection of pub favourites cooked from fresh, with locally sourced ingredients for that extra touch of authenticity. A decent selection of vegetarian and vegan options, and the portion sizes are perfectly priced. Will definitely be eating here again!

New owners have yet to find their feet. Advertised beers not abailable, tea and coffee no availsble yet, Steak pie (as good as ever) served with rather watery cabbage instead of advertised peas. I'll try again in a few weeks to find out how it's progressed.

Not overly impressed with the food mainly because it was piled onto a small plate and the Yorkshire pudding was flat but the beef was nice. Not a lot of choice either beef or chicken.

Bill and the team have revived the horse and groom, a warm and friendly atmosphere, and the food is exceptional. I had the Groom burger, and it really is for those who have a big appetite, but I managed 👍.

Just re-opened, so nice to see it back. New menu with classic pub food, fish batter was amazing, although would be better with hand cut chips not just frozen ones.

The new owner Phill is welcoming and so enthusiastic about the pub. You feel welcome ftom the minuite you step in. The new menu us excellent and the meal we had delicious with great service. Good range of ales, spirits and wine. Highly recommended

Just got back from a smashing lunch washed down with a couple of beers. The pub's just reopened under new management, great landlord & friendly staff, quality food & beer. Well worth a visit.

Went to eat here for the first time since the new owner took over. Food was lovely - nice portion sizes and freshly cooked . Service was excellent - all staff were very attentive. Will definitely be returning on a regular basis

Wonderful to have our local open and busy again! There's a real buzz about the place, everyone really seems to be enjoying themselves and the staff are friendly and attentive and also give the impression they're enjoying the pub and chatting with the customers. First pie night last night (Wednesdays going forward), food was fab, couldn't fault it. Looking forward to trying the rest of the new menu now :) Recommend to anyone it's worth popping in for a drink or bite to eat.

Hardly anything was available and what was rubbish and really uneatable. Very dark and dreary pub. Not like it was several years back. In need of updating big time.

Food was nice. Very generous portions and looks like someone genuinely cares about their menu. Albeit it took a long time to come out. The staff on the other hand, miserable. The older woman was just plain rude. The young girl serving had zero customer service skills. It was a shame as it was our first time.

Service a bit slow yet when soup arrived, it was not piping hot. Food not that good the chips looked like rubbish, some were pale some were shrivelled and almost black. The waitress said it is the way they are cooked. Not sure if she said twice cooked or thrice. Either way not good.

Poor food, luke warn chips fatty meat , lumpy potatoes and lumps in gravy. Service was slow. Older lady behind bar was unhelpful and not friendly at all£17 for fat with luke warm chips. Not happy. 😡

Past the Horse & Groom many times. But Friday 22nd September we held the horses and stopped. The best watering hole we’ve been in for a long time, at a radius of just 6.5 miles from Giltbrook, we shall not pass by again. This is not pub grub, it’s fabulous well cooked food! With quick turnaround from ordering. You can order at the bar or order from your table. We had beer batted fish and chips with a good portion of mushy peas 👏👏

We have been lots of times for meals, but the food has massively improved recently. We have tried different dishes off the menu and its always really tasty and loverly. Staff always friendly and prices very reasonable too.

Positives; nice outlook onto green, reasonable prices, gents loo was quite smart. Er, that's it, the rest was pretty grim. Decor very tired, worn carpets, sticky tables and most damningly food very greasy and lacking in taste.

Tables were dirty, food was poor for the money you pay, ordered puddings waited half an hour had to go in remind them, then they got it wrong, never will go back here, very dissapointed....

Absolutely fantastic 1st visit,Gr8 and helpful staff, also gr8 choice of food to choose from on the Menu, we had a lamb roast and a beef roast dinna and they were THE BEST WE have had for a long-time at a pub,defo recommend The horse+groom to anyone ,defo be going again soon

After a walk in the area we visited for lunch with a group of 20. Even with such a large group everything worked perfectly. The food was delicious and enjoyed by everybody and very efficiently served spot on time. The whole atmosphere was very friendly and the occasion was a great success for everyone. Highly recommended

Came for Lunch with my Mum today. Was very very disappointed!! We ordered Wild Creamy Mushrooms as a small plate ( not a small plate the portion was huge) The sauce was thin and bland and made the toasted bread that came with it turn into mush. Garlic King Prawns were over cooked and hard, didn’t eat them. Cheese croquettes that weren’t cheesy, pretty much just lumpy mash deep fried, again these were not eaten. I made a comment as the food was being served to us in regards to the portions being large when they were described as small plates as i wouldn’t have ordered as much as we did and he thought it was acceptable to say ‘ Yeah well you ordered it all ‘ then just walked away. Overall we felt it was a waste of money and won’t be returning for Food again. Shame as the actual pub itself is beautiful and has a really lovely outside space.

Lovely country pub within walking distance for us . Been going to this pub for over 20 years just lately I’ve noticed how rundown it’s looking . The outside area definitely needs a makeover, the rubbish in the corner outside just needs to be moved. It looks awful . The seating areas need a rethink Also the gazebo is very tatty. Inside, it’s extremely dirty and dusty the toilets alone must have two years of dust on the doors / cubicles . We call for a drink every now and again, but I definitely wouldn’t eat here . The bar staff could also do with a bit of training as a few of them are really rude . Such a shame because it’s a beautiful location and a lovely old pub .

A few things need addressing here. Firstly the pieces of parquet flooring are missing as you enter the bar which is shoddy and a potential trip hazard. Also the staff seem to have a depressed look about them (it's a pub not an abattoir) finally, is it really good business to have your unrinals overflowing with customers piss. I won't be returning.

Beautiful looking pub on the outside and I’m sure the outdoor space for eating on a nice day would be lovely. However walked in and to find it full of dogs and the smell of dogs overpowering was unpleasant. The food was over cooked dry and well below par! Interior of pub in desperate need of redecoration and the staff looked scruffy. Plus on top of everything else the food took forever to come. So much potential wasted!!! Will NOT be going again!!

Very good very covid safe .excellent service, no problems at all . Up date this year, good friendly staff and prompt service, well kept beer.,we only had chip cobs to eat after our walk and really enjoyed it 😀

Disappointed, as its got a good reputation. Tiny bar, at least 10 people waiting. Limited staff, very busy, not a comfortable environment at all.

Large outside area, reasonable prices, real chips! Very busy at the small bar Saturday lunchtime, but only to be expected on a sunny day. Christmas menu now available with straightforward 2 or 3 course options. Been back several times, always with the same friendly reception and good quality food and beer

After ordering my choice, I was very disappointed with the quality of the food, it hardly had any flavour, the skin on fries was black and looked like they had been dipped in tar. The size of the portion wouldn't have satisfied a child and not value for money for the price that was paid.

Lovely pub, but the young lad behind the bar was really rude, the food was absolutely terrible, granted its pub food, also my daughter struggled to change our grandson in the toilets and was made to feel very uncomfortable. I don't normally leave bad reviews but I feel like we were made to feel very unwelcome

After seeing the specials board and noting curry was on the menu our party of 6 adults decided to all order it, what a disappointment. The curries themselves were nice tasting, although a bit runny but the rice was terrible and had to be returned, it was all in one clump and hard for one diner and the others weren't that brilliant either. One of our party gave the waitress her rice and was told some new rice would be given to her. It arrived 10 minutes later so by this time she had nearly finished the rest of her meal. After we had finished eating the table was cleared but 2 lots of plates were still left on the table and were still there once we left. The pub was not busy (although that should not be an excuse anyway), we were given 20% off the total bill, although a gesture we would have sooner had a nice meal and paid full price. We wanted to support a local business but unfortunately will not be returning for food, what a shame
