Booked for late Birthday meal but felt quite disappointed with the meal.We had a 3 course starter,main,desert but though it advertised that it had a new chef and menu it could have been better.The starter was OK then we had the main meal sadly it came out luke warm had to be heated up in a microwave the food was definitely not homemade just standard.We had a roast and the you can tell some of it was prefrozen such as the Yorkshire puddings and roast potatoes,meat was OK but nothing special.Desert was disappointing only option for me was ice cream because ran out of the others.The staff did do they best to accommodate our complaints but i don't think this be on a returning visit list especially as i felt the pub had zero atmosphere.

As a disabled patron ordering a carvery for delivery the staff were extremely helpful - they were very kind and patient after 3 calls using a relay service for help and information Accommodating & flexible - nothing was too much trouble and the food was amazing - separate pots were provided for apple sauce, gravy and cheese sauce for the cauliflower After feeling quite sorry for one's self after an unfortunate weekend of illness, the food, service and helpfulness of staff meant the world and helped the weekend end on a positive note - many thanks and 2ould recommend to anyone

Cooked to perfection Sunday roast at the Horse and Groom is worth every penny and beautifully presented. Our server, Sandy couldn't have been more friendly and attentive. Five stars from five happy people xxx

Staying close by we were looking for a nice pub food dinner - for a Saturday night it wasn't busy and our table was nicely presented. The food was well priced, the menu was not extensive but just what we wanted. The food was great but what made our night was our host Sandy - she made us so welcome and we felt like locals, she made sure we had everything we needed and nothing was too much trouble.

Most pubs are empty or just a bit of a disappointment these days. Not their fault, we should all drink in pubs a lot more. The Horse always has a couple of chatty afternooners and all the staff are lovely so it's retaining the proper pub feel of before the last few years. I ordered a double burger, bacon and cheese (1 beef, 1 chicken burger) and it would have fed a family. Delicious. Decent chips too and for around a tenner. Awful shots and so on if you like the sort of thing, the guiness pint is perfect.

Was hanging this morning and went in for a bite to eat. £5 for buffalo chicken chips absolutely stunning! Great service, great atmosphere overall great place!

Popped in on the off chance for lunch, such friendly welcome, lovely girl behind the bar. We ordered food which came out quickly, it was hot, fresh and delicious. Would defiantly come back and recommend.

Stopped in on our drive for a Sunday carvery. £10.95 for adult £7.95 children. Ordered at the bar. It was not a carvery where you walk up and serve yourself vegetables. A young lady bought our plate to us with the meat 3 small roast potatoes a yorkshire pudding (not home made) and something else on the plate I thought it was a granola but no it was the stuffing. The same young lady bought out dishes if veg (fresh cauliflower: sweetcorn: green beans (frozen) very stringy:: leeks in a cream sauce: one roast parsnip.) Staff very friendly and young lady serving us coulsnt so enough. We did ask for some more roast potatoes and this was immediately sorted out with no hassles. It will not be a place we would revisit. Staff wonderful but afraid dinner was not the best. I have been told the service equipment to keep veg in when a carvery has broken down. So hopefully Sunday lunch will improve when fixed .

This pub would be a lot better if they stocked more popular drinks and could deliver food on menu. However the food that we had was good . Can’t say the same about housekeeping as overflowing ashtray , very dirty table , bins overflowing and barmen very busy leaning on bar on mobile . All while bar was empty

First of all they didn’t have the drink we wanted so we settled for something else. . We wanted to eat so decided on Brie and bacon roll. They didn’t have any Brie! Barman was pretty disinterested and not helpful. Food was pretty good to be fair. We ate in the garden and the ashtrays on the tables were full to brimming …… as was the bin in the ladies toilet - full of empty toilet rolls and dirty tissues.

A very friendly pub always fairly busy and a good fun atmosphere. I ordered burger and chips and always a decent size portion and a succulent burger and crispy chips. My husband had the vegetarian equivalent and he was very happy with his meal too.

We've driven past this city pub many, many times and never visited. It looks small from the front but this is deceptive, it is long and thin with the front areas dedicated to drinkers and pub games and a quiet seating and eating area to the rear along with a pleasant beer garden.

After so many bad experiences at another local hostelry, which rumour has it is being ‘rebranded’, perhaps the people involved would like to come here for a few tips! My niece and I on our usual mid week mid catch up, wanting just that, with no cooking involved, were delighted to have walked out from one bad experience into an excellent one. The staff are welcoming, friendly, helpful and efficient..always. The food on the pub grub 2 for £10 menu, excellent. Real food, clearly cooked by a real cook and not microwaved pinged! Great stuff all round thank you.

There where 9 of us for a family celebration. Carvery was excellent. As a chef myself I know all the short cuts but all I could see was fresh vegetables and well cooked meat. The veggie options went down well. Lovely atmosphere.

We had friends unexpectedly visit us mid week and wanted dinner together somewhere we could have a good meal and catch up. We live nearer to a few pubs that do 'upmarket' menus, with upmarket prices that are fine if you want to do something a little bit special but all in all felt that the H&G; would be more suitable for us this time. So glad we did.

This is a typical English pub. It is obviously frequented by many locals but we felt welcome.

Principalmente porque es nuestro local, pero también porque han trabajado muy duro para ofrecer un buen pub que anteriormente estaba un poco cansado. Visitamos aquí con dos de nuestros hijos un domingo para probar el asador. La carne que ofrecían era de muy buena calidad y la selección de platos vegetarianos era excelente, con mucha variedad. Debo admitir que visitamos el asador unos cuantos domingos antes, pero llegamos tarde, así que aunque estaba delicioso, estaba un poco seco. Sin embargo, nuestra experiencia reciente de la comida fue mucho mejor! Muy contentos de que volvamos a visitar! Lo único que lo decepcionó fue el factor desconocido de cuándo obtendríamos un asiento. Al llegar pudimos ver que estaba ocupado, pero cuando se le preguntó qué esperar, el camarero dijo que sería una espera muy larga. Acordamos esperar y mientras esperaba podía ver que la espera no sería larga, así que nos sentamos y disfrutamos de una bebida. Este es el mejor asador que he tenido durante mucho tiempo. Tuve la carne que estaba perfectamente preparada, para nada masticable. Once again. What lovely, classic pub food. We've almost given up weekday cooking altogether, our local pub is so good AND so ridiculously affordable. Unbelievably, i heard a grumble from a table nearby who obviously expect somewhere between Hungry Horse portions and silver service with personal waiting staff for their 2 for 10 quid menu. Ignore them team. Thanks for doing the cooking again tonight. I wish I could cook a steak dinner like that for under 30 quid, let alone under a tenner.

The Horse and Groom is at the top of our road and we now have a refurbished local with new management that we can't get enough of. Friendly, hard working new team with ridiculously good value pub grub. We have been in with our dog, our daughter or just with the Sunday papers. I reckon we have eaten there at least twice or three times a week since it's re-opened, visiting even more just for drinks. It's consistently had a happy atmosphere and is so affordable, we can rarely be bothered to cook anymore! Apart from helping me put on a few more post Christmas pounds than i anticipated, i can't praise the new team enough. A proper pub. Tickled pink to have a local that's getting it right and is deservedly getting very busy.

Very nice staff, the carvery was good. Roast potatoes were upper class, crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. Meat very tender. The only thing that let it down was the gravy. Very bland.

5 star customer service all the way. Barmaids and waitress’ were absolutely amazing! So chatty and friendly, the chef was also incredibly friendly and accommodating to our needs as a group. Fantastic choices of alcohol that doesn’t cost the earth. The lunch we had was delicious and was priced appropriately. I would highly recommend this little pub. Keep up the great work guys!

We stopped for lunch. Since the refurb this pub is much improved. We just had a snack but it was very good and inexpensive. The staff made us very welcome and even brought some water for the dogs without being asked. The real ale is well kept as well,an excellent pint. Will definitely be back.

i had my niece and her hubby over from Canada on holiday and took them to the horse and groom on two different Tuesdays with ten other family memembers and we had a great night food was excellent and sweets were to die for my niecs hubby was so surprised by the welcome he had he wanted to take the pub and all in it back to Canada with him so a big thank you to rob and the rest of your staff for looking after us all.xxx

We go out to this pub as a group of girls/work colleagues, so it's ok for what we want. They offer specials and you get a good plate full of food, nice not anything special though staff are very friendly on the plus.

Were fortunate to have just squeezed onto the booking list for a table of three today.There is a car park in a not easy to park district and whilst it is not huge, we did get in. The Landlord and his staff were friendly and welcoming and the service was good throughout. There was a choice of four roasts, a selection of vegetables and all looked excellent. The food was basic but really good quality and lots of it - just what you would hope from a carvery. With soft drinks our bill was just over £30 and was good value for money. The interior décor was a little faded in places and it is not situated in the most attractive area of this beautiful City, but overall I can recommend this pub restaurant with a winning attitude on the Wilton Road at the entrance to Salisbury.

We went for a nice drink in the beautiful beer garden whilst waiting for the restaurant to open.The drink in this pub are great as there's a wide range to suit everyone s needs we then order are food which I had a double mix grill which was out of this world the meat was cooked to perfection my partner had the trio of fish cake that looked amazing and she really enjoyed this meal we will definitely go back for food as we have a dog and this pub is dog friendly as the landlord has two lovely labs I would k just like to thank Rob the landlord for a great afternoon everything was amazing

We stopped here travelling through Salisbury and was pleased to see two elderly Labradors living there we having a dog also, went in for a steak one Saturday evening in April my steak rib eye was full of sinews not only in the middle but all around the edge it was totallyl unacceptable was offered another but put off completely by so much. The carpet was filthy very old the knives and forks dirty , the chairs were also unclean the sachets of prepared sauces were in a dirty basket . Loud popular music blaring out and the clientele were swearing with four letter words continually not caring about any ladies entering their premises. I understand that the Landlord should have the authority to stop this behaviour. This should be closed down refurbished and thoroughly cleaned before anyone should be allowed to eat their again. Sad as this could be a lovely pub restaurant perhaps injection of cash is needed.

I have recently moved to the area and like to frequent a public house now and again! I would like to say that The Horse and Groom pub is a great place. Not only is the food good but the staff are friendly and welcoming. The landlord is a great bloke and the people who get in there are so nice. I would like to thank Becks and Laura and Emily who are lovely! You have to try Brians Carvery and the Burgers are Gorgeous. Ask my son's! Strongly recommend this place.

Please could you put your sachets of sauces in a clean baskets, everything in this pub was grubby, it could be such a nice pub, with the brambles cleared out of the pub garden and a bit of a clean up The bar maid wad friendly.

I have visited the establishment on several occasions and found the staff to be very efficient, the beer is well kept and the food excellent although the landlords sense of humour is somewhat diverse and takes a little getting used to (I'm sure he's a nice chap really).

Possibly the best Sunday Roast around... Traditional home cooked roast rare to come by these days crunchy roasties suculate meat and possibly the best gravy around and never fails to disappoint its bloody lovely. I would recommend booking as it's know secret how lovely this roast is and it's always busy.

A really good home cooked Sunday lunch in a very relaxed atmosphere, landlord is very welcoming and cheerful and staff are very pleasant too, great selection of meats and veg ( just like your mother used to make) , We have never booked so would be prepared to wait but have always received quick service. Would definitely recommend this place great value for money.

the pub was empty on our arrival not a good sign for a Saturday night ! on ordering a bottled beer I had to ask for a glass ! a table had been reserved for a Birthday party, 11 covers not the most taxing night for any chef as that was all the custom in the pub however one missed starter after a 30 minute wait set the scene for a disappointing meal experience the mains then took a similar length of time to materialise the first being delivered some ten minutes before the rest appeared from the kitchen most were overcooked and tepid the kitchen even managed to get a plough mans wrong! one of our party found part of a cleaning cloth in their meal! I would recommend avoiding this place if you don't like being sworn at if you complain I feel sorry for the waiting staff who did nothing but apologise for the cooks errors, omissions and foul additions

We go to this little pub often for family meals, and normally we have a good time, we love the relaxed feel and friendly staff and great food value for money. The above is why I picked the horse and groom to celebrate my 30th birthday with my family. We booked a table for 12 people for the 2nd nov @7pm, 3 weeks in advance, plenty of notice. Nice warm welcome from the bar staff and boss topped up my drink! 8 of us ordered starters, (mains were ordered at same time)we got 7 starters, waitress offered to make up another but my M guest declined. Starters weren't best presented but were very tasty! Once finished starters & plates were cleared. We waited about 30/45 mins for our mains to arrive. One waitress served our mains, she apologised for the wait which was good, but sadly some of the meals were cold by the time we got them, and some of the steaks were over done. tho an offer again was made to replace the cold ones by the waitress, we were to hungry to wait any longer. One of my guests found a long peace of string in her dinner, which we gave to he boss, who informed us it was part of a dish cloth (information we didn't really what to know) there was no sorry, but a replacement meal was offered, which my D guest accepted. Once most of us finished our mains D received theirs, again the waitress was very sorry, and we were ok and understanding that things happen. Then the boss/landlord came over and asked us "why the f*^k were the waitress saying sorry when they have nothing tobe sorry for?" (his words) we were all a little surprised the he had just sworn as well as being confused about his question, and some of my guests may have been alittle sarcastic with there replays, but it was clear that this boss/landlord had been drinking. And he asked us for our feedback and what had gone wrong, which when I replied he seamed to argue with my guests and I who had all experienced the same. He tired to offer us discount on our next meal, but my guests weren't all local and so that didn't really work. In the end my dad asked for a meal discount, which we got £50 off our food bill which didn't come easy. Tbh, the waitress was doing a excellent job and doing her best, showing she cared, even tho things weren't in our favour, she more than likely would have saved the night if her boss/landlord hadn't come over swearing, and cursing his staff, telling us how amazing the food is and arguing about our comments even tho he asked for the feedback. They weren't even busy, there was two tables of 2 and one table of 4 when we arrived at 7, no more customers arrived to eat after. Really disappointing!

Having dined at The Horse & Groom several times recently, I can honestly say that this has to be the best eatery in the area. The quality of food and service is second to none and the prices are very good, always a warm welcome from the staff and the Landlord is extremely pleasant and hands on, very accommodating.I have taken family and clients here and have not been disappointed, this is now my firm favourite in place to eat in Salisbury.The restaurant is lovely and I think it has been recently refurbished. The Sunday Calvary is something not to be missed, and as another reviewer mentioned Real Roast Potatoes! a real rarity these days and yes they really are amazing.I have eaten at lots of restaurants/Pubs In Salisbury and can sincerely say this is the best by far!

Passed this pub by accident, and stopped. OMGggggggggggg, the food was so lovely. We had Sunday lunch and there were realllllllllllllll roast potatoes with your Sunday lunch Carvery. The chef gave us loads of meats and we could serve ourselves to vegetables and potatoes :) Really, a lovely, lovely meal. My only down side as 2 large dogs, albeit old and well behaved, wandering around.

We drive through Salisbury twice a year to get to Centerparcs and the Horse and Groom is situated right on our route. The food is always great and reasonablly priced and they always have a great choice of specials in addition to the large menu. Considering there are usually about 10 adults and 2 children they are always able to serve us quickly, usually without prior booking! The decor is slightly tired and outdated but it does have that old village pub feel.
