Hoppers Marylebone in City of London, Westminster

Service was friendly and good, plus we weren’t hurried out after paying the bill. A carafe of water was brought without us aksing. We only had 1 curry dish (or kari) and 1 dosa each, plus 1 small chutney (a couple of spoonfuls) and a mid- range wine. The bill was £97, which was very expensive for what we had. The wine was very over-priced. Even discounting the wine, the food was over-priced because the portions are small. £5.50 for a hopper! I wasn’t expecting curry house prices and I’m no stranger to London’s more expensive Asian restaurants. Sadly, I think you can eat and drink better elsewhere for these prices. Hoppers sent me a promo/thank you email the next day and I provided the same feedback to them directly. No reply yet.

We had the £42 per person tester menu. Superb. Faultless. Staff wonderful and friendly. Atmosphere vibrant and lively. Nothing to add other than go!!!

We were recommended this restaurant by a friend who lived in London so booked a table in advance of our visit. Having never tried Sri Lankan food, we were excited to go. On arrival we were impressed by the decor and interior. The restaurant was busy with other diners, which is a good sign too. We ordered a Kari each and some rice. The mains came out very quickly, which we found a bit bizarre and made our dining experience short. The food portions were small compared to back home but that seems to be London. The food was very tasty, would just have liked some more! It was my birthday, which was included in our booking request and the restaurant acknowledged it with a cake and card. This was really special and I would like to express my gratitude for that gesture.

Really enjoyed our first visit. We loved sitting in the semi private vault and trying the delicious food from the feast menu.

Last night we dined at the Marylebone restaurant. I’d booked for 9pm but the head waiter managed to squeeze us in earlier. The food was delicious. Unfortunately one of the young staff put a hot dish down too near my plate and the cutlery went flying including onto my clothes and staining jumper and jeans. I asked for a damp cloth to immediately wipe the grease off the clothes. She didnt seem to understand and bought me a little pack meant for wiping hands after a meal. We also had to ask for more cutlery. The rest of the staff were great but under pressure as the restaurant was very busy. I didnt see the point in making any more complaints as the stains had dried. There is no way of contacting the restaurant. Their contact details are incorrect.

The food was really nice. Not your usual Indian and the signature hoppers are really delicious despite their rather bland appearance. It’s also really good value for the quality of food. I felt the service let it down a little. After being seated we were left for quite some time before our drinks orders were taken and it’s only a small restaurant so no excuse really. The service was by no means poor, but could be improved. A nice experience overall but a little more attentiveness would have pushed my rating up. Worth a visit though.

A brilliant place for a solo lunch. Hoppers is fab. Great service, an amazing masala dosa and a place where a single diner doesn't feel awkward. I do wish the coconut chutneys were included, it seems a bit mean to charge separately for a few spoons of something that is made in bulk.... Oh, and PLEASE offer Masala tea without sugar in it! Popped in for a quick meal as we were going on to the cinema. The restaurant was busy but they said they could squeeze us in if we could let them have the table back in time for a later reservation. This suited us perfectly as we knew we would be served quickly. Our friendly server recommended what to order - it was all delicious and very reasonably priced. We sat downstairs which felt less busy. Will definitely return for a more leisurely meal in the future.

Today was a day filled with joy, laughter, and the most amazing flavors that took us on a culinary journey to Sri Lanka, right in the heart of London. My wife, our two boys, and I decided to explore Hoppers in Saint Christopher's Place, a decision that turned out to be spectacular. From the moment we stepped into the restaurant, the aromas of spices and herbs promised a delightful experience. The staff welcomed us warmly, making us feel like family. We shared a variety of dishes, each a masterpiece of taste and presentation. The boys were adventurous in their selections, trying new flavors with excitement, and my wife's eyes lit up with every bite. The highlight of our meal was a Lamb Kothu Roti for my wife , masala dosa for me , paratha and chicken bites for Oliver and lamb curry with rice for Jonathan with Deviled paneer and squid . It was not just the food that made our day special, but the laughter and stories we shared around the table. These are the moments that we cherish, the simple pleasures of being together as a family. As we left the restaurant, walking back to our car in Central London, we all agreed that this was not just a meal, but an experience we would remember for years to come. Hoppers didn't just serve us food; they served us memories, wrapped in the warm embrace of family and the rich tapestry of Sri Lankan cuisine.

We went as a family and friends group of 9 people, and had a wonderful experience. While I did not personally organise this meal, I observed that the staff had been in communication with the member of our group who was the organiser beforehand. Special thanks to them for ensuring that some dishes be made with a lower spice level, to accommodate the tolerance of some of our guests. The drinks menu had some novel selections, such as guava lassi and wattalapam lassi. The latter was a delightful coconut-based still drink with just the right amount of nutmeg and other spices. The food was gorgeous; special mention goes to the masala dosa (a classic executed perfectly), breadfruit curry, chilli paneer and aubergine curry. We were seated in a cosy alcove in the basement, and we liked the privacy it offered. The food was reasonably priced. We would dine here again!

We really could not fault our experience at this restaurant. The staff were very chatty and helpful. Atmospheric relaxing and comfortable space in which we enjoyed every morsel of our taster menu food. Will certainly return.

The food was fantastic, The quality & freshness 10 out of 10. Our 4-star rating had two reasons; first, the lighting was too dim for dining in the evening, and we could hardly see the food! Second, the payment options were a bit awkward and unnecessarily complicated. We were given a QR code at first which we were not so keen on, then when we asked to split the bill in two unequal halves (£30 & £50) we were told that the POS machine did not allow it!! I mean, really?

I happened to go to Hoppers in Marylebone. As I was solo, the host (baldy Sri-lankan guy) mentioned there are no tables outside as all tables have been booked- though all the tables were unoccupied. He said try after 30 min. When I came back after 30 min- he again mentioned that none of the table is available- though 90% were unoccupied. I felt he was trying to avoid giving a table to me. After sometime- I got a table . I was so turned off by his rude behavior but I still ordered a drink and food. I would rate good just ok and cocktail horrible. I have been to other hoppers- they were good- but the host completely turned me off by his rudeness.

A group of 8 of us ate here. Pleasantly surprised by how tasty the food was. We had a veggie set menu and the paneer and jackfruit were particularly good. A few less memorable dishes. Nice cocktails but small I'm portion. The bill came to more than we expected but can't fault the taste of the food.

Definitely worth booking ahead as the place was mobbed when we got there. No hanging about, we were shown straight to our table. Staff are good and attentive. First visit and I liked the food, only issue is that the portions are a wee bit on the small side. The only thing to let the place down was the toilets. Went downstairs to use them and no hanging about as they're unisex cubicles but the one I used had the seat hanging off. As a male I didn't require the seat but I still had to stand it up to be able to use it which isn't a particularly great experience. I'm surprised this wasn't either fixed or taken out of service until it was. Small et down for a great place.

I believe the first time I have eaten true Sri Lankan cuisine. I enjoyed the food, look forward to learning more next round. Feel safe saying this must be very authentic and worth your time.
