Honiton Dairy Ice Cream Shop in East Devon

You know this place doesn't exist any more, right? It is now a fish and chip shop. Apparently it is good, but it is no longer a dairy , and does not serve ice cream home made on the premises any more- just so you know!

so many choices.....having worked for both large and small ice cream producers, some with fancy stuff like water buffalo milk, i can happily say hands down this beats them all. i have even had the privilege of meeting Mr Harris and handing him his churn of freshly made clotted cream. i would say if it works and keeps being the choice of many people it will be around for a lot longer and is always a welcome treat whenever passing

The range of flavours and their depth and subtlety are a revelation in this ice cream shop in the heart of Honiton. I'd recommend the stem-ginger flavour on a waffle cone. My wife tried the rum and raisin and loved it. The ice cream was, well, wonderfully creamy and thoroughly recommended.

Fabulous I cream with so much choice. We spent a week in Honiton and visited here every day. Lemon meringue flavour was wonderful.

Revive those childhood memories, support this local business and enjoy a really good treat. The present owner took over from his mother in 1968, think what you have been doing since 1968! Oh, and his mother opened the shop in 1935. We need to support Artisan traders if we want interesting high streets, and when there is such an indulgent benefit what is not to enjoy.

Great choice of flavours of ice cream and selection of tub sizes and cones. Recommend the strawberry flavour. Good portions and good price. Locally made. Would recommend.

I celebrated passing my GCSEs with a trip here from Exeter... I celebrated passing my A- Levels with a trip here from Exeter... I've been coming here for years and the quality has never shifted. It's smooth and creamy and full of flavour! I decided to do a bit of an ice-cream crawl on Tuesady and had to come back here... Wonderful ice-cream... bit of a shame about the grumpy servers though... a bit off-putting but I suppose you really only go for the quality! Top Tip: Coffee icecream from here is delicious and my favourite flavour to order.

We have made every excuse to 'pass by' and this trip was no exception. During our few days away I sampled a few chocolate ice creams and this was THE creamiest, and chocolatest of them all. The honeycomb had real honeycomb. Homemade ice cream at its best.

I love ice cream, and I've travelled extensively to try it. I am seriously considering a book of an ice cream tour of Europe with the best ice cream shops. The Honiton Dairy Ice Cream shop is well worth a drive to. Great flavours, good portions all made on the premises and an authenticity missing in so many places. I live a 30 minute drive away and I am often there. We are currently in covid 19 lockdown and I am missing it more than anything right now.

Everybody talks about this ice cream shop, but is not so good, long queue and expensive. Ser ice is poor. I wouldn't recommend this place.

Over 40 choices of flavours available to choose from. The shop is very easy to find on the high street. A must visit if your in the Honiton area when holidaying in Devon. The shop accepts cash only.

Excellent ice cream, lots of choice,some unusual flavours like chocolate orange and generous helpings. Great stop over on a journey to Cornwall. Friendly service and outside seating make this a very enjoyable e experience.

went here on Sunday , there was no menu i could look at, as i have bad eye sight. i felt rushed. and the prices were quite high.the 1 scoop tub was tiny .and not creamy, as im in the heart of clotted cream. my experience was woeful. grumpy old bald man served me. i think he should try to be more relaxed. i recommend going to asda and get a kellys icecream tub.

So I have lived in Honiton for 22 years .i took my granddaughter to the ice cream shop and could not bet it when I saw it was was trip advisory recommended so I had to leave a review.if you ever visit my home town and you don’t pop in to Honiton dairy for a ice cream you are missing out.its like Willy Wonka‘s ice cream shop.10 out of 10 believe my you missed out if you don’t pop in .thanks for making the best ice cream .and right on my door step cheers Steve

Every bit as good as (if not better than) the Italian gelato we had in Sorrento last year. First visited on Saturday and went back mid week, sampling five flavours, all of which tasted great. Very pleased too to see it was still serving at times that many other cafes and shops had closed for the day. Well worth going out of your way for a visit.

My friend and I went for a walk along the High Street in Honiton Devon. We came across the Ice cream shop and decided to have a look. We were amazed by all the different flavours available.Between us we tried the Cherry with kirshe, pistachio and Cherry Bakewell.The ice cream was amazing it tasted so good.There were chairs set up outside the front of the shop so we sat down to enjoy our treat. Whilst we sat there we were amazed by how many people pulled up in their cars , parked and went in to get some ice cream. They either sat on the seats or back in their cars to enjoy their purchase. A very popular shop and I can totally see why.The gentleman in the shop said it had been a quiet day but had picked up later on as the weather improved. He makes all the ice cream on the premises and is the only place to sell his ice-cream.If you are in the area pop in and have a real treat. Help to keep this independent, family run business fight the battle of the struggling high street trade.

As an ice cream “connoisseur” I have traveled widely both in the UK, America and Europe.... but the taste and flavours at Honiton Dairy are by far the best I have tasted. Very highly recommended 💜

Love this ice cream! Tried most of the flavours and they were all better versions of any other ice cream claiming the flavours. The tubs to bring home and put in the freezer are brilliant!! And keep really well worth a visit!!

The ice cream from here is incredible. So many flavours to choose from, and really good quality! So much so, we now make sure we make a trip to Honiton whenever we are "passing" (ie can somehow make our route go via Honiton!) Sadly, although very understandably, we discovered they are shut in November. Looking forwards to next summer already!!!

Recommended to me this ice cream shop, tried to engage with proprietor about the wide choice available, it is what you see was his reply. Ok then I'll have a 99' with a flake the ice cream was good and flavoursome cone fresh chocolate also. A little pricy considering the portion size. Flavour saved the day!!

This place feels like it is on the wane, and lacks the 'fun atmosphere' one associates with a Gelateria. I suspect this may be because of the popularity of the exceptionally good Otter Vally Ice Cream place just up the road, which serves truly wonderful flavours. Whilst the product here is good, and would be considered better than average in most places, this is Devon, and expectations for Ice Cream are very high! The (lack of) Clotted Cream situation, highlighted in other reviews, is an own goal that exemplifies the lack of enterprise here, in a competitive market.

Made a special detour to call in to this ice cream shop on the way back home from Devon to enjoy my last ‘fix’ of clotted cream with ice cream & to buy some to take away.

The honiton dairy has a great selection of ice cream, it's great quality . We didn't mind paying a little extra knowing that they're all made on the premises.

An easily missed place serving fabulous homemade ice cream with the option of clotted cream and flake added just to boost the calorific count! Once tried you'll be smitten, it wouldn't surprise me to find people that have moved to Honiton because of this place...

A wide selection of beautiful ice creams available with extras (clotted cream highly recommended) make this an essential stop when visiting or passing through this part of the world. Sometimes difficult to park nearby but worth taking the time and trouble to visit.

Trust the flavours stated. They will blow your mind! Lovely town with quirky turns here and there. Strolled across the ice cream shop on the way back to the car. Went in simply because everyone else had an ice cream.

We stayed neared Honiton and visited this ice cream shop a few times during our stay. The ice cream is delicious, with a great variety of flavours. Will definitely be visiting again.

This place makes their own, extremely delicious icecream, and have a fantastic variety of flavours, an unbelievable wide choice. I had stem ginger, my absolute favourite, and it was the best I've ever had, lovely and gingery. Real quality. Highly recommended.

This place is a “must visit” in Honiton. The ice cream is fantastic and we thoroughly recommend both the salted caramel and the chocolate orange. Chunky bits of dark chocolate rippling through the latter. Fresh cones and friendly service!! Excellent value

No longer has clotted cream or clotted cream ice cream in spite of saying it does all over the shop. Another childhood memory gone.

Amazing home made ice cream. So many flavors smooth and creamy choice of cones or tubs. Try a double Rhubarb and natural Devon vanilla. Wow. My favorite among so many The Salted Caramel.

This was the best ice-cream I have ever tasted & was definitely worth queueing for. There were many flavours to choose from which are all made by the shop owner. Delicious!

If you have the slightest interest in Ice Cream this is a compulsory stop - all of the Ice Cream is hand made with real cream. There is an incredible range of flavours that you will not see anywhere else, (personal favourite is Black Cherry Kirsch), and if you are feeling indulgent it can be topped with a fudge stick & clotted cream.

We have a good reason to be in Honiton fairly regularly to visit family which is excellent news when the ice cream shop is open. All the flavours (over 40 I think) are made on the premises and are absolutely delicious (although I have to admit that I haven’t tried the bubblegum flavour!). Portions are generous and the young staff are very helpful.

OMG what an amazing array of colours and choice of icecream. Had Pistachio and salted caramel which was just yummy. I recommend this place to anybody who loves icecream. Its the closest ive had to Italian icecream!

Beautiful homemade ice creams in a huge range of flavours. Very simple shop where the ice cream is all. The double scoop waffles are huge and amazing value, and delicious. What a gem ...... definitely going back for an ice cream fix.

Paramos un par de veces en las últimas semanas. No gusta o "artesanos" helado bien hecho. Más de 40 sabores disponibles, el único problema que tendrás es escoger! Puedo recomendar el melocotón Melba y frambuesa ripple, pero todos son encantadores. Estas son las porciones de devon así en el lado generoso. Tuve 1 cucharada en un cono y que fue mucho. La tienda sólo está abierta de abril a octubre.

Unas cuantas veces hemos estado allí y la calidad de los helados haría cualquier fabricantes de helado italiano pagará su respeto. Cuando uno necesita frenar y un sabor de helado natural real cuidados, confía en nosotros, este es el lugar! Las grandes empresas no pueden hacer estos!

A wide range of ice creams, including some unusual flavours. There are seats outside but no tables and my three-year-old granddaughter had difficulty balancing and eating her tub without getting it down her dress.

Si pasas por Honiton, aparca el coche y tómate un helado aquí, aunque esté lloviendo. Buenísimo! Por supuesto la calidad tiene su precio. De paso puedes dar un paseo por este típico pueblo inglés.

The ice creams here are really creamy and there is a huge choice, something to suit everyone. If you don't like really creamy ices there is a choice of sorbets too

Spoilt for choice with the amount of flavours on offer here. I went for a double tub of mars delight and black cherry, It was £4 but you definitely get your money's worth and they were very big tubs! Very creamy and greatly enjoyed!

So it just used to be called Honiton Dairy but to be fair everyone called it the ice cream shop because if you're close enough to visit why go elsewhere? Bot the block and the soft ice cream is made on site and there's plenty of cone choices. My family's from "up country" and don't visit that often but a trip here is an absolute must each time they're down.

If you are on the way to the south west, Honiton is worth a stop simple to try one o the vast selection of flavours available. Okay so it is £2.50 of basic cone but they do not sell you short on the amount of ice cream delivered. They only draw back is parking, which is available in main street but if you are not lucky with this only a short work from car parks and worth the effort.

Took the kids here today for an ice cream as we visited my mum who lives in honiton, we all loved it! Such gorgeous flavours, my eldest had kit Kat flavour who loved it, my daughter had white chocolate with Maltesers in it and she loved it, the wife had Turkish delight and said it was the best she had ever had, and I had a raspberry ripple and loved it after always trying then and being disappointed this one from here was amazing! You could fully taste the raspberry sauce coming thru the ice cream! Highly recommend!!!!

We visited here yesterday after recommendation, the gentleman behind the counter couldn't even manage a smile! Seriously some customer service would be nice! The flavours were ok, but expensive for what you get! We asked what he recommended and he just said 'personal choice really' not very helpful. Would I visit again? No I wouldn't

What a choice! From traditional vanilla chocolate or strawberry to child friendly bubblegum to twix or bakewell tart. Go on you know you want a stick of fudge or a flake on the top...live a little!!

We go for an ice cream now and again. The selection is absolutely amazing.All made on the premises. I did not count the different flavours but there must have been in excess of eighty (80). Do not visit too often you will get hooked

Well worth a visit... I'm a true ice cream lover, and this place certainly ticks all the boxes. It's definitely one of the best ice creams I have had in the UK, and would certainly be in competition with an Italian gelato!

Had a very large but reasonably priced ice cream. I had strawberry cheesecake and mint choc chip and my partner had snickers and salted caramel. Can honestly say it was the best ice cream i have ever had.

Well if you're in honiton ,you really should stop here and chose one or more of the delicious flavors of ice cream. They are home made and I will definitely return another day.

Popped in and was amazed at the selection available, our purchase did not disappoint simply delicious and definitely go again and recommend anybody else to try it.

Drove here yesterday from mid Devon with friends who had heard about the ice cream shop. Unfortunately the shop is shut, despite saying open until end of October on the website. Very disappointing and limited choice for homemade ice cream in the rest of the town, in fact we couldn't find any!

This is an excellent ice-cream shop in a very convenient and tempting situation! There is a very wide choice of flavours and it is always a pleasure to take visiting friends and relations here. They are always delighted!

Called in here on a wet and miserable day but we were cheered up with a couple of cones of excellent ice cream. This is just a no nonsense straight forward ice cream parlour without any frills. There is basic seating which we expect is placed outside in fine weather. It was difficult to choose from the wide variety as they all look tempting, but eventually settled on the vanilla which did not disappoint. Overall it is as expected from an ice cream parlour, but the customer service skills from the serving chap could be better, however if you like ice cream then this is not to be missed.

I go to Italy every year on holiday, but I have to say for taste and flavour you can not beat Honiton Dairy, anywhere for Ice-Cream, it's absolutely Icetastic, Don't take my words go try it.

Husband and I treated our daughter to an ice cream, which was quite tasty, with a good range of flavours, but although I tried to be friendly with the gentleman serving he was very surly We have vowed not to buy ice cream from him again

Well what can I say. They were cold, You could have then single or double, in cones or waffles, with or without chocolate tops, and in tubs. The young lady behind the counter was really lovely, and patient. She had to be because there are LOADS and LOADS to chose from. Just enjoy. They were delicious.

We always make a point of visiting The Honiton Dairy when we are visiting family locally. The variety of icecream flavours is staggering and being able to have a dollop of clotted cream on top is always an added bonus! the icecream is rather pricy per scoop, as we are a family of icecream lovers and can never settle on just one flavour to try so a visit here generally costs £20 for 4 double scoop tubs!!). That said, you do get what you pay for and the quality is always good. the only thing that reduces this from a 5* review is that out of all the times we have been in, nobody ever seems very happy behind the counter! An icecream shop is my idea of heaven, yet the staff here never seem very welcoming, happy or chatty.

Before leaving Cornwall, we visited this lovely ice cream parlour. The service was great and the ice cream is made locally. We loved every taste! I had 1 scoop of coffee and I my husband had a scoop of cornish vanilla with clotted cream on top! We will definitely go back at another time. :D.
