Hong Kong Garden in Purbeck

I stood at the counter while the man behind moved stock around and ignored me. When he eventually looked at me I asked for the order and he said £10.10, I pointed out that it was £10z. 10p for the carrier bag was the reply. So I said I didn’t order a bag. He was grumpy throughout and the place looks uncared for. The food was very average at best.

We ordered food via phone at 5 when they opened and asked for it to be ready for 6 they said it was absolutely fine. We showed up at 6 and paid thinking our food would be handed straight to us however we then had to wait another 40 minutes to receive our food. We then checked our food and found that they had missed a few dishes which then added an additional 20 minute wait to our order. Furthermore when we got back we had realised some of the dishes we had received were not even correct. They also advertise free dishes on their menu when you order over a certain amount and on an over £80 order we did not receive this which is slightly disappointing. Will not be ordering from here again.

A great chinese, cooked fresh in front of you. A great selection of choices. No card payments though, so make sure you have cash.

Great take away, tasty food that we all enjoyed. We ordered 9 different dishes to share and all were lovely, sweet and sour chicken the favourite.

Called in here with my wife on our way home. Ordered a Hong Kong House Special Chow Mein, a Hong Kong House Special fried rice. Both dishes were disgusting. The chicken was slimy, the other meats were dried out and inedible, the rice was stodgy and had a fried egg thrown on the top, that looked like the dog had thrown it up. In my 60 years on this planet this is by far the worst chinese meal ever. Only two serving which meant long wait, and chicken was heavily processed with a wishy washy curry sauce that even a supermarket sauce would have destroyed. Awful, awful, awful.

Very very greasy food & much too salty for us. Agreed chips were awful 😬☹️ Shame. Chicken omlette was very dry. Rice dishes were nice.

The sechuan part of the meal was ok, the spring rolls were lovely, but the simplest item was rubbish. Chips! Obviously reheated and really unpleasant. 😢

Thought I’d give them another try after they were rated 5* again! I ordered a chicken chow mein which had no chicken in it, but I had a piece of cardboard stuck to the roof of my mouth instead after trying it. Also ordered 1/4 duck pancakes was definitely not 1/4 in the takeaway tub & hoisin sauce was runny & salty. Definitely will never be going back. Gross

Highly recommend! We had a lovely meal from here and can see it being cooked. Very clean and friendly with a hygiene rating of 5 stars

Me and my partner ate here tonight and I can honestly say we will never be returning. Food was absolutely terrible and it’s made me quite poorly. How this place is still operating is beyond me.

Ordered food and said we would pop in the shop next door they said “it won’t be long” then had to wait 1 1/2 hours for our food only when I asked for our money back they started to cook it . The food wasn’t worth the wait as well don’t bother stopping in this place unless you need somewhere to rest for a long time!!!!!

Man extremely rude... when ordering food it seems like you’re having a spat with him.... all very odd! Was tempted to walk off and take my custom elsewhere! Food was average..... slightly put off by the 3/5 hygiene rating sticker on the door... ( which I hadn’t spotted until after I had ordered! 😬😬) All rather run down in the actual place.... Will not be returning...!

We have used Hong Kong garden for years. They would say in an hour, but the order was Never on time. But can’t fault the food. Especially for me Their Giant pancake rolls. Good service by young people in the community.

6 of us all ordered mains,sides and rice and it was all cooked in an hour and well worth the wait. It is cash only but that's pretty standard for takeaways. Food was delicious and perfectly cooked. Very happy

Don’t be put off by previous reviews! Our takeaway was delicious! The outside looks.... well, awful but the food was lovely! We ordered for a family of five on holiday (we are very fussy and nearly turned away from the outside appearance but, we took a chance and were absolutely amazed with the quality). Everything was cooked to order, it was fresh and not greasy in the slightest, well priced, and totally exceeded our initial expectations. Will visit again when in the area.

Absolutely disgusting, the chicken balls are not cooked in fresh oil, and are near enough rock solid and hard to chew, chips looked old, reheated, dry and taste horrible, will not be eating here again!

My partner and I rarely have takeaway! We wont be ever having it from here again.Both my partner and I have been really poorly all night, more so my partner I had to ring for a doctor in the end as he was soo sick! He had a thai green curry and I had beef chew mein mine tasted fine! My partners was disgusting the chicken didn't taste right it tasted slimy let's just put it this way I'm pleased he didn't eat it all as I think it would have been a different situation!

The first time we ordered from this restaurant there were no problems. The following time we waited for our food for 2 and a half hours after being told it would only take an hour. We gave them a final chance on Wednesday 19th June, the wait time was fine and our food was ready very quickly. However, the food was of such poor quality. My egg fried rice was sludgy and seemed so over cooked it was like soup, the prawn chow mein tasted metallic and prawns seemed under cooked. The beef in black bean was gloopy and unfortunately the food made me very sick after eating it. The rest was thrown in the bin. Although my boyfriend’s dishes were a lot tastier than mine, we will sadly not be returning.

I used to live in the area and regularly visited this takeaway.Since moving away I have realised how good a takeaway it is. I now travel back to it when I want Chinese food because all the other ones in the Purbeck don't even come close. I thought I had just been unlucky with all the other local ones (which I always give a second chance) so tried again whilst away in Barnstaple and again, the standard and flavours were no comparison to Hong Kong garden. Fantastic. Keep up the good work.

The worst Chinese I’ve ever not eaten. Visiting the area from London with my wife three daughters there husbands and three grandchildren. Decided to have a night in around the telly so ordered Chinese For all. Found in shop menu had been altered to online sample and was much more expensive as a result. When we finally got the food back to our accommodation and £80 worse off we couldn’t believe what was inside. It looked like a pack of dogs Had been at it first and decided it wasn’t fit for their consumption. Do not use this takeaway whatever you do.

Staying in Wool, read some reviews and really did not feel like going. However had had a long day as bit the bullet. Ordered over the phone, they said 15 min, order was ready when we walked in. Food was just average, certainly eatable, bit on the bland side and if in area again would probably body swerve the place unless I really fancied a Chinese and could not be bothered to travel further afield ie Wareham.

Visited there last week son inlaw ordered and was waiting when my husband arrived to order . Well sitting waiting waiting over an hour and more . Other people were there waiting also. My husband ordered only two simple items after 90 mins i told them to shove it got money back , chef was rubbish no staff two local lads went behind to help it wasnt their fault they did their best . Chef didnt have a clue people also got money back and said shove it. This is no way to run a business.Be quite honest it didnt look all that clean behind even when the young lad went to help my husband said he was dealing with food but didnt even wash his hands first so im glad we didnt eat from there its off putting . never again shall we visit there

Please please stay away from this establishment they really don't care. Really needs , some nice people could be really good , present people are poo can't even be bothered to call you back after you asked them to had to go back a throw it back at them £25 still out of pocket and some poor person is Short of his order , still if your into crap service and love sitting on the bog all night crack on. Top tip use the two in Wareham much better

Had chicken yellow bean sauce got home and chicken was raw I've been a regular for a long time.i took it back explained to lady who took my order and she apologized she said something to the cook who was new not the owner who is fantastic.he raised his voice and shouted in Chinese which u can make your mind up what he said shan't be back sorry

We have had two or three takeaways from here & they have been ok the first one was better than the last one we had the rice didn't look good or taste fresh cooked the prices are reasonable we normally order over the phone whilst traveling to Dorset after a 2/3 hour journey & the lad who answers is always polite

I have used this many times, it is my local after all, fair prices and very good food, sometimes have to wait a while, popularity I assume!

My husband and I ordered from here tonight as it is usually the best Chinese you can get. We should have cooked at home! We were very disappointed

We ordered our usually food chicken and pineapple was pink special fried rice was cold God know what they had done to the BBQ sauce it tasted disgusting all of it was cold. The young guy taking the ordered was very apologetic but the person cooking was not bothered Will NOT be going there again got to the one at Bovington much better

On holiday in West Lulworth we thought we'd have an easy night and get a Chinese takeaway. Wes ordered a wide range of dishes some of which were unrecognisable to our usual takeaway, and every one of them tasted that way too!!! the duck dish was really fatty, special fried rice didn't even resemble rice and had what looked like an omelette on top, sweet n sour sauce was awful amongst many other complaints!! I never bother with reviews but don't want anyone else to waste their money on this takeaway and to top it all they only take cash, what sort of a business is this!!! Please please don't come here!!!!!

Good freshly cooked food. Good choice and value for money. Open plan kitchen so good to be able to see food being prepared and cooked

An average Chinese meal. The crispy duck was really fatty. The noodles were nice and the prawns were excellent. The chill beef was extremely spicy and the prawn crackers were rock hard. A poor Chinese takeaway.

Long time since we had such a good Chinese takeaway. And it was still piping hot despite having to walk it back to the caravan park. Can thorough recommend.

We ordered a takeaway from this restaurant last night as we couldn't get to our usual one. I have to say we were really disappointed and won't be visiting again. It really wasn't good and not enjoyed by any of our party. We never have any left overs as a rule but we did this time!Sorry but we won't be back

Having read previous poor reviews I almost didn't order here but was glad I did!The fried rice's were non greasy with good content & chowmein equally nice.Sweet & Sour balls plentiful portion & again not as greasy as many places.Chicken curry good as was the special order duck curry apart it being a bit fatty a breast BUT I am nit picking & thought the quality of the homemade curry sauce was great...could have been a touch thicker..Fab prawn crackers! crispy chips! & this being our usual order I can tell you it was £6.70 less than 2 other takeaways I order from :)

Although fairly local this was the first time I've used this for a chinese take-away. Maybe we went on a bad night but can honestly say it was the worst chinese meal either of us have had and most went in the bin, tough old meat, brown soggy veg (like green peppers), I thought the noodles were actually spaghetti, overcooked and sloppy. It was very expensive and to be told they only take cash and not cards will ensure I never go there again.

Just driving around ( recharging a flat car battery) this take away tempted me to buy my dinner rather than cook my own. There was the usual Chinese menu items but some new ones ( to me) that sounded interesting but I couldn't eat all of them so chose one of the set meals for one. The kitchen is open to view from the customer area and everything was clean and tidy. Everything was cooked to order and in order so if you pay attention you can tell when your order is up and watch it being prepared. After a reasonable wait (which gave me a chance to talk to other customers who all praised the place) I received my order which was more than enough and I was glad I was hungry enough to eat it all!

Paying £18 for a chicken curry with no rice, a chow mein and some battered prawns was the first fright. On return to our accommodation we realised that the quality was really poor with a curry that tasted like it had been made from a shop powder mix. I'd told my wife that at least the 45 minute wait would mean that quality was assured but how wrong I was. Its evident that you can serve up poor food to tourists like us who will probably never visit again but hey don't forget we can still tell everyone just how poor the meal was on Trip Adviser. Basic food and premium price...

As it was our first camping trip, we let our 6 year old choose the dinner to which he asked for a chinese. Young lad who took our order was polite however the cooks/owners didn't seem bothered about helping him when we asked about a dish and couldn't offer us a half portion like we get at home for our son to which they lost part of our order. The food sufficed but found it quite greasy, wouldn't use again

Chose the Hong Kong Garden for very limited choice of takeaways in the area, found the service to be good and the food tasty for a reasonable price. Portion sizes were good, A little too much onion in some dishes perhaps.

The food is cooked fresh to order. If on a busy fri, sat or Sunday night. You can be told 15 mins to collect & be waiting for up to an hour. Would be much better if they told you 45 mins & then you could go over to collect. Food nice & tasty once gotten if not a little pricey compared to other chineses. I think as they are the only Chinese in Wool they can get away with charging more & being slow. If there was competition perhaps they'd up their game. Nice as its the only thing here to eat.

Staying in self catering accommodation whilst visiting the area we ordered a take away crispy chilli beef,... Soggy, salt chilli chicken.. Ok, chicken in yellow bean sauce... More onion than anything else and plain rice as you'd imagine, not the cheapest Chinese take away, £20 for 4 dishes and very bland. Highly disappointing,

We popped in here while staying locally, love the idea that you can view them preparing the food, it was busy, friendly staff. The food was over sweetened and highly garlicky. To be fair we both couldn't eat much of it.

I read all the bad reviews before ordering but as I was hungry and it was the only take away I went for it. Myself and 5 others couldn't fault it. I have given five stars because it's exactly what you expect from a Chinese. If you're in the area it's honestly not a bad wee Chinese.

So disappointed, I had a take away my usual order only to find it was not the same it was awful. I telephoned to ask had they changed ownership they said NO.Tried it again to give the benefit of the doubt, awful again.I definitely would not use them anymore.

I have used this take away for many years, it has recently changed ownership and the food has changed dramatically for the worse. I usually have the Special Chow Mein, in the past it was full of flavour and full of meat and vegetables.The last one I had, I could tell straight away that they had a different cook.Very watery, lack of meat and veg, tasteless in the extreme. If they do not improve they will find themselves loosing customers.

I have got to say that this use to be a very good takeaway, but for some reason the food has gone down hill, sorry to say but it is by far the worse takeaway I have had to date could have made it better myself. Be glad to know if it improves and would be happy to try again.

Used to have a regular takeaway from here as it was pretty amazing, tried the new owners, not impressed... Given it a few months and decided to try again... Still poor... The crispy chilly beef is soggy, and there doesn't appear to be any actual beef in it.... Rubbish

This used to be a lovely place. me and my friend used to have one every Friday night but now someone else has took over and the food is just so poor quality now so we've stopped going there

If this is the one in Wool ....Dorset, we used it once ....... if you are staying local(ish) order ahead ..... All C. take-aways have their own flavours and style. This was the usual fayre and we enjoyed our meals ........ and did not need to drink pints of water later that night !My Duck chow mien had good chunks of duck ...... no fatty bits like my local one !

Good food, expensive compared to big cities, but on par for area - everything is expensive here. Can get very busy in holiday periods.

Horrible, greasy almost inedible. We barely touched it. The pancake roll is actually bled grease when I tried cutting it and it was basically a pouch if deep fried bean sprouts. The veg sweet and sour we ordered contained out of date mushrooms judging by their appearance, wrinkled and chewy.

The food was ok but we rang our order in 2 hours ahead of when we wanted it but they only started cooking it once we arrived - so why take phone orders???

It's the only Chinese for quite a few miles and could do with some competition. Portions were small and prices high. Would go back if portion size was better but for time being will stick to the chippy over the railway line

The best chinese takeaway in Dorset,The food is excellent quality,Large portions,I would recommend this place to everybody,The only down side is they get very very busy and take the phone off the hock so can take a long tome to place your order, and they dont offer home delivery,but the food is well worth the wait ?
