The Bakers Arms in Purbeck

Stopped off at the bakers arms last week and sat in the lovely beer garden area and my dog was also very welcome we enjoyed some delicious food and was served by Archie he was lovely and very helpful and we will definitely be coming back soon 😃 really lovely pub and very friendly and welcoming staff.

Only stopped here to charge our car, we bought 2 alcoholic drinks and 1 j2o cost £12 very reasonable especially for the area.

Visited on a lovely sunny Sunday. We were extremely disappointed with the food. For the price of the meals on the menu, the quality, flavour and portions were extremely poor. The staff looked very unhappy and seemed that they did not want to be there. I would highly discourage people from eating there, however, it may be nice to have a drink there on a sunny day. It’s such a shame.

Food was ok but massively overpriced! I had the signature burger and a pint and it was over £24. The food took ages and was like a bk burger with a small portion of fries and 2 tiny onion rings! Beer garden was nice.

Went for lunch today coffee was cold. Meals bought out. Tartare sauce missing then told after looking for staff they had run out. Asked for other sauces and totally forgotten. Meal was cold so left half of it. Service was awful only looking after people in main dining area and not in pub.

Went with group of appox 20 for a retirement lunch. We pre ordered food. Starters all came out together and then when starters finished mains arrive. Excellent service thank you Steve. All food served was of good quality and enjoyed by all. We bought our drinks from the bar separately. A good experience all round .

Food was mediocre at best small portions the fruit pavlova had no fruit just a meringue with a bit of compote, service was painfully slow. Shall not be going again. The waitress was friendly and apologetic for the delay.

We came yesterday evening for a meal with my son whom is autistic. Steve our waiter was absolutely amazing. It’s the little things that mean so much like being able to sit near a plug socket.great communication skills, sitting at eye level when taking food order. Steve brought my sons ice cream and as soon as he got close asked about chocolate sauce, it’s like he knew plain is the preference, he asked me before putting it down and sorted it straight away. Thank you Steve for your great customer service x

Had a fantastic experience at The Bakers Arms! The food was absolutely lovely — freshly prepared, delicious, and plenty of options to choose from. What really stood out was how brilliant they were with catering for my egg allergy. The staff were knowledgeable, careful, and made sure everything was safe without making it feel like a hassle. It’s rare to find somewhere so accommodating, and it made the whole visit so much more relaxing and enjoyable. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a great meal and a place that takes allergies seriously!

Amazing food, helpful & polite service staff. Especially Charlotte, such a lovely lady. Couldn’t fault this great place. Dogs are allowed too. Only the Brand that says if you join the membership you will get £10 off your bill once over £40. Didn’t find out until after our meal that it takes 6 hrs to be valid. So we just had to book for Easter Sunday dinner.

This place is all style over substance. We have eaten at vintage Inns before (Beachy Head) but this venue was really not worth going to. Food was cold, late, one meal had most of it forgotten and nobody was attentive to our needs. We had been to a local pub up the road which was far better but as this was a Vintage Inn we thought it would be better; sadly it was not.

My friend and I enjoyed a scrumptious lunch 😋 at The Baker's Arms yesterday. We loved the food, the whole ambiance and especially the excellent service from Steve, our wonderful waiter, who made us feel not just welcome but also like cherished guests. A great venue that we'll be recommending to family and friends - and we'll certainly be returning ourselves!

Always a good place for lunch. Friendly staff. Our server, Steven, was very polite and attentive. Wait was a bit long today but it's school holidays and so to be expected. Otherwise a very good experience.

I visited The Bakers Arms pub and received outstanding service that exceeded expectations. From the moment I arrived, the staff were warm, welcoming, and attentive. The atmosphere was friendly and relaxed, and the service was prompt and courteous throughout. Particularly Chrissie Butt and Emily Stark who went out of their way to ensure we were comfortable and well looked after.

I orded a gin and tonic you had no gordons so had hendricks the tonic was not brought to the table so didn't no what it was I like to put my own tonic in the gin was flooded with what appeared to be a pump mixer at £3.50 and didn't even taste like tonic and ruined the £9.50 drink I may as well had a flat fizzy lemonade .Mrs Wallis

Who doesn't enjoy a fantastic Sunday Roast at a cosy pub? The food was absolutely delicious and beautifully presented. The pub itself is spacious, yet its thoughtful layout makes you feel like you're in your own little corner, creating a truly special experience. And they also had a soft refurbishment. What really stood out, though, was the warmth, friendliness, and professionalism of the staff. Hats off to the management for clearly making great service a top priority. We had a lovely time enjoying our lunch in the garden, basking in the sun. I’ll definitely be back the next time I’m in Dorset!

We had booked a table weeks in advance and people who were in front of us who hadn't booked was given a decent table . Where as we were seated at a table that was central point where everyone was walking around and draughty. We expressed our disappointment and where told there were no other tables yet there was and I again expressed our unhappiness where we sat and asked to move to a vacant table that was a bit more secluded. Waited ages for our salads which were vertually thrown in front of us by a young guy . Terrible service food medioca. Won't be going back.

Went in for a lunch time drink and snack good food very plentiful although it was very quiet the staff were very friendly and Lee was very helpful.

Ordered a child meal, chicken parmigna and a beef rib bourguignon. Children’s meal and chicken meal was fine unfortunately the beef rib meal was un appetising, the meat was pure fat and couldn’t be eaten with such little mash and veg. Costing a great £25.50. The female staff were amazing and very welcoming towards us adults and children. The men on the other hand were unwelcoming and wasn’t approachable. Wouldn’t go again unfortunately.

Came for opening night after the refurbishment, place looks fab!!! My lamb skewers were very tasty. Came with my whole family had a lovely evening out , great service great atmosphere.

Came for a meal last Friday, to sample the new menu and see the new refurbishment, absolutely lovely! Food was gorgeous, I was stuck which new menu options to go for as there are a few of my favourites. Had mains and desserts which were amazing. Served by Lorraine, who has a bubbly personality, she helped us with choosing some of the food by recommending and describing the meals / desserts. All went down with a lovely glass of wine or two. Will be back soon. Thankyou. P.s. Won't sit too near the open fire next time, looks lovely, but it was a bit warm haha.

We came to try out the newly refurbished pub. The decor looks amazing and has a very cosy feel to it. The new menu has a nice selection of dishes which made it hard to choose! The quality of the food was very good, and the service was fantastic, thanks to Lorraine. We look forward to our next visit.

Came Back to the bakers after there refurbishment. The New food Menu is incredible and I thoroughly enjoyed my Meal. I ate the new lamb and chicken skewers with flatbread. Really tender meat and a lovely garnish. We were served by Beth who was excellent. Really good customer service

First visit to Baker's Arms for some time. Was ideal location as meet-up point with a friend. Lovely atmosphere and tables nicely spaced out between diners, so feels private. Served by Steve who was very helpful and attentive. Food was delicious. We shall be coming again soon

We enjoyed our meals the steak was cooked perfectly. Our waitress Candice was very helpful and super efficient. Would definitely recommend to others.

Beautiful pub, if the weather is nice, does have lots of outdoor seating. Staff are really welcoming, friendly, and helpful, nothing was too much trouble. Loads to choose from on the menu and separate specials menu. Food was delicious, and I highly recommend it.

Great atmosphere...mostly nitrogen and oxygen... friendly yet professional staff... mouth watering menu and really tasty food. Everything you could want from a pub lunch or romantic evening meal.

Last couple of times here the service has been especially bad however there was a definite difference this time. On this occasion the kids food and our food was brought out at roughly the same time, as opposed to previous occasions where ours were brought ten min before kids leaving them and us a bit upset. What was also different was the prices - now £18-20 for Sunday dinner which is more than we've recently paid elsewhere - £14 for a better roast dinner at eg Kings Arms Stoborough or the pub in Milborne in the last month. On this occasion at the Bakers Arms we still had to wait a long time for food to arrive - I think about 30 minutes. The meal was ok-ish, very good turkey but poorly cooked veg. Way too little veg and way too much turkey. There was about three meals worth of meat on my plate. But then they are not the only restaurant to have skimped on the veg. Dessert was average and very expensive. Unlike the dinner the portion size was very small. Keep the prices down and get a better chef, organise the kitchen better and this could be a really nice place to eat.

always a pleasure when visiting here even on Valentines when it was super busy they still catered to all our needs and the Valentine Menu was delicious then the food is always good what ever you ordered never had a bad meal here and great choice of drinks for everyone's needs

Returned with my wife for the Valentine Day menu. Have past history with the establishment as it was my local 20 years ago, and we held our wedding reception there in 2009, but we moved away 10 years ago. Nice to return and see a couple of staff members who remembered me! The Valentine menu was excellent, plenty of good choices, with nicely sized portions, that suited both of our tastes. My server Chrissie did a very good job, checking on everything with it not seeming as if she was fussing too much. Wheelchair access has always been good, any slopes are gentle and the facilities suitable to our needs. So pleased we made the effort to return there.

The bakers arms has some fabulous food, I love the Penang curry, hubby loves the burger! Atmosphere is cosy, staff are efficient and friendly. It's our go to place.

Came in for Valentine’s Day dinner and it was absolutely lovely would have tiped If I had remembered the cash but I didn’t so a review it is honestly steak was cooked to perfection and very accommodating to my tag for alcohol free best food for a lovely Valentine’s Day

Emily was fantastic catering to us tonight, had a meal out for a colleagues birthday and the food was delicious. Portion sizes are huge too! Will definitely be back.

Great food but it can be very hit and miss on some occasions. Always loved the duck parfait pate for a starter as an example.

Recently went for a Sunday lunch which was very nice

We arrived just before 5pm, for our pre-booked dining slot. We waited by the entrance 10 minutes, in that time there were 7 members of staff walking around, making drinks, coffees, placing orders, also clearly handing over day to evening shifts. Not one person acknowledged us. Eventually we were taking to a table by the most miserable young lady I've ever come across (we interrupted her whilst she was discussing her boxing classes with her colleague!). Another lady came over and took a drinks order, which was delivered relatively promptly. The same lady came back and took the food order, which was just five main courses, plus a kids garlic bread for starter. The garlic bread arrived about 10 minutes later. We then saw no one else for almost 1 hour. My husband went a spoke to a member of staff and was told that,because there had been a starter, our mains had been pushed to the back of the queue! It was kids garlic bread! The mains arrived relatively quickly after this (so an hour and 10 minutes after ordering.) The food was tasty and good portion sizes. We then ordered desserts and coffee. We were told there was no coffee, apart from decaf for milky drinks (apart from for filter coffee americanos). Our desserts and decaf coffees arrived pretty swiftly. I got up to pay, as there were no staff around to ask for the bill. There was some discount for the waiting time, but I'd rather have paid full price and had a good meal in good time, with staff that know how to smile! Overnight last night,my husband has been poorly, which we can only deduce is from the Signature Burger. All in all, really disappointing and will absolutely not be returning. When was the last hygiene inspection,out if interest?

Really good meals: Roast Sirloin of Beef and Turkey Roast. Good sized portions and wonderful gravy. Quite a long wait for main courses but we were warned of this on placing order. I wasn't surprised by the delay as the place was rammed with diners. By the time we ordered deserts the place quite quiet so I was disappointed by another long wait for deserts, eventually asking for refund as with a long journey still ahead of us we could wait no longer. We will be back......

Cold restaurant. Service hurried and food over cooked. Dogs in restaurants rarely works well. High price point for less than average venue.

Visited The Bakers Arms on a Sunday...Opens at 12. Really cosy atmosphere in the bar area, with a mix of rustic wooden tables and chairs, cosy lounge chairs and an open fire... Had the Sunday Roast, very nice indeed !!!!

The roast dinner here on a Sunday is outstanding. Big portion, great value for money. The lamb was delicious and all the vegetables were perfect for my tastes. This is a classic country pub atmosphere with friendly staff and a comfortable decor.

The food was absolutely delicious. Everything was well cooked and hot apart from the chips that came with the steak which was slightly disappointing. The service was fantastic. The ladies that looked after us were friendly and attentive but not overbearing. Overall we had a lovely Boxing Day lunch and we will return.

Lovely Cosy pub with a real log fire and old wooden beams. Food was tasty and well cooked and presented nicely. Plenty of free parking too.

Well after waiting half a hour for drinks . He drops them all over my guest . Went to the men’s bathroom were it was flooded with pee &stunck and the total apologies were under renovation 🤔why on earth is it open then I said witch she replied I’ll get it fixed🤔 not any help . Totally disgraceful service from the service &staff at the BAKERS ARMS never again 😡

Booked a table for our office christmas lunch. Staff very friendly and efficient. Disappointed though with the turkey dinner. no pigs in blankets included or cranberry sauce. Apart from 2 slices of turkey the plate was covered in cabbage with a few soft potatoes and parsnips buried within the cabbage. Very unappetising and not value for money or a true christmas dinner. The starters and desserts were OK though.

Went for Christmas dinner today.. 2 course.. disappointed that you had to pay extra for pigs in blankets, you really would expect a pig in blanket on a Christmas dinner, wouldn't you ? Parsnips very hard, frozen sprouts. Roast potatoes not really very roasted. Very disappointing for the money.. Puddings were all lovely. ... won't be rushing back and definitely wouldn't be back for Christmas menu again.

Thoroughly enjoyed our Work Christmas lunch at the Bakers Arms. The food was delicious and the staff were attentive and friendly. Easily accessible and plenty of parking too. Lovely festive atmosphere! Keep up the good work.

Lovely pub aesthetically, good service and very accommodating. Just a shame the food wasn't up to scratch. Our calamari starters were served warm at best which wasn't enjoyable and the 10oz Ribeye steak that I ordered was really poor quality. It was tough, gristley and overcooked. For £25 to serve it with tomatoes and chips and it be by far the worse thing on the plate spoke volumes. Our bill came to £105 for a 3 course meal and two soft drinks with two sides included and for the quality of what was served this was about £40 over priced.

Fish finger sandwich was very bland and greasy and fried weren't seasoned - such a shame as I had heard good things about the pub! The man behind the bar was lovely though and he was a credit to the pub.

I visited for my birthday. The male waiter was lovely, the tables clean and the atmosphere nice. However, the service was slow, the food tepid and either under cooked or over cooked .

On Sunday I booked dinner for two for Tuesday online and received confirmation after I'd made a lot of arrangements for my day and with my parner for the dinner. Monday I get informed that the whole business has a Quiz Night on a Tuesday! No warning on the website and not what you want when expecting a quiet intimate dinner setting with your partner! Booking cancelled! Not Good Enough and not how you go about running a restaurant business!

Took over three hours from start to finish. Two young children struggling to stay awake. That was for three courses.

The meals were fine but I was disgusted at the price of the drinks. £3.20 for HALF A PINT of lager £4.10 for HALF A PINT of non alcoholic lager We were planning to call in again next Thursday on our way to Poole BUT NOT AT THESE PRICES.

Unfortunately, my recent visit to The Bakers Arms was disappointing. The food was well below standard, with poor quality and lacking freshness or flavor. Additionally, the service left much to be desired—staff appeared inattentive and unaccommodating, making the experience feel unwelcoming. Overall, it did not meet expectations, and improvements in both food quality and customer service are urgently needed.
