Stopped here on the off chance as we were passing and were lucky enough to get a table. Good range of choices for vegetarians. Loved the quirky decor. Food delicious.

We viewed empty tables through the window, only one with 'reserved ' on.. We went in and asked for a table for 2, We were told they were fully booked, and not likely to have any available. Most places would have said, would you like to pop back later to see if we have any tables free. Now given , we both noticed the lady looked at our badges, which said 'We stand for Freedom ' and 'Cash is King'. We are now wondering if we hadn't had the badges, would a table have been found. We will not be returning, and will advise our friends what happened, so they can be aware.

We dropped in for for a light lunch last week whilst visiting Castle Carey and Bruton. What a lovely antidote to the expensive and packed with luvvies eateries in the latter which we beat a hasty retreat from. This cafe by contrast was delightfully unpretentious, the owners were friendly and accommodating, and their freshly prepared salads were excellent and very reasonably priced. Restores faith in local Somerset life! We look forward to returning when passing through next. Well done.

This is a small quaint cafe on the high street, with the entrance up a little side street. The owners and staff are very welcoming and friendly. There is a nice relaxed atmosphere in here. The food is all homemade and tends to be baked in front of you by the counter. The duck salad wrap was very tasty and there was a nice range on the menu - not extensive as all homemade which is understandable. The coffee is very good and the cakes were good. Will be visiting again.

My friend and I were looking for somewhere to have a late lunch on a Monday afternoon. After being turned away from one establishment she suggested 'Home'. As I've had a knee problem recently she was concerned I wouldn't make it up the High Street. It is sloping but not extreme, so, we continued on our way. (The alternative was shopping for and preparing "a bite to eat" for ourselves NOT much of a treat).I am genuinely delighted that we carried on.The Roasted Vegetable Salad with Halloumi was easily a scrumptious plate to set before two hungry women. With a side order of soda bread and butter. Now -for a dessert we "Umm-ed and Augh-ed" in the choosing the Bakewell cake.I had Bakewell tart, many times, even in Bakewell, BUT NEVER, Bakewell cake.Delicious. Moist. When you push the fork in the jam oozed out from between the layers. Really a sweet tasty treat.A latte each and we both agreed it was a late lunch that deserved a positive review. The couple who served us were friendly and welcoming on a chilly, grey, drizzly day.HOME deserves your custom. And they're open till 5pm (17:00).

Myself and my Mum visited Home for lunch today after reading about it in a local magazine and we're not disappointed! Its a lovely cosy environment that lives up to its name! We were advised to book beforehand and we were glad we did as there is limited seating available. The staff were very attentive and the service was excellent. Then menu is a vegetarians dream and has some lovely unusual food on nearly all the dishes. We tried the quinoa pizza and frittata and asked for some of the homemade soda bread on the side after hearing how yummy it is, which they were happy for us to do even though this isn't a menu option. Both dishes were excellent and totally lived up to our expectations. Its very reasonably priced and a hidden gem in a small town! Overall we couldn't rate Home highly enough and will definitely be visiting again soon.

Frittata. But not as I've ever known it. Look, its main ingredients are pastry and spuds. So should be ordinary. Not this. Beautifully light, amazing balance of textures with the perfect basic flavours shot through with subtle bursts of herbs. Served with an excellently dressed salad and two lovely little grain accompaniments again perfectly seasoned. This was getting on for Michelin quality, but with no brigade of chefs, just the very talented Fiona. Superb.

Eaten and coffeed her a good few times now and superb every time. Fiona's food is partly inspired by Ottolenghi, but sorry Yotam I've eaten at yours and Fiona's tastes better. This is food made with real skill and love. Paul is the Head Barrista as resident Italian. Pippa is the resident grown up. No point in recommending a particular dish as it is all the greatest. Because it is all carefully made from fresh be prepared to wait, and Paul and Fiona have school age kids so don't cause them to be left at the school gates by expecting Home to stay open after 3pm.

Home has only been open for a month and I guess still finding its feet, but I was keen to try a new vegetarian and vegan cafe in the area, and this on, slap bang in the middle of Castle Cary high street is small but welcoming. You can't get through the front door, and so the only way in is up the passageway to the right and then through the kitchen, where you are warm greeted by the owners. Park in the centre of Castle Cary and walk up through the Main Street till you come to the town hall. If you look opposite you will see a narrow path indicating a route up to the start of the walk. The path goes between houses up through a narrow path with a community seating area. Pass through the kissing gate and walk straight up to a fence the diagonally up a large field. Keep on this path until you reach the ridge, the views back over the town are brilliant. Bear right and walk along the ridge until you come to a viewing area that is closed off to stop cattle entering it. There are seats and a telescope which gives you a fantastic view over the mendip hills. You can see for miles on a clear day. To return to the town carry on down the right hand side of the hill as indicated. You can then view the horse pond in the centre of the town where a pair of swans are usually present and if you are lucky they may have babies!
