Attended a private birthday tea party. Wow what a spread. A vast selection of sandwiches, home made scones, a variety of cakes and shortbread. All served on proper china and with a really good cup of tea. It was an excellent afternoon and our hostess had thought of everything.

Wonderful little antidote to the chain coffee shops, just off the A303

Stopped off to get away from Easter traffic on the way back from the West Country - so glad we broke the journey here not at some soul-sapping service station. Hearty sandwiches, great cake and a natter with the owner.

The family stopped by Claire's (not her real name) on the way back from the West Country over Easter. We were rewarded with ridiculously generous sandwiches and a good chinwag - so glad we didn't just default to a service station. Exactly what we needed to break our journey - thank you.

Popped into Claire for a quick coffee prior to a local dentist appointment. Small venue but several customers enjoying food drink. One lady serving and preparing the food. Nice little place will use again. Cappuccino only £2.50p a bargain!!

Outstanding - a good, traditional cafe run by people who care about what they do and do it well. Very nice, freshly made sandwiches - a menu that has plenty of options - good value. It's worth seeking out this gem of a place, especially as you can park for free nearby.

We drove past the cafe when we were looking to break our drive home. Despite it being near closing time, Rachel (the owner if I remember correctly) was more than happy to make us fresh sandwiches and coffee which we had there. We even took away a cheese scone and cream tea scone as well as our leftover sandwiches as the portions were so big! All the food was fresh and tasty and we would certainly return if we were in the area again.

What an absolutely gorgeous little cafe & super friendly lady . We popped in for a late breakfast, very busy & all seats / tables occupied. However the lovely lady said if we walked around the block she will save us a table. We went for a stroll such a lovely place. As promised a table for two was waiting for us.we had a tea & coffee with two full breakfast ( one small one large ) absolutely delicious ! Best breakfast in a long time. The super friendly lady was running the place single handed such a busy bee. We departed with a couple of home made cheese scones ( freshly cooked that morning) sooo delicious! Thank you for such a memorable delicious visit!

I wandered in not having ventured here before. I am used to a greasy spoon and a no nonsense fry up. This is not that sort of fry up... It's lean and not at all greasy. The tomatoes are absolutely wonderful and the bread I swear was sourdough. Either way it had seeds galore and tasted fantastic. The bacon was thick and tasty, the sausages were top notch and the baked beans were hot. Overall very impressed with the quality here.

I was fortunate to come across this Cafe on my travels. Opened at 08.30. Very nice Vegetarian Breakfast, Tea and Coffee. The Cheese Scone was probably the best I can remember having. Super service, and the atmosphere enhanced by a couple of locals. I hope to pass that way again ! Free Council Car Park across the road. Amazing.

Dropped into Ilchester for some lunch, found this lovely little place. All day breakfast was gorgeous, jacket potatoes good too. Cakes to die for! Very friendly with good fresh cooked food. Highly recommend.

Served 10 of us a full breakfast plus multiple coffees all within an hour. Really lovely atmosphere.

Busy, busy!. Excellent menu options, especially for cooked breakfast fayre. Variety of ages and genda present when I visited. Dogs welcome. Not large, but efficient use of space. Member of staff seemed a little harried today, so perhaps short staffed: a request for a VAT receipt seemed a little too much trouble to happily undertake 🤨

Stopped here per chance, will definitely return on purpose! I had the best scone ever! With a generous amont of clotted cream. Quick service, very nice persons. We could park our bikes nearby.

Stopped for a snack lunch on long journey. Parking nearby. Small venue. Very efficient lady staff member and food was beautifully prepared and quickly served. Only downside was traffic noise from road outside but not an issue for us.

Only found this place due to closure and diversion of A303. Server ,(presumed owner,,) was very friendly and helpful whilst we were there. Food and drink excellent definitely a lucky find.

We stopped off here for lunch on our way from Sussex to Devon. What a find! Fantastic little café with friendly staff and amazing food. Incredibly reasonably priced. We had jacket potatoes, Panini, and BLT. My sister said the BLT sandwich was the best sandwich she’d ever had in her life. Simply cannot recommend this place highly enough.

My family visited this cosy place as we were passing through Ilcester on travels. We ordered kids lunches, jacket potatoes and paninis. Everyone enjoyed their food very much. Claire and her mum were very friendly and made us feel welcome. If it was near our home town we would definitely be regulars here!

Discovered this little gem as our original destination for brunch is take away only at the moment. What a find....pretty, bright, cheery little cafe with a good choice for breakfast/brunch/lunch or afternoon tea, as well as ice creams, sundaes, and a selection of drinks. We were there for brunch, which was delicious with generous portions at a very reasonable price. Thank you Claire we will certainly return!!

Stopped by Claire's whilst passing through for a takeaway lunch. Although we didn't sit in, Claire was friendly and welcoming, and our paninis were fresh and lovely! A little wait but easily worth it for delicious food and milkshakes. She even suggested a nice bench in the churchyard for us to sit and enjoy our lunch. Really nice owner, menu and reasonable prices!

In the words of my friend: “I haven’t had a breakfast that nice in a long time.” What more can we say?

Popped into Claire's about 10am for a bite to eat and a cuppa. Claire was very wecoming, chatting about the history of the Town and suggesting a trail/walk with a leaflet. I had two poached eggs on toast and it was so refreshing to find that someone can actually cook proper poached eggs for a change. Good strong pot of tea. The premises is quite small, but clean and tidy. My breakfast was excellent value and I will definately be back. Thank you Claire.

Had a lovely lunch today at Claire’s of Ilchester, with two friends from work. Lovely, charming environment and it was lovely to see the special treatment a youngster on the next table got. Our food was very nice, my colleagues particularly enjoyed their soup.

If you like M and M's this is the place for you. It is on 3 levels, with a huge variety of the sweets and merchandise.

Great bacon and egg sandwich for breakfast at 10am on a wintry Saturday morning. Easy contactless payment but no toilet. Coffee below average and ketchup sachets on table were pain. Great service and delicious, well cooked food. Glad we stopped by. Thanks

I have been here a couple of times. It is clearly the dream for Claire to have had her own cafe; it us well presented, twee, and really clean and tidy. It is small and cozy, with food cooked to order. You might have to wait a bit, but the wait is worth it. It seems busy in the mornings which is a good sign. She must be getting it right.

I visited the lovely compact town of Ilchester on a dry but rather windy day in September. The last time I was here the main road (A303) went through the place so that was before the bypass was built around the 1980s. There are two pubs here but I chose to eat a light lunch in Claire's cafe, just opposite the church and a free car park.I chose brie, cranberry, bacon sandwich on granary bread which cost a reasonable £5.25 and was served with salad and crisps. I also had a cappuccino. And very delicious it was.This cafe is quite small (18 seats) and does not have a customer toilet. I noticed that some items are not included on the menu or (from what I could see) displayed anywhere else inside the place, e.g. breakfasts, drinks. The printed menu consists mostly of paninis and sandwiches.The cafe has a 5* 'scores on the doors' hygiene rating from South Somerset District Council.

Heading home yesterday from Dartmoor we were looking for a brunch break a short distance away from the busier A303 offerings. Ilchester is a small quiet town just a few minutes diversion from the route. We discovered Claire's just across the road from the free car park. Prices are very reasonable, the staff friendly and the food excellent. A full Full English Breakfast was on offer for less than £7. It's well worth seeking out this gem.

So pleased we stopped here for breakfast. Excellent breakfast, lovely atmosphere and staff were so friendly. We would love to go back.

We stopped at Claire’s on Friday 5th of July on our way to Cornwall. Wanting to avoid the over-priced rubbish food that the service stations offer up.We couldn’t have had a better experience. There was a group of 4 adults and 3 children (one of which is only 1 years old).We were made to feel so welcome and nothing was too much bother. My niece has just been diagnosed with an intolerance to gluten and Claire was fabulous.The quality of the food was really good and the prices were really reasonable. You can park in the little car park opposite the cafe or if that’s full, you can park in the road next to it. Claire herself is a brilliant host and gave such care and attention, that you probably only get from someone that owns the business these days.I wish her every success as she is surely deserving of it and a huge thank you for getting our weekend away off to such a fantastic start.
