Only popped in for late lunch treat, last week, as I had been let down/disappointed by another new lunch venue in town, and the Emporium was just the perfect antidote. First rate personal service received at the counter and when serving. Attentive, personable and polite, and also quite happy sharing what was available when asked. I chose their special butternut squash soup, homemade lemon cake and a decaf coffee. Bootiful....

What more can I say than exceptional, the food is unbelievable. I won't go anywhere else for my Full English breakfast. The service is sublime, the staff are always so upbeat and happy to help. Been here a few times now but came recently with friends for a Cuban evening…. The food was good but could have been more on the plate for the price we were paying. That’s the only criticism, everything else was spot on. The staff are warm, friendly and attentive …will back for more lunches and definitely more events, they are brilliant and has a feel good vibe x

Came here for afternoon tea with my partner, it’s a lovely setting with friendly staff. Unfortunately the food wasn’t great, the sandwiches were ok but cakes seemed old and some had cream that was on the turn. We’ve eaten here before and it wasn’t great but gave it the benefit of the doubt. My advice would be to enjoy a coffee or tea but steer clear of the food.

We booked a table of 12 plus a highchair and pre-ordered from a varied and delicious-sounding menu. Gorgeous mezzo bowls, open sandwiches, Quiche, soup, toasties...... and lots of other goodies, including daily specials. All around £10 - £14. We arrived and our table was ready for us and friendly staff took our drinks order and delivered quickly. One of our party was held up and staff were happy to wait. The food was delicious! It's the sort of place you can get food envy! Lovely ambience and decor; efficient; good value. One thing - couldn't find our way around very easily. I never found the loo, and we had to be directed to the stairs!

The cafe is a lovely setting unfortunately the food was awful. Served cold coffee and told it was the first of the morning and the machine wasn’t hot enough - why serve it if you know it’s cold? The breakfast came - cold. The sausage was reheated, chewy and cheap products used and charging £14.95 for a breakfast you expect a good breakfast. We left our food and on asking if everything was ok we did say it was awful and probably the worst breakfast we have ever had. Staff were lovely but the food terrible. We were the only ones eating so no excuse to serve cold food. We were reimbursed the full amount of the breakfast.

The Emporium has a lovely atmosphere and very friendly staff. They serve at least one dairy-free and gf cake (on the day I went - yesterday) and a good decaff, soya latte. The only thing to consider is to not order if you are very pressed for time (bus to catch etc) as it does take a while to be served when busy - but that adds to its relaxed atmosphere. It's not a fast food place by any means and what is served is lovely.

This place was completely unexpected upstairs above the Emporium where you will find all sorts of nik naks, antiques, curiosities, on two floors whilst browsing before finding yourself walking into a small snug of a room. Here you will smell the waft of coffee, food and the chatter of people, as you are enticed into the cafe via a smell set of stairs you see both conventional and unconventional seating arrangements for your drinking and eating experience. Enjoy!

MORE AT Google

To begin, an overview in short; this cafe offers an excellent wide selection of food and drink to chose from, catering for those that just want a quick bite to those that want a hearty meal. In addition, this cafe has a wealth of events on that cater for every audience. Would highly recommend. However, I would like to go more in depth, as 100 or so words couldn’t easily describe what this cafe and the establishment overall is. It’s unique. To set the scene; as you ascend the steps towards the cafe, you are transported to a chic oasis in which every way you look something new catches your eye. Cakes and pastries of all shapes and sizes grace the counter and there’s the aroma of coffee blended with freshly made food from the kitchen greet you. Depending on whether it’s self service for breakfast, or table service for lunch/events, the cafe team are always on hand to ensure that you are catered for. A special mention goes to both Flic & Julie; both show a deep passion for service, which in turn makes you feel as if you were in a top end restaurant. I have had the experience of having just a cake and coffee, a fried breakfast, and evening meals in the visits I have made to the cafe. Your portions are more than substantial, the breakfasts large and flavoursome. The wedges - couldn’t fault them! With regards to drinks, I usually go for the cappuccino; there’s not been one that hasn’t had the perfect blend of caffeine and dreamy milky froth on top. Onto the events - there’s plenty of them! If I wasn’t tied up with certain dates, I would absolutely go to more, such as the Gin & Jazz nights. I’ve attended quite a few intimate gigs with local band Velvet Thunder - if they haven’t achieved local cult status yet, they’re not far from it! You’re always in for a good night with specially made food & cocktails based on the event (e.g. Halloween), and there’s just enough room to get up and get down with the music. Before I conclude this tale of many a visit, I would just like to take a moment to say a massive thank you to the team for making my daughters 5th birthday extra special! My aim was to have a dress up afternoon tea, and you delivered…and then some! So finally a question. If you’ve read this far and are considering visiting the cafe…what are you doing?! Get yourself over there and experience all this and more!

Regrettably on this occasion our experience was marred by what otherwise was a lovely breakfast. The front of house staff having taken a drinks order promptly on arrival left us hanging for what seemed an eternity. Despite asking to order at the counter and contacting waiting staff twice to let them know we were ready we were pretty much ignored until another member of staff presented a lunch menu. When management became aware, apologies were provided and put down to us 'hiding' in a corner and staff training. Customer service sadly lacking and when our food finally turned up a request for sauces initially fell on deaf ears. Despite this the very full and classic were both nicely presented, tasty and hot. If I were to be picky the bacon was a little dead for my pallette but edible. At just over £40 for two people it's not the most expensive or cheapest but feel there are other comparable venues close by that don't present these challenges.

This is my third time for an afternoon tea! First time was with American family, who were totally very impressed! The sandwiches were freshly made with crusts cut out (eggs and cress, carrot and houmous, tuna and cucumber, bacon and tomatoes), quiche, sausage rolls, homemade cakes (chocolate brownies, sponge with lemon curd, homemade fruit tart fresh fruits) and scones with clotted cream and jam. We were very lucky to get in without a booking, especially when we arrived about 1.30pm. Booking is recommended especially if you’re after an afternoon tea. The second time was for a friend’s 60th birthday. Having arrived at 3.30pm, we were told that we were too late for an afternoon tea, but could have a tea and cream tea. We tried some of their cakes too. The lemon cake was light and delicious. The Earl Grey cake was a bit bland. The third time was with French family, who declared it was a perfect occasion - their first British afternoon tea. They loved the beautifully decorated and quirky room. The staff was super helpful and polite - nothing was too much trouble. We were made very welcome! Once again freshly made sandwiches, quiche, cakes and scones. All in all, we loved every moment and will be back again. The Emporium downstairs is a very interesting experience too, should you look for an unusual present.

My friends and I decided to meet for afternoon tea. We discovered this place quite by chance. Firstly the shop itself is an aladins cave of quirkiness. The shop assistant pleasant and only too happy to help customers with their needs. The cafe upstairs felt warm and inviting with a variety of seating to suit everyone's needs, from sofas to tables for 2. The decor was cheerful. We chose a afternoon tea. Delicious sandwiches of beef and horseradish, carrot and houmous (sounds disgusting but was out of this world!), ham and mustard to name a few. Cakes were to follow. Strawberry tart, brownie and a Victoria sponge that only a granny could have made. We were too full for the scones so the waitress produced a box to put them in. The service we had was professional and friendly. Nothing was too much. The only downfall of this cafe it's 180 miles from my home town. We will be back!

My wife and I called in this morning to try the Breakfast and my word , we were not disappointed , the surroundings are quirky and very welcoming with a very friendly atmosphere cultivated by the happy helpful staff led by Julie the Manageress ....

Didn’t enjoy the roast dinner. Wish I had the burger. Paid for a large roast and I’d say it was a small . 4 small roast potatoes a whole Yorkshire and some meat and vegetables. It was £5:75 more than a small which was 2 roast potatoes and half a Yorkshire 😂 and vegetables.when do you get half a Yorkshire.?🤷🏼‍♀️ Potatoes where hard like they had been cooked for a while and the Yorkshire was very well done and hard . Can understand the extra money from small to large.. I’m sure the roast potatoes were frozen.. wish I’d stay at home totally wasted my money could of done a lot better for less than £10 and saved myself over £30 . I know it’s very hard running a pub now a days but if you do a Sunday roast it’s got to be decent. Potatoes don’t cost a lot and I’d rather wait a while and get fresh food rather than food that had been kept warm for a while. Very disappointed

I like it. Not posh but friendly and local. Cooked on site. I probably feel more relaxed here than anywhere in Wincanton.
