The Black Swan in South Somerset

Last Sunday (14/7/24), we called in and from the get go, the atmosphere made me feel like we’d chosen the right area. Such a great vibe here, Mike and Jo and lovely and very welcoming and friendly and it’s a proper pub. Great choice of draft beers, decent tunes playing and so excited to be calling this my local. Called on again on the following Thursday for the burger and beer night; Mike remembered us, welcomed us even more and really made us feel at welcome ❤️

We were visiting from London and we decided to have our Saturday evening meal at the Black Swan. We were a large group and we also have a dog so we chose black swan after reading the online reviews. The staff were friendly but we couldn’t order any type of bottled water and they seemed not to know what sparkling water is. There was no atmosphere in the restaurant at all even though it was a Saturday night. We waited a very long time for the food which was very disappointing. My seafood gratin seemed to have been a previously frozen mass produced food and didn’t have any tater at all. The price compared to over expensive London was very reasonable but the quality of food was disappointing.

Friendly staff and well appointed. Great kids corner and live music.

A classic "town pub". Visited this afternoon. Staff were excellent, the real ale ,"Gun Dog", was superb, and the prices very fair. Live music too. Highly recommended.

We had a lovely lunch, the food was good, and we will go back again soon.

We hadn't booked but they fitted us in we sat in the beer garden a lovely meal and very pleasant service will call again when we are down again

Booked this for a group of 13 of us some time in advance. We were welcomed when we arrived by the friendly bar staff, and then the table service team. Very friendly, helpful and nothing was a problem. Food, well everybody cleaned plates, and were all very happy with he food. Smiles all round. We would definitely return if in the area. Well done team at the black swan 👏

Lovely proper pub, staff are all very friendly making sure the dogs got treats. We went on Thursday for burger night and they were gorgeous. Top marks from us.

We stopped off for a drink after a long dog walk with my husband, cousin and his wife. Landlord popped over for a chat, what an utterly fabulous man. Young chap behind bar came out to make a fuss of the dog. Definitely going back, I think for burger Thursday!

We had a meal booked for when they opened at 12 noon so we expected a nice hot Sunday lunch but it was lukewarm. We complained and all they said was 'sorry to hear that'. Also the toilets had not been cleaned, disgusting. Told them we would not return and would definitely not recommend.

Went in with my bro and nephew,food was amazing and such good service an atmosphere,landlord ex mob and Leeds fan top fella apart from the Leeds thing,can't fault it and hope to go down again soon 10/10

Not busy but staff friendly. Had the most amazing Sunday Roast, had to try all the meats, Turkey, Pork & Beef, everything was really tasty and cooked to perfection, cauliflower cheese excellent.

Ate here on the recommendation of the local butcher. One of the best Sunday roasts we've had in a pub in years. Generous portions, beautifully cooked and delicious. We all had a pudding and they were all off the scale good too! Service team were friendly and efficient and very professional. Next time we are in the area we will definitely eat here again.

We had a fantastic meal they catered for everyone meal, for adult’s and children all freshly cooked and the staff were excellent

We recently visited the Black Swan for a large group dinner. We had a great evening, the food was amazing (I highly recommend the Brie bites and Lasagne!) and all of the staff were so attentive and very welcoming. Couldn’t recommend the Black Swan more! Thank you guys!

Came across the Black Swan when looking for somewhere for lunch as we were passing through Langport. As it was a Wednesday, their midweek roast was on the specials board, very reasonably priced. So we tried it and it was excellent! The beef arrived with potatoes, peas and a Yorkshire Pudding. We'd also ordered a cauliflower cheese side and were surprised when a further plate of veg (swede, red cabbage and carrots) arrived. I'm pleased to say that we ate the lot!

This is a gem of a pub in this beautiful town. It has a snug little area with a book exchange and comfy seats, dining area and the best Vegan/Vegetarian menu we have seen. We were spoilt for choice and in the end chose the dirty potatoes with cheese and chilli. It was a starter but plenty for both of us for lunch and really tasty and great value.

Great food and a good sized portion. I left pretty stuffed after the lasagne. Staff were friendly and helpful. Visited during the day and it was fairly quiet so can't really comment on atmosphere.

Had a superb Sunday Lunch, generous helping and lovely and hot, the staff were very attentive, couldn't fault the service or food, thankyou to Mike and his staff. Would definitely recommend 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Staff were lush food was mediocre at best… desert was a joke, Eton mess was like a sweet fruit yogurt 😂 , and my date rejected me so not my best night!

Had a table booked for 3 people for 1pm, wasn't finally seated until around 1.40pm after asking several times, and stood by a cold entrance by the bar waited 30 minutes not offered drinks, had to call to request them, took ages before anyone even took our order, food came out about 45 mins later, every meal was cold, carrots looked old and not fresh, sent it all back, waited a further 30 minutes befire the food came out a 2nd time, by which point we were leaving as we had had enough of waiting, the whole visit we were there for between 2 and a quarter to 2 and a half hrs, and left hungry, the place was freezing cold, nobody seemed to care, nobody apologised, really poor service, and food, I am 80 years old with health problems and felt totally upset by the whole experience

We visited in early December for a pre-Christmas meal with my cousins. This is my first visit to the Black Swan, I've been past many times but never had the time to visit until now. The first thing I would say is, congratulations on placing the disabled toilet right next to the entrance, so easy to find and it was so beautifully clean, should I have wanted to eat my meal from it, I'm fairly sure I would have come away unscathed. We were seated down the back, next to the kitchen and I found the staff to be very attentive and friendly. I ordered a "childs" beans and sausages, as I don't usually eat after 18:00 and as this was after 19:30 I didn't fancy much. Most restaurants don't like this as it means they are not making as much money, but here it was not a problem, so more gold stars for you guys.... The meals presented looked very good quality and by all accounts, they were indeed very tasty, my sausages, beans and chips certainly were excellent value for money. We would certainly come back to this establishment and very much look forward to finding space in my very hectic diary.

Nice little pub. Good food. Local Cider - Harry's. Menu is on a blackboard, suggesting it changes. Vegan/Veggie menu on separate, portable, blackboard - 6 choices, no risotto in sight 😋. Three dog friendly tables in dining room, so no feelings of being a social leper. Small car park and ber garden.

Called in on a recommendation from our holiday home owners , had one of the best meals we have ever had, you wouldn't be disappointed and at a fair price as well.

Decided to have my mums 90th get together with family at the Black Swan, Langport. The food was fantastic, the staff, well, they were amazing, nothing was too much trouble. If you want somewhere eat, this is the place. Thank you for making a wonderful day even better

Lovely little pub tucked away off North Street in Langport. Stopped off here for dinner after a mooch about in the Market with kids and father -in-law in tow. All ordered different meals and all enjoyed them 👍

Great Sunday lunch , found decor in main dining area a bit Bert's Café . Staff were excellent, well trained for so young.

Attended a fiftieth birthday in the function room upstairs and the catering was great. The bar upstairs wasn't open but the staff downstairs were very friendly.

5 stars , the food was perfect. Wide variety of options on the menu. Kid friendly. Old school traditional pub.

A proper pub with lovely food from a good menu, competitive prices and impeccable service. Excellent stuff, what more could you ask.

19th august 2022 Not the best meal we had there to date. Very burnt gousons so sent them back literally black no joke. Next lot came chewy and not edible so left them. Coke had just enough fizz not to make it syrup. Chicken mushroom and pepper I thought actual pepper not pepper corns as pepper corns not stated way to much pepper corn so made to add mayo to my plate to cool my mouth down. Pie pastry was burnt on edges which burnt food can take over the flavour of the pie. Shame but these things happen. Speak as you find .

Came here for a drink as we are on holiday in the area, weather is so hot but came in the evening with hubby and we had our springer with us too, I asked if they could give us some ice as the dog likes to chew on an ice cube and they did so without question. Really friendly staff so will be going again before our holiday ends 😁 came back the next day for a meal in the evening, sooooo nice, I had pie of the day chicken and mushroom it was delicious and the hubby had steak he thought it was lovely, service was excellent and would 100% recommend

Treated to lunch out with friends. Lovely roast and plenty of it.

Would be 10/10, but the owners are Leeds fans so it makes it a 2/10. However, food in there is world class. Unlike any Leeds players. Suits everyone that suffers from food allergies which gets them a 1 and the 2 is for the book collection on the left hand side. Top class.

Really relaxed environment and the staff are excellent, foods really nice and plenty of selection for all pallets. Will definitely be visiting again, and they sell rascal which is another bonus :)

Arrived at Black Swan recently and took a drink outside in the sun, the outdoor area is relaxed and a good sun trap. We came for the Burger night which was advertised and went inside for food. There were a wide range or burgers available. I had the Ostrich burger which reminded me of one of the best times in SA when I had an Ostrich steak. The flavor was amazing and was a double burger (standard apparently!). There is a choice of sauces to choose from. I had the Tzatziki sauce and for me I choose well :). Burger came with Chips and salad along with a free drink from the bar. The staff are always super nice and make us feel welcome. They have personality which is always nice to see. There was 4 of us and for 4 burgers, 2 starters, 2 deserts was about £90. Can't really go wrong with that; oh and don't forget the free drink!

Great meal for a large party. Really welcoming team and very family friendly. Would recommend a visit if you are in the area.

A quick stop for a burger and a pint. The sun was shining so we sat outside and enjoyed some unofficial guitar playing from a fellow customer. The car park is a bit small so we parked in the free car park around the corner.

We enjoyed a lovely family meal fantastic service and landlord was veery welcoming. Wish I lived closer i would use regularly as a local best of luck to the team.

Another Gem of a Pub to add to the List a Must visit. Lovely well maintained pub and Beer garden (beer garden is a wonderful sun trap) Fair priced Drinks Considering location. Carparking for about 9 Cars/Vans. Very polite staff who are also a great laugh. 100% visiting again and would Suggest anyone in Area does as well.

The Black Swan was such a lovely pub with the best customer service. I found my favourite single malt whiskey here from my special place, Oban. It brought back so much memories when I was doing my M. Sc. at SAMS. Thanks to Ted for making arrangements with his friend who owns the pub. Ps. I even left a Belizean souvenir for the owner.

Lovely real ale, comfy sofa, hoping to return to our accommodation near Langport and walk here again for some more beers perhaps in 2022.

Sadly my experience was not that positive. I was looking forward to the meal based on previous reviews, however, although starter was good it went downhill after that. Service was slow and the restaurant was only just about half full. The pork belly was undercooked with slimey fat on top, no crackling at all. The bubble and squeak was just mashed potatoes. The cider gravy was tasty. I ordered one dessert and after waiting 20mins cancelled it and left. I am so sorry to say, we won't be going back.
