Holts Arms in Wigan

Gran encuentro perfecto almuerzo del domingo. Estábamos muy contentos de poder conseguir una mesa en una tarde de domingo, el ambiente del pub era cálido y amable, el personal y el gerente / propietario eran profesionales y educados. Tuvimos un entrante cada uno y puedo recomendar la pila de pudín negro que mi compañero disfrutó y los goujones de merluza estaban perfectamente cocinados y presentados. Honestamente podemos decir que el pequeño plato de almuerzo del domingo que ambos elegimos fue el mejor almuerzo del domingo que hemos tenido en mucho tiempo al comer fuera. La mayoría de las mesas estaban reservadas y lo mejor sería hacerlo especialmente si es una gran fiesta, Este fue un gran hallazgo para nosotros y el pub tiene un gran jardín de cerveza al aire libre y un entorno encantador ideal para la familia. Gracias Holt Arms estaremos de vuelta y sabremos reservar con antelación.

La comida era increíble. Buenas porciones y buena calidad. Servicio del personal del bar también bueno. Las normas de gestión/propietario no se ajustaban a las del personal. No vayas en una noche de fin de semana. Se pide a los clientes que pagan buen dinero que se vayan a las 10 pm, mientras que a los amigos del propietario / gerente se les permite quedarse por un bloqueo ilegal. El gerente / propietario incluso se rió de nosotros cuando nos íbamos después de cuestionar esto.

My wife and i went to holts arms at Billinge. 1/2/2025. we both had ribeye steak with peppercorn sauce. would highly recommend it. Staff pleasant and very helpful. Pub clean and very good atmosphere the steak cooked to perfection. quick service. great place.

Great pub with an awesome beer garden

Precioso pub tradicional acogedor. Reservamos una mesa y llegamos un poco temprano, bienvenida amable por la camarera que me mostró a mi mesa y me dio algunos menús, ella volvió dentro de 5 minutos y me preguntó si me gustaría pasar a una mesa más cerca del fuego, aceptó y mi amigo y yo pedimos el Steak and ale pastel, (era noche de pastel ! ) se sirvió caliente y delicioso relleno de un montón de carne de calidad, patatas fritas , guisantes mushy y salsa, también incluía una bebida cada uno. Tuvimos una gran noche en un ambiente cálido y relajante con un personal amable, no puedo culparlo.

Excellent pub, good beer, nice all weather beer garden, but a little prcey

Can only comment on the proper chips, baileys hot chocolate and the service but all three were spot on! Proper pub hand cut chips - amazing sized portions Bailey Hot chocolates were lush just what I needed after a day without power And the service, the two ladies and one gent behind the bar were very accommodating of me needing to charge my devices, really lovely quick service. All in all, would return as the bill was a lot less than I thought it would be! Great prices

Best fish and chips in Wigan/ St Helen’s

The Holts Arms is fairly local to us. A traditional pub restaurant with a reasonable size car park. It's a good choice for eating or dropping in just for a drink. The menu is quite varied with some common favourites, including battered cod and homemade chips, to homemade burgers and steaks. Unfortunately, the steak wasn't available on our last visit, so we had grilled chicken skewers on nan (gluten-free), which was well prepared and full of flavour. The staff (and cook) went out of their way to accommodate a gluten-free option for myself. If you are coeliac then this pub is listed as gluten friendly rather than certified gluten free so they will prepare dishes with gluten free ingredients but it's prepared in the same kitchen as gluten containing food, so no guarantees, but I was absolutely fine with this arrangement. Recommended.

Great food friendly staff and a warm welcome

This was our 1st visit but it certainly won't be our last. We visited on a very busy Saturday but we were quickly found a table. Food was delicious, staff very helpful and great atmosphere. Can't wait to return.

Love having this pub on our doorstep. Can’t beat a good dog walk and then a few pints in the foot. Another lovely afternoon, our dog drags us in for a pigs ear and a fuss every time, very dog friendly pub.

También había un mercado de invierno, así que tuvimos una tarde maravillosa paseando entre los puestos y conociendo a la gente que los dirigía. Sin duda recomendaría The Holt y lo volveremos a visitar!

Visited 15th November with my dog, sat in the bar area and had food. Food was delicious and reasonably priced. Was asked to leave due to 'complaints about my dog barking'. He wasn't barking constantly, just the occasional woof as someone walked past the table (he's a 7 month old puppy). Spent a lot of money to be asked to leave immediately after we'd finished our meal. If customers aren't OK with an occasional woof, maybe they should be the ones asked to leave considering you advertise your pub as 'dog friendly'. Won't be returning.

Llegamos a los 2 minutos a las 2 pm ( comida anunciada 12 - 2 ) después de haber caminado 2 millas. Le pregunté si nos servirían un bocadillo, pero el chef se negó. No estaba ocupado y estábamos muy decepcionados con la falta de respuesta.

Thought the Sunday lunch was over priced

Lovely evening spent in the Holts Arms celebrating my friends 50th birthday. Attentive staff, cosy atmosphere, great menu selection. I enjoyed the smaller portion of fish and chips, very generous portions . Very tasty homemade food. Definitely 100% recommend

We held a family party at The Holts Arms recently. They where amazing Lucie and the team Where brilliant. Food was fantastic and one of our guests said “ that was the best steak he’d ever had”. Great pub with a great team running it… family friendly too!

Never disappointed when I come here

‘On the website states open till 10pm’ Me and my friend arrived just before 7:30pm and were told the kitchen closed in 5 minutes. We chose our meals off the midweek special menu 2 for £28 ordering just in time. Our food was served to our table quickly. The portion sizes were ample and the food was delicious but we felt we were being rushed all the time by the waitress. She asked did we want anything else at 8:45pm mentioning they were closing in 1/2 an hour! We both ordered coffees but still had wine to finish. She came over again just after 9pm to ask if we wanted a sweet and we said no. She had previously taken our plates and on this occasion took our wine glasses and our coffee cups, we felt we were being ushered out so we got up and paid. My friend still had wine in her glass which I had not noticed but she mentioned it when we were outside. The pub closed after we left at around 9:15pm. The food was lovely but we it did feel like we were an inconvenience and they wanted us to eat and leave quickly. We had checked before we had planned to go that evening the opening times and it does state open till 10pm

Lovely olde world pub with good food, lovely ales and grand staff.

Excellent food some unusual dishes. Staff very helpful nothing too much trouble. Definitely recommend but you need to book at the weekends as it can get quite busy.

Why do close at 10pm on a Friday night ? And to make thing worse you put people under pressure to drink up at 9.30 and get out. The date was Friday the 27th of June and your staff were going round the tables numerous times advising people to drink up as they were closing at 10pm The continued approach of the staff made people feel uncomfortable and under pressure to leave. Maybe you need to consult your staff.

Went for lunch with 4 adults and 2 dogs on a quiet Thursday afternoon, we purposely chose this time of day as it would be quieter for the dogs. At the end of the meal another customer approached our young dog which startled him and caused him to bark a few times (he was excitably barking whilst being made a fuss of by the gentleman). We were in the process of getting up to leave and one of the staff came over to tell us that we had to “try and stop the dog from barking because people are trying to eat.” Felt unnecessary and rude given that the dogs had been there for over an hour without making a sound and the pub markets itself as being dog friendly. This interaction ruined an otherwise pleasant afternoon. I will not be returning as they’re clearly not dog friendly.

Haven’t visited this pub in a few years and wasn’t disappointed. Still great food and attentive staff. The beer garden seemed much bigger than I remembered with a lawned area and a huge patio with a covered area called the Stable. At weekends pizza is freshly made and served in the garden. I spent a couple of days near here, walking with the dog on many of the footpaths which offer amazing views over the surrounding area. A good choice of real ales were on offer as well as an excellent varied menu. There are two menus - one for outside food service and the other for indoor eating. I tried the Cod goujon tacos one night and what a delight to the tastebuds, highly recommended! The next night I tried the salmon in sweet chilli and soy sauce with rice, again another great dish. This pub hasn’t lost any of its charm or appeal since I last visited and cannot wait to be in the area again. Dog friendly.

This was our first time at the Holts Arms and we were not disappointed. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the Sunday Roast and dessert was divine. The sunshine was on our side and so we were able to enjoy the outside area. Thank You for a fab experience, we will definitely be back.

We did not have a good experience at The Holt went for lunch on Saturday 15th June 2024 the first table we were given was at the side of the bar with many people going backwards and forwards, not an ideal place to have a table for people wishing to dine. We asked if it was possible to be given another table which was given without any problem. It was bad as the first. We had to contend with such noise from fellow dinner's so much so we could not hear our conversation at our table. The service was very good waiting staff very polite, The food was excellent no problem there. It said that the pub had been refurbished they had not done a very good job it was looking tired the entrance was not very inviting needed a clean up outside. On the photos it looked like a nice country pub which it was not. Will not be returning.

The Holts Arms, or The Foot, as locals call it, is a great spot for elevated pub grub and a pint against a classic English backdrop. The food is always delicious and changes seasonally to reflect the excellent produce and flavours of the local region. The staff are always friendly, professional, and excellent at their jobs. The pub is great for all seasons, feeling cosy and intimate in the winter while having a gorgeous beer garden and pizza oven for the warmer months. The Foot is a great spot for delicious food and a great atmosphere.

We haven't been here for a while after a very negative experience, however we had to wait around the area for a few hours so we decided to give it another try. Hubby ordered fish and chips which was just OK. I ordered loaded fries absolutely awful there was a very sweet taste to the whole dish. The waitress came to clear our table, she didn't ask about my full plate so I told her about my experience she said something which I didn't catch anyway nobody can to talk to us, so I told the other girl behind the bar she apologised and asked if there was anything she could do, but we were on our way out at that point, suffice to say we won't be going back.

I love this place. Don't come often enough but each time I do the food is lovely. In the nice weather we sit outside with the dogs. Today was inside and no dogs with me just my nephew and felt comfortable and welcomed. Didn't realise they have food for the dogs so will also be coming back so they can eat with us next time we call in.

I've lived in Wigan for almost 40 years and never been in the Holt Arms before! What have I been missing? It's a beautiful little pub that dates back to 1721. It has all the expected charm of a good British country pub, with higgledy piggildy rooms bursting with character. The staff were lovely and helpful, the food was, [to quote Craig Revel Horwood] A-MAZE-ING. And as Arnie said I'LL BE BACK.

We are a walking group and not familiar with the area . We booked a side room with 4 tables. The roast dinner was absolutely fabulous , the best I’ve had in a pub . Lovely cosy pub, perfect for after a long walk

Took the in-laws for a Sunday lunch as part of their Xmas gift. Lovely food and you could order from the normal menu too, which was perfect for the vegetarian in our group. Only down side was it was a little chilly in there, but it hadn’t long opened its doors for the day so I imagine a few hours later would have been lovely and toasty

We were looking for a roast dinner that wasn’t too fancy, good portion size and had all the trimmings. After asking around a bit, a few people recommended The Holts Arms and it didn’t disappoint. We had to travel a fair way from Lowton but we will definitely go again. We had the standard beef roast dinner with a sticky toffee pudding and chocolate fudge cake for dessert, a pint of moretti and a Coke Zero - cost £55. Fair price for the meal size and the standard. Would definitely recommend. The only thing we’d change is the stuffing to a roasted stuffing ball and the carrots. Great service too.

We've had the most wonderful family Christmas today with such fabulous caring staff. We do Christmas with the family before we go away for winter to warmer climates. They deserve such recognition for the caring thoughtful way they help large groups. We all loved it thankyou so much

I came here with friends for a few drinks and a bite to eat. It was lovely homemade food. The choice of alea was pretty decent too. The staff were all friendly and accommodating, and went out of their way to ensure that we had a good night. We will be going again!

Came here on a recommendation and was not disappointed, had the Really Dirty Fries which were fantastic. The staff are friendly, will definitely be visiting again lots more on the menu that I want to try. Definitely worth visiting

There's an friendly atmosphere here every time we visit. There's always plenty of quality drinks and a variety to suit everyone's taste. The food is always tatsy and presented well. There's something for everyone on the menu and look at the dirty fries! 😍

Go to The Foot quite a bit. The food is outstanding and the staff are very friendly. We do go for just a drink sometimes, it is very cosy and although prices are more than most locals, it's worth the extra.

A delightful old country pub with a lovely garden to the rear. Very smart and clean, this pub provides a good selection of draught beers and really good pub food. The meals are very substantial, well cooked and presented and you will NOT come away hungry! This was our first visit to this pub and it certainly won't matter our last. A great find.

Best pub in the area we love it

The first time and the last time the food was poor there was more dogs than people like dogs but not in a restauran👎your chips were all scraps your pie was like mush in pastry the good bit was the way out
