Holly Bush Inn in South Derbyshire

We love this place and come here regularly. First time ever I wasn't happy. The sausage meal was tasty but the veg were dire. Grossly overcooked tiny bits of carrot a few gratings of red cabbage and the tiniest bit of broccoli that would have been more appropriate for a toddler trying new foods!

It’s been a while since we’ve visited the Holly Bush. As we were staying in the area we paid a return visit and were not disappointed. Beautiful pub food at very reasonable prices. Portions are generous and the food is fresh and tasty. How I wish I had this as a local where I live

Five of us had dinner here for two evenings one of my friends is disabled after a serious RTC losing the lower part of a leg, sometimes this can be a problem due to lack of space but not here. We tried various dishes over the two nights, I had soup Asparagus & watercress followed by a beautifully cooked steak with the trimmings the first evening. The second evening Schezwan beef strips in sauce followed by Dansak Chicken absolutely gorgeous, my friends meals were equally as good compliments to the chef. Bar staff and the young lady who was the server (sorry missed your name) who was very patient, there's always one that cannot make up their mind! Bar staff were very nice too. Advice to anyone going for dinner go hungry, portions are really good.

What a lovely discovery ! We started with drinks in the garden, which has a covered area with a lot less midges than if we were on the grass side. We were advised that food is only served indoors so we moved inside, where you can find about 3-4 different areas to pick from. The staff were very kind and professional, and our food came quickly. I had the Szechuan Crispy Beef, served with rice and crispy seaweed. It was gorgeous, and well flavoured. Definitely want to return and try other dishes. Dogs are welcome inside and water is provided for them. Reusable napkins were a lovely surprise as well! Thank you. My only “ick” is that the product used to clean tables makes them sticky. I know they are clean because I’ve seen the staff clean tables as soon as people leave, which is why I’m guessing it’s not their fault.

Just had, yet another, delicious lunch at The Holly Bush in Church Broughton. In over 5 years I can honestly say we have never been disappointed...and for one of those years we actually lived next door and visited often. The menu is varied and imaginative with lovely home made dishes; the food is delicious; the pub itself is comfortable and welcoming with a generous garden. So if you happen to be up this way...south Derbyshire...xx

I'm not from these parts however needed to find somewhere to refuel with vittles. A couple of hand pulled beers on the bar plus all the usual gas infused ones. Excellent food menus, a snack one, an a la carte and a blackboard full of specials. I chose the burger and lovely it was with lots of sides. With a plentiful cheese board to follow. Just over £20. I would highly recommend this pub. The staff were attentive and professional

Went with my friend and her daughter for lunch and had a really tasty homemade beef burger with skinny fries and coleslaw. Prompt and friendly service and nice atmosphere - quite busy for a midweek lunchtime. Hoping to come soon for a Sunday lunch although they did warn us its best to book well in advance as they get very busy

This is a great pub with really good food from a broad menu. There is an older section around the fire near the bar (for drinking or eating) and a newer (decoration wise) larger room too. All the food is freshly prepared with novel dishes....

Just been for a Sunday roast and it was the best I have ever had. Good portions and great service. Would eat there every Sunday if I could. Also been on a Sunday eve for quiz and curry night which I can definitely recommend.

We called into the pub for the first time last Sunday lunch-time and after confirming there was space [The popularity means it gets full] .enjoyed an excellent roast dinner followed by nice desserts.My roast beef was perfect and accompanied with perfectly cooked roast & new potatoes and a selection of fresh vegetables.

Excellent food enjoyed by all in our party. However, less than impressed with the customer service experienced from the landlady. On arrival she could clearly see that we were getting a disabled man out of the car so parked to get him out before pulling fully into the parking bay, only to be told that we had to pull in, clearly obvious that we were going to do that. Once inside she asked if she could get us any drinks as we were still walking in, this did not create a relaxed atmosphere. The pub has a lovely atmosphere and serves delicious food,so why does the landlady not smile and be more friendly?

Just had the loin of ling with tempura king prawns boiled rice and red Thai curry sauce. Just to die for. The best fish dish ever! Matts food never disappoints. How lucky to have this pub as our local.

We booked a table for six to celebrate a family event. We were made very welcome by everyone we had contact with, the staff were very friendly and the beer excellent.

Quaint old English village pub with fantastically tasty restaurant food. Visited for an midweek evening meal of six adults - we were the only diners, but why? The food was brilliant, superb size portions, all well cooked and lovingly presented. Staff were attentive and very helpful, even with a couple of demanding and indecisive diners in our party! Allergies were well catered for from an promoted perspective rather than having to ask and dishes having to be checked with the chef.

We were booked in to eat here by the owners of our weekend cottage in the countryside. Wow! What a lovely surprise. We were welcomed into the bar where we orders our drinks and looked at the menu. After having our orders taken we had a shirt wait and then were shown to our table in the restaurant. It was not busy and the service was very good. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. A great meal. Thoroughly enjoyed.

off the cuff visit to this beautiful inn, our first time visiting and not disappointed, lovely rustic bar, we had a meal which was delicious, Staffordshire oatcakes, for starters, and a shuzchan chilli beef main, food was served quickly and staff good, although more smiles would be nice however this didn't retract from the very enjoyable evening- and will look again to visit for Sunday lunch- well worth a visit very reasonable priced too

Made very welcome,table ready .We were a party of 9 with very diverse 'needs' that were wholly accomodated by a very busy staff . They were efficient and pleasant.The food was ,as usual, excellent .It was presented nicely and is excellent value for money.Of the 9 people present ,everyone thoroughly enjoyed their Hollybush experience.

Incredible food, where to start. We had a group of 20 people visit for a 40th birthday party. The place has a lovely atmosphere, be arrived on a cold evening to a snug bar and cosy fire to relax by with a few tipples while we waited for our meal.

Fascinating place where to enjoy your beer in front of a fireplace. Three different and wonderful open fires.

A group of twelve go eat here every year and we have never been disapointed, great value for money, lovely country atmosphere and they always have some great ales. I would highly recommend The Holly Bush

Came here as we stay in the area regularly and usually come for lunch, which is always very nice, but as it was our wedding anniversary, we decided on an evening meal. We always find the pub to be very welcoming and friendly. There were 2 waitresses, the one being more friendly than the other. As vegetarians, we were limited to the few choices they had on offer. We had starters and a main each. My husband said his soup starter was very nice, but my goats cheese starter was bland and appeared to be straight out the freezer pre-made rubbish. We both opted for the mushroom stroganoff, which again, must be brought in, because if the chef or who ever buys it in tasted it, they would realise it was too acidic and vinegary tasting. Not appealing at all. We really didn't enjoy it and there was no point in sending it back as that was all they had on the menu that we would have enjoyed. This is a super village pub, maybe we were just unlucky that night, because as I said, our food is usually lovely. But as a result of our experience, when we were hoping for a 'special night' I don't think we would come here for an evening meal again.

Cosy pub. Good service. Lots of menu choices. Plenty of veg and good portion sizes. Would recommend the squid tempura starter and the haddock in batter. Curry also excellent. Will definitely return.

Eaten here on a Saturday lunchtime many times and the food has always been delicious and satisfying. I would recommend calling in if you are passing.

We have just moved to the area so thought we should visit the local pub to see what it was like and also we wanted to test it before my parents were due to arrive the following weekend and the plan was if it was great we would take them there. It was great! The food was amazing, I've been to some top quality restaurants and the food here was equal, brilliant, faultless. Both my hubby and I loved our starter, main and dessert. The service was a little slow at times but we were in no rush. The pub was quiet when we arrive which was early evening but the bar area (separate to the restaurant area) was heaving when we left. Had to pay at the bar instead of at the table but that was no issue. We had decided this was a fab place to bring mum and dad but were advised we couldn't book a table as there was a party the following weekend, disappointed but means mum and dad have to come again so we can let the experience the amazing food.

Nos encantó la comida, muy bien cocinada y presentada con generosas porciones, en encantador pub del viejo mundo. Algunos artículos muy interesantes en el menú, todo hecho con estilo e imaginación. Lo recomiendo totalmente.

Reservamos una mesa en un viernes por la noche para la familia. Todos tuvimos una marcha y plato principal. La comida era muy agradable y bien presentado. Recomiendo una visita. Sin duda volveremos.

we thoroughly enjoyed the international seafood evening last night-11 different sea food experiences-some i had never tried before-all well cooked and tasty-exceptional value for the evening -bit full at the end of the evening but hey ho!!!!!

Just back from a fabulous evening at our local more-than-a-pub after a nine course seafood tasting menu. Absolutely superb and great great value. Said it before and say it again - so lucky to have this place as our local. Great value well above average restaurant quality in our pub!

A fabulous place for a group of friends or a family x The lodges are beautifully furnished with every home comfort x There is TV in every bedroom x 4 good sized bedrooms and handy for disabled as the master bedroom has a wet room with fantastic shower en suite x The hot tub was great for relaxing and having a giggle x Vwey well equipped lodges with every thing you would need x So glad we came in March as we could take advantage of the wood stove x recommend to everyone to visit here

We have just had an early Christmas meal at The Hollybush on Sunday as we are going away for Christmas.There was 11 of us.We had pre ordered off the Christmas menu and we were not disappointed.Some had the butternut squash soup which was delicious and I has the goats cheese pancakes & I also tried some of the prawns for our starters which were all lovely.Most of us had turkey which melted in the mouth with all the trimmings,2 of our guest had the lamb and I had food envy because it looked and they said it was delicious.My daughter had the salmon which was also cooked to perfection.We finished off with a homemade cookie & icecream & some had Christmas pudding which again was truly scrumptious.My family all had an excellent time and will definitely be retuning to The Hollybush soon.Compliments to Matt the chef/landlord.Joanne

We are lucky enough to live down the road from this fantastic pub and had another great meal here recently. I chose the curry which was a rogan josh having tried their curries before and it was superb. Gem of a place!

We called in for evening meal for my nieces birthday we were staying nearby so it was on the off chance that we dropped in, we were pleasantly surprised by the lovely staff and service we were given. Took my elderly mum for lunch today for her birthday with my family. We all had an excellent meal. Best gammon my mum has tasted. A good sized portion and she managed it most of it. Nicely served anf food hot. Lovely country pub.

Went without booking 3 adults and child and ate in bar area. Very nice sunday lunch. Would like to see little sunday lunches for children on sundays i.e a yorkshire pudding portion meat some roast potatoes instead of just kids standard meals. Would happily pay 4 or 5 pounds for that. Place was busy. We also went week before just 2 adults one fish finger sandwich and a steak pie oth were very good. Possibly not the cheeriest place but good service all the same. Will go back. Meals looked lovely that we saw for others too.

We live locally and me and my girlfriend have been coming the holly bush for a few years now! Every time we visit the food surpasses our expectations and I go home raving about it. The food is unbelievable, fresh and tasty. The service is great and overall just a really nice place to spend an evening! The specials board is always a joy to read! Called in for a midweek meal. Service was good but considering it was relatively quiet, we did have to wait sometime for the meal. Food was good - portions extremely generous. The enchilada meal would easily feed two people. Pedigree beer excellent!Acid test - will we return? Probably.....

Everthing a country inn should be. Warm greeting, well kept bitter and an interesting extra menu on the blackboard. We had piping hot King Prawns served in a mini frying pan followed by Cod Loin with new potatoes and mixed vegetable. Delicious food at affordable price. We will be back.

Excellent for families both in the bar early doors and for food. The menu is varied and very good. There's an excellent specials board and the Sunday lunch is fantastic. Very lucky to have this round the corner but I could recommend travelling to try the fantastic food
