Opinions
Decent hotel just outside the main city centre. Really close to the M5 and A419 links. Stayed here previously and returned as always been my go to place to stay in Gloucester.

Arrived Thursday evening 13/02 with my Husband and baby for our 3 night stay and were greeted by Charmaine on reception. She explained that the family room (ground floor) we had booked would be unavailable due to heating issues and we would need to be relocated to the first floor and pointed at the stairs, we said okay - no worries, Where is the lift? ‘No lift’ she snapped. Looking at our bags and pram I explained that the staircase she is pointing at would be difficult which again she snapped ‘there is no lift’. My husband went on to say we have a pram and before he had a chance to finish what he was saying she quipped ‘I CAN see that’. We both asked her if there was an issue as her attitude was appalling to which her reply was ‘I am sorry YOU took it that way’. The room was nice and spacious with a super king bed and a fold out single sofa bed. Our booking specified we would be travelling with a baby under 1 and upon booking this room online the picture showed either the single sofa bed or travel cot. Neither of us were keen to phone reception after the encounter we previously had. The tv allows you to stream your own apps to watch, Netflix, half way through watching something someone else in the hotel managed to connect to our tv and play their Netflix. This happened a few times before they must have realised their mistake. Also in the room was a leaflet on alternative pillows. After a couple of poor nights sleep my husband called reception on Saturday evening and asked for a different pillow, he offered to collect it from reception but was told that someone would be up in 5 to 10 minutes with one. This pillow never arrived. Cannot fault the facilities at the hotel but the staff and the service let it down. This was our second visit to the Holiday Inn Cheltenham and will definitely be our last.

Cannot deny, expectations were low. Work trip. However, food was fresh, tasty, chips were crispy, gym was much better than the photos. Room was clean. I’d come back with my family.

This place gave me a parking ticket for picking up my friend from the hotel. Do not go there unless you are staying there and have been at their reception. They don't help when you have been incorrectly charged. They have sold their own car park to a scummy parking company, who fleese you as a business model! There is nothing around there. No reason to park there unless you are visiting the hotel. Terrible customer service about this issue, just shrug of shoulders nothing we can do! I know dont stay there! Sell outs- sell your own car park, how helpful is that to your actual customers. Being a hotelier isn't what it was.

Absolutely breathtaking! I had a wonderful time here, though I only stayed for one night and didn’t get a chance to explore everything. I would 100% return. My mum loved it as well and hasn’t stopped raving about how amazing our stay was. She used the pool and described it as beautiful and impeccably clean.

Room was fine. Toilet was faulty. On arrival there were two staff members on reception. One was dealing with a customer. The other was free (looking at her pc). I approached and was ignored for 5mins then she eventually said 'I'm logging on' then ignored me again (she walked away) until the other lady became available. Be warned the drink prices are high (2 large glasses of Shiraz =£33!!). The cheapest wine was £9 a glass). I've paid less for better in Central London. Then I tried to pay for some crisps with cash but told they only accept the right money. I mentioned all of this on checkout and was offered additional points but never got them despite completing feedback and exchanging emails with customer service twice - a brief apology then no further answer when I asked about my points! The customer service here is appalling! I have stayed literally 100s of nights with IHG on Business - I am a Diamond member, and they are usually good, but this is my worst experience ever. AVOID!! AVOID!! AVOID!! I plant to write to Head Office.

Hi. The service is really the only problem. First night, my partner checked in I was at the car. When I came in girl at the reception desk wouldn't tell me what room I was in.kept going on about GDPR. I'm paying and she won't tell me what room I'm in. Second night, my partner has an allergy, chef refused to serve her until she signed something essentially giving up her legal right to not be poisoned. Essentially taking responsibility away from the chefs and the company. So what this is, legal ass covering at the expense of service customers have paid for and are entitled to. Postscript, don't ever sign one of those allergens waivers they should be illegal. It's basically giving them permission to poison you. Worst thing is the girl with the horrible attitude is the manager 😮. Holiday inn express in Quedgeley is cheaper and you get customer service. Actually kinda nice people.

As another reviewer just said below, be on your guard. They use Parking Eye - could easily get a £100 parking fine or more. Awful system. The air-conditioning in my room was broken when I stayed, it was super hot in the room. I called reception, but no one answered. Extremely disappointed.

All fine except a possible language barrier. Had to visit reception to check times of a pre booked conference room. A few minutes later another group claimed to have booked the same room at crossover times. It was clear English was not the first language of the staff on duty as our written confirmation of times agreed with what the staff saw and confirmed to me but minutes later booked in another group. Also, as a very long standing PC / IHG member I have stayed hat various member hotels around the world and never before been refused the use of the bar and lounge area to consume room service drinks after hours. It seemed very odd at the time. Would love feedback on whether this is the new normal or something peculiar to this venue.

We had booked an F1 weekend with Caledonian Travel so didn't know where we were staying until a couple of days beforehand. We also had a set menu and didn't know what that was until we arrived at 9pm. I was with a family member who has certain dietary preferences that weren't on the menu. We asked and it was sorted in minutes with no fuss and with smiles. Different nights, different staff - same result

We had to stay in Gloucester last-minute due to a late night discharge from A&E. When being collected the next day Holiday Inn sneakily charged us for parking. There is no obvious signage about parking charges and now we have a huge penalty to pay.

Had to visit hotel for an appointment. On arrival I parked in car park, visited reception to ask where my appointment was, and left 20 minutes later. Booking car in was not mentioned and I saw no signs. Received a car parking charge for £100 a week later. Absolutely ridiculous policy and charge amount. You can be there that long picking someone up!

As much as it is a lovely hotel and well maintained.. the expenses of food and drink is ridiculous.. £4.50 for garlic bread which comes as 2 slices.. and £4.50 for skin on fries that came in a tiny little bucket. I think this should be viewed and reconsidered.

Driving towards the hotel was nice, looking very grand and pretty too. Car parking has a lot of spaces, and the hotel inside looked fabulous. It was well looked after. Was able to check in early, which was great, Laura checked me in and had some trouble with my booking, but she managed to sort it out. Was recognised as a gold elite member for IHG also. She had a fun, bubbly, and professional manner, super friendly service. Amazing room, restaurant, and bar. Checked out the spa area but didn't use it, so maybe next time I stay. It's also pet friendly, it's a really fantastic hotel and I'd stay again. Everything was amazing. Brilliant first time stay.

The main reason for the poor review is the exorbitant parking charge of £10 it’s well away from the city centre so unsure why you feel the need to charge guests Perhaps it’s because you are so overstaffed and need to pay all those wages ? 10:30pm and 2 bar staff and one bar manager in an empty bar. The check in man was nice and offered myself and my work colleague a drink foc because we looked like we had had a long day. My room although very nice was cold even with the heating on and took ages to warm up. It took me over an hour to go to sleep due to this. Breakfast - for £12 (£17if you walk up) id expect more quality and more choice. Black pudding not there , no hash browns, cheap sausages and the SALT on particularly the mushrooms made it inedible. On the cold side only ham or cheese no other deli things, no salmon etc that I come to expect at holiday inn. And again - 4 staff and one manager on at breakfast so plenty of chatting between staff members and not much work going on! On the way out one girl did thank us for coming and wished us a nice day but she was leant against the stand whilst she did so.

Stayed at the hotel on a day use basis. Spent a decent amount on drinks and lunch with my six year old daughter. Then received a parking charge notice a few days later from ‘Parkingeye’ who apparently “manage” the car park. I called the hotel reception to ask what was going on. Apparently there are “signs everywhere” telling people to enter their reg number into some machine. “Why don’t you just take registration numbers when guests check in?” I asked. To which the receptionist’s response was to hang up the phone. I eventually got back through to the same receptionist and the charge was cancelled, but this is half an hour of my life I won’t be getting back, and all for what? So that a supposedly reputable hotel group can try to stitch up its paying customers? Well, it’s a ‘no thanks’ from me. I will be avoiding all Holiday Inn and IHG properties in future.

We stayed here on Tues 30th Jan for 1 night in room 130. The shower had hardly any power and the toilet barely flushed! We went down for breakfast and had to wait until Ellie had finished chatting to her colleague before coming over to us, even though she had seen us arrive. There was no smile or good morning or even eye contact! She just took our room number and then we had to ask her where we sit! She is very young and I can only presume that she has not been given adequate training which is really bad for such a big hotel chain like The Holiday Inn! Not a very good experience overall and the location is terrible. Nowhere to go unless you drive as the hotel in middle of an industrial park.

I'm reviewing the Restaurant that's on site. No cash only card payments and no signs to let customers know before they order, next I ordered soup and asked if it's homemade or brought in, they said its made here and when it arrived it was VILE, tasted WEIRD and like a soup from the carton packet, I didn't eat it...Calamari came without lemon as it actually should be and promised on the menu so when I asked for the old lady with short hair and glasses who works there for salt pepper and then lemon she barked at me with angry voice "What's the matter?!?!" can you imagine??? She has some serious attitude problems and if you hate what you do, don't like to serve people and don't even want to do it properly why to bother to come in???? Why to ruin peoples experience? Also I was sitting at the DIRTY STICKY table from previous guests and it was absolutely DISGUSTING and UNHYGIENIC. GET A GRIP!!! PS I didn't eat Calamari either as it was BLAND and bit undone. Sauce was quite acidity too and low quality. And Bruschetta came 1 small slice of bread with bland mushrooms and it was meant to be garlic (very confusing cooking skills) and it was £7,50 🤣 1 SMALL slice of bread for £7,50🤣 I couldn't believe it when it came through...I won't be eating here again sorry I can't!!!

Booked dinner here one evening while we were staying in the town last week. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was very good too. They also do cocktails and the barman Nick was very good. If you have any special dietary requirements I'd always advise calling ahead of visiting and I'm sure they would be able to help/advise.
