The Med in Gloucester

Booked dinner here one evening while we were staying in the town last week. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the food was very good too. They also do cocktails and the barman Nick was very good. If you have any special dietary requirements I'd always advise calling ahead of visiting and I'm sure they would be able to help/advise.

Waited an hour after ordering to receive our food when it came it wasn’t authentic. Asked waiter before ordering if my ‘gammas pil pil’ were shelled and he said yes. When they arrived they had their shells on! Gambas pil pil is gambas oil loads of garlic and chilli flakes. Period! This ridiculous dish had no garlic, no salt, no chilli and drenched in a tomato sauce!! Laughable! The croquettas were tasteless deep fried and not fresh. Obviously pre made and from a frozen packet they were perfectly oblong in shape! Had to ask for a finger bowl for my partner and it didn’t have a lemon in as it should have had. I did not eat my portion of gambas but still charged! When we asked for bill waiter asked how it was. When we explained about the question I asked to waiter about the shelled prawns his reply was that he was young and did not know what that meant!! TRAIN THEM TO KNOW! I know what Spanish tapas should taste like. I am Spanish the least your food should have been like is authentic. The service was absolutely disgusting! By the way we had booked a table prior! Will not be coming back!!

We celebrated our wedding anniversary here and had an absolutely gorgeous meal. The menu has a great range of choices and we really enjoyed everything we ate. We started with the dip platter which came with enough pitta bread (which is sadly unusual), and then I had a steak whilst my wife had the Paella. We chose a white Rioja which was really nice. The only slight downside was the waiting staff didn't seem that confident or knowledgeable about the menu, so when our dips arrived they were just placed down with no explanation as to what they were. They also couldn't decide whether to leave our wine glasses or not, first they removed them when we ordered pre-dinner drinks, then they brought them back when they heard us order wine, then they were removed again only to be brought back with the wine. Given the pricing of the restaurant I'd expect slightly more competent service. Neither is a big point or even very important, but it mismatched with the pricing.

Chose this place based on the shade it provided and glad I did. Best calamari I've ever had and really delicious pasta. Priced nicely and very good and swift service. Will definitely go back.

Went with 8 others for a nice meal and drinks... food was outstanding, bar staff were great too! However the owner was happy to belittle the young waitress who was very new and training, in front of us!! Snatched plates off her and told her to leave it to him after shoving her out the way!! When confronted about his appalling attitude towards her in front of customers he told me he that had been in the trade 15 years and he knows best. Terrible shame as the food was good. Will never visit again. Rude arrogant owners make it a crying shame

Went for lunch with friends and two toddlers. Service was okay but not great. We were only ones in the restaurant at the time we went so not much of an atmosphere. Thought the menu was very overpriced for what it was so probably wont be back

We visited this restaurant whilst staying in Gloucester Beautiful setting , friendly staff and a varied menu. We had a selection of tapas which was beautifully cooked and well presented.

We were visiting during Gloucester Tall ships and town was manic, but as we stepped inside The Med we were warmly welcomed by the team and quickly shown to our table by the window with a cracking view of the event. It was surprisingly quiet inside but this didn't dampen the staff's enthusiasm and passion for the food. We ordered the Muhammara to come alongside the main, kebab platter for 2 which comes with a kebab each to try, roasted veges, flatbreads, and 2 sides which we choose fries and salad. It also came with two dips, a yogurt one and a spicy vinegar one which is making me salivate just remembering it! The food was full of flavour and cooked to perfection. Can't argue at the price either, as with half a lager and a ginger beer it all came to £48…! Toilets are very clean, ramp down for less abled. Huge venue but still cosy. Great outdoor space too for those hot days.

We were in Gloucester for the Tall Ships today and came across this restaurant and what a find. Superb ambience and this along with delicious food and professional and polite staff, special mention to Aiva. Highly recommend and look forward to our next visit to the Quays

We went there with family, gentleman with the glasses was rude to us we didn't fell welcome othere there . That was the first time when we were there and for sure the last time. I'm not gonna recommend to any of my friend this place. To be fair, after today - doesn't exist for me... waste of time and money for bad treating customers.... you can go to many different restaurant in Gloucester and they will treat you well. ridiculous behavior! don't recommend

Very friendly staff and very helpful for our sudden request for 16 people to celebrate a work colleague’s leaving “do”. The food was excellent and the restaurant is so nice and spacious , lovely setting .

A few tables were scattered under large parasol style covers that were unfortunately not waterproof. Calamari was still frozen. Chicken skewers RAW. Luckily I noticed that they looked extremely plain and barely white. Upon cutting a few pieces open, I found completely raw flesh. Abysmal. Main - Lamb skewers, although you wouldn’t recognise what it was from the taste. Wet, luke-warm leathery bites with no seasoning. Spicy rice in fact not spicy, just cold.Dessert - I had barely eaten anything by this point and couldn’t stomach the thought of eating anything else here yet as we were so hungry decided to order churros. We thought “They can’t go wrong with those” Mistaken. Rock hard & snapped like a breadstick. No filling. Unbelievable.The “manager”I am unsure what restaurant experience he has but he doesn’t appear to have any at all. Extremely unprofessional, inappropriate and defensive - despite the state of the food being absolutely indefensible. Disgraceful attitude. He then had the nerve to ask if we were leaving a tip when paying the bill. It’s a shame I didn’t check the reviews before visiting as it appears many others have had the same experience. Upon speaking to friends who have also eaten here, they too have had similar experiences. I have reported the restaurant to the food standards agency due to repeatedly being served raw meat & fish. I dread to think what the hygiene standards are like in the kitchen. This place should not be open for business!

This was easily the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced. I work for a wide scale company that values quality service. I booked a table online and arrived bang on time. Seating was only available outside which I’m aware is inline with government guidelines. We live in a fast paced world and Covid has really meant pretty much every business has had to adapt or rethink in some way to accommodate the pandemic. What I didn’t expect was to arrive and be told I would need to sit outside in the rain because all the umbrella tables were taken. You’d of thought they’d have only allowed reservations to the capacity where people are kept dry but more importantly, the food is kept dry. The manager was incredibly rude, I explained I’d booked and was not called/text/emailed to say there was limited umbrella seating and he continued to laugh at me and tell me he “couldn’t predict the weather”. Whilst that’s true, you can plan for the weather and I can’t believe this business would not have considered that. After maybe 5 minutes of debating and the manager continuing to tell me it was my fault for not booking via telephone as apposed to email I’d lost my appetite. He then tried to tell me “as a favour” if I took his number and called back in 30 minutes he’d let me know if a umbrella table was available. As you can imagine this was even more insulting considering we’d booked a table 7 days in advance. I will never book here again, horrendous customer service. I wouldn’t employee the manager if there was no one else in the world to employee, what a tool.

Don’t bother. Served raw meat tonight and rock hard churros. Manager thinks he’s above taking responsibility for this restaurants many shortcomings. Dire dining experience, you have been warned.

I was a little disappointed in yesterday visit to this restaurant, megan the waitress was lovely I just want to put that in there. The management on the other hand were rude. The food wasnt good, the chips I couldnt feed to my son as they were that hard, we informed the waitress the way the manager handled it was not great we was going to have desserts but he was that rude we just got up and left. I think overall the main manager was ok but he definitely needs to train the other two on customer service.

Initially started well, drinks order came very quickly, but that really was the only positive. Asked to move into the sunshine as it was cold and there were empty tables, was told no just in case someone else wanted them! Food came, the lamb was as tough as old shoe leather. No one came to check if we were happy whilst eating the meal. When the waitress came to clear our plates we told her the food wasn’t great, not as a complaint but just to pass onto the chef. She sent over the manager who can only be described as rude. He said “well you have eaten most of it so what do you want me to do”. I think I’d like you to get a non customer facing job mate as you’re clearly not suited to this one! Dont waste your money and choose one of the much better independent restaurants at the Quays!!

Very enjoyable lunch on sunny courtyard having stopped in the dockyard area en route to post lockdown break in Devon. Having not been to the area before pleased to find such a pleasant spot. Excellent food, friendly staff & dog friendly making for a perfect stop off

The food was delicious, service was a treat. We had the lamb kebabs- what a delight! Service was relaxed and we had time to get to know the people serving us. Our waiter John Kane was very assertive and sweet. Later in the afternoon we found out he had only been working at The Med for a week!The manager was very attentive and offered a very tasty desert for a bill mix up!

Another restaurant that we stumbled upon whilst strolling around the docks. I booked a table online for the following lunchtime. We arrived early but were made very welcome. We visited during the post lockdown period that restaurants could only serve meals outside. We were given a table in the sunshine but it being breezy, there were some screens that sheltered us. The restaurant also provided blankets which we didn't use but they did fire up the patio heater for us which did take the chill off us. I had the Chicken stuffed with chorizo which I can highly recommend. My partner had the chicken skewers which she enjoyed. A lovely meal and a great shame to see such a lovely restaurant working at a fraction of its true potential. Let's hope over the coming months that business picks up for the whole industry. If you're reading this, you can do your bit by going along to enjoy a meal like we did! It was a shame that we discovered The Med on our last day in Gloucester - we certainly would have returned again.

Booked the night before. They were even wonderful on the phone. Very accomodating, as we usually bike it in so we can have a glass or two with our meal, providing somewhere safe to keep the bikes. Setting is lovely, right on the main Dock. It is never loud as the bars and chain restraunts are tucked round the corner. We always take the kids who were welcomed with respect. Sunset views included as well! Everybody you deal with are friendly and know their menu well. One of the chaps attending our table was the Co-owner. Its refreshing to see all the staff mucking in with service which definately adds to the med. Theme. Our food was on the whole fantastic, that's coming from a spaniard who misses good honest passion in a menu and not something drummed up for the masses. Go there with a genuine attitude to enjoy yourself and for a fantastic meal, then love the relief of a very reasonable bill at the end and a lovely setting to digest it all. Proper food, proper service, proper bill! Well done!

Had a takeaway from here a few weeks ago it was so bad it went in the bin I complained that night no response after resorting to social media eventually got a response and it was intimated that I really didn’t know what I was talking about with the food that I ordered my complaint apparently was not valid because nobody had complained that night. I did ask if it was an off night and the response was no it was busy so I deduce from that busy night rubbish food the manager or the owner not sure which said he was going to offer me some money off to return but probably I wouldn’t accept that and what would I like a good outcome to be I asked for a refund because in the past if I have had something that isn’t fit for purpose I’ve had a refund and was told a flat no! No apology nothing! Would not eat here again customer service zero food zero. I didn’t want to tap any bubble but I had to!

We originally ordered using just eat but my partner is allergic to cheese so when leaving the notes we asked for the burger with no cheese ..... unfortunately the chef hadn’t read the notes and it turned up with cheese ... after ringing up to inform them of the error they were so helpful .. they replaced the error and were so apologetic .. the food arrived quickly and tasted amazing ... one of the top restaurant takeaways in Gloucester ... can not recommend enough well done guys

Have been here three times in 2020 and would have visited even more had there not been a lockdown. We were so sure of a good evening that we took a business colleague. Staff were friendly and very attentive. Food was excellent and good value. Will definitely return.

I've lived in Gloucester for 19 years and this was my first visit. Genuinely the best service I've ever received at a restaurant. Our server was Nick and he was incredibly polite, had a laugh with us and made some suggestions from the menu which were outstanding. We were offered some free mulled wine which was perfection and the food was delicious. Best sirloin steak I've had! If I could rate it 6 stars, I would. Definitely come to The Med.

Fresh, flavourful Mediterranean dishes. Family shared Greek salad, Spanish grilled fish platter and pinchos. Simple, well presented tasty lunch in an enjoyable tranquil environment overlooking the canal basin. Will be back next time we are in the area.

Firstly this is a negative review, not because of the food but because of the lack of social distancing.We visited the MED last night and were sat on a table for two which was placed directly behind the next table. My partner sat virtual back-to-back with one of the occupants of the table behind us which was a little unsettling at first but we let it go.Our table, and the one behind us, was placed next to a small partition that stood about shoulder height while sat at the table. On the other side of the partition was a table of four that was also placed against the partition meaning that the tables were separated by about 10cm. This was fine as I was sure that they would not seat anyone at this adjacent table.I was shocked when they seated people at the table next to ours as we were literally eye-eye with the people sat at this table. To be fair, the new diners were also really concerned about the proximity of the two tables and kept their masks on. They spoke to us about how uncomfortable they felt and called over one of the waiters to complain. He seemed to begrudgingly move their table a couple of feet over to increase the space between us but still not to a comfortable distance. During this time other diners were seated with only the partition seperating them from the table behind ours so literally sat head-to-head with the other guests.This is crazy behaviour in these times and this was the first time I have been in a restaurant or coffee shop where I have felt uncomfortable to such a degree. I get it that the restaurant has to make money but they are cramming people in with little or no regard to social distancing or the safety of their guests.They have the typical hand sanitiser as you enter and track/trace but they were also seating multiple diners in the same waiting area while getting their tables ready with no cleaning between groups.I mentioned my concerns to our waiter on the way out and his view was that he was happy that they were open and he could earn a wage. I get this and totally support him but all they have to do is place clear perspex along the top of the partition to create a barrier between the adjacent tables and space them out a little more. In other areas of the restaurant it looked much better so the management have obviously thought about things.The positive from the whole experience is that the food was really good and it was a nice place with friendly staff but they let themselves down completely with the disregard for public safety shown.

Lovely tasty food and great staff, would recommend. I had the veggie aubergine with rice which was very tasty and hubby had sea bass with rice, also very tasty. Definitely a great choice. Nice restaurant and nice atmosphere

My wife and I came here last Saturday afternoon, and although the restaurant was filling up, we still received top quality service from the staff and the food was perfect.I had a falafel wrap and my wife had the marinated lamb kebabs. The food was excellent, very well seasoned with a great kick of spice.The cocktails were delicious, and our after dinner coffee (I had a cappuccino and my wife had a latte) was the best I have tasted in Gloucester. 10/10 would recommend, thank you Med for making our evening. We will definitely be back!

My partner and I were lucky enough to get a table at The Med early this evening. Super-friendly staff and the best tapas we’ve ever had. Generous portion sizes and fresh, tasty produce. Definitely worth a visit.

Found this restaurant by accident. After a long drive from York last Sunday we needed a good meal, and it did not disappoint, friendly service and beautiful food. I would happily drive back to Gloucester just to return to this restaurant!!!

Husband and I are away for a few days and walked to the docks to find somewhere to eat. Read the menu outside and really liked the sound of it. It was a Monday night and very quiet, the lovely Megan took care of us and was extremely attentive and very pleasant. I was torn between tapas dishes and a kebab and in the end we had a sharing mixed kebab, (lamb, chicken in different marinades, lamb chops) with spicy rice and chips. It was presented beautifully and tasted even better and we were both pleasantly full not wanting a desert. Reasonably priced too, just under £40 with two pints and a pint of lime and soda. We would definitely recommend!

I’ve left It a few days to right this review to try and think of some positives. We were served raw chicken wings to start and steak was miles of how we asked for it. The staff were miserable and the atmosphere was dreadful. We walked out without eating our mains and we were just put off completely. Such a shame as we had high hopes. The only thing I can say is that the manager dealt with the situation professionally and calmly.

Absolutely delicious kebabs and the most juicy and succulent meat! Really enjoyed the starters we ordered too and have no complaints!

It was cosy and well laid out with lovely food. The kebab was lovely and since we’ve orders for home delivery. Very friendly and welcoming we really enjoyed it here

We arrived at the restaurant and everything seemed fine as we were shown to our seats. However we were not seen to for at least 20 minutes. Eventually a waiter arrived with the food menus but did not take our drink orders. We were then left for a while longer before we ordered both our food and drinks at the same time. Our drinks arrived fine no problems and the food was okay. However We had poor service throughout the evening and were not attended to for long periods of time. I asked to speak to the manager and he alone is the reason I am leaving this review. The manager had a very very unprofessional manner about him and felt it necessary to give us his background in the industry. He claimed to know how to be a perfect host but he was horrific! We did not need to know all about his business and personal life. He was making excuse after excuse and I was frustrated that we were offered no refund. I asked for a refund as the service was so poor to which he sgain was very reluctant to give but did so eventually. He then continued to be over friendly and personal and implied quite loudly that the reason the staff were not able to offer good service was due to the corona virus and that we were "all buggered anyway". I was disgusted with his unprofessional and childish attitude so we left very disappointed with the manager more than anything else!

We arrived having booked before, were waved to a table and waited 20 minutes for menus or anyone to acknowledge us or ask about drinks. We then had to get up and ask to order our food. It took an hour for the food to come. When it came it was average, but not worth waiting for an hour. We had high hopes from the outside and some other reviews but it seems they were completely swept off their feet on the night we went (31/7/20). There was one waitress who was great, but unfortunately she was overrun by a busy restaurant and seeming to carry the whole place herself. Maybe on a less busy day it would be better but our experience wasn’t great at all.

We stopped off at The Med for lunch while on a shopping trip to the Gloucester Quays. We had the mixed kebab platter for two that easily stretched to the three of us. The food was hot, fresh and very tasty. We also had a Tabbouleh which complimented the kebabs perfectly. The manager, Ataur, was a lovely host. Highly recommended.

We have eaten here last year and post lockdown thought we’d pop along with our youngest daughter for a spot of Lunch, the great thing about this place is, I love Spanish food and I love Greek food, and as the name suggests the Med the menu has many options of both countries, the Tapas are great as are the Kebabs, our daughter had the obligatory chicken burger as they do, but loved it, highly recommend this place if you love Spanish or Greek food they also have many other items on the menu Steak for example, the staff are excellent, friendly and very efficient, the restaurant is also very clean and the COVID measure are as one would expect. Highly Recommended

This was our first visit to the Med, can't complain at all, the staff were very welcoming and the service was great, the food from the Roasted Red Pepper Meze Dip, the Mixed Kebab and the Tabbouleh Herb Salad (which the waiter recommended to complement the kebab) was spot on. The place had a lovely relaxed vibe with nice views of the docks and we will certainly be visiting again.

Really lovely decor and atmosphere and great food. As its next to the water its naturally welcoming and you can tell they have put effort I to the style and food choices. We both had great meals at great value.

We visited on Saturday evening. Staff were very welcoming. We received great service the whole time we were there. We chose to eat from Tapas menu. As there were 4 of us we had 1 of every item on the tapas list. It was lovely. The chorizo and the paldron peppers were my favourite. My hubby enjoyed the prawns and advocado toast. Every dish was lovely. We also enjoyed the wine. We had a really good evening. Nice table by the window watching the lights over the docks. Great location. We will be be back. Familia de 6 visitamos un sábado por la tarde.La segunda vez que hemos estado en este restaurante y en ambas ocasiones hemos tenido comidas y servicios fantásticos.Todos los entrantes y las comidas principales fueron realmente agradables. Encantadora decoración y entorno. Ni una sola queja de nuestra mesa.Definitivamente volveremos.

Deslucido. La comida posiblemente podría describirse como justo por debajo del promedio en el mejor de los casos. Mi pollo estaba demasiado cocido pero frío, las potatas bravas estaban poco cocinadas, las croquetas no tenían ningún tipo de condimento y la comida de mi esposo estaba demasiado cocida. Las únicas cosas para disfrutar fueron el Merlot y el yogur de menta. Muy decepcionante.
