Greek On The Docks in Gloucester

Went mid afternoon so difficult to tell on atmosphere. Food was nice. Location on the dock was very pleasant. Plenty of seating, indoor and out.

I visited Greek on the Docks in Gloucester and tried the beef tomahawk steak – impressively presented, with a perfectly baked crust and juicy inside. The meat was tender and aromatic, and the garnish complemented the taste. The setting is stylish, with a view of the docks, and the service – professional and polite. I recommend it for connoisseurs of quality meat and a pleasant atmosphere.

Really disappointed with this place. I have been a long term customer but recently whenever we try to eat here the staff will not serve us. This has led to us walking out. The young member of staff looked at us and served everyone around us but us. When I raised with the manager he just said sorry and offered to serve us now after a 30 minute wait. At this point I was not prepared to sit there any longer as the atmosphere felt uncomfortable by this point. On another occasion, one of the younger staff approached me and talked to me over familiar. She mentioned in front of my partner that she saw me there with another man before. This was incorrect information and she later apologised to me when I was alone. This is really concerning as this was a lie and given she did not know our situation this could have had major repercussions for someone. I have complained before about their staff who do happen to fall into the younger category. They appear to go out of their way to ignore our table and this has happened on several occasions. Only time we seemed to be served is by the gentleman with glasses. I won’t be eating here again, I’ve spent tons of money here and they don’t care about their loyal customers at all.

Fantastic meal here for my Mum's birthday. We did book a table, and it was a beautiful warm day. Was a bit sad that we didn't get a front table overlooking the docks, but there were a lot having walk ins. Topped off by getting an email later in the day to confirm my booking was cancelled (but I was sat there!). However, that's a minor point. The rest of it was fantastic. So much choice in terms of food! It was really beautiful!! We had 3 courses and each course was excellent value for money! Quality was fantastic as was the service. So we will definitely return, and try something new! The only thing i would love to see on the menu perhaps is more variation of souvlaki? Like chicken and pork. But that's just me, and I'm just suggesting. Overall, it was FANTASTIC and we will definitely come back. For a 3 course meal for 3 people with wine it came to £127.

Food good not great. Good service and nice area

The restaurant is beautifully located, right on the banks of the canals, with a beautiful interior and a large garden. We were a large group, trying about 10 different dishes and everyone was very pleased or delighted. Everything was fresh, well selected and delicious. Even the pasta with meatballs from the children's menu turned out to be excellent.

I had made a reservation there for dinner and the location was wonderful. Right on the dock with a view of the water and near to the city center, along with a car park near it that belonged to a hotel. We got a few starters. We got the tzatziki, which was delicious, although a little on the small side. Along with the calamari which was a good sized portion and seasoned very nicely, with a lemon like version of tzatziki which was nice. We also got the balitses tirion, which is the ball version of saganaki and was delicious. For the mains we got beef giouvestsi which was delicious, the beef literally fell apart and was so soft and tender. We also got the souvlaki, which was a little rough to bite into and a little on the smaller side but delicious nonetheless. On the whole, it was a great authentic greek restaurant with plenty of traditional greek food options. Such a rare place to find in England! I would fully recommend!

Really beautiful place to eat. Very busy on a Saturday, so I would recommend booking in advance. We didn't book but the lady at the front of house managed to find a table for us. The food was phenomenal, we had the mixed grill for 2 and it was huge amount of food. The honey mustard mayonnaise is to die for!!! The service was quick, all of the staff very attentive.

Lovely place serving tasty food.

Feta cheese wrapped in filo pastry, smothered in honey with a sprinkle of sesame seeds. Bake until perfect, and serve. You'll be forgiven if you think you've died and gone to Greek heaven. This truly is Ambrosia, the food of the Gods. My dining companions were equally as impressed. The spinachy mushrooms in the cheesey deliciousness can only be described as remarkable. We've already established that this northern geezer doesn't do bunny food, so my main course was served with a 'northern salad', chips in a feta sauce. Carbs with carbs. It's a good job I had plenty of insulin with me. The mixed grill, I was led to believe, was a delightful array of assorted meats and the Souvlaki Thalassinon was exceptional. The swordfish stood out, the rice was even better. There was no room for pudding. Our host (with the most), Sakis, turned out to be the star of the show. A marvellous geezer with a great sense of humour. If you're ever hungry in Gloucester you can do no better than to scurry along to Greek on the Docks.

13 of us came to celebrate a birthday 🎂 the food was so good and the service was outstanding ,and allergy advice was not a problem at all,which was nice 🙂we will be back soon as the birthday boy won't shut up about the fish dish he had 🤣🤣he talked about it all afternoon and evening!😆😂thankyou 😁

First time here. We had a slight mishap early on but these things happen and the serving team handled it brilliantly. Great food, service and atmosphere, all for a very reasonable price.

We ate here recently on a short trip to Gloucester and are so pleased we did. The food was fantastic, I had the scallops followed by the kleftiko, my husband had the taras followed by the pork souvlaki all of which was perfectly cooked. The meat was exceptionally tender and flavourful and the portions generous. We would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone and would suggest booking unless eating very early midweek.

My Husband and I decided to try this place on a day out to Gloucester. I have had and made Gyros before so I was excited to try something authentic from Greek on the Docks. It was disappointing to be honest. Very greasy food. We ordered from the vegan menu. My husband had the stuffed aubergine which did taste very good but again so much oil. But my vegan Gyros was really strange and disappointing. Even the way it was served was unauthentic. Separate ingredients on the plate. Very greasy and i could not eat all of it. A heap of sliced onion, no yogurt, unseasoned 'meat' and just 4 small triangles of bread. I would not return there. Shame.

Had a great dining experience at Greek on the Docks! The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making us feel at home from the moment we walked in. The food was delicious, especially the mixed grill, which was packed with flavour and perfect for sharing. We really appreciated that they didn’t make a fuss about the four of us ordering a grill for two—many places would have, but they were more than accommodating. The only reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 is that the chicken in the mixed grill was a bit tough, which was a slight letdown. Otherwise, everything else was spot on—the atmosphere, the service, and the overall experience. Definitely a place I’d visit again! Would highly recommend for a relaxed, authentic Greek meal in a great setting.

I had the salmon meal which was very average and expensive for what it was.

The day was too good to stay inside, so we headed for the docks and decided on lunch at Greek on the Docks. We sat by a window overlooking the water, it was a nice relaxed venue and I was excited to try the food. We started with Taramas and Balitses Tirion. The Taramas (creamy cod roe dip) was brightly coloured and I enjoyed it. Balitses Tirion, golden fried cheese balls, served with a sweet fruit sauce, were interesting to try. The Aegean Salad, and not just because of the gherkins, but also something about the vinaigrette - reminded me of McDonalds. The seafood in the salad was slightly chewy, not totally in a bad way, but like it was slightly pickled in the marinating process by the white wine and lemon juice, and in a salad, it might be better to try for a fresher feel and taste. Kleftiko is one of my favourite classic Greek lamb dishes. I cook it at home and so here’s a bit of research about the dish if you are interested. The name literally means “in the style of the klephts,” or even “stolen meat,” referring to the klephts – Greek bandits and guerrilla fighters who lived in the mountains. According to legend, these klephts would steal lambs or goats and cook the meat secretly to avoid detection. They devised an ingenious method: digging a pit or earthen oven, lighting a slow, smokeless fire, and sealing the meat inside. By covering the cooking pit (often with soil or rocks), they trapped the heat and aromas underground so no tell-tale smoke or smells would give them away. After many hours, the bandits would return to a tender, perfectly cooked lamb. The defining feature of kleftiko is its slow, enclosed cooking process, which echoes the original pit-cooking method. The technique has been modernised, but the fundamentals remain the same: low and slow roasting in a tightly sealed container to lock in moisture and flavour. I wrap mine in kitchen paper with all the veggies and cheese inside and slow cook it, cooking and serving it in the parcel. At Greek on the Docks, the final presentation of the slow cooked lamb is wrapped in flaky filo - which was great. The lamb was yummy, tender and fell apart as it should. This dish was the definite highlight of the day. It was served with a gravy, that seemed more suited to a traditional English dish - than this classic Greek one, but that might just be me. Either way. I still liked it. The service was warm and attentive throughout our meal; our waiter was friendly and helpful. Greek on the Docks is in a great location and offers genuine hospitality. I enjoyed all of the dishes, but would order differently next time. I felt like the flavours in the dishes we had were a little confused, which made it all okay, but not great. Overall though, it was a nice lunch in a beautiful location and it was great value for money - so not complaining, just trying to be honest.

One of the best restaurants in Gloucester Docks by far, have been on several occasions and have never left disappointed, the food is always delicious and they have a good selection to suit any appetite, I have never had the same thing twice because of how many other options they have that appeal to me. The restaurant is in a good location with a view out onto the water in the docks and the staff are always welcoming and friendly.

I am only in Gloucester for a day trip. Have to recommend everyone about this place. First time trying Greek cuisines, great food, lovely people, absolutely impeccable.

This was recommended to us and the Greek on the Docks lived up to expectations. The food was displayed on the plate as if the chef took pride in their efforts. My pastitsio was excellent- the accompanying salad also. My wife a vegetarian had a selection of starters as a main meal - like a tapas. The dessert we chose was a vegan chocolate and caramel tart - again excellent. The atmosphere on a Thursday evening was subdued in such a large space - toilet facilities are exquisite. A very enjoyable evening

It was so unbelievable delicious that we came back the next day for dinner. 2 out 3 dinners in Gloucester in this place, best decision ever - You won't regret it. My partner and his sister are both coeliacs and the accommodated gluten free meals for them without any problem.

Turned up on spec for lunch on a chilly Friday. The restaurant has nice views of the river from its conservatory and from the main building and a very pleasing vibe. The menus had a good selection of Greek favourites so something to suit all tastes. We had the Chicken Schnitzel and Beef Stifado respectivey; both dishes were very tasty and authentic. Washed down with a bottle of Mythos, we were very happy. A little slice of Greece in Gloucester, certainly worth a visit.

Really good food! Honestly the most tastiest meats and the tiramisu is the best grill I’ve ever tasted. The only reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is the entertainment, the music was too loud for a restaurant and the smashing plates (though I understand is traditional) made me lose my appetite, I also had a plate shard hit me on the shoulder (no injuries) so it might not be a good idea to do so close to guests. Basically you’d probably be better of going in the week so the entertainment isn’t there

This is a wonderful restaurant, serving authentic Greek dishes cooked to perfection. The staff were friendly and flexible, and every dish we ate was delicious. We started with grilled octopus, skordalia, Greek salad and an aubergine dish, then a seafood platter with perfectly balanced ladolemono, gemista and pastitsio. Afterwards we enjoyed galaktoboureko. Greta to see good Greek wines on the list too.

Enjoyed another very good lunch here today. We ordered homemade meatballs to share and then enjoyed Kleftico Lahanikon ( see veggie dish below) and Sheftalis (pork and lamb sausages)

Excellent service included being unphased by our large group changing plans at the last minute. Also the bar staff were exceptionally helpful, made me a hot toddy (I explained what that is), and served us a starter to share while we were waiting for our table.

My husband and I had the pleasure of dining at your establishment to celebrate our 13th wedding anniversary. 🎉🥂 The staff were exceptionally courteous and attentive. The service was remarkably prompt and efficient. There was a diverse array of culinary options available. Some of the dishes were unique and unfamiliar to us, and they were presented in innovative ways. All the starters we sampled were absolutely delicious. 😋 We share our courses. We ordered Sifado beef stew. I've eaten this in Greece several times. It was OK. The gravy was kinda sour & a bit bland. Nothing special or very Greek. The Kelftico Lamb in Filo pastry was like nothing I've ever eaten & not in a good way, unfortunately. The parcel was OK. However, it's hot & comes with a rich hot gravy and plated with a cold garden salad covered in tangy vinaigrette. It wasn't nice. I'd never order again. It's not a good combination, in my opinion & I'm not fussy. We had fantastic starter's & delightful dessert. 😋🍰 Reasonable price, too. The location is fantastic. Free car park after 6 pm around the corner. 🚗 We would return but try different mains, obviously. Or double up on starter's 😆

Great location, nice atmosphere, very friendly and attentive staff. Some food was great, some not so great. I had a BBQ pork steak which was like cardboard (definitely not freshly cooked) and the sauce was a bit synthetic-tasting, but the souvlaki was great, freshly cooked and tender. Feta and spinach pie was ok but a bit heavy, but I know there's different styles in different parts of Greece. I prefer a lighter filo pastry. Scallops were very nice. The greek house wine (red) went well with the food. Desserts were great, the semifreddo was divine.

Yammas 🤭Absolutely loved it here a real taste of Greece, the ambience inside was perfect, staff were attentative and the drinks on offer were great. So we started with the Ouzo of course. The food was both generous and gorgeous. We will definitely be visiting again soon

One of the best meals out in Gloucester. Fantastic cocktails, really delicious food at excellent prices, attentive staff and a beautiful setting. Can’t go wrong! The calamari was particularly good.
