We are visiting the Restaurant prior to a meeting and decided to arrive early to enjoy some dinner before the meeting. The venue was distinctly chilly, the menu was okay with what looked like some good vegetarian options. Opted for the 'Clasic Vegetarian Lasagne' which was anything but classic being based on imitation minced beef! May suit some but not me, clasic Vegetarian Lasagne is, or should be made with vegetables, not a meat substitute. Very very disappointed😞

Lovely hotel, stayed he for work with a room overlooking the racecourse, restaurant was busy but still really nice food. I stayed whilst the venue was being used for prom night so enjoyed seeing all the young ones suited and dressed up. Ideal location with parking available Room was lovely, a good size with all require amenities. Another hotel I'll definitely be staying in again next time I'm in the area.

Brooklands Restaurant at the holiday inn goes back to my family route. I was so little & was my dads favourite place to go. We went regular as a family & mum & dad on their own regular. I went for my birthday in March & the service was terrible. No table cloth! No ice for drinks! Red wine in a white wine glass! No taste of wine from the waiter just filled the glasses to the top! Only two red wine on a restaurant wine list! No specials... menu very restricted. I’m so glad we cancelled our stay as the whole experience was diabolical. I will never be returning! Hence your top manager left Sujeewa & I don’t blame him! The place has lost its exclusivity, Albion’s & service!such a shame will not return.

I hosted a party evening for 100 guests paid £1450 for buffet that wasn’t enough, 30 people were served and the other 70 left u satisfied. We have asked for a refund for our 70 guests, we were told by management it’s impossble. The food was horrible as well. We have written and ask for a refund but they were very resistant. So just letting the public know if you go there what to expect.

Got this night free with hotels.com , having clocked up 10 nights. Was really impressed! On arrival the receptionist was pleasant and attentive. On entering the room the wife wasn’t impressed with the two single beds (which I had booked). The receptionist had our room changed immediately . Incidentally nice room and room rate excellent value for money - clean and comfortable. Restaurant was closed but were told bar menu could cover most of it. We enjoyed the bar menu , again the staff very pleasant and on the ball. The spar next door was available to guests and had sauna , relaxation room, steam room, large gym etc. Over all absolutely great value for money with no cutting of corners. Well done Holiday Inn, will definitely be back without question.

Visited Brooklands Restaurant for Mothering Sunday Lunch. After a warm welcome, despite there being 8 of us, service was excellent. Drinks and foid order taken promptly. Each course brought so no need for anyone to sit waiting. All food was excellent. Everyone cleared their plates including the 2 children who had the same as we adults. Good choice too. Pleased too to see that Professor Shell was there, a childrens entertainer and magician who visits tables between courses. Our grandclildrem thrilled to go home with balloon spacemen. Overall good value in an upmarket environment. Thank you Brooklands and all staff. You made our day special.

Before the hotel and restaurant become a Holiday Inn, the Brooklands restaurant used to be the place to eat in Barnsley. The Maitre D was amazing and the service was outstanding. The service unfortunately went down hill as did the food quality when the Maitre D left when the hotel become a Holiday Inn. I decided to avoid eating here because of that. Quite recently however, I decided to try again after someone told me it had improved. Sure enough, something has changed and the food quality has improved somewhat, as has the service. It's not quite the quality it was when the hotel was Brooklands, but its certainly a huge improvement on what it was like a year or so ago. If you've not been here for a while, I'd recommend trying again as I believe this will improve further in the coming months.

Stayed here one night in an executive room which apart from being lovely & big lacked anything executive style. The sofa & chairs needed to be arranged around a coffee table really & there are no plug sockets by the bed. I'm a terrible sleeper so plug into my phone to listen to the radio at night & of course it ran out of charge! There was just one choice of tea (no fruit tea!) & the shower really really did need a good overhaul. The breakfast looked lovely (black pudding yay!) but the bacon was stone cold.. couldn't fault the staff, very friendly & welcoming although being Bristolian I struggle to understand anyone north of Birmingham!!

The real plus point for us was the free access to the adjacent health club which has a decent sized pool, sauna and two steam rooms as well as a gym. There is lots of parking, the WiFi worked well and the only negative point for us was that the bar was understaffed on the Saturday night that we stayed.

The venue is lovely . The bar is a bit pricey, don't mind paying if the drinks are ok. Every pint we ordered was flat, when we told the bar staff, of which there was only 2 all night, we were told they hadn't got enough of the relevant glasses for that brand. The buffet was lovely but presentation was terrible. One of the staff came to fill up the pizza tray, they were all laid out in fingers. He just simply tipped it up onto the tray which resulted in it all being laid upside down. The money these people are paying for the venue and everything else the service should be impeccable. Soup to start was actually quite good, however it was all down hill from here. My drink order was forgotten about. Then I ordered 'butterfly chicken'. A cheap piece of chicken was obviously put on a cheap grill (for far too long as it was extremely dry) and served with about 5 fat greasy chips. Due to it being dry I smothered it in the peppercorn sauce, yet this was unbearably peppery. All this and it was massively over priced.Stay away.

Thanks God we got a free upgrade as I'd have hated to have paid extra for this.First off the tables were long rather than circular which was very unsociable. The meals took ages to serves and weren't anything special... burnt toast with pate starter. Hard sprouts with burnt y.puds main and very dry. Coming round to the entertainment.. the singer had an amazing voice very good band although music not to my taste. Dance floor too small for room.. I got purposely elbowed by some rude folk. Also drinks expensive.Plus side... staff are pleasant and the venue is attractive.

As a family we have been eating at this restaurant since it opened early 70's (I think) since our last visit it has been re vamped by Holiday Inn. The visit today was very poor. Not only poor by Holiday inn standard but poor by a Saturday Night fast food shop poor. We ordered 5 drinks. 2 Soup and 5 meals. Our drinks order took 10 minutes for the first part to arrive and a further 30 for the Coke. Our food order took 50 minutes to arrive after the drinks. Initially the soup was lovely. However The recommended burgers were tasteless. Dried out and appeared to have sat on the hot plate for to long. Dry. Bland and unsatisfactorily. The staff while friendly and pleasant were seeming unconcerned when the issues were pointed out to them. This was not a busy evening but a Wednesday lunchtime. I think that Holiday Inn has taken a popular and pleasant place to eat and ruined it. At least on this visit this is what we found.

Came here for our Christmas party night with a small family group and had overall a good night. The tables were all set beautifully and the entertainment was a combination of live and recorded music which was great. My wife and I were staying in the Hotel as part of a free complimentary weekend which included a three course meal in the restaurant, and breakfast the following morning. This review is for our meal we had on the Saturday night.Overall, both my wife and I were pleased with what we had - but the deserts were quite frankly dreadful. An apology was made, but never the less, if the restaurant is A la Carte, I would have expected better.So...we had tomato soup and samosa to start, followed by lamb chops and risotto, Eaton mess and bread and butter pudding for desert; finally cheese board and coffees. The starters and mains were fantastic, and the cheese board was fab. However, the deserts were truly awful and should not have been sent out. My wife's Eaton mess had no meringue! it was just a small pot full of cream and sickly sauce; my bread and butter pudding had been reheated so many times the base was as hard as a rock and black. This was a shame as we were both having a wonderful time. The restaurant was very quiet apart from a group of 10 and one other couple. It was a shame this really, as we may have considered going back. I could not decided if 4* might have been more appropriate, but then again, if you are going to class yourself as a restaurant, its got to be better. One final short note - no concerns around the breakfast. Spot on.

Mid-week solo dining, more business travel...I was staying in the hotel and just couldn't be bothered to go out so opted to eat in the quite busy bar.My starter, chicken wings were served on the hateful piece of slate, why do they do that, and were pretty cold as confirmed by the waiter who stuck his finger in to one of them and THEN asked me if I wanted some fresh from t'kitchen? Well, er... I do now.Second batch were also cold, probably due to the slate. The smear of sauce on the side is just weird too. A consolation free glass of wine improved my mood a bit.Main course - the burger, it should be a staple in a place like this, served to perfection even when cooked "well done" as I requested. But oh dear... firstly, this hand-cut thick chips... which are ok if they're cooked properly but these weren't. Greasy, hard and tasteless and 6 of 'em! I much prefer thin and crispy fries with a bug stodgy burger, texture contrast is good.So to the burger - soggy brioche (wrong for a burger) and a dried up lump of something brown and inedible in the middle and an incredible skewered salad cocktail right through the middle of it! Naff presentation and so wrong. As for the meat, ok I asked for a well done burger, but this looked like it had been microwaved on high for about 10 minutes. It smelt awful, looked awful and the first nibble confirmed that it tasted awful too - dry, bland and heavy. My appetite withered, I upped and left. To the bar then, more wine please... and a quick squizz at the puds menu, perhaps there was redemption in calories and custard. YES... bread and butter pudding, which was superb! So, overall 4/10, the pud really saved them, otherwise awful.

Just returned from the Holiday Inn at Dodworth, Barnsley where I enjoyed a really lovely meal in the Brooklands restaurant there. The occasion was to say goodbye to the Lord Lieutenant of South Yorkshire, Mr David Moody who retired recently. We had pre ordered our 3 course meal as we were a party of around 60 to save time. The pate was a generous portion accompanied by wholemeal brown toast, salad and a delicious fruit chutney. This was followed by a hearty Yorkshire portion of beef, roast potatoes, new potatoes, several juliennes of fresh vegetables and a huge Yorkie pud. Yummy. Still having a little room for dessert I had ordered cheesecake which came with a generous dollop of fresh cream. As usual coffee and mints added a final flourish to an excellent 3 course meal for a very reasonable £16-00 which may well have been a discounted price due to us being a big party. The staff and the service they gave was excellent and timely, observant without being overbearing. Highly recommended for value for money, wholesome food and excellent service.

I believe a good restaurant should never run out of anything,I also believe a good restaurant should offer everything listed on it's menu and anticipate extra diners at the weekend, sadly,in my opinion,Brooklands no longer fits into this catagory.I booked a table for our wedding anniversary on 4th july,a treat for us without the kids. The table was booked for 8pm,the first thing we were told was the flavour of the soup followed by they had run out of barnsley chops! This meal is their signature dish and the reason we chose to dine here.I was so diisappointed, and had our daughter not been driving back down the m1 towards home I think we would have left without dining..We ordered sirloin steaks which were not very exciting to say the least, served with five chips and "roasted" tomatoes, and to top it all they tried to charge us for the sauces which were,in fact, included in the price of the meal.In the past we have enjoyed great meals here, and on one occasion I asked, when booking, was it possible to order the barnsley chop? I was told no,but I don't see why not,it would avoid the disappointing experience we have just had,SO BROOKLANDS,LISTEN TO THE PAYING CUSTOMER AND BE A LITTLE MORE ACCOMODATING.

I went for a meal here with a friend and I was very pleasantly surprised. The service was very warm and friendly and we enjoyed the food too. I started with a roasted red pepper and goat's cheese tart which was particularly good ... it was a deep tart rather than the flat ones and was very fresh and tasty. We both had fish for our main courses, I had the salmon and my friend had the sea bass. The salmon was a very generous portion with good accompaniments and the sea bass was very nicely cooked. Our only complaint was a couple of fairly large bones in the sea bass. My friend had the assortment of desserts and that was very good if you've got any room left by that point! The restaurant does have that look of a hotel restaurant with not a lot of character but it was warm and welcoming. I think it would be ideal for family celebrations or couples wanting a quiet meal out.

Avoid. Visited the Christmas ball and 4 out of our 9 friends (who all ate the beef) was ill! Terrible that 2 days later people are poorly. The soup and pâté' was terrible and cheap with thin basic white bread. The main meals were well presented but tasted horrendous , and the dessert again looked nice but tasted of plastic. The menu that was pre booked stated coffee and mince pies. After asking where the mince pies were ( we waited expecting they were coming - so the coffee was cold) there was no explanation as the where they were. If this "ball" was fairly cheap I wouldn't have an issue but at £70 per couple plus drinks I could have ate at an amazing restaurant locally and had spare change. And as mentioned in another persons review we asked for 3 of the wines on the wine menu to be told it wasn't available?! Who dosnt stock up on wine the weeks leading to Christmas and New Year?

We arrived at 7.10, and in the restaurant was a table of 8 people and a table with one person on, there was no one at the bar to serve us and after waiting 5 minutes a waitress arrived . I ordered a pint of Becks Vier lager and a diet coke and the waitress brought it over to us while we looked at the menu on tasting the Becks it was sour which I took back to the bar and the waitress changed it saying it was probably what was sat in the pipes, On tasting the 2nd pint it was also sour when I took it back to the waitress she said she could not understand it as she had been serving it all night, so I had a 33cl bottle of Peroni instead which when I got the bill at the end of the night was an unbelievable £4 per bottle. We were then shown into the restaurant where we had our 1st course which was asparagus soup which was very salty and for the main course we had the barnsley chop which was o.k. but it was presented on a serving plate but there was no utensils to serve the food with. With the chop we got what was described as minted mashed potatoes but actually it tasted like mint sauce mixed in the mashed potatoes and the strongest flavour was vinegar, the roasted veg and side dish of vegetables was tasteless. The waitress never came and asked us if everything was o.k. or if we required another drink, So we had to wave the waiter over to order another drink ( If I had realised the price I would not have bothered)Our deserts were chocolate brownie which was nice, eaton mess which was nearly all crèam and crème brulee. Then we had coffee to finish which was coloured water with no taste at all, So it was a very disappointing night and if I had been paying the full price of £60 I would have been asking for my money back.I thought the idea of doing these deals with Groupon was to attract return custom but We certainly wont be in a hurry to go back after this experience at the Brooklands even at the Groupon price.

Me & my daughter came to the holiday inn for our groupon afternoon tea last week. Nice place and everyone seems so friendly from reception through to the bar. Service was great, Siobhon was always smiling and could not do enough for us. We loved our food and I could not get enough of the brownies! I would certainly come again and I have recommended it to my freinds. Thankyou!

Purchased a voucher on groupon for afternoon. Admittedly £12 for afternoon tea is very competitive but everything about our visit was awful. We had made a reservation as per the voucher instructions. We arrived at the hotel and the receptionist pointed us in the direction of the bar where we to take afternoon tea. We stood in the bar for 10 minutes waiting for a member of staff. Eventually I returned to reception and was told as only one member of staff was serving at the bar just to go back and wait. Eventually a member of staff appeared with a large trolley full of sandwiches which she was serving to a large group. The staff member did not make any attempt to acknowledge us, after serving the sandwiches she quickly disappeared through a door and we were left waiting again. When she finally appeared again she made no attempt to acknowledge us - I stated we had a reservation and was told if we wanted to go sit down she'd come to desk with us. We were sat in a cold atmosphere less room waiting a while until the waitress came over. Eventually the waitress asked what we would like to drink. We asked for a de-caffeinated tea and a de-caffeinated coffee. The waitress returned with our food and said the drinks would follow. As it was we had finished the sandwiches by the time the drinks arrived. We were given a herbal tea which admittedly was decaff but this was not what we requested- I asked that it be swapped for a decafe coffee. The coffee was served in a dirty stained cup (see photo) and I would challenge anyone to drink it, it was so strong it was completely unpalatable- this applied to both cups. The waitress did come back over and ask if the good was ok and whether we wanted the glass of wine advertised on the voucher, we declined the wine, explained the coffee was undrinkable and asked for a glass of water, again the glasses were dirty (see photo). We promptly left. I did originally purchase a second voucher - however I do not intend on wasting my time returning - shocking

Can not fault the staff at The Holiday Inn for their efficiency and hard work. This venue has been used on a number of occasions for functions and every time the welcome has been excellent. The function room and choice of menu was suitable for a large party as was the service and pricing.

Visited last evening as a birthday outing. Would also mention that it was a Groupon voucher for the set menu. Brooklands has for many years been widely renowned and famous for it's 'barnsley chop'! Clearly, the independence of the restaurant has now gone with the incorporation into Holiday Inn chain and with it the quality of the cooking! The menu [ several times photocopied, grubby A4 sheet ] had all 3 courses as 'shared platters' which to me indicates a choice of several smaller portions of each dish available. This 80's gimmick wasn't even that since the starter platter was simply a serving slate comprising 2 triangles of pate, a blob of chutney and one, yes one slice of toast quartered for us to 'share'. No utensils provided to serve onto one's plate! The main was the same, a serving plate comprising one lamb chop, braised to within an inch of it's life; 2 large blobs of dry mash and a few roasted veg with a pool of gravy around. Again no utensils to serve onto your plate and especially, no knife to cut the chop into the 2 portions! Every tried moving mash from plate to plate without a spoon, very messy! The voucher we had clearly illustrated an attractive roasted lamb joint and my many experiences of 'barnsley chops' were all roasted. Not so here, the braising doing nothing to render the underlying fat and the skin looking so insipid and uninviting...... at least this slid off the meat relatively easily! The meat itself to be fair was reasonable if a little dry and of course, there was no option to be given as to how you preferred it cooked [ i do like lamb pink! ] since it was braised. We did ask for a gravy boat as again, skimming it off the 'platter' with a knife and fork was tricky! The pudding was at least a platter in that it had 3 elements. However, the Eton Mess was just that , a sloppy bowl of cream based something, half a dozen blueberries and no meringue. The creme brûlée turned out to be unidentifiable cheesecake [ without explanation ] and the chocolate brownie appeared to have been kicking around the kitchen for a few days by the condition of the pieces! The voucher cost me £24 for a meal priced at £60 for two. Don't be fooled, i felt well and truely robbed at £24! The place has no atmosphere and little idea of how to cook and present basic food!

I visited here on Sunday for lunch with my husband. Set menu with a number of good choices for starters, mains and desserts. Firstly service was excellent, very prompt and professional. I thought the food was very nice, I had game terrine for starter and salmon for main - which was lovely, my husband had prawn cocktail and beef, he was a little disappointed with the beef but overall we did enjoy it and thought it was good value (we had a voucher).

Excellant service from the beginning. The food was hot, very tasty and the beef was to die for!Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and the waiting time between courses was spot on. Will definately be going there again.

My family of 4 all thoroughly enjoyed our recent Sunday lunch - a Living Social Deal. Food was hot, tasty and plentiful - the vegetarian option was very good. Excellent speedy service and all staff were pleasant, polite and friendly. Only slight niggle was the cost of drinks from the bar. As a family, we have high standards and are quite hard to please and would never hesitate to offer constructive criticism/make valid complaints, however, we all really enjoyed our afternoon and would not hesitate to dine here again!

Myself and a number of work colleagues went here on the 23rd Dec 2012 for an All Inclusive Party night deal, the cost was around £42 each which was to include a set 3 course meal & free drinks from 8pm to 12:30am. The night started of ok but the presence of security staff was unreal far too many and very intimidating too. The drinks offer was to include cider but when we went to the bar no cider so this was the start of problems. The meal was OK and we did enjoy most of the night until 11pm when we were informed the bar would be closing at 11:30pm (1hr earlier than planned) then at midnight the music was stopped and everyone was told to drink up and leave the function room. The majority of people had booked taxis for 12:30am therefore we had to then stand around the foyer waiting. On returning to work in the new yr the event organiser contacted the hotel, we had read the menu which stated the drinks offer included cider and the night ended at 12:30. The organiser was informed by the hotel that they did not know that the bar had closed at 11:30pm and that there was no cider at all in the bar to be able to allow it on the deal. This was incorrect as in the bar next door it was available to buy if you wanted to pay. The conclusion was that they would offer us all a 3 course meal priced at £11.95 which was usually priced around £25 including a disco. This offer was considered by some of us, until it was brought to light that another party of 12 from our work had made a complaint about their night earlier in the month of December, and they had been offered a free 3 course meal & disco for all the party members. This was then raised with the Hotel restaurant manager who refused to offer us anything like this for our party, the best they were going offer was the deal of £11.95 or they could offer just 8 free meals no where near enough for the amount of people whom went on this christmas party night. At the end of the day we had been mis-sold a party night deal a loosing out on 1 hr drinking time and not all items available as advertised. I will never return to this Hotel for a meal in the future and would not recommend this to any of my friends or family.

We visited last week as part of a Living Social Deal for Sunday Lunch and a pantomime. We had already picked up a leaflet for these lunches so saw the menu and details in advance. This was why we booked it. However the menu on the day was different. Substitutions made and things missed off wuthout explanation or apology, the food was very poor. Bland, tepid and underseasoned. I realise this was a busy event, I realise it was cheap BUT if you cannot deliver then don't promise. The stuffed escalope of turkey wrapped in bacon with red wine jus became 2 thin slices of turkey in a watery gravy lacking any stuffing or bacon. The only thing that stopped me complaining on the day was that this was a family event and the children enjoyed it. It has really put me off ever visting again and I will definitely cross it off the prospective wedding venues list. They are supposed to specialise in large events.

I don't have high expectations of hotel Christmas meal packages but I was pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the food. The Turkish delight and chocolate popcorn was also a nice finishing touch. However, drinks were the usual high Holliday Inn prices and the disco was painfully loud. The live act was good though.

A very disappointing meal at a formal dinner function. The pork was so hard it almost needed a chisel to cut though it, and the accompanying vegetables were all equally way overcooked and unappetizing. The melon starter and fruit salad dessert were both OK, leaving me glad that I had not ordered anything hot. Add in very expensive wine and the overall verdict has to be 'poor',

Attended a large event at Holiday Inn recently, i found the food poor to average. I appreciate mass catering is sometimes hard, however i still think the standard wasn't up to scratch. The starters were ok, however the main course of chicken in a mushroom, tarragon, onion & tomato sauce was very poor. There was hardly any sauce what was there was so thin and tasteless (1 tiny mushroom found!) and the chicken was dry and overcooked, i had to leave mine. On the plus side the dessert of lemon tart was nice. The atmosphere was good but I think this was down the event i attended rather than the hotel.

Went here with my work collegues and our partners for Christmas works do, we paid £30 per person for a 3 course meal and Take That tribute act. The entertainment was fine, but the food was RANK.The starters were an average Prawn Cocktail, which I had or soup or Goats Cheese tart. The "roast" potatoes had been boiled to within an inch of their life and then roasted for about 10 seconds - they were soggy! the meat was overcooked, tough and dry. all the veg was mushy and overboiled, each plate also got a about a drop of gravy, was nowhere near enough to cover even a quarter of your plate! There was no care gone into the main meal, it was a big let down, my partner could'nt even eat it, he put a serviette over his plate and left it. It was very disappointing as everyone was very hungry and had been looking forward to the meal! The desserts were nice, but they were probably bought in ready made..they were too perfect compared to the standard of the the other courses. The hotel and surroundings were pleasant but just wouldnt go again to eat.
