Had a meal delivered last night. Cost of £31.. very disappointed, chicken was so over cooked it was inedible, it was very hard and chewy. Going to get our Chinese somewhere else from now on!👎

Disgusting, threw it in the bin after I phoned them about my delivery, they weren't interested whatsoever! first and last time there!

Ok, so vast majority of the order was lovely. However, the chips were awful! Clearly had been left over from lunchtime and heated up (c'mon folks, we all know what they look and taste like!). The money you pay for this you expect freshly cooked food not reheated leftovers!

Left a bad review on here 11 months ago but thought I try them again tonight .... I must say the best Chinese in the area the food was tasty .hot and well prepared 😏 I will be going here all the time from now on Thankyou for a lovely chineese

DO NOT ORDER ONLINE. Threshold for delivery is higher & no free delivery. When I asked when I picked up my order I was told by a very smug assistant that it had always been the case & I didn't know what I was talking about as she had worked therefor 2 years, I've been going much longer than that & never seen this issue before. I will not be going there again due to the smug response. Other chineese takaways available in the area.

This review is based on my experience on the day and could well be different for you, but I doubt it. Having read many reviews of this take away, as it’s the new kid on the block so to speak in Chinese takeaways, some of the negative ones stuck in my mind and I tended to not use it. Should you be guided by reviews ? Who knows but they ranged from fantastic food, salty and tasteless food and waited a long time for the delivery to arrive. But when you are taken there by friends after an early evening out you have to use it, there no alternative and It’s a long way to walk ! 🤭 So I went in worried it has to be said, but I need not have worried. Greeted by a very helpful young lady, which made me forget all the reviews knocking around in my head. I ordered my favourite salt and pepper squid a couple of pancake rolls and a tub of satay sauce. The meal was prepared very quickly, so in, ordered and out in less than ten minutes, times may vary if you have a shop full of customers. Got it home and I was knocked off my feet by just how good the food was. Yes really. The quality, the amount, and the taste. I have tried every Chinese’s in the local area and I do have a favourite but this food was astounding. Ok you may say well it’s only one meal so you are going to say it was good anyway….. but I have been back several times and have yet to be disappointed by the quality of the food and the service provided when you walk through the door. There are many dishes on the menu that you don’t find on the other take aways menu which is a plus in my books. A change is good once in a while. I would say before you place a negative review for what ever reason for this take away, just remember the time you place an order, how busy they maybe, how much is your order, could you have gone down to place the order and collect instead of expecting a delivery as all of these and others reasons will ruin your meal before you start. So to close I am mightily impressed with this take away after a number of visits and will use it again. Can’t advise you if you have food allergies and if their food meets your requirement you will have to ask. I believe their prices have just increased to give you the heads up so not as to shock you when you go in to the shop.

Never again. Had the salt and pepper box. Just a load of deep fried bits of stuff. Looks like it was shaken to pieces. Maybe some of the other dishes would be ok but you only get one chance for a first impression. And cash only!!!.

Usually my go to place for a Chinese take away. Decent food, still hot when it arrives.

The best Chinese takeaway on the Waterside.

I have never left a review about food but this experience was pretty unpleasant. As my health is very unstable at the moment, I decided to get a takeaway for my little girl and I. I was rather taken aback when I called to order as the staff member who answered the phone was very curt and condescending when I asked any questions, but I assumed it was possibly because it was a Saturday & they were busy. The order was delivered and my daughter put some of the noodles and the egg fried rice on her plate. She had only had a few mouthfuls when she found a dark hair within the cooked egg in the egg fried rice. We then looked at the rest on her plate & were dismayed to find another, slightly lighter hair. I called immediately to explain the upsetting scenario and instead of being polite, the staff members response was condescending and curt & when I tried to explain politely that we could not eat the food, she spoke over me saying there was noone there with light brown hair. I kept trying to explain that the hair was within the egg and I could send photographs as proof but continued to be met with the same negative interpersonal style. She said their policy was to offer a 50% refund but I did not feel that was fair and asked to speak to her manager. This was refused as the manager was too busy however, I could hear her telling her staff what to say so was confused as to why she could not have spoken directly to me rather than continuing the 3 way ineffective conversation. In the timeframe this conversation was taking, the manager could have spoken directly to me & potentially resolved it in half the time. The staff member then asked for my bank details to which I said, please use the card I paid with. I was told this was not possible as I had to do a bank transfer. She immediately proceeded in reading out the bank account details but I explained I had to find a pen, yet again she did not appear to listen and continued stating the bank details. I am afraid at this point my patience was wearing thin and i explained that as a Senior Paediatric Ward Sister, I encounter many challenging conversations but am always polite and professional but sadly this has not been observed throughout this interaction at which point she hung up on me! I would urge you to talk to your employees and educate them on the right conduct and customer care. Please ask her to be more polite with customers as it will help your business grow, as happy customers are returning customers

Food is amazing. Service is as very good, very accommodating too. It’s the best chines for miles, and so handy being able to order on the website.

The worst chicken curry ive ever had.

It was a good takeaway delivery was on time, wasn't very personal I didn't really interact with anyone. Order online. Got free spring rolls and prawn crackers but I didn't want them and I didn't like them would have preferred a cheaper price. Food was good but a bit English Chinese I would prefer it to be more authentic. Will go one more time but order and collect down there.

For me best Chinese in the area...just a shame it's having to put prices up on a regular basis... cost of living! Can't afford to go often but always very happy with food when I do. Needs a few bargain dishes to drew people in.

The only okay things were the spring rolls & dumplings. We ordered chicken & mushrooms and beef & ginger and chicken chow mien. Apart from very overpowering onion in the beef dish they were both very very plain, almost flavourless. The meat was slimey. The chow mien was very slimy and had a very very weird taste so neither of us could stomach eating it. For spending nearly £50 we’re so disappointed and won’t be going back.

Just down here for the night and needed food, delivered to my truck within 20 mins and got to say it was the best Singapore chow mein I've had. Thanks

Very nice food, well the dish I ordered was. Will definitely return. Well, I have returned a few items and it is one of few places that make their food extra spicy when asked and without loosing any flavour.

Awful experience dreadfull costumer service we order at 1840 and it's 2040 £41 pound order and was told we were bacicly lieng will not recommend this also there is a good Chinese takeaway in Hythe with great cosmer services

It's alright but I'm sick of having to take out a £20 note every time I want a takeaway, it's 2022! Even the little Thai food van in Blackfield manages to accept card so why can't this place?

This was my 1st time using Happy Family chinese and I will certainly be back . The food was cooked well and very tasty one of the best Chinese takeaway I have ever had .my wife is a very fussy eater and she agrees with me. Well done and great service

First time ordering, got a menu through the door so thought we’d give it a go. Absolutely loved the fact you can order and pay online, more places need this. Food wasn’t the best Chinese I’ve had, though could be due to ordering from the same place for over 5 years. Love that there are lots of vegetarian options, although was strange to get a free item that contains meat when our whole order was vegetarian. The only food item I would say was bad was the pot of sweet and sour sauce. It wasn’t good at all. It was like a think syrup. It looked unnaturally pink and tasted more like strawberry jam. Definitely needs improvement. Everything else was pretty tasty, even are the leftovers the next day which we don’t usually do. Would order again, hope the sweet and sour sauce is improved and vegetarians are taken into account with free items. (Even if it means not receiving them to stop food being wasted)

This is the best takeaway I have had. The food is so fresh. Also you get a fortune cookie ha! They deliver as well

1st time I’ve used this takeaway.Ordered 3 chicken dishes and a beef dish with a few sides. Could not tell the difference between the 3 chicken dishes,they looked exactly the same with very horrible slimy chicken. Just ripped the menu up and straight in the bin. Definitely be using the Hythe ones in the future,Sooo much better and tastier.

Great takeaway, shame they upped their prices and the delivery threshold has been increased by £8 to £38. Also its cheaper to ring through your order than ordering on line, why? Finally, please get in the 21st century and accept card payments!

Service was good. I thought I'd have a long wait as they were very busy but that wasn't the case. Food was great! Will definitely be going again.

27/11/2 Update - my latest experience. I placed an order online, The time it said it would be ready was in 1 hour! I eventually went to collect it. and was told it was not ready and would be a further 5 minutes. ... 10 minutes after that it was finally ready. During the wait in the shop far from living up to it's name it was a freezing and depressing environment with sad looking customers, non happy looking front of house staff and there was permanent arguing heard from the back kitchen The place appears run as a shambles with no leadership. This time on getting the food home we found it bland with no authentic Chinese taste. I have made tastier myself and certainly quicker. I'll be going to another Chinese next time, but not for a while, personally I can not recommend this place. Food good & refurbished shop great but watch out for lousy customer service. I had a 40 minute wait for my order during which time I saw: * People who had ordered coming in to collect and having a 10-15 minute wait. * Orders being taken over the phone without names added which later made it difficult to give right orders to the right people * The order of tickets passed to the kitchen mixed up (not fifo) * No smiles & poor comms between the till staff & customers * Cash only transactions * food orders hanging around in heat bags waiting for delivery * People on the phone being told delivery not available and a 40 minute wait in place. Hopefully the can sort this out with some mature management in place

Without a doubt the best Chinese takeaway I have ever found and trust me I have tried many. Never ever had a bad dish from here. There is usually quite a wait for delivery but considering how good the food is its hardly surprising.

Waited 2hrs 30mins for a delivery. Called to be told they were just making it and it would 20mins. £80 on food for this ridiculous service.

This was the first time we have eaten from here. Myself and my partner had the best chinese meal we have ever had!! The King Prawns were big and juicy and very fresh tasting. The mixed sweet and sour balls were non greasy and generous portions too. Ordering online was easy followed by a fairly quick delivery. We will definitely be eating from here again. We highly recommend them.

Don’t usually order from happy family but did tonight, was absolutely lovely, really enjoyed the won tons and the prawn toast, no grease lovely and clean, staff over the phone so friendly, quick delivery and definitely now the usual Chinese we’ll order from. Big up Happy Families cmon!

Absolutely rubbish been waiting 3 hours and still no joy even ordered at 18:32 it’s now 21:37 still nothing never again

Unfortunately I have to give a star otherwise this place is awful, two hours for food to be arrived, not here so call them and going to be an extra 30 mins and the employee was rude

When being delayed 3 times and the times getting later and later, we decided to ring the takeaway and speak to someone to find out what was going on. First order was confirmed at 19:02 then email said delivery would be 20:50 then it was pushed back again to 21:09 then again after ringing them at 21:35 to find out what was going on. We were told it would be another half hour on top of the additional timings which probably wouldn't be true. I request a full refund and was told they can't do it via bank transfers which is how we paid ( by card) the dinlo on the phone needs a serious speaking to and her life sorting before getting a job in hospitality. This place needs to be checked and maybe cancel all online orders as it Is a separate company that runs the online ordering and payments. Avoid if possible ordering online. Ring and collect when possible.

Absolutely disgusting service. We've had Chinese from them before but picked it up, nice food. Ordered a delivery as not well and said 8.50pm, chased them up as didn't arrive. New time of 21.09, come 21.45 still no Chinese. Rang through and then got given another time, another half hour. Not acceptable at all. We've had to chase them up also. Customer service is beyond awful. Now have to wait 5-7 days for refund. Get your act together.

Haven’t had a Chinese takeaway for about a year as have tried many local Chinese takeaways and always disappointed. Tonight we decided to get a takeaway and Happy Family Chinese could deliver, I can honestly say it was tasty, fresh and thoroughly enjoyed it. I never write reviews but I was so impressed. We’re a returning customer from an hour drive away and it’s been a month, couldn’t stop thinking about the gorgeous food. The service was amazing, quick and food was unbelievable. Very vegetarian/ vegan friendly. The other reviews mention delivery issues which is not usually the businesses fault but rather the drivers. Highly recommended, made us a very happy family.

Ordered food at 18.09 said it will arrive by 20.08.. called at (20.55) to ask where my order is and they said another 25 minutes, it is now 21.35 and I just got my food. I cant complain about the food as it was delicious but the time wait is outrageous, I doubt I will order from them again, a Chinese shouldnt take over 3 hours to recieve ! If you cant cope with all the orders maybe just dont do deliveries

Delivery came 2 and a half hours past the delivery time that was stated in the email which was already 1 hour and 40mins. Was unable to contact. The food was okay.

Ordered online & decided to have it delivered. Understandably it was a Fri night so expected it to be busy. They have no facility to indicate how long it will take until you have parted with your money! We received an email to say that it would be 1hr 40mins before it would arrive. After waiting with anticipation (& very hungry by now) we received a call to say that it would be ANOTHER 20 mins (at least!!!) 2 hrs for a Chinese delivery is unbelievable & unacceptable! It seems this place has a major problem with timing issues - very simply, they shouldn’t accept orders & take your money if they can’t deliver the goods - literally!! Had to cook beans on toast after telling them to cancel it & give us our money back! Interestingly, their policy on the website states that they will deliver within a maximum 1hr 15mins - think they need to update it!

Must say was a tad late on delivery but what we finally got was gorgeous. Hot, correct and delicious. Really enjoyed by all. A few freebies thrown in too. Keep it up we'll be back soon. 😁

Food is excellent but do not plan your evening around the service. Last 3 orders have been very late..... The first one which was collected was 35 mins late and the last two for delivery have been over 1 hour late and currently 35 mins+. When complaining I was told that the boss is sorry, when asking to speak to the boss, I was refused.

Literally the worst chinese that has ever touched my lips! I love chinese curry, but this! Omg like translusent flavourless thin gravy, overloaded with chunky onion. So gutted, as we paid over the odds for delivery too at £6.00. Avoid at all costs

The worst Chinese meal I have ever eaten. Ordered sweet and sour pork, pork was minced and not actual pieces the sauce was synthetic in flavour and had no punch, lemon chicken was bland and without flavour, again a synthetic taste, chow mien was OK, rice was again ok, delivery was quicker than expected but all was only warm. I would recommend avoiding this takeaway

I ordered the seafood in garlic sauce and the hot and sour soup online. The seafood pan fry dish was very delicious with lots of fresh seafood (prawns, scallops, squid). The portion was big. I specially requested the hot and sour soup to be vegetarian and the chef did it for me. The soup was perfect to my liking. The food was ready within 5 mins of the pick up time. They were very good value of their quality.

Charge £3 for delivery charge for being over 4 miles away even tho I was 3.7 miles away. Ordered sweet and sour duck and asked if it was gluten free to be told the duck was not cooked in batter for it to come battered

Make sure you order AT LEAST 1hour 30 mins before you want it!! We ordered at 5:55pm and didn't receive our order until 7:55pm!!! Whilst the delivery time is awful (and they don't seem to care too much about it if you call up to enquire where your food is), the food itself is delicious!

We ordered £30 worth of food and didn’t realise we asked for hairs to be put in it! No thank you! When we realise we rang them and they offered £10 because of the hair I asked for a full refund and they replied with £10 I said no as we want full refund so they came to collect it and gave us full refund after they said no about 10 times this is so wrong health and hygiene needs to know about this

I ordered online at 18.50 no acknowledgement email so phoned at 19.30 and told it would be here at 20.30. Nothing by 21.30 so called and they said another 30 minutes as they've had lots of orders. They can't be doing orders as they come in.... they must know what orders they have and how can an hour become two and a half hours ? They've never got to grips with prioritising orders and timings but today takes the biscuit. Cancelled my order and won't be going back

Omg.....first time having a takeaway from this Chinese, and I got to say it was the best I have had in awhile. My only gripe is I was charged for the 3 miles radius when my house is 2.8 miles from the Chinese but hey you cant have it all!

Under new ownership since the last time we ordered (last visit put us off for a while!) So chuffed this place has turned it around. The food was fantastic, delivery was quick. The food was all varied and fresh. It was delicious. Everything we had was great, highly recommend.

Absolutely diabolical- ordered food at 6pm- told delivery would be at twenty to eight! No sign of any delivery at quarter past eight! Called them to check on order - told very abruptly by a young female that we had to wait another 40 minutes because they had walk in customers which had priority???? Would not ever use again! I've ordered from here a few times recently and have found the food to be good quality, tasty and always hot. The salt and pepper ribs are really flavoursome, as is the chicken in black bean sauce. However the place seems chaotic, whenever I go in the food is never ready when they say it will be. I order online and receive a follow up email saying when to collect BUT it is never ready on time - normally a further 10 minute wait which is both annoying and unnecessary. Would also help if the took card payments rather than cash only.My rating for the food alone would be 4*.

Work takeaway for 4 people. Food was nice and hot and very tasteful. Don’t like having to pay extra for hotter dishes but did enjoy the food.

Took 3 hours to deliver then told us to pick it up ourselves after twice promising half an hour. Family celebration to celebrate our daughters new job ruined. No apology, really rude, just blamed chef said couldnt understand each other as "they are Chinese" Also (illegally) no idea about allergens
