On route home I thought we'd stop and grab tea and maybe a cake. Unfortunately they were due to close. But as we walked into the cafe a lady literally slammed her cigarettes on a table and complained that we were walking down the hill and they were due close. Had to be the most unwelcome individual I've experienced. Fair enough if they going to close. But maybe explain nicely that sadly they were closing shortly instead of making it very obvious we were not welcome.

We have been to the cafe before as it’s better than M25 services.Nice food and coffee but the toilets are awful and need repairing or replacing the only thing that lets it down

This is a fantastic café. One of the few to have preserved the traditional family rodadside café of the last century. Before fast food chains and services engulfed us. Wonderfully authentic, unsmiling staff, immune to customers’ stupidities. ‘There’s the menu… choosek. Large breakfast (£10), small breakfast £7.50. Great value. We ate outside, in the shade of the lime trees. Look. I spend far too much time in hotels, where a full English is standard. The Hog’s Back Café breakfast was in a different league to ALL the rest. For a start, they cook the tomatoes properly. Cooked (not raw, warmed up) right through, and the open side is cooked to perfection, with a crisp dark caramelised crust. Everything else was equally good. And yes, the coffee was espresso, and also perfect. Worth a trip from anywhere in the Home Counties just to enjoy the experience! If you are taking the Hog’s Back, don’t fail to stop. ps - you approach travelling westbound. If you’re coming the other way, you will have to go past, and come back.

Can't knock this place for the food, it's spot on, the last 2 times I've called on a Friday it's been shut! Not good when you come here to park for the day when you could of parked elsewhere. I did Google it first too and it said open!

Phoned them direct to arrange for 1 x normal, 1x dairy free and 1 x gluten free cream tea and they were happy with that.

Beware the pies. Steak and ale pie only had 4 small cubed pieces of meat in it and all were gristle!!! Avoid the pie. Told staff straight away and they changed it for a burger for me and that was fine. Staff were great the place is a chain pub and was exactly what it says on the tin - just the pie to be fair. Also beware - U.K. law says you can be 16 to have alcohol with meal if you are with an adult, the server asked my 18 year old son for id (which he had) and I said he is definitely over 16 and was then informed that chef and brewer have over 18 policy for alcohol with meals. Which is fine but should be displayed on the website which it isn’t.

Good venue to meet up for lunch. Plenty of space as it was mid week. Need to know extra parking opposite behind Church Hall as limited in front otherwise.

I ordered a steak today and it was amazing and tender! I was able to meet the chef Charlie I think it was? Luckily was able to catch her as she went to the talk to the bar staff. And was able to pull her to one side where she told me she was the grill chef. Of which I told her that it was the best steak I’ve ever had! Absolutely amazing food!
