Hoghton Coffee Lounge in Sefton

We came to the coffee lounge this afternoon for our pre-arranged afternoon tea. I have had afternoon teas delivered from there on 3 occasions previously in Southport and they have always been excellent so we went with high expectations that one in the lounge would be equally good, if not better. Unfortunately it was extremely disappointing. I had contacted in advanced and paid deposits for each person and received an email from them detailing the menu but the afternoon teas contained no quiche or sausage rolls, no salad or crisps as had been promised and the sandwich selection was uninspiring (only cheese and pickle and ham). When we tried the scones they were cold, hard and stale and frankly inedible (we think the scones and very small pieces of cake had been previously frozen). The only option the waitresses could offer were 2 clingfilmed left over scones from the display cabinet between 4 people. She did say she had tried to contact the owner whilst we were there but received no reply. We live in Northampton and travelled several hundred miles to take our elderly parents out for a treat but were left feeling very disappointed. I emailed the owner but received no response.

A nice little place to sit outside with an iced coffee or smoothie on a sunny day. The pancakes are delicious and much more generously-sized than we had expected!

Such a lovely cafe...great food and coffee. The staff go above and beyond.... I was having a lot of pain with arthritis and I was given a hot water bottle to pop on my very sore hip. They were extremely kind. Our food was delicious too. We will certainly go again when we are in Southport.

Third occasion we have been turned away because they were supposedly busy.There were no more than a dozen people in the cafe so we were very disappointed.I hope the owner realises how much business is being lost. When we first started to visit for Sunday brunch it was excellent but, as this is the third occasion they have been too busy for us, we will not be returning. There are plenty of other places to visit in Southport thankfully.

As a surprise for Coronation Day, my son and daughter in law who were visiting from Jersey arranged for afternoon tea to be delivered to our home. It was excellent! Everything was freshly made, there was a great variety of sandwiches, cake etc and it was presented beautifully. We would definitely recommend and wouldn’t hesitate in ordering again or indeed visiting the shop.

Lovely dog friendly cafe, so good we returned the following day. Both had coffees, I had eggs benedict and hubby had Welsh rarebit and the dog had a couple of sausages. Staff were chatty and welcoming.

This is our go to place for an Afternoon Tea delivery. Amazingly tasty and fresh home made food every time. Cannot praise them highly enough. Absolutely delicious and really fabulous value too - the pieces of cake were enormous! Would highly recommend.

We do love this place and I've given it 5 stars so as not to bring down the rating. However, the lunch menu has changed and has compacted to just run of the mill offerings that you can get anywhere. We used to love the avocado with sour bread and eggs but that's all gone now. It's such a shame. We will still call in for coffee though just not to eat, so all is not lost.

Our friendship group took a party of twenty there on the 14th (Tuesday) and we all had an enjoyable time. Staff worked their socks off, with every seat in the place occupied. Their Carrot Cake and Baily's Hot Chocolate are to die for.

I enjoyed my recent visit to Hugo Lounge. I ordered the full English breakfast the food was delicious and the staff were friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend Hugo Lounge.

Excellent service, excellent and delicious afternoon tea. From the moment we walked in we received excellent service and the afternoon tea and Prosecco were amazing.

The Afternoon Tea was amazing and the service first class. It was our first visit and we are looking forward to coming back and will be watching out for themed events and to try some of the Cocktail too.

The staff greeted us and kept checking we were ok. We only had drinks but all were well presented and served with a smile. There was plenty of staff to wait on and we were served very quickly

We discovered this place in March, thoroughly impressed we are now regulars. Decent food and good coffee! I’m a massive coffee snob, I can’t stand weak coffee - this place can tailor the coffee. Lovely staff - they might just beat bistro Pierre here for best breakfast in Southport. Highly recommend

I was a very lucky recipient of a Mother's Day Afternoon Tea which was arranged by my daughter. The food arrived presented on a 3 tier cake stand, all items were beautifully presented and packed carefully for the delivery. Once opened, there was a fantastic selection of sandwiches, quiches, clotted cream scones, cakes, tea/coffee bags and also crisps, salad and chocolates! Wow, I was certainly impressed. It is described as Afternoon Tea for 2 but there was so much that 3 of us tucked in and enjoyed it. I will definitely recommend ordering this again as a treat for friends and family.

Can’t praise the delicious food highly enough! Or the presentation for that matter. Excellent value for money and a lovely selection of treats on offer. Got it for my mum for Mother’s Day and she absolutely loved it. Would highly recommend.

Visited Houghton Coffee Lounge today for lunch and were very impressed :) One of the best hot chocolates I have ever had and the hollandaise sauce on the eggs benedict was delicious too! We will definitely be back soon.
