Switched to Ho Lap House after years of using another Chinese Takeaway. Wow, I can't believe the difference. Service and delivery was faultless. The food was at a higher level than our previous Takeaway outlet. Please keep up the fantastic work

Great. Food. But allways. Arrives Cold. & not what you want when you order & take. Away. Just go to Best Wok. Msrtin square. Food. Is sllwayd 100%. & comes. Pipping hot. Okay tad more exspensive. But you get youre moneys. Worth.

I travel to many different places because of my management audit job nature, this time I’m in Maidstone. It’s my first time to try this takeaway shop, ordered chicken n sweetcorn soup, salt n pepper spareribs, special fried rice, king prawns spring onions n gingers, sweet n sour chicken in HK style. Guess what, the fried rice was one of the best I ever ate because it was dry n not too salty, size of the king prawns was truly the right size, btw, chicken sweetcorn soup was not salty at all. I’m too full for the spareribs now, I might eat them later or bring them back home tomorrow. Overall verdict, great taste, value for money and I’ll go back there again if I’m in Maidstone next time. 😊

Ordered from here a few times and every time it’s got worse waited over an hour for the delivery man and the food was cold , chips soggy and all the juices had run out of the containers into the bag . Don’t think I’ll bother anymore

So this used to be my absolute favourite id order weekly. I don’t know why their standards have dropped so low on their food quality it tastes like it’s fried in dirty old oil, I don’t know if I have changed the chef but it is absolutely disgusting now the curry sauce smelt like a perfume. The only thing that was consistent was the vegetable rolls because they’re frozen and I even had the pleasure of old dry stale chips. With deep fried spuds eyes on them, can’t say I’m ever gonna order from there again. Such a shame as It used to be really nice.

Great food every time especially their fried squid and their fried rice/noodle dishes. We go every other week and they haven't disappointed yet! Unfortunate about price increases but can't expect them to keep the same prices when everyone else is driving them up. Besides, the meals are worth the price :)

Have not had a takeaway from here in a while now and tbh wish we hadn’t bothered. We asked for pork chow men in gravy and received just a pork chow mein which was dry and unapettising. The rice was tasteless and the chicken in our meal was rubbery. On top of that they have put their prices up. I won’t be bothering with this establishment again. There are much better food places that provide value got money and are much more enjoyable.

Such a shame, I was really looking forward to them reopening, but I ordered a shredded chilli beef, small egg fried rice and crispy seaweed, and it came to over £21. I ordered directly with them and picked up. I can’t justify that again for Chinese takeaway for 1.

We've purchased a takeaway from Ho Lap twice now. Since it's so hard to find a decent one in the area, we went on recommendation. The first order wasn't too bad, and probably the only decent one out of all the takeaways we've tried recently. However, our second order yesterday was somewhat disappointing. As others have mentioned, everything seems to taste the same. There's no 'freshness' about any of their food. Everything is overcooked and quite hard, and literally breaded, battered, and deep fried. Even the meat in the special fried rice, which, although had a nice flavour, had hard bits of meat in it. I really fancied the salt and pepper chicken wings, and yet they turned up breaded, which isn't clearly stated on the menu. The salt and pepper king prawns are really good, though. To me, it seems they haven't got a chef who knows how to cook Chinese food, and they simply deep fry everything on the menu. Sadly I think our search will have to continue, as this place isn't cheap either.

Love the food and always quick. However prices have shot up. What normally costs £28-29 for a take out now costs £39.50! I know that you restaurants need to increase prices - however 33% increase it going a bit over the top. That may be the last takeout from here for some time. Very sad times.

My regular order has gone up in price from £13:10 to £17:00. Won’t be coming back with that sort of price hike Hi Yau Gai Po Special Chow Mein Pancake Roll Outrageous I’m afraid

Nice food at a reasonable price, friendly service

The food here is authentic, tasty and really hits home for me. It tastes much better than all the Cantonese restaurants I've been to in London (and better value). The owners are also super friendly and nice! I'll be making sure I come back regularly to satisfy my cravings for Cantonese food :).

The food was good the service was good and quick

This really should get 1/2 a star. However, I have been a customer of Ho Lap House for 5 years and slowly the quality has dwindled along with the menus. I bought 3 starters and a main meal from here and they all tasted the same, apart from the duck that was missing the pancakes. This is not the first time this has happened; sometimes it’s the hosin sauce, the sliced accompaniments or the pancakes! This will be the last time I spend my money there.

Used so many times and it’s getting worse. Slimy satay chicken . £50.00 worth but no prawn crackers. Just a let down again and will be sure to try a new one next time.

Order starter potion for 2. About enough sea weed for a child potion at best. Tiny pot. Satay chicken doesn’t come with satay sauce. So it’s just dry chicken. False advertising. Food was dry and expensive. Do not order. Much nicer and friendlier Chinese’s in the area.

Sorry I won’t be eating here again no taste no flavour and left a unpleasant taste in my mouth and 40 minute wait for 2 dishes is not acceptable

Food is lovely but it is an absolute nightmare to get through on the phone. Why on earth Ho Lap House doesn't have an "order online" facility is beyond me.

Really lovely place. Staff are super friendly and literally learn your name without you having to say it when you phone in! Yes I am a regular but they do it to a lot of people. Food is really good, hence becoming a regular!

I'd like to recommend the shredded chilli beef in batter and, for the healthy eater, Singapore chow mein.

We ordered delivery on a Wednesday evening and were told it would take 45 minutes to an hour. When it had not arrived after an hour and 15 minutes I called to ask if it was on it's way. The man I spoke to was incredibly rude on the phone, he actually used the phrase "we have more than one customer " and told me he was too busy to know when the delivery driver had left and seemed just generally annoyed that I was even asking. When I said I had been told it would be no more than an hour, he responded that it wasn't him that told me that, so why was I even saying it. I am genuinely amazed at the shocking customer service and they way he spoke to me. The food arrived shortly after and the delivery guy was far more apologetic and friendly. However, the food was distinctly average and with phone service like we received we will not be using them again.

Ordered from here at 6pm took over an hour to be delivered. Ordered two crispy chilli beef. Once it had arrived there was only one. I called over 100 times to try and get through to ask for the second. Once I eventually got hold of someone was implied I was lying and I wouldn’t be getting my second one. Turned out they had made a mistake and only put one on the order but had confirmed two with me. She then told me her staff don’t make mistakes and that I was wrong. She told my she could deliver my second but would charge me for her mistake. She tried telling me that if everyone wanted free they wouldn’t be in business which I understand but it wasn’t my fault that they had made a mistake. Was spoke to rudely throughout the whole call and absolutely disgusted with the customer service. Will not be ordering again.

We have been using this place for a while and it was always decent. However last night it was very poor - nothing was hot hot, the chicken had a jelly/sponge like texture (perhaps it had been boiled?), the duck and plumb sauce was very fat (not rendered at all) with a flavourless plumb sauce. The honey ribs must have come from a very small pig - normally you get 3 or 4 huge meaty ribs. £4.60 for seaweed is also very steep. I think it's time for us to part ways now. Not for me.

Food is always lovely here would recommend. It's the best in the area by far and if the chairs are stain a little you won't be eating your food off them will you. Harry and Kim love your cooking xx

best Chinese in the whole of the realm

Best chinese in the area. I've tried them all but they win by miles. Love the chicken curry and chicken balls especially.

I use this place regularly and so do my family. The food is always piping hot and delicious. Harry is really friendly and chatty and an excellent cook. We always get good value for money and the prices are very reasonable. It helps living close when I’m pregnant and have a Chinese food craving. The only thing my husband says is they could sell chopsticks .

There are few Chinese takeaways as good as this one. I've eaten here about 10 times now and every time the food has been perfect. This is proper chinese food I know because I cook this stuff myself. I've noticed through experience that some people prefer cheap Chinese pulp if you do you may be disappointed as this is the real deal. I can only assume that the negative reviews are the people that like the cheap pulp and don't understand what good Chinese cooking is.

I'm really fussy about take always.. every time I've ordered here it's been first class .. credit where it's due..

Have had a few meal for here over the year and each time there’s problems! Ordered a £36 meal here and 3/4 of it was inedible, the food tasted of absolutely nothing ! It was the worst Chinese I’ve ever had and lukewarm at best , will never waste my money here again !

had the set meal for 1 with seaweed. The set meal came with plain boiled rice which was in one big clump, the chicken chop suey was absolutely flavourless and bland, the crispy chicken balls were like soggy bread in the middle, the sweet and sour sauce tasted like sugar water and the crispy seaweed was tasteless. Worse Chinese I've ever had, total waste of money will not be going back.

Food is always consistent. I cannot recall ever having a bad meal from Ho Lap House and portion sizes are reasonable, if you want a buffet size meal then go to Buddha Belly. Of course it's possible to get orders wrong on occasion, other local takeaways ive ordered from have offered to correct the order but have asked that i come back to collect the dish which is totally unacceptable, but on the 1 occasion when this happened with Ho Lap House they have dealt with it by sending out the missing dish for delivery immediately, irritating but resolved quickly and efficiently. Overall this is the best chinese takeaway I have ever been been to and they always do a great job and food is delicious.

One of the best Chinese takeaways in the area. Ordered from here last night - food was piping hot and didn’t wait long. No issues at all. Had tried another take away from an expensive restaurant not far from here and this beats it hands down!! Food tastes great!!

This Chinese is one of the best in the ME20 locality, consistently delivers quality food every time. I highly recommend you try for yourself. Now that we have found the Ho Lap Chinese we are staying with them. Not the cheapest but definitely the best. .

Very disappointed and over priced, not what expected, no satay sauce with special starter charged at £5 each. I’ve always had this with any Chinese. Ordered a large rice got a small so one of us did not have any. Food not very warm either.Best thing about this delivery was the prawn crackers! Will not be returning.

Brilliant food, shame about the staff and service. Several occasions deliveries have been sent out with missing items or completely wrong, when complaining all you receive is rudeness and sarcasm. Absolute let down considering the food is actually quite nice. Have given this place multiple chances and spoken to them more than once and these things keep happening and rudeness persists. Terrible service.

Have had a few takeaways from here and have to say they are very nice. But i ordered a chinese last night and received there new menu with the new prices. I was very dissapointed. Althrough i understand prices increasing, I think they have gone up way to much. Some stuff has gone up by 80p. My normal order cost £28.50 but with new price now cost £31.50 so £3 for 5 items. Some stuff is not to bad. But chow mein up 50p

Absolutely terrible! Never will I order from this place again, my beef curry tasted like burnt plastic but unfortunately I had already put it all over my dinner, as a result my whole dinner was un edible so phoned ho lap house back to see what they could do to resolve the issue and all I got was attitude and abuse! I do believe there is something wrong with the curry and will be sending it off for testing, would defiantly advise people to stear clear of this place

Ordered at 18:20 - told would be 40 mins; as a Friday night we we're happy with the wait time. Called back at 19:15 as no delivery - to be told they haven't started cooking our order yet and couldn't give an estimated time of delivery so we cancelled the order. Man on phone didn't care - said ok and hung up. We're really disappointed as we've only ever had good food and excellent service in the past

Have been having food from Ho Lap house since I could eat Chinese. Would never ever ever order from anyone else. Best Chinese about. Pay no attention to people slating new owners. Portion sizes are just right. The prices have not gone up very much. I barley even noticed. Staff are very very friendly. I have never had a bad word to say about this restaurant. Also give the chilli chicken dry a try. It's delicious!

Late last year we had a menu posted through our door so thought we would give them a go rather than use the usual selection from Just-eat etc. Very pleased with order exactly as specified, no generic dishes all matching descriptions and seemed to be put together in a tried and tested fashion. The chicken chow mein I ordered was the best I have tasted in a long time - really delicious. Our second order when asked if I would like anything else I joked yes - if it is free...they added a bag of fortune cookies to my order which was a very nice touch. I would certainly recommend them. Much better than our local and if they can keep it going then I would be delighted to see them online.

This is our local take away, a good menu and the food is great.If its delivered or I go down and collect it its never too much of a wait ,if its delivered its always within the time scale and never late.

What has happened to this place! We have been using this take away for over 30 years! The previous owner kept this place looking nice with good food at great prices... Since it's been taken over, the place is grubby, a mess and so uninviting! Cables all across the ceiling, dirty chairs and... Well looking like a dive! The food has for very poor and the portion sizes have got much smaller!! The price of the food has gone up, making it one of the more expensive takeaways in the Malling area. Also... Charging people to pay by card in the 21st century is just wrong and a bad business decision as only 8% of money today is actually physical cash! ... So I'm afraid you have lost my business and so I won't be recommending you to people as I once did!

Great food-the shop is a bit uninspiring to look at, but the food is very good and the people very friendly. I especially like the Singapore Rice Noodles, the Crispy beef is great too.

We have been using ho lap house since moving to the area 8 years ago and have recommended it to just about everyone.however since new owners have taken it over in the last few months,it has become less value for money.prices have been raised and portions downsized.the quality I'm afraid to say is no where half as good as it once was.maybe it's just teething problems and I will review again in a few months time.bring back the last owners !!!!!
