Delicious as always. Can't reccomend a better 'chippy'. Reccomended it to a work mate and ge travels to come. Chips were nice, large and tasty. On previous visits I've had a veriety of the loaded chips which again were proper tasty. The fish batter is like nothing I've ever had. It's light and really crispy, just how it should be. Sometimes other places it can be quite soggy and heavy but not here. 100% would recommend.

A lovely gentleman in a tight women's top greets us so, as the TV above him shadows down images of cyberbullying. 5 fish and chip please, the gentlemen exclaim, echose of reminisce linger from last time. "Coming right up!", says the mysterious server. As we wait for a short while, we anticipate goodness, as good as the Lorax (a very good movie by the way). Salt or vinegar, the server in a normal top asks. Salt please, I don't like vinegar in 2023. As we tuck into our award-winning delecacy, we slowly begin to recognise the server and his tight fitted women's top. Is that the man from the BBC top 10 fish and chip show? The one who is dragged to acca on occasion. Could it be? The amazing Max Povey, food served from a literal demi-god! But all good things must come to an end, and the Maximus Povey sends verbal daggers into me. "I am leaving Herds, have you heard?" We scream and cry as he laughs that classic grim, what a shocker! We leave Herds in a state of distress, but full, and as much as we recommend, to come back may give us flashbacks. Food 10/10, Mental State 0/10

Very friendly staff and pretty incredible fish and chips, just what you need on a Friday 👍 Lemonboy18 and zach enjoyed it very much. Edit: A year later we have visited once again and oh boy was it lovely, zach, TheRobGaming, Drcrazypig and The Lorax absolutely loved their fish. A wonderful boy was working at the counter and if I recount correctly his name was max it would be shame if he were to leave.

Lovely fish and chips, friendly staff, and it's absolutely packed every time we go. Fresh and delicious. They have quite an extensive menu for a chippy with some options for those that want gluten-free. Loyalty cards scheme is available so I advise you take advantage.

The BEST Fried fish I have EVER had. That was delicious the fluffier golden light GLUTEN FREE battery and a huge tasty fresh fish. Needs 10* I have bought some "bake at home" GLUTEN free pies too can wait to try them. 10/10 all round

After a morning shopping in Halifax I decided it would be good to eat. A quick search found this place (I'm Coeliac so must get gluten free) What a great find! Freshly cooked gluten free fish chips and peas and g/f vinegar. Great batter and all very hot and not greasy. To cap it all very friendly welcome and conversation while we waited briefly. You really can't go wrong going here g/f or not - you wont tell the difference! They have quite a large g/f menu so we will definitely be back.

yet another visit and great grub, had a fish butty with matching tea cake just a great butty, partner had fish un chips she couldn't eat it all, but enjoyed by us both... yes am the guy who asked about the fish weight? .. look forward next time I'm area. thank you

Thought I’d leave a review usually the food is excellent being I suffer with mild coeliac disease however on this occasion they sent the wrong items firstly the batter looked different to the usual gluten free one I get there were no tags on the wrapper to say it was gluten free like they usually put on I spoke to the woman on the phone who said it was definitely gluten free but I didn’t end up eating it £20 wasted

This is one of the top gluten free fish and chip takeaways that I’ve ordered from. Not only does the menu go above and beyond the choices that any other fish and chip shop offer for gluten free options but the staff are friendly and pride themselves on their knowledge of gluten free availability as well. It’s such a treat to have a number of options such as gluten free fried halloumi, curry sauce, gravy and loaded fries. The staffs confidence in gluten free offers makes the whole experience so much more enjoyable. We have ordered from the ‘Deliveroo’ app also, which suggests a gluten free menu, but doesn’t have ‘gf’ next to the orders (having been burnt before at different restaurants) I rang up to make sure it had gone through as Gluten Free. The staff were already on it, ensuring me it was, with lovely customer service. On arrival, all gluten free orders were in a different bag to the other orders with defined ‘gluten free’ tape on each box - like paradise to my eyes! These experiences really go above and beyond for a gluten free person eating out and it’s appreciated all the way. Honestly the best fish and chips in the area, great value for the size of the portion the fish was fried to perfection, can’t wait to visit again.

We visited this fish & chip shop a couple of weeks ago after seeing it recommended by someone in a Facebook group for gluten- free food places in the UK. I can exaggerate enough how fantastic our meal was! My partner had traditional fish and chips and said it was the best he’s ever had. I had gluten-free battered halloumi, chips, mushy peas and proper chip-shop curry sauce and it was so good! Been craving it again ever since 😅 So happy to have found somewhere local that not only caters for gluten free diets but also vegetarians! Reasonable pricing too as a takeaway treat. Very friendly. Highly recommend!

A sneaky Tuesday lunch at Hirds chippy with my girl - what a pleasant surprise!? We were greeted by friendly staff, ordered a chip butty and small fish & chips & mushy peas (plenty big enough for us)… Everything was cooked quickly to perfection and whilst we waited we had a giggle with Max over his tight-fitting women’s top. I can completely see why they’re award-winning (mainly for the fish, of course!). We’ll be back! Thank you.

Well located along the main road and they are such lovely family run Award winning neighbourhood fish & chips shop! Everything is freshly prepared and cooked to order! ONE OF THE BEST we have eaten.... such Delicious flavour 😋! We tried a few things on the menu and everything is amazing 👏 highly recommended if you are around the area and we would be keen to visit again 😀

This place is a complete joke. Charging 6.50 for a fish without chips and its frozen fish !! the battered sausage was just mush inside concrete batter. 2.85 for small chips!?!? how they won any awards is beyond me!!

Best gluten free fish and chips I’ve had , being celiac is always a bit of a risk when getting a takeaway, not now , these are the cream of the crop. The fish was absolutely superb with a really nice crispy batter, the chips looked as good as they tasted and I even managed to get a bottle of g/f vinegar,which was a bonus as most shops that do g/f fish and chips don’t have the vinegar, we all know salt and vinegar is a must with fish and chips. Excellent service by friendly owners and staff. I would highly recommend a visit and will certainly be back myself shortly.

Excellent fish and chips, batter on fish is light, crispy and not greasy at all. Fush is good quality. Also very good burgers and gyros, nice to have the option of haloumi rather than meat.

Got a fish butty yesterday and when i opened the paper there was a black hair in it. I would have taken it back but it takes forever to get served in there and it was full of customers. In the bin it went, waste of my money.

We’d been to a so called restaurant not ten minutes away and turned away in disgust at the prices and service, so headed here. What a lovely business. Friendly and obviously popular. Chips cooked in oil and lovely . So many gluten free options I was dazzled! Amazing gravy and scraps. Chatted to the owner about being coeliac and how pleased I was to find a totally understanding chip shop that caters for gluten free people. They’ve even got the vinegar. Well done Hird’s x

So, many people know that for the best fish & chips you have to go to Yorkshire. But once in Yorkshire, what then? Go to Hirds Family Fisheries. You will be amazed how good it can be. The Hird's are the ninja's of Fish and Chips. They make it look easy but don't be fooled, they are on a different level than everyone else. They really deserve 6 stars. Pro tips: go when it's busy between 5 and 6, skip lunch, don't try try to dislodge chips that are stuck to the paper with a plastic fork.

A beautiful day with my good friends was capped off by a great serving of fish and chips, from none other than hirds family fisheries. Me and my friends throughly enjoyed our meal, and had a 5 minute long conversation with their worker, who went by the name Max. Max was a great laugh and we believe he is in desperate need of a raise. I would rate the experience a 10/10, and can’t wait to return for more of their great food. Wonderful stuff guys ! We always go here when we are over that way. Their Gluten Free options are amazing and no one else offers the same strict controls to food prep and the food is always fantastic.

My first experience with Hirds Family Fisheries. Absolutely delicious food! I ordered gluten free fish and chips and wasn't disappointed with the taste or quality in the slightest. Customer service was excellent, staff were friendly and efficient - with ordering gluten free I expected to be waiting a while, but it was pretty much on hand like a regular portion of fish and chips and once I'd placed my order, I was in and out of the shop within minutes. The only reasons I've given four stars is because I would've liked to have been able to have my order delivered to West Vale and when using one of the delivery apps, it said that the area wasn't covered, whilst the other app bumped up the overall price to almost double the cost of what I paid for delivery (completely understand that this is probably out of your control). Also, the boxes for the food are great, but definitely don't maintain the heat as well when not wrapped in paper, so despite a short trip home, I ended up heating up in the microwave. I was able to pay contactless, which was great and is important to me as a customer as I generally don't carry cash. It's also one of the only places (if not the only place) in Halifax where I've been able to find gluten free fish and chips so easily, so I'd like to thank you so much for being an inclusive company! It was so refreshing to see how close you are as a company, there was definitely a great family feel! I will definitely be returning in the future 😃

After a trip to the park in Halifax with the boys, we googled the best chippy near me and we weren't let down at all. Fish was fresh and crispy and everything else was lovely too, would recommend the Irish curry sauce nom nom. Ladies serving were lovely and very accommodating :) we will definitely see u again when in the area
