Hinnies Restaurant in North Tyneside

First time visiting Hinnies and what a lovely place. Staff were very friendly and welcoming. Me and the husband had the 2 course afternoon meal, both had the Main then dessert. I had the the Pan roast chicken with potato gratin spring veg it was delicious the flavour was soo nice. My husband had the 6oz Steak chips with bordelaise sauce he fully enjoyed it Steak was cooked well done perfect sauce was a lovely flavour. Then we had the sticky toffee pudding with ice cream with was lovely. I had the Coconut panacotta which couldn't taste it with roast pineapple which was lovely mango biscotti was to hard for my teeth 😆all in all we fully enjoyed our meal definitely go back when visiting whitley Bay.

Finally, we got to visit Hinnies after being defeated by COVID and changes to opening hours on our previous forays north. The menu has a good choice of dishes very reasonably priced at £31 per head for three courses. For starters, I had the black pudding scotch egg which came with nice a runny yolk although I would have preferred more than a smear of the rhubarb ketchup. The good lady was very satisfied with her cod fritter. For mains she had the steak and chips served with a fantastically rich bordelaise sauce. I went for the pan haggerty which was elegantly served with poached egg, mustard sauce and seasonal greens. The sauce was a little lacking in substance not helped by the residual water leaking from the overcooked egg. For desert the wife had the singing hinnies. While I chose the steamed ginger pudding with marmalade ice cream. The sponge was not warm which made it rather dense. The marmalade ice cream was actually ice cream with a (generous amount) of marmalade sauce. While the issues over food quality were all pretty minor we did feel that the dishes did the bare minimum and lacked a wow factor. The service was quite perfunctory. At no point during the meal were we asked if everything was OK. The waiter also had a habit of leaning across the diner when serving. The experience overall left us feeling a little flat. However I will point out that the restaurant was very busy on a Wednesday evening and everyone we spoke to prior to our visit highly recommended Hinnies. Maybe we caught them on a bad night?

Little gem of a restaurant. We are visiting the area. Booked a table for dinner online. Fantastic menu with lovely local dishes and produce. The food was delicious and cooked to perfection. The price is even more outstanding. £31 for 3 courses. Would cost double that where we live in Birmingham. The service was fantastic. Our server was such a lovely, friendly, guy. Sorry I didn't ask his name. If you were working on Tuesday 6th May thank you! You made our evening very enjoyable. Will definitely return if we visit the area again

First visit here and so impressed. So much to choose from if you don't eat meat. Lots of veg and fish options. Lovely environment, lovely waiting staff. Can't wait to go back. Thanks

Absolutely delicious meal, we all thoroughly enjoyed. Especially the Cod with spicy patatas bravado and padron peppers!

Food was lovely and a decent price. We had a bottle of water brought to the table. We did notice that other tables had their water poured and were told what specials they had on the menu. We did not. Although that is just a small thing. Otherwise it was nice

The most delightful restaurant on the seafront!! Stunning fresh food presented beautifully and the staff could not have been more helpful. As a gluten free diner the staff were hugely reassuring about separate cooking in the kitchen to avoid cross contamination, happy to point out GF options and willing to adapt some options which were not naturally GF. High quality food at a reasonable price. We had a fabulous experience and would thoroughly recommend this lovely restaurant!! Thanks xx

Lovely atmosphere great menu excellent customer service. The four of us thoroughly enjoyed our lunch at Hinnies. The starters main courses and desserts were all delicious. Black pudding, Scotch egg, rhubarb ketchup starters followed by 2 Roasted venison haunch and 2 Whole grilled sole the steamed ginger pudding all delicious and cooked to perfection. Table service was friendly and very professional. All round very good value for money and arguably one of the nicest meals Ive had in Whitley Bay

The Sunday lunch was excellent-plentiful, well cooked,high quality ingredients. Service throughout was friendly,professional and attentive.

We were celebrating a family birthday. A nice touch was the birthday card on the table for the birthday girl! Lovely food from a very varied menu which made it hard to choose!! We’ll just have to come back to try the other choices…😀. Staff were very attentive,friendly & knowledgeable. Will definitely return in the near future. Thank you.

We love our restaurants and happened to come across this one by chance on a quick night stop over, really genuine high class food at reasonable prices, great service and atmosphere, I particularly loved the ham terrine starter and rump steak main, and great background music, 5 out of 5

Had a lovely Sunday lunch with my daughter today. The food was amazing and the atmosphere and friendly staff made it really special.

Sadly after a great experience with the girls, I took my husband for his birthday and it was total opposite. We had the 2 course lunch, my started was the cod fritter which was claggy on top of a dry corn bread it was impossible to eat without a drink, needs a sauce to make it easier to eat. The black pudding scotch egg had by my husband was nice but stone cold. We then waited an hour for our mains whilst the kitchen focused on preparing meals for their social media posts. We saw 4 dishes come out of the kitchen, including the fish of day which my husband had ordered, all go sailing past us to the member of staff at the front of the restaurant to take photos of in different settings! Eventually our mains came out, my chicken was ok a little lacking of seasoning, the potatoes were delish. My husband's cod of the day was however raw halfway through and totally translucent. The hand cooked chips looked like the scraps out of the bottom of a bag of frozen chips, however they were hot! The waiter kindly comped my husband's meal, but I can't stop feeling that if the chefs and the marketing staff member had paid as much care and attention to their actual customers, rather than their social media content then we would have had a much better experience. On that basis we will not be back.

First time visiting this restaurant lack of parking was a bit of a problem as I'm disabled and can't walk far before I need to stop and rest had there not been road works on same road I may have been able to use my blue badge Food was very nice but small portions Pleasant atmosphere and staff where very friendly. I probably would give it another go sometime.

Outstanding, arrived an hour early and they accommodated us. Service from Laney was special, chatty and made it her business to find out what she could about Gluten Free. Food was soooo good, 3 courses of deliciousness and a free glass of bubbles for our anniversary. Cannot wait to go back again. Gorgeous little place on the coast but a full house!

the wait for food was so long one of our party had to have their sunday lunch boxed up, despite arriving with a 1.5hr window in which to eat. the food was tasty, but waiting 30 minutes for starters then another 50 minutes after that for mains is a bit silly. and the kids stottie pizza is HALF a MINI stottie, I'm talking 8cm diameter, enough for a toddler at most, combined with a ladle of tomato soup £12 for the pair does not provide good value, i had to get my kids (4 and 8yo) some chips at the chippy after we left

Relaxed atmosphere and great food. We had breakfast (Hinnies Belter) which was delicious and served piping hot. Couldn't fault anything - highly recommended!!!

From walking in it had a warm and welcoming feel. Great restaurant with plenty of options for gluten free dining. My partner booked ahead - recommend doing this. Lovely atmosphere with very knowledgeable and attentive staff. Food and drink was gorgeous. They even have a gluten free beer on the drinks menu. I had the haggis scotch eggs and braised beef - they were truly lush.

I've been a few times, usually lunchtime. The food is always good and seasonal. The staff are friendly and professional. I'm taking my cousin the next time she visits from the Cotswolds. I will recommend Hinnies to friends and family.

5 of us visited for the first time today 18th dec. We had a mixture of meals from the Christmas menu, everything was perfect, the restaurant has a lovely cosy feel and we all thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon, we will definitely visit again.

A regular visitor to Blackfriars and Dobson and Parnel , wanted to visit Hinnies a sister restaurant for a while and was not disappointed , dishes very well presented , great staff and overall relaxed atmosphere , fine dining but in an unfussy relaxed environment , particular compliments to Amy and Marnie who looked after us well , thanks for a great night

Best Christmas dinner in a restaurant Everyone in our group found the food delicious from the gravy, the veg and the meat. Couldn’t fault it. The wine pairing was also a nice touch. Had to ask for cranberry sauce. Atmosphere was a lovely buzz

A very nice looking restaurant that's great value for the quality of food you get. Portion size is just right to be able to enjoy a full 3 course meal without feeling stuffed nor wanting more. I noticed the dessert I had (creme brullee) had less sugar making a it more palatable than the overly- sweet versions elsewhere. A regular favourite of mine .

All was excellent except the lack of any heat inside It was bitterly cold outside and we told waitress how cold my 90 year old mother was so put us by a radiator . Discovered it was not on and asked for some heat please told would sort then was not Fed back after we paid bill that we where cold throughout then told that radiator was broken !! As we left I felt the other radiator as we left and that was also cold . It did spoil our experience and my elderly mother used my big scalf wrapped around her legs but she was still cold . They have everything right here except the heating . We won't be returning until this is resolved

Good size menu, we chose tge 3 courses which was very nice. Portion sizes could have been a little bit bigger for me which is why I had 3 courses. Drinks were quite expensive. Service was very good, staff really friendly. Would go back

Another lovely meal at Hinnies. We were celebrating mine and my husband’s birthdays and received an unexpected glass of complimentary fizz on arrival. Excellent value £29 for the evening menu. All three courses were delicious. The service was friendly and attentive.

Ages since I've been to Hinnies. The lunch special is very good value. The food was delicious, the staff were very friendly and polite.

Good food in a busy restaurant regularly turning tables on a Sunday dinner time. Surroundings could have been cleaner and disappointing in a good quality restaurant to have several dogs around us (sorry).

Expensive for the little amount you get. We paid £5 for a side of chips that had no more than 10 overcooked chips that tasted greasy. Drinks are extortionate and while I was giving the girl my order off the menu, the lady just placed our drinks on top of my menu while I was reading from it which I thought was extremely rude, and she didn’t even apologise. Will not return.

Great food, with a North East theme. Best compliment I can pay is to say: "It was canny".

Very welcoming team, decor and ambiance of the restaurant was good. Menu choice and value for money was spot on. We opted for the set menu, food was served hot and we didn't feel rushed. Food quality and portion size was perfect. Visited on a Tuesday evening and the place was almost full, so very popular. Would highly recommend to others, if we are in the area again yes we would definitely chose to eat here .

Food here was absolutely delicious, starter and main were served promptly and piping hot, dessert did take quite a lot longer to come and we all felt sticky toffee pudding was overdone which is why it wasn’t 5 stars Would definitely recommend though and would definitely return

Staff were helpful and friendly. Fishcake starter nice and chicken main nice, quite salty gravy but tasty. Fish nice for main but chips were awful, dry not fresh.

The food was delicious with an excellent choice and was well presented. The table service was attentive and prompt. The only issue was we were rushed out. This was probably because it was Friday night and exceptionally busy due to the special off of restaurant week.

Excellent service, non intrusive staff but when needed straight over to the table. Very relaxing atmosphere, refreshing. Food was lovely, fresh and tasty. Delightful evening, a small niggle is that some of the seating is a bit cramped , didn’t spoil the whole experience though !

We had a lovely Sunday dinner with family. Food was good. Could have had bit more vegetables and prefer roast potatoes well done but otherwise very nice. Service was excellent. Fantastic lunch for 4 people and a baby. My parents got lost en route so ended up being over half hour late by time we ordered. Was no problem and the food was delicious. Will be back for sure
