Another enjoyable visit. Although we arrived at a very busy time the staff were courteous and polite. We had prebooked our table so no problem getting seated. Our meal arrived in a reasonable time given how busy it was and was delicious. This was not the case for a party of 3 who could not find a table. One of the party was a particularly objectionable women. She complained about everything and was very rude to the staff. The staff coped admirably with her remaining professional. When asked one of the staff if she was OK, she looked visibly upset, she apologised to us! We will be back

Usually very good quality food. Very disappointed this time, not the usual standard. Dumpling was a little hard, carrots were undercooked. Coffee was extremely strong. Not a lot of desserts to select from. With it being Mother’s Day and tabled reserved, I thought they would have more to choose from. Sorry but not good today 😢 even my mam didn’t enjoy her chicken dinner.

Our family decided to walk to Hill Head Saturday morning as it was a lovely bright day and were wanting to check out in he dog agility park. That was our first mistake as there is no pavement along the he road to the cafe. So after negotiating long grass, cars and the mountain of discarded rubbish clearly thrown from cars we made it there. Sadly we left without having breakfast as it is not a dog friendly cafe (next to a dog park?!) and is really not the kind of menu we like. These days there are so many wonderful cafes/tea rooms to choose from with a more modern healthy twist it’s not for us. Its decor, unwelcoming service and dated fare is better suited to my almost 90 year old Nanas generation. Which is fine if that’s your target market, however we were the only people at the cafe by 10am on a Saturday morning. Take what you want from that.

Slow service and waiting staff are less than cheery, food average overall. The worst thing was the atmosphere. It was dire, creepy decor, too hot and cramped. Not a good experience, there are far nicer tea rooms and cafes in the area wouldn’t waste your money as it is also quite pricey for what it was

I took my disabled parent and we found a table but after 10 minutes we had no service. I went to the counter to ask and was advised that it was table service but after another 10 minutes still no one had taken our order with during this time a member of staff had spent some time chatting to her friends on the next table. We decided not to stay and on our way out I complained to a member of staff who said sorry, but clearly from her tone of voice, there was no sincerity, we will certainly not be returning.

Butter is served atop the scone and jam available on request. Lattes were excellent and a good size pot of tea for two with a handy pot of hot water. Great service. We bought fresh eggs to take home and our friends bought a slice of cake to take away.Lots of people were coming in for lunches as we left and everything we saw looked appetising and attractively presented. This utterly charming tearoom has the feel and atmosphere of years gone by - it has a country chic all of its own. It’s situated in pretty countryside by the sea, and when standing on their drive, a panoramic view is to be had, of the north-east coast stretching and curving for miles around you. The menu is varied - delicious hot food (my favourite is a jacket potato with mince!), also sandwiches of all types, desserts, cakes and more! They also sell a selection of jams and chutneys, plus a few small gifts. I always find the staff extremely pleasant, patient and helpful, and the service is very efficient. Some of them are young girls, and what a cheerful bunch they are! As an added bonus - if you love donkeys, you can find them in the next door paddock, waiting for an affectionate pat, but remember not to feed them!!

We visited the farm with great recommendation from a 4 year old little girl who enjoys "scone club" which I assume she attends after nursery with her Grandma (winner!). A group of us went to celebrate my father-in-law's birthday and being heavily pregnant and not able to partake in many of the usual activities I enjoy, eating sandwiches and drinking tea went down a storm with me.We ordered cake for the children and four afternoon teas for the four adults and they were neatly presented on two cake stands. A selection of sandwiches - each delicious! - and a vast selection of cakes, all clearly homemade. I went to a rather extravagant afternoon tea at a local 'Hall' a few months back and their costly tea included several prepared desserts which seemed a bit lacking on their part. The scones and cakes were delicious at Hillshead (what I could eat of them anyway as there were so many!) and who doesn't love tea served in a knitted wrapped tea pot?!The afternoon tea is a bargain and the cheapest price I've seen around. The staff were all very hospitable and kind, and with two young children in tow, were happy to cater to all our needs. I'm not from Sunderland personally, but I'll definitely return if I am near! Thanks, ladies!

I have always enjoyed eating here. It is local and the food has always been lovely. I have been visiting here for many years. However, my last visit will certainly be my last.I had ordered a meal alongside a child's meal. The child's meal consisted of 2 sausages and 2 small scoops of potato. I asked, after I had ordered, for it to come without gravy. I was told it was too late and I should have stated this when ordering. I accept that I was late in asking for this but at the same time I was never asked if I wanted gravy. They refused to do anything about it and the waitress even joked that one sausage didn't have gravy on. She also brought some serviettes so that I could wipe the gravy off the food. I really feel that after my customer loyalty for many years both throughout the Margaret years and the new manager I deserved better. It was after all a child's meal worth £3.99. My child didn't eat the food and even when I complained the woman owner/manager refused to do anything about it unless I wanted to pay again . I have written this review after some months and have given it much thought as to leave them this review but because I was so disappointed by the customer service and attitude I feel that others should know. I have decided that I won't be back which is a shame as my child loved seeing the donkeys and the food is usually nice even if the place is now very dated.

Inside was very cosy and quite busy. There was a good choice of snacks, sandwiches/paninis, proper meals, eg, mince & dumplings, lasagne, home made pies, quiches and some fabulous cakes and scones. The prices were about average. The service was excellent. I asked for some mayonnaise for my salad and the girl brought some immediately. With it being a farm, there was some donkeys nearby which enjoyed their ears rubbed, also some chickens/roosters decided to come over to us, although there were harmless enough, I was a bit on edge as I don't like birds. Overall, the food was nice, the service was good and it was in a lovely quiet location. It's worth a try.
