Hilden Manor Beefeater Grill in Tonbridge and Malling

Only been on Tonbridge for 8 months and have been to various pubs, restaurants and markets. The beefeater is one of those I drive past every day and today I thought I would treat my family. Unfortunately, in my 8 months and at least 15 to to 20 different experiences, this one deserved me going online to say… just drive past…Prices high, food below average and if I really wanted to try find something positive, the beer on tap was cold. Sadly it looked like a great place from the outside and maybe it was, but you can see by the number of patrons that this place is one to be avoided

Booked in advance. Seated quickly and ordered but service was extremely slow. Food was good but has a voucher for free kids meals, which after we asked for a bill they said we couldn’t use it as we didn’t choose the set menu that then made the voucher eligible, after being told we had been offered it when we weren’t, the waitress went back and asked the person who seated us if they offered us the set menu to which she said she did, when she didn’t. Then told us if we wanted to switch it would cost more and despite telling her no, she proceeded to calculate it on her notepad and show us after saying no that if would be more expensive. Don’t come here if you have any vouchers, it’s a con. Would’ve left a tip but concluded not to due to awful service. Unlikely return.

Went for a Sunday lunch with my two children was going well, waitress was slightly moody, until things took a turn for the worse. She was swearing very loudly, crying in front of other customers she was serving, and slamming loads of plates down basically have one massive strop in the middle of the restaurant. It was extremely unprofessional and made my children feel extremely uncomfortable watching it all happen, that girl is an embarrassment to the company and her employment should really be reconsidered. We overheard other members of staff talking at it was all because she couldn’t go home early ( I’m not surprised as it was extremely busy!) but how ridiculous is that !!!!!! Food was decent children’s meals were a bit underwhelming but given for the price of them. The second waitress we had after the stroppy girl left (walked out probably) was amazing and very friendly to all her tables (a credit to the business). But due to the show the other girl put on we will never be returning and it’s a shame as we go there very regularly and everyone else is lovely and welcoming, but my children would flat out refuse to return.

We had a lovely evening. The team here is great & "Boss Lady" Hannah is always smiling and welcoming. We've been before and will definitely go back again.

We were seated quickly and met by a pleasant waitress. The restaurant is a good size with plenty of seating available and it appeared clean and in good decor. There’s also plenty of outdoor seating for alfresco dining. The food was good, I had steak and although it wasn’t quite cooked to my request which is rare it came out more medium but it was fine as the steak was tender and tasty so I was not left disappointed. My dessert of apple & blackberry crumble was also delicious so a good evening meal was enjoyed.

We arrived for our family meal for 5 people, for the table we had booked.The table allocated still had a family eating their main courses.The most unhelpful girl would not let us sit on another table which was free and offered us to sit in the garden, on a chilly evening with a 90 year old lady!!We asked to see the manager who actually wasn’t the manager, who was hopeless and after a lot of pushing, eventually sat us on a draughty table at the back of the restaurant.The tables we asked to sit on remained empty all the evening.A disgusting way to treat customers, when you had overbooked, and took no ownership of your error

We went for a breakfast on a recommendation by a friend and on the whole was over good only gripe was poached eggs had a hard yolk and bacon slightly overcooked. Service was good staff friendly price very reasonable for what you get offered . Didn’t complain as I needed to munch and get back for work . Definitely worth going though

Terrible we went twice in a week 2nd time was just as bad as the first! The young lady that seated us was very rude and dispondant the staff are generally not great the food is ok but not served hot and took a ridiculous amount of time. I would not recommend this place at all and feel I have wasted my money.

Book in for a evening meal with my wife. Have to say that the food was lovely. The staff very friendly and approachable. They made sure that we were well taken care off. The waitress was attentive but not intrusive and made sure to check if we needed any more drinks.

Fantastic service and food as always. The team are friendly and attentive, definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

Went for breakfast with my stepdaughter today. Was seated promptly by a very pleasant member of staff. Great selection of hot and cold breakfast items. Was delicious. Kids eat free so an extra bonus. Couldn't fault the service I received and will definitely return soon. Highly recommended

The rudeness of a staff member, sadly I think she was the manager.. she spoke to my family like c*ap. We wasn't made to feel welcome.

I am afraid to say that this place has gone downhill recently. The quality of the food was below average, it seems like the suppliers have been changed as it all tasted and appeared a bit low grade. Food sat on the pass for way too long, cold chips and wilted salad. Also the whole place is not as clean as it used to be, and nowhere near as bust as usual… probably a sign if people voting with their feet. Staff were doing their best.

Friendly venue that welcomes & is welcoming to all. Staff are friendly & efficient. An outdoor beer garden with seating is available too for warmer weather.

Have been coming to the Manor for a long time and it is a great place for a drink and a meal with fantastic staff who take time to speak with you and make you feel welcome. Well done Hannah, Millie, Georgia and all the bar staff for making me feel relaxed after a hard day at work.

Wow, I wish I could give it more stars. We were seated very quickly, but it took ages to get our order taken, we waited over 75 mins for our meal! when it arrived the chips were cold, the side order of onion rings looked like they had given up on life, over cooked so all you were eating was over cooked batter, couldn't find the onion. The sweetcorn was two small pieces, also cold. It was busy, but there seemed to such a small amount of staff covering the orders. The dishes were removed, but we had to get up to find a menu to look at the dessert menu, we decided that it would be an age before we would be able to order. We kept waiting for a staff member to come to the table, but no one came for over 20 minutes, we just wanted the bill. The lady opposite manged to get her bill, but the waitress walked away, bad service at least wait to take the payment. At one point there was 5 tables all waiting to pay!! it was running joke on what would happen if we all got up and walked out and waited in the bar area, how long would it have taken for them to realise that the customers were no longer seated. I am leaving a bad TripAdvisor reviews, but I will be also taking my custom else where, such a shame as I do normally enjoy the Beefeater experience!

You know what to expect at a beefeater as a rule and the menus choice was just as expected. The food however was mediocre and a famous fast food restaurant provides a better burger. Over all over cooked and cold especially the fries. The menus were sticky as was the table and there was ketchup over the ceiling and light fitting above our table… staff were polite and friendly and we were not waiting very long but restaurant was not that busy. Overall not as I remember it and probably won’t revisit!

Had dinner here on Sunday with a couple of friends and my daughter. Staff where very friendly and nothing was too much. Food was lovely, and the roast chicken was very tasty. Will definetly be back.

We have been to Hilden Manor quite a lot over the years and whilst it can be hit and miss, it’s generally ok. We visited for breakfast last week and whilst food ok I couldn’t help noticing that the plates provided just don’t seem clean. There’s a weird residue on all of them and it’s really off putting. The coffee machine area is usually quite dirty too as are the loos. The staff work hard and are always good though it can take a while to get the bill but not a major gripe. Sort those plates out!

This Hilden manor is great for a spot of lunch with family! I would definitely recommend. Service was quick and the ‘lunch time set menu’ was great value! I would recommend the fish and chips and my friends steak was perfectly cooked 😍

Sunday lunch, family of 5. Disappointing, extremely busy in the restaurant so you can expect food to take slightly longer but we waited 1 hour & 15 minutes. The food was average & not steaming hot, must have been sitting on hot counter waiting for someone to serve. The service is terrible, once finished eating the plates were not cleared & my young son had a dessert with his kids meal. Dessert arrived & dinner plates still not taken away. We were going to order desserts as well but decided not to. Last time I ate lunch in the restaurant (over a year ago) the service was much better. Unfortunately due to today we won't be returning customers. I feel the restaurant needs more staff, perhaps that is the issue. Shame.

A big shout out to Anna and Courtney for all their hard work coping with such a busy breakfast. More staff needed as they were serving,replenishing and cleaning with just the two of them and had to keep apologising for keeping customers waiting. A very hard shift for them so well done!!!

Wow what a fantastic breakfast we had and such a good choice ,Jo the waitress was very smiley and friendly,will definitely go again .

Went here for breakfast and for dinner too. The dinner was ok, food was nice. Breakfast service was awful. We waited about 5 mins to be seated, gave up and seated ourselves. It was extremely busy so service was slow. No cups for the tea/coffee. Had to get up and ask for the bill. Staff aren’t very friendly/don’t smile. The ladies toilets were disgusting so I went in the disabled toilet which was ok. The staff do seem run off their feet but they don’t prioritise serving customers. When we arrived, a staff member was cleaning tables and saw us but continued cleaning tables rather than seat us, and never came back to seat us. When we asked for the bill, I approached a staff member who was cleaning a table. I think the focus should be on serving the customers who are there. We arrived at 10.36am and by 11.15am still didn’t have our food.

I recently dined at this restaurant and received fantastic service all round. Staff were extremely friendly and attentive and food cooked great! I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone

Our favourite place for breakfast. So much choice and under 15s eat free with a paying adult. Anna is fabulous and so welcoming and Carl cooks the best full English breakfast.

The breakfast was excellent. Although very busy the service was amazing and staff really friendly. Well done to Carl and Anna. Will definitely be returning.

We meet up with old friends on a regular basis at the Hilden Manor and have always been very well served and looked after. The management and staff are knowledgeable and efficient and very friendly. We count ourselves very lucky that we have this restaurant and bar virtually on our doorstep.

We visited here for my grandmas birthday as her choice. There was a few vegan options available, I ordered the vegan nachos. Well when they arrived there was about 10/15 crisps, tiny amount of vegan cheese, spring onions and tomatoes. No salsa, no guacamole, no sour cream just dried nachos! The same price as the non vegan nachos! I ordered the no smothered chicken, the portion was tiny. The no chicken had the tiny amount of bbq sauce on it and again a small amount of vegan cheese. Hardly any chips on the plate. I was expecting more I guess! Was disappointed really. Lucky I had a discount. Won't be returning anytime soon

13-Jun-23: Visited for a late lunch on a warm Tuesday afternoon. Decided to sit outside as it as was good weather. The "booths" were in desperate need of refurbishment and cleaning, which was a shame. Ordering at the bar was fine and the food itself was good. Returning to the bar to order dessert, there was nobody around and no way to call anyone to get service. I understand it was a quiet time but if left unattended there should be a buzzer or something to alert staff to a customer. Desserts were also good. So no complaints on food, but the place does need a spruce up.

Excellent breakfast, continental, self service eat much as you want, cooked breakfast waitress service plus the self service continental. Very large selection, drinks, pastries cereal, yoghurt etc etc. Very good value for money, children eat for free. Easy parking, very friendly staff

Had both Dinner and Breakfast at this venue, dinner Friday evening and breakfast Saturday morning very busy as people in the area to attend 3 different weddings so a lot of pressure on the staff and if anything very understaffed particular as mentioned previously. Food was reasonable, variety on the menu but options as expected for this kind of establishment.

We made a last minute online booking for 8 and had a very pleasant family meal. Our waitress Karolina was excellent, very friendly and efficient, a real star! The food was everything you would expect from a Beefeater; decent, good value food. The desserts went down particularly well with the younger members of the family.

Absolutely amazing, everything was brillaint from the staff to the food.. we have been many times before and always enjoyed. They are slightly short on staff at the moment but it doesn't dampen their spirits or their service. We look forward to returning in the near future.

Absolutely awful. The service took an hour and half to get our starters. The waitress who I think thought she was funny wasn’t, she was just plain rude. The food was awful.. my son Poppin chicken was just tiny bits of burnt breadcrumbs. Got 4 chips on my plate. The whole place needs taken down if I’m honest it’s awful.

The food was lovely. the waitress was rude when paying the bill. A bit of confusion as we had a voucher but because we ordered one lunch off the main menu and one off the lunchtime menu. said if we wanted to use a voucher should order off the main menu. or order some more food to get the discount.

I visited this establishment for the first time in many years, after my daughter and I started our journey home after a long day at her cricket tournament. Tired and hungry, we were pleased to get our food ordered - steak and ale pie for me, chicken burger for her. 40 minutes later, and after watching people come in after us and get their food, I finally asked our waitress how long the wait should be - she immediately turned round and said "sorry, I forgot to put your food order on the system." WHAT? Noting that I was less than pleased at her oversight, she stated "I'm sorry, I didn't do it on purpose", fishing for sympathy - did she expect me to say "oh that's okay, don't worry about it" after we'd sat there thinking our meals were on the way! Having decided staying for the food was probably still better than walking out and having to start over again somewhere else, the waitress told us the kitchen was 'expediting' our order but the chicken burger would take around eight minutes. When the food finally arrived, it became clear that the 'expediting' process had involved microwave-cooking my pie, which had the soft and chewy pastry you can only achieve by putting it in said appliance. This ruined what would, to be fair, have otherwise been a tasty pie; the filling was good, and the gravy nice. The chips were tasty but the portion was on the stingy side. After finishing our main, we decided not to risk another debacle by ordering a dessert, so asked for the bill. Our waitress decided to try and make peace by drawing a large smiley face at the bottom of it, when I really wanted a discount on my bill for the dreadful service - this is the least you are offered in most establishments. I can't help but suspect offering a discount would have meant fessing up to her supervisor about what had happened in order to get it approved. Not a great experience and we definitely will never go back there.

Booked on line, seated immediately as we arrived, but like many places they gave us a menu with a list what was not available. This is quite common but I could tell the staff were uncomfortable about it.Food was excellent tasty, hot and generous portions, deserts were so limited only about 3 choices, had churro sundae very nice.Joanne served us very good, apologised about shortage of food wanted to tip her but never got the chance as she didn’t give me the card machine until she needed my pin. Shame I have no cash and was going to tip.

Such a lovely dinner for two after work on Monday. Joanne B made us smile and looked after us very well indeed: super service and delicious food. The welcome and jolly atmosphere created by all staff was a joy and made dur a lovely visit. Thank you

Lovely Beefeater, really great staff. We were made to feel welcome from the off and that seems a real rare occurrence these days. We know there are some issues within hospitality at the moment but you wouldn't know that here, everyone smiling and doing all they could for everyone. Food was delicious, great choice of steaks T-Bone, Fillet, Rib eye etc. We ate every last bite. Gonna come in for breakfast next time as we heard another couple talking about how lovely theirs were that morning. Not one to write a review but we felt we should as it really was great!

Amazing Sunday lunch here. Really lovely place with lots of character. Place was busy but waiter was very attentive and pleasant throughout. Had roast lamb that came with great roast potatoes and parsnips and veg cooked just as it should be. Had a really lovely lunch and would highly recommend. Additional note - had a large beer garden with lots of tables, so would be nice on a warm sunny day to meet friends for a few gins.

Went for a family meal and the service was very sloooow. Apparently due to staff shortages. Maybe restrict the number of guests to what the staff can cope with?Long waits (25 mins plus) for starters, one of which was wrong. Then a similar wait, after we had finished the starters, for our mains. Quality wasn’t brilliant. Very dry chicken, poorly cooked steak. Chips all stuck together. We didn’t bother with dessert!Plus point - waiter was very friendly and helpful, despite the obvious pressure that he was under.

Our request for a round table for 8 for our close family reunion after an 18 month separation due to Covid 19 regs, was fulfilled and from the beginning of our visit to the end we were served with courtesy and good humour. As for the food and drink, we sampled a wide range from the main menu and everyone was more than happy with taste and quality.A truly joyous occasion made possible by the excellent service with any need ably accommodated.

Brilliant afternoon spent in the Beefeater with the family on Saturday. Great welcome and our waitress Emily so professional, friendly, and welcoming. Along with a lady called Ermintrude who was just so funny and friendly, a breath of fresh air. The service was outstanding, and all our meals were so lovely especially the spinach and ricotta cannelloni, as well as the sharer garlic bread, the calamari, and the deserts plentiful. We were so comfortable and so enjoyed the ambience that we were there for nearly four hours! Would not hesitate to recommend this Beefeater as we have always had such lovely times there, again great service and excellent food, compliments to the two hardworking chefs on this afternoon who we did thank personally. Excellent value for money too.

Can't get enough of the Hilden! We visit regularly and are never disappointed! Great price and great service too - 5 stars from us!

Would highly recommend this place! Food was absolutely stunning, I’ve not a bad word to say.Everything came out in a timely manor and all the staff were very friendly. I will continue to eat here as often as possible as I just can’t get enough of the delicious food!

Had a family lunch here on Sunday (5 of us) service was great, food was top notch, nothing was to much. 100% will return…..

Starters were lovely however they have an open kitchen, saw the chef eating with his hands then cooking without washing (he was standing next to the grill eating chicken wings)He done this 3 times, we cancelled our mains and the manager came over, she couldn’t be more apologetic and advised she’d spoken to him, however he was still doing it whilst she was talking to us, lack of respect shown for health and hygiene by him! It was disgusting, licking his fingers then cooking! The manager was lovely but won’t be going back!

Beautiful grilled salmon and bearnaise sauce. All waiters were brilliant: we had Emily looking after us, who made our lunchtime experience a great one! Offering extras and had a naturally friendly approach. Thank you!

Our food was lovely on this visit.Servoce okay, a little slow.We had been sent an email offer for one free dessert with each main purchased.The waitress only deducted one dessert from our bill and was very short with us when we questioned this, saying we had misinderstood and were only entitled to one free dessert. We checked when we got home and, no, we were correct. She over charged us by nearly £10 and was unwilling to even bother checking.After our last meal where the fish had not be descaled properly, i think this will be our final visit to the Hilden Manor.

Good food and nice size portions. Friendly service by helpful waitress Emily Recommend highly. I brought my children of 9 and 14 for a Father’s Day meal out. They both devoured their mains and pudding with nothing left. Very easy and enjoyable visit I will definitely come back to the Hilden manor again.

On Saturday the 19th of June I took my wife for a meal in this beefeater and the food was amazing most of all unlike our last meal out it was hot and I would definitely go back as it was value for money and if you go ask for Emily a top waitress who has a very polite attitude and makes you very really welcome and she’s always happy to help.I had buttermilk chicken goujons to start with a cheese and bacon burger with chunky chips for my main and apple and blackberry crumble to finish off while the wife had calamari to start steak for her main with thin chips and strawberry kisses for desert which is meringue strawberry’s and cream

Attended for lunch on the 04/06. After visiting on a previous Sunday which was packed, we felt the service should have been a lot better on a Friday lunch meal in a half empty restaurant. My partner and I felt like we were a chore, not welcomed guests. Our empty plates went ignored by several staff members. When we did get seen to, our empty glasses (in plain view) were ignored. No offer of a refill. After enjoying a nice desert and waiting 10 mins, I had to flag down a passing staff member to get our bill. Out came the bill and staff member disappeared. 10 mins pass and we were able to pay, finally. The food was delicious so big thumbs up to the cooks. Sadly, our experience was let down by either staff shortages or bad management.

Very nice meal. Jo the waitress is brilliant with the children. She makes dining there a pleasure. More choice of gluten free meals would be good and the toilets need a makeover, but other than this we score Hilden Manor 10/10

Went last night for a outdoor meal and drinks with a friend ,the way things where laid out and organised was excellent .The best i have come across plenty of distance ,cleaning etc .Will be going back very soon for next social well done all of you at Hilden Manor.

Was here last week with two friends, my partner and little boy. It was a lovely meal. The plates are served hotter then normal to accommodate the colder weather to keep food warm. Even though it was outside seating due to covid and cold it was still made such a lovely experience. Our waitress jo was so lovely and very polite and playful with my 2 year old. I will be back very soon especially now that the restrictions are lifting.

I came here for a quick drink with a friend, but it was anything but quick. I am fairly local, so I have given the Hilden Manor many chances over the years, but the service has always been slow. Its a shame, because it's a lovely building, however there is no character or atmosphere due to it being a chain restaurant.

With the relaxing of Covid restrictions, the Hilden Manor Beefeater offered a reduced menu to be consumed outside if you don't mind the gales.Although adequate I feel compelled to mention a few points that spoilt the opportunity to eat out again. The "eat out to help out" campaign is well and truly over as prices seem to have been increased in an effort to recuperate lost income from the pandemic in spite of Government support with furlough etc.I found it irritating that the peppercorn steak was served with peppercorn sauce in a small jug which added £1.50 to the bill, the Strawberries and Ice cream at £3.99 is the same portion as ice cream from the kids menu adding £3.00 for the inclusion of two quartered strawberries. Staying at the Premier Inn next door good for breakfasts and a quiet drink in the evening. Covid restrictions have removed the self-serve breakfasts but you can still order as much or as little as you like.

Prior to the pandemic, had regularly enjoyed having breakfast at Hilden Manor and always had a warm welcome from the staff there. Since reopening, things have gone significantly downhill to the point that yesterday, I walked out and vowed never to return. Came in at 7am, place virtually empty, waited a good few minutes for a miserable waitress to walk over and begin lecturing me on wearing a mask. I apologised and asked if I could have a mask from the box of masks in front of her and was told "no". This is the second time I have had really poor experiences with this same unpleasant young lady (she wears glasses and but I do not know her name). If you can't train your staff to politely speak to customers and treat us like fellow human beings with some basic courtesy, do not be surprised if you close your doors again with no customers. As a medical professional working locally, I have absolutely no objection to wearing a mask if asked to but there are always two ways of asking: the polite and the downright rude. Your waitress, not for the first time, opted for the latter. May be worth reminding her that, if the tradesman (who used to make up the majority of the breakfast trade) don't come back in huge numbers and she intimidates walk-ins like myself, she will have no customers and, inevitably, no job. Really disappointed. Have made my sentiments clear in a letter addressed to senior management at Whitbread Group Head Office.

Visited the Hilden Manor last night and throughly enjoyed our meal. The steak was fresh and perfectly cooked and the spinach and ricotta cannelloni was superb. Our server, Hannah B was friendly and a great host. Thoroughly recommend a visit.

Hannah our server was brilliant. So diligent and friendly. If only everyone was as good as her. Definitely recommend especially if your lucky enough to have her as your server

The staff were friendly & helpful.We had our breakfast here every morning & the Erving meals were very tasty. We would like to say a special thank you to Gavin (Batman) aka the barman for his help in finding my husbands lost phone which was stuck down the sit of an armchair.Well done everyone for making us feel welcome & safe in this changing world if Civid19 2020

A fabulous meal with friends. All freshly cooked steaks. We go here at least once a month as it’s so local. So happy it’s open again and using all safety measures. Staff are wonderful and food superb.

Booked into the premier inn went to Hilden Manor for pre booked dinner. Table service was excellent all thanks to Henry, friendly efficient (helpful that he looks like a younger Kevin de bruyne-and we love football). Gavin assisted to , so we felt well looked after by them both. The meals were of good quality no complaints. On going down to breakfast the following morning we saw Henry, unfortunately he wasn’t our server but he still took time to say hello and ask if we’d had a good night! Great food , excellent service from friendly staff. Have eaten here many times. Sunday roast is a must. Steaks are excellent.

Have to say that was a great steak, wine choice Steakhouse Melbac is a must. Also just found out that the chief was called Kye weldone sir keep to that standard and you will go a long way. Staff very pleasant and polite from bar to dining room.I recommended this one for a meal or just a few drinks.Well done all and thank you.

Was staying at the premier inn and had the meal deal. Had 2 dinners and 2 breakfasts here. All were good - only slight let down was it wasn’t too clear what was included on the meal deal as has changed due to covid so took some questioning to get the correct details. Allow time for breakfast at the weekends - however it is cooked fresh and was really good so well worth the wait. Coffee machine had good coffee Well labelled how to walk around the restaurant and plenty of sanitiser. Staff were all friendly.

No toilet paper in the ladies toilet,so I told a member of staff,she said that she would get it sorted out,by the end of the night she still hadn't.The meal,they had run out of two of the items that we wanted.The Members of staff that call Women guys,then please don't old age pensioners do not appreciate it.

Recently moved to tunbridge wells and with this branch being our closest beefeater we have now taken a few trips. We have never been disappointed and on numerous occasions have been served by the lovely Emily, who is extremely professional, friendly, and never fails to get the job done correctly and efficiently. Management also seem really good and hardworking, which coming from a waitress, I know can be hard to come by. We would definitely recommend this branch to anyone wondering.
