Highwayman in Lancaster

Visited for Sunday lunch while staying in a local cottage. Booking was easy. Welcome was warm and inviting and our table for 4 in the window was ready for us. We all chose Sunday lunch options and it was a great meal. Everything served together..piping hot ..extra gravy and apple /mint sauces. No faults and 4 clean plates. Unfortunately no room for desserts so we’ve booked to return for lunch today so we’ll see 😂 how we go.

Have just visited The Highwayman and had both an excellent meal and excellent service. We were greeted warmly, as on a previous occasion, by the man behind the bar and shown to our table. The food was first class and the service both friendly and professional. We hope to soon sample the Christmas menu and would heartily recommend this establishment..

My daughter arranged 14 of us to go for my 60th birthday. We had varied dietary requirements including a severe nut allergy. From speaking to the manager to arrange our meals and the reception we received on the day I cannot praise them enough. Everything was excellent well organised and the food was amazing. Staff were so lovely made my birthday so special. Thankyou so much.

We went here two Sundays on the run - first with friends and then as a couple. We really enjoyed it. The food was excellent and well presented. Crab arancini, sea bass, chilli beef salad were really delicious. Also the Sunday roasts looked lovely as they were being served to other tables. All the staff are very pleasant and helpful but a shout out for Tim who is so friendly and cheerful to everyone. Burrow is a couple of miles from Kirkby Lonsdale and it’s definitely worth a visit if you are staying in the area.

Meeting with a friend brought us to The Highwayman and what a good choice it was. Although it was busy when we visited, the restaurant has spacious, homely feel. Our mains included the shoulder of lamb and the chicken coq au vin and Appleby Cheshire cheese pies. All were beautifully cooked and very enjoyable. As a mark of good food we had space for desserts and once again our pavlova, hot waffle and sticky toffee pudding were first rate. Most of the service was excellent, the exception to this was the guy behind the bar (seemed to be in charge) who lacked the professionalism displayed by the other members of staff. However this wouldn't put us off returning again.

The Highwayman is a super country gastro-pub with great décor, nice food, beers and wine. Also very well organised, with slick service and charming staff. It was just the right Sunday lunch venue for our group of friends after doing the St. Peter's Church loop. It was also excellent value and having been there in February and June this year is highly recommended regardless of the time of year.

I thoroughly enjoyed my lunch here today. From the moment we entered we were warmly greeted by a man from the bar ( even though we hadn’t booked it was the perfect welcome) and showed us to a table. A lady then served us (I believe the manager) who could not have been more helpful. I would definitely recommend the sirloin steak and the steak burger. The service was a masterclass and the food was delicious. I definitely will be returning.

My partner and I highly recommend the Highwayman. Great service and a fantastic meal. We had the prawn and the calamari starters, which were delicious. We both had the Sea Trout for our main and that was incredible! The best fish dish I have had in a UK restaurant. Loved it! Our waiter was brilliant as well. We will definitely eat here again.

We come here regularly, one of the best eatery around, great food and great service, went for my sons birthday and the waiter was great, put candles in his pudding and wished him a happy birthday, it’s the small things which make a big impact.

We visited for a birthday meal and couldn't have been happier. The food was delicious, the portion sizes were spot on, and the service was brilliant. For a family with allergies, the allergen menu was so helpful - no need to go backwards and forwards with the kitchen to find out what isn't suitable. Already looking forward to coming back to try more of the menu.

We've eaten here before, a while ago, and it's as excellent now as last time. My other half is vegan and he loved the freshly made, quality food. The vegan choc cherry tart for dessert is superb, as a meat eater I loved it. The menu here changes regularly but the food is always well thought through and varied. I had a pie, this time, truly delicious. Very relaxed atmosphere and thoroughly recommend for a quality meal out for any occasion.

The Highwayman has been a family favourite of ours for years. Always great quality food, good choice of drinks and the staff are always friendly.

Just been for a lovely meal and couldn't quite fit a dessert in so asked for a takeaway. What a great surprise on the presentation when settled down in our camper. Definitely recommend and young staff very polite, nothing was a problem.

A very enjoyable meal in a lovely country pub. We popped in on the off chance and were told straight away that they were booked from 5:30pm until 8pm so we could eat outside of those times. We booked an earlier slot and were looked after well by all of the staff who took time to ensure we were comfortable and that our dog was provided with water. The pub is a nice place to vists being large and welcoming with plenty of room around tables giving space and privacy. We ordered chicken and chorizo pie and featherblade of beef. Both dishes were exceptional, and the accompaniments were also perfectly cooked and delicious. We ordered cheese board for dessert and this was just about ok for the money but the size of the cheeses was a little stingy so I wouldn't recommend. Beer was good and we were never rushed
