It’s our first pint out after lockdown, and we’re sat in the beer garden drinking a lovely pint of San Miguel. On entrance, there’s hand sanitiser, and track and trace is excellent. The bar man has been a star, and he is following all rules. Although we’re outside, in a lovely garden, there are spit screen dividers indoors, with everyone socially distanced. The pub has a lovely vibe, and is a proper pub, not gentrified at all. Additionally, it is spotless. Well done George and Dragon.... what’s not to love?

Poor customer service and expensive drinks. It's existence taints the hospitality sector, not just for Lancaster but for human kind!

The only true pub in Lancaster. Historically known as the Middle House.. there is a great range of well-kept beers to enjoy!

My partner and I have visited this pub on numerous occasions. We have always found the staff most courteous and efficient, and the pub has a very cosy atmosphere. Since the introduction of the Track & Trace system they have been most diligent and fastidious in maintaining the standards expected. We would definitely recommend this pub.

Stumbled across this pub whilst googling somewhere to eat whilst on holiday. What a great find! There were 7 of us and the dog (who was welcomed and given a treat). We all agreed the food was absolutely delicious! Friendly staff who were very compliant with social distancing and PPE. Didn’t venture into garden as it was pouring but it did look very nice. Bonus as they did the ‘eat out to help out’ scheme ! We left actually feeling guilty for getting such a cheap delicious meal! Highly recommend this place.

On first appearances this is a small, friendly pub focussing on wet sales. However, scratch beneath the surface and a whole gastronomic extravaganza reveals itself for the discerning customer.Through word of mouth news of The George and Dragon’s signature dishes have spread. Those in the know typically go for the tapas/ploughman’s lunch/chocolate dessert offering. I shall break these down in turn; The tapas options are exquisite wide ranging and keenly priced. There is no definitive tapas menu per se, but if you ask the bar staff to serve a range of tapas up to a price point they will be more than obliging and service is guaranteed to come with a friendly smile. Vegetarian options are available, with the chilli nuts being a highlight to complement a fine ale with, however the meaty selection incorporates all manner of pig based offerings cooked to perfection. The Ploughman’s Lunch represents the perfect main course and is extremely consistent in quality - my personal favourite touch is that they always give you exactly 3 onions - not a single one more, or a single one less. Whoever is working, the quality and consistency is exactly the same. Finally, dessert - locals affectionately refer to the selection as ‘the bag of love’ - the landlord rummages in a pot luck bag of chocolatey delights before producing a tasty treat to enjoy.10/10

Homey pub feel as you walk in with pictures of Lancaster from years ago and now which is a nice touch. Clean pub. Had a few people in despite being just before 5pmGaming machine opposite the bar if you like the slot machines. Decent size outside space in the back for the nice and warm days. Friendly owner that is very helpful, makes you feel very welcome. Wines on offer from what I could see was red and white and echo falls and hardys as the brand. Small selection of beers and ales on tap and in the fridge. Not a big collection of spirits but the popular brands so you can easily get a drink. No food served so its a place to chill out with a drink. Two prosecco at £11.00 - 200ml bottles Nice prosecco as well so not a bad price Pub is dog friendly so man's best friend is welcome.

The George & Dragon is a traditional pub in Lancaster, a stone's throw from the Maritime Museum (and next to the similar, but more stylishly decorated Wagon and Horses, also a Robinson's venue). The pub offers six real ales on tap (five were available when I dropped in), but the selection is woefully conventional, so I passed. The décor is fairly appealing in a waterhole kind of way (dark wood), and there is frequent live music. On the whole though - even given the city's fairly limited number of interesting pubs, the George & Dragon doesn't stand out in any way. If you want real ales in Lancaster, better head to either Merchants 1688, The Three Mariners, The Water Witch or The White Cross - all superior, more appealing pubs.

We’ve been in here a few times over the years it’s a quiet friendly pub. The landlady is very friendly and welcoming. The garden is nice to sit in in the sun. Lots of people take their dogs which is lovely.

I went here yesterday with a friend and it is a very friendly and down to earth pub. The land lady was very friendly and made us fell very welcome. We ordered two glasses of wine which was just over £9 so not bad for two large glasses of wine. They have a few brands behind the bar which I am glad at as Hardy's is not a great wine so we went for a brand we hadn't heard of and really enjoyed it.

We spoted this pub as we walked past from the Waggon and Horses, I decided to call in for a look with Cath , When we went in there was only one customer in the place it was Sunday Night, I looked at the beer selection one of the better beers had gone so we ordered a pint and a half of another beer, The price was reasonable and it was kept well ,the Landlady was very friendly and talkative, We sat down and drank our beer then another customer came in and said hello we didnt know him but the place even when nearly empty seemed welcoming and friendly.

Stopped in one evening whilst visiting Lancaster to have a pint at a very reputable pub. Stayed for longer than I could have imagined thanks to Timothy Taylors Landlord Bitter. Many other great pints available including beers from the local Lancaster Brewery. The music was good and the pub mascot, the friendly pooch, was great. Very much recommended.

Why advertise that you are open until 12.30 on a Saturday and when we walk in say your closing? Pubs that do that really irritate me.. don't display opening hrs if you're not going to stick to them. On the upside we have found the wagon and horses which is a fab place.

One pf the last two pubs on the quay, it has a beer garden out the back which on the day we visited was welcome as there was a strange smell in the bar. The barman was chatty and a bit off the wall but the beer was ok albeit with a limited choice. There were a couple of locals in plus us so not that busy . Not sure I would go back.

This is fast becoming one of our regular pubs - and that's saying something in Lancaster as every other building is a pub. The staff here are really friendly, and dog friendly in particular - there's usually a treat or two for four legged friends! Cheapest and nicest wine I've tried so far in a Lancaster pub. It's never been massively hectic when we've been in, but it has a really nice atmosphere. Just seen some food reviews on here - must try that next sunday!

My wife and I decided to go for Sunday lunch having found info on the Internet that warranted a visit. We arrived around 12.45pm and noticed the pub was quiet with a few tables of two. But decided to follow through on our booking. We ordered the roast beef for two and tuck a seat. The manager provided two clean plates and wrapped clean knife and fork and a clean salt & pepper pots which were well filled. After a short interval of approximately 10 minutes our center table roast display arrived, the tray was filled with roasted Parsnip, Cauliflower mornay, Carrot & Swede, Green beans and creamed potatoes these were all fresh well cooked and we'll seasoned, top marks, the cook of the day certainly new how to cook vegetables. However the roast potatoes I am afraid were either reheated or had been held for a while which made the skin slightly tough but still edible and seasoned. The Beef was Silverside which had been slow cooked so was well cooked no cooking preference was available, this had been carved with the meat grain rather than across the grain which made the meat slightly stringie. The Yorkshire puddings where of a good size and again well seasoned, the gravy was a little pale and could of benefited from a strong beef flavour injection but was still acceptable. To sum up the Meal we must say was very good value and we would go again as a choice of 4 fresh veg + 2 fresh potatoes and 2 Yorkshire puds, and a good couple portions of beef with a jug of gravy for £8 per head really does make it worth a visit. I would recommend that if they address the issue of the roast potatoes, and slicing the beef correctly they will have a real winner that would put them well above the rest and it wouldn't be long before seats would be un available and someone would have to look after the que down the street.

I regularly go to this pub and enjoy reading the daily papers they provide. The pub has a great atmosphere and on a recent visit some people were doing clog dancing while some one was playing a tamberine. I had a Sunday lunch here recently and it was really good and great value. The owner always takes time to talk to his customers. Good location too facing the river lune.

Went for lunch. Its a lovely pub on St Georges Quay, but the food let it down.I had chicken with bacon and cheese in bbq sauce, the chicken was the equivalent of a 'Birds Eye chargrill', hubby had fish and chips and this was a frozen fish in breadcrumbs. Not had obvious frozen food from a pub in a long, I think in this day and age, for a pub to survive, create a menu even if its limited whereby you produce proper home cooked food even if you have to charge a little bit more. We paid approx fiver for each meal, and I suppose this in itself should have warned us.

Just had Lunch at the George and Dragon on St George's Quay and what a lovely way to spend our Lunchtime ! . The Menu offers Light Bites and more traditional fare such as Sausage and Mash , Fish and Chips and a selection of Burgers which is varied enough for Lunch but not overwhelming . After ordering , we enjoyed a glass of wine and when our food came it was hot , nicely presented and the portions were generous . Service was good and price wise it was inexpensive for the meal we enjoyed . We will be back , not only for the Food , but to enjoy the Traditional pub and relaxed friendly atmosphere created by the Patrons .

Have eaten at the G&D several times and the food is always excellent and very reasonably priced. The landlord is also the Chef (and I mean a fully-qualified-earned-his-title 'Chef'!). A good selection of drinks at (or below local) local pub prices. Go early and have a walk around the village first, unspoilt and full of character. Try and go on one of Sue's theme nights, a real experience!

I've eaten there twice and both times have had a very good experience. Couldn't believe how good the prices are, yet the food was every bit as good as other pubs, if not better, and the service was excellent. Not many people eating there, which made it feel a bit empty. So take this recommendation and fill it up! Great place!

The George & Dragon is my local pub, and also the place I most often take friends and family when we want to eat out. It doesn't purport to be a fine dining location, but for great pub food served with a smile in a relaxing environment and at a very reasonable price I've found it hard to beat. There's a standard menu that's always available, and in addition to that they have a good range of specials which seem to change daily. The fish and chips are the best I've ever eaten, and my sister (a veggie) loves the Dragon Pie. For a lunchtime snack the toasted ciabattas are delicious and filling (my favourite is the Cajun chicken with lettuce & mayo--you can have it extra spicy if you ask for it that way), and on a cold day the Cumberland sausage with mash is perfect comfort food. There's sometimes a bit of a wait, but I'd rather relax with a drink and wait for chefs to prepare real food than be served quickly with something disappointing that's been run through a microwave.Very highly recommended.
