The Eagles Head in Lancaster

We had Sunday lunch. The Beef was well done- not served pink as on the menu menu - and the Yorkshire puddings almost burnt. Only veg were 1 piece of carrot and 1 piece of parsnip. My complaint was not dealt with well so we just won’t go there again.

Oh my word, what a find!! Booked a table after reading reviews and we were not disappointed. Food was absolutely delicious and generously sized portions. Highlights were the garlic mushrooms starter, chicken Kiev and fish and chips. Unfortunately we were all too full for dessert. Pub was busy with those having dinner and locals having a drink. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff.

Lovely pub/ restaurant. Service was great and not rushed even though we were the last to order at lunch. Food was really good . Dog friendly and you could dine in any part of the restaurant. Very nice decor.

It has a lovely atmosphere, the food was extremely tasty and tgere was anew menu which had some wonderful choices plus there was plenty of it. Reasonable prices. The staff were so friendly and helpful. If there was one thing that would have made it perfect was the table size. It was more for two people not four, very difficult fitting the plates, drinks and cutlery on such a small table. Otherwise a perfect evening

Visiting family nearby, we booked a Sunday dinner. Food was excellent from a small menu ( we prefer this as it normally means that it is fresh and well cooked). Fish and chips were just right and the beef was cooked perfectly. Look forward to a return next time we are in area!

Honestly can’t fault the eagles head at over Kellet! Visited for the first time today with my wife, the place is lovely (spotless) all the staff were friendly, welcoming, and helpful 👍 we both opted for the roast beef dinner ❤️ amazing!we both agreed that it was by far the best we had ever had! My dad recommended this pub after visiting the area for a dive trip and it did not disappoint! The pork belly scrumptet was delicious and extra gravy was not judged! Short staff wasn’t an issue and the manageress was lovely, thank you all!

In the area and this place was recommended. We had a short wait for our table but the wait was well worth it. My husband and I both ordered a roast dinner, beef for him pork for me. Both meals were delicious, one of the best roast dinners I’ve had in a long time. Generous helping of meat, huge Yorkshire pudding and lots of lovely fresh vegetables. Including mashed potatoes to die for! The restaurant is in a lovely spot and beautifully decorated inside. If we’re ever in the area again we would definitely return.

Customer service needs attention, Not welcomed if you’ve not booked first. A smile, friendly welcome goes a long way, and you don’t get that here. Didn’t stop and eat.

Just had the best Sunday dinner out we've ever had. The food was exceptional and the staff were very friendly and efficient. Extremely good value for money. A great selection of cask beers and a fine selection of very affordable wine too. The decor is fantastic and there's a lovely atmosphere. We're only sorry it's taken us a while to eat here but we'll be back very soon.

Been in for a drink since the new owners took over and loved the changes they've made. Friends said what great food they'd had there so decided to have the Sunday lunch. We shared a triple pickle oil with bread starter which was amazing, full of flavour and a lovely jalapeno kick. It really got the taste buds ready for the main event, Sunday lunch. The lamb was the best we've ever tasted, the veg, roast potatoes and mash were excellent, impossible to fault any of the food. The service was faultless and the wine was great value. A wonderful atmosphere means this place will now be a regular. The way it has been tastefully refurbed means it will be a lovely, cosy place to visit through autumn and winter which is a bonus. Treat yourselves, you won't regret it.

Horrible pub, absolutely horrible behaviour from the land lady. Dance music pumping till 12 am with houses just a few metres away as if it's a nightclub. I asked politely if the music could be turned down as our baby and other 2 young children could not settle and was met with a torrent of abuse, she screamed at me as I was walking up the road and when pub goers who were young males from outside the village all came outside shouting at me challenging me, and attempted to intimidate me, the landlady or manager acted as if that was ok. This is not a nightclub, it's a village pub. And to add, the food is at best... adequate and majorly overpriced.

Review updated after the pub reopened. Lovely Sunday lunch. The roast potatoes could have done with a few more minutes cooking, but still 5 stars as the rest was awesome. Recently reopened after a refurbishment.

Well after the last meal with last owner was an absolute disaster I have yo say the new owners have smashed it out the bag !! Done the place uo lovely and tried new menu today was incredible

Has changed management June 2024 so all the reviews below are irrelevant, totally different and enjoyed ourselves so time to revisit.

Booked Easter Sunday lunch at 1230. It took 50mins for food to come, despite the only option being roast dinners (which we wanted) and it being quite empty when we arrived, Food was seriously disappointing. Plain boiled veg, only 2 roasties each, beef had gelatinous bistro like gravy, the ‘nut roast’ was inedible, and I requested ‘gluten free turkey’ and was handed a plate complete with Yorkshire…. Which when I double checked with the waitress, wasn’t a GF Yorkshire at all! Poor food, poor service, overpriced at £20/roast. Don’t eat here.

Based on the 4 and 5 star reviews we had a family lunch there. The place is so run down & drab and in desperate need of a major refurb. No draught beers available. Apparently it is due to change hands soon. The roast pork was tough and tasteless. Couldn't eat it. Stay clear for the time being.

A nice old fashioned looking pub,however it had an full atmosphere, as it was so empty. Food was medioca.

We were nearly put off by the recent negative reviews. So glad we weren't. We were told we could have a walk-in table but that there were lots of bookings so food might be a while. Fair enough. Served drinks at the table while we waited by pleasant and efficient bar staff. Sunday lunch and fish pie very tasty, enormous and well-priced. Did we want the sausages for our dog cut up or not? Yes please. I get the impression that some renovation has already happened (bathrooms are modern and clean) with more to come. But the negative description of the environment in a couple of reviews are just not right. There was a really nice vibe of people enjoying themselves. A good experience all round.

Don't eat here! Starter waited 20 minutes to get an Indian platter. Mainly burnt and over cooked. Poppadoms smelt of fish obviously fried in the wrong fryer . We did mention it but said they wasn't. Why smell fishy then. After 15 mins wait for 2 x roast beef dinners the meal was disgusting. Carrots tasted off couldn't eat them, cauliflower was foul. Mash was frozen not fresh and tasted disgusting too. Beef also tasted as though been re heated in hot water. There was a distinctive taste of garlic . Roast was frozen. As well as Yorkshire pudding shop bought microwaved and could cut they where that rubbery. I've been a chef for over 42 years and that's the worst meal I have ever had. My other half can cook better than that. EHO would have a field day. I don't think we are the only ones to complain. We called a bit back and the pub filled up and food looked and smelt lovely, obviously we found out they had left shame as others have ruined the place. Wish we had seen trip advisor we wouldn't have come. As we was leaving there was a guy outside who I believe also was a chef and he had complained as he had taken his family. We was that discussed payed and left. Felt sorry for the two young girls working there. Saw the chef he looked very untidy. Definitely don't recommend staying well clear. Dodgy stomach.

We used to eat often at the Eagles Head before the original owners moved away and always had excellent food. We called in on our way back from a day out recently and we should have taken more notice of the state of the place now. As stated in other reviews it does need a makeover but was very dirty, sticky tables, dirty carpets , grimy windows and paint peeling off the walls . As we were very hungry we decided to stay and eat. That was a real mistake the beef lasagne had about a teaspoon of mince, the pasta was thick and undercooked and the sauce tasteless, the chips were also undercooked and the small salad drenched in dressing. The only edible thing were the two small slices of garlic bread. The steak pie had a slimy top and tasteless vegetables and again undercooked chips The pub is in a village with a new housing estate nearby and two large caravan parks also near so is in in a perfect position to have good returning trade but people will not return or recommend if the place and the standard of food doesn’t improve. We certainly will not return and certainly not recommend eating there. It is a shame as it used to be so good.

It was fairly quiet when we went. The staff were great and the food was very nice. And home cooked.

Poor food, no atmosphere, will not be going again

Went there with a couple of friends last night for food. The steak and ale pie was excellent…a proper pie, not just a pot with a pastry lid. The fish and chips were also excellent, with nice crispy batter…and good chips and all reasobably priced…would definitely recommend and we’ll back there soon

Myself and my partner visit the Eagle pretty regularly. The Sunday lunch last week was delicious and at such a reasonable price. Theres a choice of 3 sizes for smaller appetites too. The chocolate pudding was also lovely. If you want decent food at good prices in a traditional country pub, visit the Eagle

Brilliant burger, great pint of Guinness and the staff were great

Had the steak, cooked perfect with very nice chips, onion rings, mushroom & tomatoe. The owner/chef spent time talking to us and made us feel welcome. The young lad behind the bar also very pleasent and was happy to help. I would return here again if in the area.

My friend and I had a lovely 2 course meal and very reasonable price yum , food and service excellent and beer good 👍🏼 will be going back for Xmas lunch in December

Went today for tea food was lovely and reasonably priced. staff welcoming landlord very friendly only down side it was cold needs to get that fire going.We would recommend this place but the pub owners need to refurbish definitely will return

We came across your establishment when we took a detoure off the motorway coming back from Scotland on Sunday the 1oth of September What a lovely pub and staff . Phobie ,Charlie I think the other lady was called Sophie.. all of them where polite attentive and very happy in their jobs and nothing was to much trouble and bent over backwards to Cater for my partner. They are all a credit too you. Please pass these comments on too them . Oh the food was lovely very well present . WELL DONE 100%

Local pub, no idea how or why it has 4.5 stars. We ordered a roast, two steaks and a pork burger, were completely stunned with how naff it was. Ordered our food, the young lad forgot our order and it took 50 minutes to come. Pork burger was literally 2 dry patties on a dry bun. With a side paper cup of apple sauce. Roast beef was so dry my wife couldn't chew it. Never seen a roast dinner with nothing green on the plate before. Steaks were okay but one of them was overcooked to death on one half. Godawful, give it a miss if you like food. People could not be lovelier, kind, attentive and well spoken.

We were looking for a weekday pub meal to finish off our weekend break, many local pubs to our holiday cottage were closed. We found the Eagles head open with a special menu 2 for £15. Simple pub meals however the food was lovely just what we required, even our dog got a sausage. Overall well worth the visit.

We went for a midweek evening meal and I was very impressed. The Eagle’s Head is best described as an authentic country pub and it’s decor and ambiance may be a little old-fashioned for some, but it has a traditional pub feel to it and the food reflected this. I had a vegetarian lasagne, with sides of chips and onion rings. For dessert I had syrup sponge pudding and custard. The food was very good and tasty and we were served quickly by the attentive staff. The menu is not extensive, but there was a decent range on offer, including a few vegetarian options. The restaurant was fairly busy, even on a wet Wednesday evening, so it is clearly a popular spot. There is a large car park, with plenty of room and the pretty village is worth a stroll around, if weather permits. A proper country pub, which is now becoming a rarity. Well worth a visit.

Last Sunday, we nipped off the motorway as it was very slow moving.... and we found this dog friendly place. Lovely little pub, lovely staff, and the food was beautiful, we thoroughly enjoyed it. It was raining heavily outside and we were snug inside with great food x thank you 😊

Great value dining on Tues and Thurs so I'd recommend you book a table. Good quality food and generous portion size. Made us feel very welcome despite them being very busy.

We dined here on holiday after reading the reviews. It was a Sunday. I'm sorry to say it was the worst roast dinner I've ever had. My Husband had gammon which too be fair was OK. I had roast chicken which came with 3 chiken wings instead of chicken breast I've never had a Sunday lunch where the roast chicken was just chicken wings. The service was OK but too be fair it was nearly empty.

Waited ages. Food very average. The cook was called the chef, having been in catering myself I can assure you there’s nothing chefy going on here. Not the best quality ingredients. Crockery cutlery all basic an old fashioned as is the decor seating and carpet. Needs a complete refurb and perhaps a chef.

This place was raved about as being a great place to eat. Our experience was different. The gammon was swimming in oil, the roast was inedible and part burnt. Such a shame,hopefully was a one off.

I am celiac and was very pleased that i could get my fish and chips celiac friendly not only that they have several dishes which i can enjoy also puddings so a very big thank you the staff and management very friendly we will be back aging we hope you make a success of it you deserve it

It looks like on our visit they are new tenants finding their feet. I’m sure it will improve as time goes on. Some of the food was below standard, however the meal was replaced with no questions asked. In general it’s a cracking little pub with pub food 👍

Very accommodating place, but my meal wasn't the best. Only half of my half a chicken was edible.

Staying in area and came across this pub. Rather old fashioned inside, but the tasty food did not disappoint. Happened to have a special price on steaks (Wednesday), which we had, so it was very good value.

Fantastic atmosphere and incredibly welcoming. Staff are brilliant and friendly, beer is kept very well and the food is excellent. They were also very accomodating of my large group wanting to watch the F1 grand prix, ensuring we had the best table in the house. 10/10 - will definitely be coming back
