Highfield Fish Bar in Birmingham

Been going to this takeaway for years, and its usually really good. But it has recently come under new ownership. I gave it a try for the 1st time today and the food was horrible. Barely edible.

Very slow at preparing food orders today and they ran out of chicken wings and chips!!! How can you run out chips in a chip shop!! They fried more but had to wait for 20 mins or so.

Food was good Alhamdulilah, still not like it used to be but good enough. I heard swearing the quite abit while I was there. I wouldn't take my family there. I can also remember them talking about other customers. Not professional needs guiding maybe.

This is a small fish and chip shop with great quality food . Recently I found out that every night when closing the staff give leftover food away to the homeless in the area . In fact the homeless wait outside and the staff count how many people are there (not many between 3-10 approximately) then they make up the correct amount of meals for everyone to have . The night I was there talking to a friend and noticed what was going on a fresh batch of chips was made so everyone had chips to accompany whatever else was there from chicken, kebabs, fish etc . What a great shop , support this local shop and help feed the homeless

It's such a shame to leave such a negative review after ordering from here. I used to come here all the time as a kid and it was such a treat! The food was fresh and the service was always spot on. Unfortunately, it seems the businesss has gone down hill since. The food was luke warm. And the server seemed quite distance while making the food which led to too much vinegar 😔. Chips were hard but the chicken was good. It seemed quite for a Friday which may be indicative of the drop of food quality.

Disgusting horrible chips. Service is very slow and rubbish. The potatoes they use are cheap rubbish. Would give it zero stars if I had a choice. Never again.

This place is way better than My Favourite Chip Shop in Alum Rock road. Not a tramp or a junkie eating from this classic old school place & the prices are cheap compared to My Favourite Chip Shop. The staff have manners & they are never rude at all.

Love there chicken n chips and fish and chips nice portions. Never had a problem here. Nice curry sauce to 👍 this place is nice and simple old skool chippy 👍

Amazing place, have to say got the best fish and chips in Birmingham!! Can't forget the curry sauce. Been told there chicken was nice so definitely will be trying that next time

This is not cod its pollock fish which they are selling cod and I am allergic to it!!!! Misleading information on the Google page say they take card, no they don't, I had to walk to a far cash point and then go back and get the food. Fish tastes funny, batter was soggy and not at all crispy. I've owned a chip shop and let's just say I wouldn't feed any of my customers such low quality food. Over priced, smelly fish and cooked/uncooked chips felt like I was eating the chips raw, honestly, the first time trying it and safe to say the last.

Came in yesterday, very rude guy who works their and seemed angry for some reason. The chips were dead and not fresh. Even for 2 quid definitely not worth it. And the guy for some reason decided to serve me last even tho I came in second.

I tried this place after long time. It used to be good. The staff need customer service skills. I ordered fish chips. Looked nice but when I tasted it ..it was not good at all. The chips were not cooked The fish was ok. But given I paid £9.30 this was not good at all. I would value the food at £3 considering the lack of quality. If this place is on your list to try out..trust me don't bother.

The food is good. The owners might improve the service; the acoustic should be enhanced, as clients can't talk with average volume.

Way too overpriced, bought a cone of chips had about 13 chips for £1, also took about 4 times of asking to have it wrapped rather than tip the cone out and wrap, it was wrapped by squashing the cone and chips.

This shop over charges you and the food is utterly disgusting. I ordered a chicken burger meal which costed £4.90. The owner made a cheeky remark about the gas prices going up when asked why the steep price. Never the less. The chips were dry and hard with a nasty overly spicy what they call"chilli sauce" on top of them. The chicken burger had pieces taken off a fried chicken piece and slapped in a burger, it was hard and dry with no flavour to it my wife didn't even eat it 🤣 never seen this before in my life. I do not know how this shop is still running. Please avoid at all costs, even if the food was free I would never step in this shop. -Messed up rip off prices -Horribly nasty food -Very bad and sarcastic attitude I never waste my time on a review like this but I couldn't hold it in people need to know before they become a victim. I have suffered, no one else needs to. Your welcome guys.

The best southern fried chichen in the area, as they keep it under a warming lamp and don't microwave it. Crispy skin with a tangy coating. The chips are also the best in the area, not amazing chips, but average. Doner kebab isn't the best as it comes out of a pot, the kebab meat was dry and had a grainy texture, and had lost all its flavour as a result. I'm sure it would taste better, if freshly cut. There's a bit of inconsistency issue with the pricing. I was charged 2.50 for a good size donner wrap. 4 weeks later. I was charged £3.40 for a smaller donner wrap. It appears more staff training is required. Overall this is the closest you will get to a good old fashioned chippy in the area. Edit : portion sizes have been reduced.

Good food and good staff with great price item at the shop

AVOID AVOID AVOID!! Paid £6.50 for a large portion of fish and chips and it looks like a child's portion! The biggest scam ever! Avoid at all costs! Absolute thieves! Don't waste your money here. Utterly disgusted!!

Best chips in B8 food always hot portions are great

Not a fan of their chicken tbh or their chips. Rather just travel further out to aston to get better chips than this place. For the price they dont really fill the bag up for a large either. Large and small dont look much different.

Love the trio of Chicken meats and the lamb kebab is pukka. One of the cleanest kebabs I've had for a while

A realy nice fish and chips shop in Alum Rock. Fresh chips and fresh cod made everyday. they also do curry sauce. Price isn't expensive and the wait time isnt too bad. worth a try (on a cold rainy day :))

Aw man easily one of the best chippies around Staff are extremely friendly, always with a smile Chips are fresh, fish is flaky and crispy, doner meat is juicy and the portion sizes are quite generous too Spring rolls are nice, scallops are huge and crispy golden, sausage roll is nice, chicken doner is nice too Just overall a great time when eating at Highfield I do knock points off for the chilli sauce though, easily the worst item on the menu. It's just spicy and that's it. I never order it as it ruins the flavor of the rest of the dish Other than that, 5/5 a must try

The fry chicken is moist and juicy and flavorful in every bite and the fish has a very nice and crispy batter. Highly recommended.

There southern fried chicken is mainly freshly cooked not like other shops. Chicken is always on point. It's not your 99p chicken and chips rubbish. Nice lads work there service is good. Don't bother any where else nasty chip shops local

I went there yesterday I was waiting to get severed and the guy with big hair and beard behind the counter said “what you looking at” I go I want my food he kept touching his nose and scratching his head had a fish and chips it was really hard cold and dry. My wife had donner meat chips the chips were cold and donner meat looked like it was from last year. It gave me direhaa and me and my wife were constantly vomiting. Plz avoid this place really unhygienic

This was an amazing chippy when owned by the original Sikh family so many memories of looking forward to eating from here as it was top quality food...now... well....its totally gone down hill since they sold it on. Not surprisingly when people of my heritage take over an establishment that has a solid customer base; so many corners are cut, it now looks like one of the run down tatty chippy's you find on Washwoodheath road, dirty glass, dirty tiles, miserable shabby workers. At least have some pride and keep the place clean.

Muy buena comida rápida. Me dieron el pescado y patatas fritas normal y sabía muy bien. Volveremos por más comida poco saludable que sabe tan bien.

Horrible food staff wearing dirty clothes and serving customers , The chicken had feathers still stuck to them , I tried them twice to give them benefit of doubt but still the same old story , The people who say's this place is good with tasty food clearly does not know what hygiene is or what fresh food should taste like. Very disappointing just checked there score on door rating which also shows very low score for hygiene standard.

El servicio es una porquería que siga las instrucciones cuando pides. Parece que no importa si estás molesto con el servicio o la comida. Pedí pollo y patatas fritas, y después de unos 25 minutos y servir a los clientes que llegaron después de mí me dicen que tengo que esperar 10 minutos más para patatas fritas. Salgo con el pollo frito.

Worth a visit for cod fish and chips

For all my years of writing reviews, I'm confused as to what to write about this one. When I was a kid, I used to come this shop with excitement but once it came under a new management, the place changed however the finished product remained the same. I used to love they chicken and chips and if my heart desired some, this was the only shop I would've went to, even when it went under new management.. But in recent years, a lot have changed under the same management. New employees with new attitudes. They food seem to have downgraded quite drastically as well, not to mention they customer service has also dropped. The condition of the place is appalling. The oil they use to cook is disgusting. I don't think I could recommend this play anymore. The only reasons I gave 2 stars is because I see there is a chance of improvement.

Me gusta ir a este chips, pero estoy obligado a como está realmente cerca. Hoy me fui en un pez grande y pedimos y patatas fritas. Cuando llegué a casa, yo estaba indignado por las patatas fritas. Eran claramente refritos de la noche anterior. eran negros y dura. El pescado como de costumbre no era genial, todos blandos por dentro.Evitar ESTE LUGAR COSTO - NO MALGASTES TU DINERO

Cod fish is nice chip are not nice tho

Used to be the best chip shop in alum rock! However, I’m very disappointed it’s gone down hill fish has to much colouring added to it. Prices have gone up drastically, hygiene is appalling and overall food taste and quality is terrible. I highly recommend you avoid this shop like the plague unless they fix up!

Es una pena. Podemos decir esto era una comida muy decepcionante. El personal era muy agradable y simpática. La decoración y el ambiente no te puedes quejar, pero la comida era bastante horrible. Tuvimos la junta de pescado que no era genial. Sentí que era algo que podía llegar desde Fuente de fiesta de Islandia. El coq au vin era extraña. Muy fornidos en sabor. No dejar más de ella. . El restaurante y no cobran por ello. Hemos estado aquí antes y siempre ha sido genial, pero que no volvería.

Lugar bien, pero las fichas no ponen suficiente y el medio cono vacío. beas Otro problema es que no escuche las instrucciones porque una vez le pregunté al poner solo sal y vinagre y ponen mucho frío en mi salsa de patatas fritas, así que tuve que volver

Este, así que no lo mismo que hace unos años. La comida no es tan sabrosa y las patatas fritas ya no son las mejores patatas fritas famosos de alumrock. El servicio es bastante lento, pero eso no importa si la calidad de la comida era buena. Muy decepcionante ver una tienda de chips que se destacó por la calidad ahora es sólo otra media normal de descongelamiento...
