Tucked away near the canal, if you didn’t know it was there, you’d miss a treat. Visited several times, latest with a friend for a long needed catchup. Just had coffee and cake but excellent choice of cakes and not small portions! As it was sunny and warm we opted for an outside table - plenty of tables both inside and out. Staff friendly. Parking is on the road but there is a car park down by the canal only a couple of hundred yards away should the road be full

I have been visiting this cafe since it opened During Covid they started to use cardboard cops , plates etc The problem is they still do !! Why ? The cups have an internal plastic coating so they cannot be recycled , same with the box they serve cake in What has happened to all the crockery they used to use ? It’s a really lovely place but they need to wake up and smell their own coffee and be more environmentally aware

A lovely relaxing place to have a drink and cake. not a huge menu but panini and soup both lovely, we had great service and I don't mind the recyclable cups & trays, it saves on water and staff wages etc. the cakes are fantastic and very helpful with allergens.

We called in for lunch and had parsnip soup which was delicious. There were 3 soup options as well as paninis and cakes of course! There is a huge cake selection and they all looked fab. I had the lemon gluten free cake which was great. The only disappointment is the card cups and plates, though they are recyclable.

The cafe is in a great location because kids can play in the field next to the cafe while adults enjoy a coffee and AMAZING cake - better than most cafes I have been to! However, I am put off going again because they use throw away cups, plates, knives - everything is throw away! This is really not good for the environment and is wasteful. Please use washable cups and plates and I will be back regularly

I’ve been going to the Higher Ground cafe since it first opened with my family and friends and we’ve always loved it and my kids love it too. The location is beautiful and relaxed and it’s decorated tastefully. The coffee, cakes and hot food are all delicious. The staff are friendly and the ambience great. However I have been disappointed and concerned to find that the paper / cardboard cups and containers introduced during covid have remained. Both inside and outside. I feel disturbed by this in the current emergency of climate change. Yes at least they are made of paper / wood but even better if they were pot, metal, glass. Permanent utensils and crockery which can be washed and reused time and again instead of single use. Not to mention how much better food and drink taste in proper cups / bowls, etc. Hopefully this, my only reservation to using this cafe, will change.

Amazing homemade food and cakes. However the service is lacking. The queues got longer as 3 members of staff had no idea of organisation. My first Saturday job was working in a cafe and although I had no previous experience I very quickly became organised and realised how essential it is to give customers quick and efficient service. Could these members of staff be given some training ? They were very pleasant but totally oblivious to the queue lengthening and being efficient in getting their drinks and food served. Shame.

Called today whilst walking the dog, waited 20 mins in the queue to order 2 coffee's which took no time at all to be made. Staff making coffee while doing Pannie's, staff in and out of the kitchen doing??? all on/in cardboard cup's, trays forks, knives so no washing up to distract staff, why so long. It needs one ordering, one making coffee/tea and someone doing pannie's etc. Will not be returning even though it was recommended.

I’m surprised by the negative reviews, but each to their own! Therefore I thought I’d add mine. I’ve been here numerous times on my own and with friends and every time the cake has been excellent (and huge slices) and the coffee great. I can’t comment on sandwiches here but the cake is the main draw - yes there’s no price list, yes that would be nice but I can guarantee it’s better and much cheaper than the soulless chains of mass produced muck that many people weirdly prefer. I agree, please go back to proper cups and plates, but I won’t deduct a star for that. Finally, I’ve never found the staff anything but delightful but I always think you get what you give.

This is a nice cafe - good for families and dog friendly too. Lovely seating area outside with place for children to play. A couple of minor points: it is disappointing that they serve all drinks and food regardless of whether they are take away or eat in, on disposable plates/cups. They have china crockery behind the counter but they do not use this. This is not very ‘green’ and seems very wasteful. Also, the cakes are great but no prices are displayed. A price list should be on show to save you having to ask.

Went for a walk with friends along the canal and we spotted the outdoor seating area so wandered up to check out the cafe. So glad we did! Very reasonable pricing, good quality products (it was hard to resist the cakes!) and the lady serving us was wonderful. The place is really dog friendly and our pups will be eager to return for their sausage treats! Thank you ☕️

Lovely atmosphere and food. Arranged a catch up with a friend and felt comfortable staying and chatting. The food was lovely, the chilli was homemade and flavoursome. All the cakes and treats looks amazing, we sampled the cookie which was very nice. The kids area is a nice touch, clean and safe, where little one’s off all ages can play.

I love this place! You get a warm welcome, the surroundings are lovely. If you want a place to take the kids/grand kids this place is perfect. On the other hand, if you want peace and quiet & a chance to catch up with yourself definitely not recommended.

I call in here often whilst out walking my dog, sometimes alone, with my daughter or with a big group of dog walkers. We are always made to feel very welcome. You can sit outside in the sunshine but dogs are allowed inside the cafe too. I love the decor, its not fussy but there is attention to detail, for example fresh flowers on every table. The Flat White coffee is great! My daughter recommends the Leek and Potato soup and she also likes the paninis. The cakes are delicious too, there is so much choice. Prices are higher but you get what you pay for. They take cards now too. Looking forward to being back here with the dogs soon.

What a shame; so much history and absolute pride of place on this beautiful high street and the owners have created an absolutely soulless tourist trap with zero character 😔 having said that, prices weren't too expensive for the area so not all bad I guess.

I was looking for somewhere new to try that was dog friendly, that wasn’t too far away. I searched for the previous pub name as always wanted to try it and realised it was under new management. When we arrived it wasn’t busy but we had a warm greeting and had a choice of tables. The decor is really nice and cosy and our dog was given a bowl of water. We chose from the grill menu which was exceptional value and included a drink, chose Madri. We both had sirloin steak with all the trimmings including sauce and it was really good, piping hot and tasty. As it was a warm night we ordered another drink and sat outside overlooking the amazing view. We will be back for grill night and to try the main menu which had reasonable prices for food and wine. We aim to support local business and have told friends about this place, some have booked for next week already. If you want a good country pub without rip off prices (which most seem to have) then give this a try. Inside has fires and twinkly lights which will be lovely in winter. Service was welcoming and friendly and we are looking forward to our next visit. We will get a taxi so we can have a few drinks. No photos of the food but here is one of the view.

No leadership or management presence. Demoralized directionless staff. Any effort expended is targeted at bemoaning why things are awful rather than fixing them.

Exceptional place... coming from Paris it's my first time in Bradford and certainly not the last... what can I say? Please open a place like this in Paris 🥹🙏🏻. For those who read this comment: the food is just delicious, the cocktails delicious, the hookah incredible and the service super fast and professional, The cleanliness of the place +++, The perfect DJ... well, in short, it even exceeds my expectations . I have visited many countries around the world, many beautiful restaurants but when it comes to shisha I have never seen the perfect combo like here. I adore!!! I recommend you go there with your eyes closed!
