This hotel does not have a spa anymore so if you are expecting any spa facilities stay away. Parking is also very tight and accessible parking is all blocked off so also be prepared to have to park miles away and pay for parking.

Garden room smells of damp so offered a number of smaller rooms :-( which is not acceptable after going out and coming back to room the tiny single radiator is making a horrendous noise so it’s had to be turned off. When complained the night ‘manager’ Roman is just rude and not helpful and just not interested. It’s taken over an hour to now have a plug in heater and it’s 01.37 in the morning whilst he is sat with his back to me in a warm reception with a heater. Even the kettle was broken in the room with the lid coming off releasing steam over my hand . The guy sent to help me was trying to be helpful, his ‘manager’ by the name of Roman just downright rude. I will make a formal complaint in the morning to some more senior to him. Unfortunately unable to post photos of the poor standard. However 2nights at £194 room only with no heating is just shocking.

This was our favourite hotel in Bournemouth. I have allergies, and this is normally safe for me. The hotel lobby, this time, had a strong fragrance that upset my asthma, but the bedrooms are neutral smelling, beds comfy, and the refurb bedrooms were lovely. The only thing wrong was that the bathroom was tiny. In a superior sea room too. The sink was behind the door. You could not get 2 people in the bathroom. M EDIT: Our stay over Christmas 2024 was ruined by the strong Christmas fragrance being pumped out in the ground floor. It was so thick, I could taste it. I asked them to turn it off and they could not. The smell is invading the whole hotel, the lifts, the corridors and we had to barricade us in the bedroom to stop the smell coming in. It did not work, I had an asthma attack and spent the night in a chair under an open window. We got a small amount off our bill for our trouble. I can't see us ever staying there again.

I would have loved to have given a 5 star review, however, we was not told at check in that there was a function being held directly below our room, unfortunately , this was going on until 2 am so what was set to be a relaxing evening away turned into early hours annoyance! Saying that, the room was lovely and clean staff was friendly and welcoming and i would come back to stay again. Not recommened if you do not like a very soft bed!

Severely disappointed. I have had to take Parking Eye to court after parking here and the Reception team taking no responsibility for their failure in entering my number plate incorrectly and receiving a huge fine in the post. The hotel looks nothing like they advertise. A bit of a tip to be honest.

Very sad to see how the Leisure Club has just been abandoned. This was a community hub and now it has been destroyed pending planning approval and demolition. Spoke to a worker on site he said it's about to be bulldozed. If you look through the windows you can see it's current state a right mess. There also appears to be several fake 5 star reviews using Library pictures which I have reported to Google. The hotel do not want you to see the bad ones and to increase their overall score. The parking eye is also something to watch out for at this tired hotel plus the rear of the hotel with lots of abandoned buildings full of junk. Miss Marple was filmed here years ago and she would be so terrified to see it's current state. The road outside the hotel is collapsing over the cliff and is now closed making it very difficult. The leisure club is also very close to the cliff and is showing cracks on it's outside wall since it is no longer maintained. It is as though nobody can see it, but I assure you it is still there and in a terrible state and so sad to see how Marriott well they don't really care. Not what it once was. Avoid if you possibly can and book elsewhere.

Me & my family (a couple & one child 4 years of age) booked a one bedroom suite at The Bournemouth Highcliff Marriott for NYE. The room itself was lovely (room 217) & we had an incredible view of the seafront & the fireworks on the beach. Upon arrival, we were faced with the some of the worst customer service I’ve ever experienced, by a member of staff called Sarah. No smile, no greetings or friendliness you’d usually expect when checking into a hotel, especially around the festive period. Our check in was at 4pm which is late enough, only to be told that the people that were in our room had paid for a late check out which was 4pm & the cleaners then needed to get into the room & clean before we could access the room… At 5pm at earliest. We explained that we had been travelling all day, had a child with us & plans were arranged for the evening as it was NYE so would like to get into the room ASAP & asked how the mix up had happened. We were then told “these things happen & nothing could be done about it” by Sarah who was the person checking us in. She also made a rude & sarcastic comment “I’m so sorry that what I’m telling you has infuriated you”. She also got a little goody bag ready for my daughter, which was then dismissed as soon as I expressed I wasn’t happy. Charming. She made us feel so belittled & everything was said in a very patronising manor. If it wasn’t for it being NYE, we would have just left the premises & found a different hotel to stay in for the evening. As we were not satisfied with the way we were being spoken to, we asked to speak to the manager to see if anything else could be done. My partner spoke to the manager & he did manage to sort us out a different room for 4pm & knock off the £11.50 for parking for the inconvenience. Would never in a million years put my money back into this establishment. I would however pay for Sarah to go on a couple of customer service training courses if The Marriott would like me to recommend a good provider.

We stayed at this hotel on October 13th, and from the moment we arrived, the service was top-notch. A special thanks to Sarah, who provided outstanding hospitality throughout our stay. She recognized our Platinum membership benefits and went above and beyond by helping us plan our local sightseeing route. Sarah even hand-drew a map to the nearby station, which was incredibly helpful. Some of the rooms have been newly renovated, and the sea-view room we stayed in was incredibly comfortable. The scent in the lobby was also pleasant and welcoming. The hotel is conveniently located right across from the beach, making it very easy to access the ocean. There are plenty of attractions nearby, and we took the 50 bus tour to explore the area. Unfortunately, due to my own reasons, we didn’t make it to Old Harry Docks, but we did visit the charming town of Swanage, which was still a fantastic experience. Overall, we had an amazing stay and would highly recommend this hotel!

If you are reading this review , please do yourself a favour and DO NOT visit this Marriott property especially if you are looking to celebrate anything special. We are loyal BonVoy elite customers for 10+ years now and this is the worst hotel we have ever visited and the worst ever stay we have had with Marriott. 1) There is no separate check in counter for Elite guests which is present in all other Marriott properties across the world; 2) The ladies at the reception are cold , un-inviting and the check in experience is very bland. No pleasantries and Sara/h was basically interested in finishing her standard guest check in pitch to get rid of us and did not answer any of our questions; 3) We requested for an upgrade (platinum guest) but the hotel was full so we were told we couldn’t get any (we booked the second best room available and checked on the BonVoy app and rooms of the highest grade were available so we were given false information); 4) Upon check in we saw the room had stains on the carpet, the towels, the glasses and there were no water bottles , we called the front desk 10+ times and no one answered, we then went down to complaint and were told that it will be taken care of, however nothing was taken care of , we got frustrated and went out for sightseeing instead; 5) The next day we left for the beach and came back at about 4pm to find a dirty room that was not cleaned. It is to note that even though we didn’t need to we reminded the front desk on the BonVoy app messaging feature as well to get our housekeeping done but it wasn’t till 4pm. We then called the from desk and as usual no one ever answers the call, we went down stairs to complaint and were told that the cleaning was still going on - the front desk or the housekeeping team did not even bat an eyelid at our complaint… after 30 mins an old Asian lady with a frown on her face came up to clean the room and asked us to leave otherwise she will not clean. When we told her to come back in 15 minutes she literally yelled at us and told us that she does not have the time. This was the breaking point for us as it is absolutely unacceptable for the housekeeping staff to yell at us and ask us to get out of a room that we have paid for just because they failed to do their job timely. We STILL left because we were tired at this point and knew the room will not be cleaned if we didn’t leave; 6) We then asked for the staff to cut our stay by a night and only stayed 2 nights instead of 3 as originally intended as by this point our celebratory mood had been ruined.; 7) This is an area where it rains a lot and there are NO umbrellas in the hotel even to rent. OVERALL it was clear that the staff is discontented with the hotel management and taking it out on the customers. From a customer point of view we are paying more than what we did before covid and shortage of staff / management issues should not be up for customer concession especially when we are paying more - Marriott needs to take care of their operations and this hotel does not even deserve to be a single star , forget four or five star. Continuing the horrible guest experience Marriott and the hotel did not send us the guest satisfaction survey to leave a feedback (as they are aware what a poorly managed property this is) so leaving the feedback out here and on other websites. The only positive is the location so do not believe the fake reviews here otherwise

Good location and plenty of helpful staff to assist with any issues. Issues such as getting on their wifi which they certainly don't make very easy. They also must have run out of breakfast tea as I'd only been provided with green tea in my room all week. Breakfast is put on by a different company and although the buffet was ok, anything cooked was below average at best. The coffee also tasted like budget instant. Worst thing though was the parking. It's not cheap and you may well not even find a free spot anyway as it seemed permanently rammed when I visited in August. It's got some amazing views of the sea from the bar/restaurant but if you're room doesn't also have the view there's definitely nothing enticing about this hotel aside from maybe the very good Thai restaurant around the side.

A massive inconvenience to pay for parking at the reception desk, which was really poorly managed today. Plenty of staff around, just not serving customers. We stayed at the Marriott for a week, arriving on 23rd June 2024. The hotel and room was very nice although we do feel a bit overpriced. Breakfast was probably one of the best we have had in a hotel in this country. The location was perfect for us and very quiet area. The hotel staff were excellent and helpful (especially the reception staff) although one day our bed was not made and the room only partially cleaned, we assumed that the member of staff may have been called away, mid clean. Our only minor complaint was the fridge in the room was next to useless and only slightly chilled bottled water. May we suggest the fridges are upgraded to include an ice box compartment to freeze ice packs. Overall a great vacation.

We had a very comfortable stay in the main building a few months ago. No problems. This time we booked to stay in the Kings Cottage in a "Delux" room. The room was furnished exactly the same as the website photograph but the furnishings were tired, grubby and smelt musty. The bathroom had meldew. The receptionist offered us another room in the same block which was probably furbished at the same time, it did not have arm chairs only one desk chair but the bathroom seemed cleaner. Not at all what we were expecting. All the staff were welcoming and helpful and the food was excellent.

We ended up having cold showers in the middle of winter, as the checking out time was getting closer. At the front desk they offered my husband to waive 12 pounds parking fee for the inconvenience and recommended to write to the Head Office. That won’t change the fact the hotel failed to provide the basics and we have to have cold showers in the middle of winter. Very unimpressed.

Updated 2023 - this is our third or fourth stay over the years, and since our last, some of the rooms have been beautifully renovated. Unfortunately the indoor pool has now gone (seems to be the trend), and the outdoor one was shut (off season). The staff are very friendly and efficient and the location is great. We were less fortunate with weather this time (wind, rain and some hail). Unfortunately there are some guests (let’s just say “from over the pond”) who are impolite. The car park is pretty small (in terms of number of spaces and size of them.). It’s a bit of pot luck if you can get one. We’ll come back again earlier in the year. 👍

Awful customer service, really disappointing in all aspects. We won't be returning. Having regularly stayed at JW Marriott's for business trips we thought we would take advantage of the good weather and stay at what we thought was a premium hotel on 17 June 2022. We were so disappointed and would suggest alternative options if you want to enjoy your holiday. We arrived in the evening to found no parking available due to an event. All of the staff seemed to be pre occupied with the event rather than taking care of the guests. Rather than having a partnership with alternative parking providers that should be equivalent in cost we were directed to other random public car parks which were more expensive! At check-in reception just provided a map and said try here and there. After driving around for an hour we finally found some parking. You stay at such a hotel in Bournemouth to take the hassle out of such issues! We eventually entered the room and were surprised to find no drinking water, fridge not working, no shampoo and not even any slippers. This is unacceptable especially given the prices charged. We had to repeatedly call to address these items which again is not what you want to waste time on. Key cards also continued to stop working. The floors are creaky, but that is to be expected given the old building, however the bathroom was outdated. Restaurant is run by Brasserie Blanc (we were later told independent to the hotel but as it is in the hotel Marriott should be responsible for the service and behaviour). Food was good with decent portions although the staff were running around chaotically even though it wasn't that busy. We later went for a tea and coffee in the bar and encountered the rudest bar man (Mark/Marc?). He took our order and we sat down next to the bar. After patiently waiting 15 minutes and watching him serve multiple people we popped back to ask where our drinks were, he ignored us for a few minutes and then once we got his attention he made an excuse he didn't see us (not true). The drinks had been sitting on the side all that time. There was no apology and after we made it clear we would not take the cold tea and coffee we had to ask for a refund. The manager (in a blue shirt) also wasn't too bothered which is just typical of the attitude at this place. It seemed like they thought refunding us was a favour and would make up for the hassle. Breakfast was good although milk coffees should be included. Note to management service maters!

We stayed here for one night in May as what was supposed to be a very special treat on a return to the UK after not traveling there for 3 years because of Covid. Our room was TERRIBLE. Literally the WORST hotel room we have ever stayed in. (Even compared to cheap motel rooms in the USA!) Had we not been meeting friends there for dinner (which was fabulous) we would not have accepted the room. The staff tried their best, but this room is CLEARLY about to be refurbished. Terrible bed. A sofa you defintely wouldn’t want to sit on, and a bathroom that was like a bathroom in a hospital from the 60s. We had to use THOUSANDS of points to stay here, and my husband was devastated as It was supposed to be a special treat for us whilst staying in Bournemouth. I implore you, before you book here, get confirmation in writing that you will get a newly refurbished room, otherwise avoid this hotel at all costs.

First night here of 5 and the room is fantastic, the food is devine but I'm afraid to say all this is put into the shade from the service from the staff. From the moment I first registered to book in, to the people serving. It was all above 5stars

This is one of the worst hotels I’ve stayed at. The furniture in the room is old torn and dirty. Curtains are covered in dust. The reception desk is under staffed and only one person on the desk which means a long delay waiting to check in and check out. This is a one star hotel at most

The renovated ground floor gives the logical impression of a decent hotel. Unfortunately this is not replicated in the rooms. Take a few step up the stairs beyond the lobby and the modern decor suddenly comes to an end as you are met with a hotel that looks 40 years older. Mattresses were terrible, massive dips in the middle. Should have been replaced a long time ago. Big gaps under bedroom doors lets light in all night from the corridors. Poor value for money. Nice staff and a good bar / restaurant though. Great location.

Clean room, comfy bed, great location, good breakfast. My only criticism is the lack of a toilet brush in the bathroom. Being away from home and enjoying rich foods and fine dining I have found that on more than one occasion I have completely destroyed the toilet bowl during my morning ablutions. It is not without a measure of embarrassment that I have left several atrocities for the poor cleaning staff to have to clear up after me. Indeed, if this were a war zone I fear I would have a strong case against me in the International Criminal Court for crimes against humanity. All of this unpleasantness could have easily been avoided by furnishing the bathrooms with a toilet brush. Otherwise a great experience, would come again.

Fabulous location, straight in to the ocean and lovely staff. Stayed over the Easter break in one of the sea facing rooms and the staff did a fabulous job in making our stay a pleasure!. While the room, location of the hotel (tens of steps away from the beach) and the Marriott standards was absolutely enchanting, the over and above parking charges at 12£/day and average food was a downer. All in all a good hotel with great staff but, not a compelling food & attention to detail place.

Absolutely fantastic location with fabulous sea views from our room and just a short walk down to the beach. The staff were friendly, helpful and very welcoming. The room didn't live up to our standard neither did the breakfast. However that wouldn't put us off returning as the standard of cleaning was exceptional.

The so called 'superior' room had threadbare chairs, patches of dirty carpet, rusty shower doors but had a wonderful sea view. Staff very friendly. Breakfast just warm. The hotel needs a refurb.

This place has clearly seen better days. The downstairs areas have been refurbished but this ends as one goes up the stairs. My room was ok but needed to be refurbished. The downstairs areas are nice enough. I ordered a whisky at the bar from their menu to be told they don’t have it and the choice I was offered was very limited. I then saw a lot of other whiskies elsewhere at the bar that the barman clearly didn’t know he even had! I don’t think this is a great example of the Marriott brand.

To be fair was a nice hotel....but, I felt like it has got a bit tired. Was kept awake most of the night as the windows whistled in the wind. Possibly the worst cocktails I've come across they also cleared the bar a few minutes after last orders with nowhere to go a sit and finish our drink!!

Grand old hotel with loads of character. Yes, the odd bit of shabby here and there but overall nothing to spoil your stay. We booked a family room for 4, (2 double beds) which turned out to be one of their "cottages" - a a run of maisonette type rooms seperate from the main hotel. Fantastic sea view and a door that leads to a lovely garden area. (Ground floor only) Breakfast was fantastic - buffet style, plenty of choice. Brilliant stay. We will be back!

The hotel is very old school. Due to historical reasons the hotel occupied several buildings. There are cottages, main building and annex. I was upgraded to a sea view room on the main building. I enjoyed my room very much. The hotel is nice and too busy in winter. I can imagine the hotel being super busy in summer time. I also enjoyed my breakfast and dinner in hotel restaurant. There are many eateries around and you won't get bored. There is also a Nisa Local nearby to stock essentials should you needed. Highly recommended.

Very sad to say for a high quality establishment it was very low quality. Dirty bath tub, stains on the curtains and breakfast was below average with stale bread and croissants. The rest of the breakfast was cold. When challenged at reception they refused to get the manager we could only email our complaints. Very disappointed and would not recommend.

The staff were excellent when we complained about the awful smell coming from the bathroom in our room. We were moved to another room but unfortunately the room was full of stained furniture, poor cleaning and the hotel was so dated, tired and dirty. Definitely not worth the money we paid. So much potential, just needs massive upgrades/updating. Staff however were excellent.

January special was extremely good value for money and delicious (starters: scotch egg, chick-pea caesar salad, mains: minute steak, gnocchi, dessert: sticky toffee pudding. Super service from Ewelina and the rest of the fantastic Libertine team who made a huge fuss of our doggos who loved their Libertine dog treats. Many thanks.

I visited the Southbourne Ludo and, for some unknown reason, the QR code took me to the ordering page of the Romano Ludo branch. I did not realise this and ordered the egg brunch and a coffee with a hazelnut shot. Service was quite slow. A coffee appeared and I asked the woman who brought it if it had a hazelnut shot, she said yes, so I drank it, despite thinking it did not taste like it had hazelnut syrup in it, and was just a bit confused. My friend's lunches appeared, mine did not, and my husband's coffee never made an appearance. When we queried this, the server said they had no note of my order, and that the coffee had already been delivered - it turns out that I had accidentally drank my husband's coffee (which didn't have hazelnut syrup) all because the person who brought it blindly agreed it was my order. I asked to speak to the manager. He was quite indifferent, telling me the server who had agreed it was my coffee is just someone who takes coffees to tables and has no idea of the orders (which begs the question of why would she just blindly agree without double checking first?) And it turned out that I had ordered my breakfast to a branch I was nowhere near. This is my error, I recognise that, but, equally, the manager's response was lacking. He was dismissive, curt, and only took action when I asked directly what could be done. He said he'd call the Romano branch and ask them to refund my order and I'd have to reorder at Southbourne Ludo, which I did. However, he never came back to me about what happened after he contacted Romano. He delivered some beers to our table and I took the opportunity to ask him what happened and he said they'd refund it but it didn't sound particularly concrete and, as yet, I have no email confirming a refund nor any monies returned to my account. I am going to give it until Monday, if I don't have have money returned, I will take this up further, but I think they really need to work on their customer service and problem solving skills.
