Great cafe in the village of Tideswell Lovely team of staff and great service Excellent food and great atmosphere, well worth a visit

What a lovely visit to this cafe! The place was buzzing with lots of local folks enjoying morning coffee. We had very good flat whites and some delicious cake. Service was swift and friendly. We’ll definitely be back during our holiday in Tideswell.

I visited this cafe many times when it was High Nellies and it was fab. Now it has new owners it's totally different. If you want coffee or tea with 'a little something sweet there is very little choice as the scones or tray bakes seem not to be available at coffee time. The cake available is very over priced and too big to have with one cup of coffee. The staff were always so polite and attentive. It's the same staff now but they have a different attitude altogether. Apart from one they don't have the same work ethic as before and have lost their friendly customer manner. My order failed to appear at a time when the cafe was virtually empty. After a reminder it finally came 40 minutes after the order was placed. It was brought by the new owner who didn't even apologise for the delay and seemed quite annoyed. There might have been a problem I didn't know about which affected her behaviour but I was a customer and she should have been more professional . I felt uncomfortable and am reluctant to repeat the visit for now. My advice is for the whole staff to be more professional .

Used to visit when it was High Nellie’s and was awesome- visited lots of times and always happy with everything . New owners and staff and now it’s a different matter. Visited February 2024 and found a very over-priced menu and smaller menu, none of the very popular Waffles/ pancakes anymore. Ordered brunch just scrambled egg on toast and beans on toast- took 35 minutes to arrive, when asked where food was staff were very rude. Finally got the meals and pitiful portions- 1 slice of bread with a bit of warm scrambled egg on, the other meal was not what was ordered, complained and had to explain what was ordered, staff took I it back brought it again- wrong again when my friend said it didn’t matter didn’t want the meal after all the time it took and being wrong twice, the meal was put forcefully on the table and left there. Asked for a refund as the meal was not touched/ eaten as not what ordered and the staff member refused and was very rude. Will definitely not return, and be warned if something goes wrong customer service is appalling. The staff need a bit of training in customer service and communication.

Tideswell Longe is a great addition to the village, friendly service, great food and dog friendly. Lots of good vegan options, home made cakes looked beautiful. We will be back!

Saturday morning 10am, empty or almost empty. Good food, coffee and service. The potential is great, drinks aside the menu is mainly overpriced and somewhat limited. Would keep returning if the menu gets a bit more creative (as it was when it was Nelly’s). Eg Oatcakes? Pancakes? Waffles? choose from a list of toppings? Also some more basic cafe food at affordable prices would be great. Fancy sandwiches are ok but only if you’re happy to pay £8.50! Would really benefit from some basic £5 toasties/paninis etc for those who don’t need or want their sandwich to be so expensive or come with a salad. Good luck to the team, we really want you to succeed.

Delicious breakfast, great service and lovely atmosphere. Will definitely be back. New owners have added some nice touches and good to see that they are open more days.

We visited today in the drizzling rain. The cafe was warm and cozy, very clean and has lovely decor. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Dog treats were available for our pooches who came with us (very dog friendly). We had very moist and generously sized cakes and scones, and I must say the coffee is exceptionally nice (I am very fussy with coffee). My little boy enjoyed the baby hot chocolate with marshmallows and cream and his huge slab of cake. Lots of tasty goodies on the menu, including my favourite baked Camembert. Will definitely visit again. 10/10.

This place is perfect. Lovely location, excellent food (granola for me, full English for him and great coffee), very attractive decor and pristine loos. A real find.

Popped in here for breakfast, I am gluten free, which I explained to the staff, they were very professional about my illness. We both had a full English breakfast, everything was hot including the plates which I think is very important. They also had gluten free toast for myself. This is a lovely gem of a place for breakfast lunch or just pop in for a tea/coffee and cake, Lovely walks around the area too We will be back.

Tideswell Lounge is a hidden gem! I recently enjoyed a delicious full English breakfast that left me thoroughly impressed. The food was lovely, with each element being perfectly cooked. The cafe's inviting atmosphere is perfect for a leisurely meal or catching up with friends. The staff's friendliness and attentiveness added to the positive experience. Tideswell Lounge is a must-visit for those seeking fantastic food, a great ambiance, and a welcoming staff. I can't wait to return for another delightful experience!

Great ambience. Enjoyed a full English breakfast with a pot of proper hot tea… faultless. It was very busy and I felt some of the younger staff need to settle in to the rhythm of the buzzing environment in this newly opened café. Otherwise, enjoy…. I’ll certainly be back! 😉

The independent cafés seem mostly to offer the best service and this was no exception. The staff are friendly and free of drawings upon their person. The coffee was very good and the establishment has a air of calm about it, which could cause you to easily outstay your welcome. The decor made it feel very English with the attention to detail in its furnishings and decoration extremely pleasing. There were a number of pretentious customers, who I gathered to be locals and their conversation made me chuckle because they all seem to consider themselves experts. The village is totally free of yellow lines and parking didn't seem to be a problem, I assume that the lack of warden patrols is all down to it being inhabited by the idle rich. Nevertheless there is some interesting architecture here. Unfortunately High Nellie's Cafe has now closed down like so many other businesses that are closing every single day. It reminds me of what Thatcher did to my country, Yorkshire in the eighties.

Excellent breakfast as a family when on holiday in Tideswell. It is currently open Friday to Sunday only for those looking to visit. Everything is clearly homemade and cooked to order. Cafe was very busy but we managed to get a seat and service was quick and friendly!

A fantastic cafe, with homemade food and cakes etc. Visited a couple of times when I was in the area, we had coffee and cakes the first visit. Great tasting coffee and the carrot cake and scone were both delicious. Second time we came we had a couple of breakfast options the Derbyshire oatcake with bacon was brilliant, the best bacon I have ever tasted. This place is popular and after eating here and tasting the coffee my wife and I could understand why. The staff were happy and friendly and I would happily recommend it

Visited Last Sunday 22nd. 6 of us + 1 dog. Lovely place, charming staff & one of the best Sausage & Bacon Granary Baps I’ve had in a very long time. As for the coffee well that beats the National Chains easily. Highly recommend stopping here. Thx guys we will see you soon. Richard & friends + Ollie 🐶🥰

Fabulous place you cannot fault it

Lovely little cafe, fit for locals and travellers alike. Welcoming staff who are on the ball. The food is excellent, the pastrami open sandwich is a sight to behold and how they get the bread so soft is a small miracle 😄

Fabulous lunch. Fantastic pot of tea, plenty of milk and extra hot water brought without me having to ask. They also had skimmed milk available. The food was wonderful too. Lovely salads with three cheese tart. Really lovely dessert which we brought home as we were too full to eat it there.

Fantastic little cafe: perfect scrambled eggs, good quality bacon and smoked salmon, fresh bread for toast, huge waffles with lots of cream, fruit and syrup, good coffee. Order at the counter after you've found a table and wish this place was near your house.

Excellent food, friendly service - do not hesitate to try this place but get there early if you want a table.

I would have given a 4 start if it wasn't for the fact that they were only serving the breakfast menu, when it clearly states that after midday they serve lunch. If I wanted a breakfast I would have gone to the excellent Yonderman cafe a mile or so down the road.

Breakfast starts on a Sunday at 9.15am. Lots of customers but not too busy. Great selection on menu - I opted for the Special breakfast. Very filling and enjoyable. Will visit again... Definitely!

Just wonderful ! Best coffee in ages. A prawn and egg sandwich which was heavenly. Sensible prices in the idyllic village. Sit in or tables outside. The cakes are all fresh made and superb. We love it here !

Been coming to High Nelly's for more than 5 years Its excellent, food quality is superb and reasonable prices. Pound for pound I don't think there's anything that beats it and I eat in lots of cafes. The owners put in a lot of time and effort to keep their standards high. We live in troubles times for small business and things can't be easy, So well done to all the staff at Nelly's

We visited on a Sunday and enjoyed the High Nelly's set breakfast. It was lovely to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine while watching the world go by too. We were told to find a table, note the letter, and order inside. Food did not take long to arrive and was hot and fresh. The hazelnut latte was yum too!

We had a lovely breakfast and coffee at High Nelly's Cafe. The staff were very friendly. Our food and drinks arrived promptly despite the place being really busy. We'd highly recommended coming here!

Loved this super Café, food excellent staff friendly decor interesting. If ypu visit the Cathedral you must come here. Check it's open 1st so you aren't disappointed. I would highly recommend.

Ate here this morning. Probably the best bacon and egg bap I've ever had.

Disappointed! Was very much looking forward to lunch here after reading the reviews and looking on line! The staff are miserable young girls with zero communication skills, they all look like they can’t wait to leave and as for customer service! I honestly don’t think they know what it is. We sat at a table that was full of dirty dishes as this was the only one available, several of the girls walked past and didn’t take any of them away! After a while we had to move them ourselves and use our hand wipes to clean the table. Whoever owns this place please note that your staff and their attitude towards & treatment of customers can make or break a place! Food was ok but pricey. Had a scone to takeaway and it was delicious and clearly freshly made. Some attention and TLC to customer service is needed!

We’ve loved High Nelly’s both times we’ve been here - once for pots of tea and waffles or pancakes with fruit and cream, near the end of a longish bike ride, and one first thing when we needed a good cappuccino apiece before heading on to Chrome Hill on a wintry day for a bracing walk with friends. It’s warm and welcoming, the decor’s a fine mix of traditional elements (and chairs), the service is quick, the prices reasonable and the drinks and the food are excellent. Long may it thrive - and we’ll certainly be back.

A fabulous five bean chilli warmed us up on a cold, damp bike ride. Really impressed with the quality of the food.

Two of us from a group of five visited this place, started with tea and waited for friends before having lunch. Staff were lovely, food was really nice. They even gave me four roibos tea bags to bring back to the holiday cottage when I had asked if I could buy a couple! Well worth a visit! Prices ok too!

If you want a great breakfast this is the place to go, have eaten here many times, great menu and delicious cakes and pastries. Limited day and time opening so check before visiting

Went for lunch after arriving in Tideswell at start of our holiday,we received a great welcome and ordered lunch.We both had homemade Mulligatawny soup with flatbread,it was amazing, lots of chicken and veg.Really wholesome,tasty food with good size portions. Well done.

Excellent. Pleasant atmosphere, nice staff, charming decor. Smoked salmon with scrambled eggs and rye toast, oatcake with eggs and bacon, scrambled eggs on toast - all spot on. Good coffee and a delicious cardamom bun. Highly recommended.

A local cafe in Tideswell, where they cook a lovely Full English.

Came here on Sunday at 2.30 pm and the waitress if we order at the counter, or sit down. We were abruptly told by a chap behind the counter "We are about to close, take out's only ".... His exact words, and didn't even bother to look at us as he chuntered. Two potential customers who live locally, and who will never return. The building has for sale signs up so I assume he doesn't give a hoot. We went across the road to The Roost cafe, fantastic.

End of a holiday based in Tideswell, had a treat before setting off home. The cafe has quite specific opening times, but thankfully this fit with our set-off-home timing. It's small, but very cosy (loved the decor). There is a pretty decent menu on offer; we visited for breakfast. As well as the menu items, it was lovely to find fresh baked goods on offer too (pastries, scones, breads).

We came here every morning during our weekend stay in Tideswell a few weeks ago. The cafe is inviting and charming. There are plenty of options for a range of diets and preferences to get you energised for the day ahead. We ordered eggs florentine and the veggie breakfasts. The coffees were made perfectly and the cardamom buns were the highlight so I recommend those: they were fresh and spongy and I have yet to find a bakery in London that makes them as good as Nelly's

Quality never varies. Excellent and out of the ordinary options, using locally sourced ingredients.

Was staying nearby. This place was soo good, loved the oatcake, had not had one before and it worked so well with the eggs and bacon. Was so good we came back a second day! Also enjoyed the books 🤣

Just travelled here after seeing reviews and after camping over further away. Sign on door saying closed today... Not happy... Maybe the hours should of been updated on here or a note putting on, instead of saying OPEN 🤔😭😭😭

A lovely cafe in the middle of the village, staffed by disinterested people. I don't think they've really stopped their Covid way of operating. No clarity on whether it's table or counter service. I didn't know there were specials until I saw them at the counter after being told menus were on the tables (they weren't on our table so I had to 'rob' another table of theirs). I've seen subsequently the business is for sale which perhaps explains why everyone was disinterested in customers or their behaviour explains why the business is for sale.

Every time I have visited High Nellys, the food has been utterly exquisite. The menu is extensive and imaginative and everything is clearly made and presented with love. The staff are really welcoming which makes the whole ambience of the place warm, cheerful and relaxing. It's rare that you can experience eating out without feeling there could be some improvement to make the experience perfect. But this place is one in a million. Perfection, in my opinion. High Nellys holds a special place in my heart.

A lovely place in a great location in the Peak District.

Prompt & friendly service. Seating inside and outside. A short menu + a few daily specials offer a good choice. We both thoroughly enjoyed our dishes.

Lovely atmosphere, very pleasant staff and brilliant food. The soup of the day was absolutely delicious and the waffles are a must. I would definitely recommend this cafe and will go back next time we are in Tideswell.

My family called in for hot chocolate and cakes on a dreadful rainy day. The choices were excellent, varied and delicious! Service good but could possibly be a little more interactive with customers. However this is just a little constructive criticism. I would definitely return.

Stopped in for breakfast one morning and really enjoyed it, we had the eggs Benedict and my son enjoyed his waffles.We are planning to return soon
