We paid almost £70 to attend a ‘magical Christmas event’ in early December (2 adults and a toddler) and are still awaiting the refund we were promised but have been referred to an external company who helped facilitate the event despite me telling them not to pass my details on as I refused to consult another company on their behalf - the barn sold the event directly through themselves & their website. The event was sold as 5hrs with many things not there on the day - wishing tree, markets, the grinch, face painting (to name a few!). It’s also sold as 15 to a group, the place was absolute CARNAGE - very small barn with easy 100 or more people crammed in. The ‘elf passport control’ was an empty pasting bench with no one manning it & the staff were clueless at what was going on. They gave out patterned paper chains to identify who was where & they even confused themself - it was a free for all & after 40mins we left. The frozen show was embarrassing & we were summoned to it 4 times to fill a void - it was cheesy kids holiday music … oh and the Yuletide menu was chips and hotdogs, the card machine didn’t work & I waited 25mins for chips that I ended up walking away from.

We went to high house barn for a Gaze and graze night. It was our first night away as a couple and we were very excited. Having had out first date stargazing with Liam who was looking after the stargazing portion of the evening, we knew it would be a good night. The yurt we stayed in was lovely. Big double bed, fluffy bedding, wood burner and a good amount of space. After enquiring about the fire pit prior to arrival, I was a little disappointed to see that there wasn't one in spite of being told there would be. As it happened, the weather put a stop to us being able to use one anyway, but having been told there would be one, we had bought stuff with us so we could sit out under the stars. Awwww! We also had no wood for the burner in the yurt so had to ask for them to pop some in the yurt whilst we went for the stargazing. Minor issues and quickly resolved, we got on with our night. The food was average at best. Overcooked pasta was the meal of the day. After paying £165 for the stay with a hot buffet, we were both expecting something a little better than that The reminder of the evening went well. We headed back to the yurt for around 9.30 and settled in for the night. Unfortunately, mother nature was having a field day outside and there were very high winds. Whilst I would never hold an establishment responsible for mother nature's temper, we had issues in the yurt that were avoidable. As a seasoned camper, I am used to being in all types of weather, but the yurt had a wooden door with a latch and no lock on it. As the wind got stronger, the door began to rattle and bang and even blew open on a couple of occasions. We wedged a bag against it in an attempt to stop the noise. At best, it stopped the door blowing open but there was still a rattle. Again, the weather is not the reason for this review. This was avoidable with a lock of some kind so that the door would be more stable. About an hour or so after that. A small area of the yurt began to come away because of how high the wind was. This not only created a draft, but we were unable to find a way of closing it back up. We persevered until 1am and then packed up and drove home. Between rattling doors and the draft, we had both had enough at that point. The reason I post this is there have now been 4 emails sent to the site with regards to the issues that we experienced, the first actually sent on the way home at 1am on Saturday morning. We have had absolutely no response which is utterly disappointing. I would have liked to resolve this privately, but the lack of contact has made that impossible. This was not a route I wanted to go down but I am hoping that this review will mean that they will respond to the emails already sent. Had you asked me about the customer service and response time prior to this, I would have given them 10 out of 10. The lack of contact has drastically changed that assessment.

Made a booking for a murder mystery weekend for 2 adults for my husbands birthday treat to include a stayover on thd 9th December 2023. Sadly on the morning, they had tried contacting me to cancel the event however we could still take the cabin, otherwise we could have a refund amongst other offers. We took the refund. A week later, after numerous calls, messages and emails, they are ignoring me. Gutted, as it is so near to Christmas and I've outstanfing bills to pay. They are due me £285. You aught to be well ashamed of yourself, this is no way to run a business. I dealt with a lady called Kirsty.

This was supposed to be a Magical Christmas Adventure to remember lasting about 5 hours. 2adults and 2 children cost £90.00. It’s hard to know where to start with this review as it was so awful. The rooms which were used inside were all freezing. There were not enough chairs for the children to sit on. There was only one bowl of icing for more than 15 children to decorate their biscuits. More was made but it was too late. There were not enough plates to put the biscuits on. Mrs Claus couldn’t understand why there was no Christmas music on in the room. The room chosen for Santa Claus was so poorly decorated and the white paper to hide the glass windows was falling off. The magical frozen mini show was a disgrace and certainly not a show in any sense of the word. We were supposed to indulge in some delicious festive food and drinks from the yuletide menu. Well this did not exist. But you could buy a hot dog etc from an outside table in the cold. The coffee from the urn was warm at best and there was one spoon to use. The quaint Christmas market did not exist. The face painting did not exist. I could go on but I think that will do. Some staff agreed that it had been very badly organised but I must say the staff did the best they could. Most people left after 3.5 hours. Elizabeth Fairney

We love this place. It's the second time we've stayed and it's just so chilled. Pretty bell tents which are clean and warm with the heating and we loved toasting marshmallows under the stars with the fire pit that's included. Staff are super friendly - they go out of their way to make sure you're happy. The bar is lovely, the breakfasts are first class and the Sunday lunch...you'll have seen other reviews and they speak for themselves...worth travelling quite some way for!

Arrived and Yert tent wasn't ready after 3pm check in. Staff onsite were friendly. Second night there was a power cut and with one of the main selling points being power and heated tents. With no guarentee of the time it would be restored the site was unsafe with no lighting in the bathroom facilities, we had to cut or stay short. In the summer you could ride this out but not in the winter. Have requested a refund for this night on safety grounds and have been awaiting a reply for several days. This is a business which promotes itself as a want-to-be 4 star hotel but the customer service is lacking massively and understanding of customers safety.

Our second visit as the first time was a let down however the staff were friendly and apologised that the poor service was due to a staff shortage. We decided to give the restaurant another shot as we are all for supporting family businesses. However again the service was even slower, one meal was forgotten and one order was wrong. Kids ‘homemade’ fish and chips arrived with one breaded fish finger and one battered fish finger?! We were sat for over an hour and we were only offered drinks on one occasion. I feel sorry for the people running the restaurant as you seem like good people however the social media and website is extremely misleading as the quality and service is not what you would expect. It is a shame as we were keen to book some of the events on offer but wouldn’t risk it for a third time.

The Halloween Party with Jack and Sally on Friday was brilliant, our son joined in the whole thing, first time ever he has joined in on a party, he also tried new food and slept so so well! We were welcomed as guests and feel like we’ve left as friends. Food and drinks 10/10. Huge thank you to Connor aswell for his fantastic hospitality and amazing performance on Friday 😉. We stayed in a bell tent, supplied with both heating and electricity, bedding and extra warm throws were provided, very comfortable indeed! Can’t wait to return early in the New Year. Can see this becoming a family favourite hotspot. Until next time gang. Thank you all so so much xx

We booked the Gaze and Graze event at High House Barn for the 20th October and we’re really looking forward to it. We were travelling from North Tyneside to my parents in Corbridge then going to make our way to the venue from there. I received a call from my brother and dad around 5pm to say they’d drove along the roads to the venue in their 4x4 on the way back from where they’d been and the water was horrendous and they’d struggled to get through so my car wouldn’t make it. I rang the venue to raise my concern and was advised the roads were fine, I explained I only had a small car (Toyota Aygo) and that I was really concerned my car wouldn’t make it. I was then told it was up to my discretion if I tried to go. I asked if a refund would be offered due to the road conditions and was told a straight ‘no’. I then rang my brother and parents to state what the woman had said about the roads and my mum called the venue to explain the situation again and ask if we could even be moved to a different event or receive a gift voucher for food etc to use at a safer time. The woman on the phone was abrupt and rude and stated there was no future events and that a gift voucher couldn’t be offered and there would be no refund. Following our two calls to the venue I received an email 20 minutes later that stated ‘I understand the roads are quite tricky but as the astronomer can get there it is still going ahead’ it then went on to advise we could collect our grazing boxes so they didn’t go to waste. This wasn’t mentioned on the call and was clearly an after thought from the venue - why would we step foot in a venue that views money and profit over the well-being and safety of visitors? This event was not a cheap evening out at £35 per head and I think it’s absolutely disgusting that in an amber weather warning a refund could not be offered. The guidance clearly states ‘You should think about changing your plans and taking action to protect yourself and your property’ but clearly the owner of High House Barn feels this does not apply to them or their customers. I’m sure the greed and selfishness of this business owner will do nothing but negatively impact the success of their business. Spend your money elsewhere with an establishment that actually cares.

Having eaten here very well mid-week we heard the fab reviews about Sunday lunch but unfortunately we were disappointed. The service was painfully slow and unfortunately the beef was really tough! Maybe we just picked a bad day or the chef was having an off...

We attend a wedding here today. It was in fantastic surroundings but such a disappointment with food. The hog roast which you provided had no taste whats so ever, to be honest, I think most of it was eaten due to the fact that everyone was so hungry after the wedding. It just didn’t taste of anything at all. There is no reason why a hog roast would taste so bland. The wedges/chips were cold, even though there were probably only 10 people in front of us and also the dressings looked very questionable. The staff serving looked like they didn’t want to be there. The only saving grace was the crackling. I really feel for the couple that paid out to feed their guests such sub standard food. To call yourselves a wedding venue and to over hear a member of staff (possibly a owner/manager) complaining that they had 3 weddings on the trot. You should be thankful for bookings you have. But by the standards I have seen today, you guys really need to sort your act out. Your place could be a fantastic place to be.

My daughter got married here at the beginning of July. From the moment we met the staff they couldn’t have been more accommodating. So laid back and relaxed. The days before the wedding they couldn’t have helped more and the venue was perfect on the day of the wedding. The day was so warm we put back the time of the wedding breakfast but they just coped with it all in their stride. The food was great. No complaints from anyone, and the drinks prices were really reasonable, helping the guests, many of whom had travelled great distances to be there. If you’re looking for a great venue for a relaxed wedding this one is it!

Despite being a little remote once you find it the first time you will return for sure. The beers are made on the premises and very nice too. The limited edition Nettle beer has to be tasted, it is just so different refreshing light and very tasty - only made one each year but is available in bottles if not on draught when you visit. The food is first class, served pipping hot and to the highest of standards. Staff all very friendly and nothing too much trouble. Nels best is one of the known beers which is a very good one. Go and try you will not be disapponted

Caroline and Jamie wanted a relaxed country wedding and this venue was perfectly suited to their vision. The open barn looked beautiful and though it rained later in the afternoon, we were able to stay outside undercover. On our first meeting Heather, the co-owner, went out of her way to ensure the couple had everything they wanted and we were impressed by her attention to detail and refusal to let us spend more than was necessary!

Had Sunday lunch at this restaurant. Standard sort of Sunday lunch menu but the quality of the food was unbeatable, starters, main course and desert. Service was quick and friendly. We had a three year old with us and it can be difficult to choose something for him to eat but the staff organised a special meal for him not on the menu. The beer brewed on the premises is very good.

I've just had a wonderful sunday lunch with my family. We had a range if starters fish cakes, prawn cocktail and pate. All of which were very well made. This was followed by Sunday lunch for all with a generous portion of gravy (I usually find that I run out and need extra) which all found to be delicious. Only 3 had room for desserts so I got a taste of cheesecake, malteeser ice cream and eton mess. Eton mess was definitively my favourite....its got fruit in it so in my head its healthy. Overall very good well flavoured food well done to the team.

Just returned from High House Farm, wow what an amazing place. Thoroughly enjoyed the brewery tour and the tasters at the end. Sunday lunch was one of the best I’ve had in a long time. I had the fish cake which was very tasty and was served with a nice salad and my partner had a very generous portion of homemade mushroom soup, which he said was delicious. For main course I had roast lamb and my partner had the beef. The portions of meat were very good and served with delicious vegetables. Unfortunately we couldn’t manage the desert but they looked gorgeous. The ales were reasonably priced at £3 a pint. All the staff were very pleasant and efficient. Well done to everyone, would highly recommend and will definitely return.

When to the Red Lion for dinner, staff very pleasant, bar area nice and spacious and generally clean ,that’s where it ends ,myself and wife sat at table no 42 facing the corner opposite, where four dogs were congratulating with there owners ,lovely dogs ,so lovely they had a dogs water bowl on there table ,the dogs sat on the seats next to there owners ,and even due to the fact that the owners put dog blankets on the seats ,the dogs just walked over the seats ,I do believe that the dogs found the tables ok for there use ,but call my old fashioned it was not acceptable to me and my wife ,please note iam not saying anything detrimental about the dogs they felt at home ,you may ask the question why I ordered the meals in this situation, one reason is that my wife does not like confrontation,so I kept my mouth shut ,the meal my wife wanted was not available so she chose another ,I chose Irish burgers Wow wow What a pile of rubbish ,mind you the dogs kept looking over at them ,but iam not cruel I love dogs ,would not like the vet bills if they ate them The icing on the cake was when my wife went for the salt she picked it up and low and behold they had not put the bottom on ,this in due course allowed the salt to pour out from the bottom ,method in there mad ness more salt kills the taste no complaints This is fact oh and do not drink the beer unless you like warm flat ale

Visit this pub frequently with family and live in forest hall. It’s a lovely pub and we always call in for a drink on a nice day when walking the dogs. They’re friendly and welcoming to all of us, and we always get what we want. It’s a pub, so you get what you bargain for - we normally get two pints of Stella, and large glass of wine and a fruity cider of some sort. We usually get like snacky food to share, nothing too high end. Anybody giving this pub a low rating, for honestly can’t understand why (unless they really dislike dogs). There isn’t a waiter, it’s all bar service, but it’s honestly lovely and always and the staff are always more than happy to help
