Friends had booked this restaurant, and although I had seen disappoint reviews, I had high hopes. The liver parfait to start was good, as was the flatbread .. soft shell crab average, as was the bread selection. Main course of steak probably not the best choice, and not overly tasty meat. Béarnaise sauce weak of tarragon, potato cakes average .. acorn cake desert enjoyable. However, the sour note of the night was the attempt to overcharge our table by £ 200 for a bottle of champagne. This has been written about in a previous review. A warning to future diners, as so often when in a group, one just splits the bill without checking it .. BEWARE. My friend had ordered a bottle of champagne for £133, yet on the bill was £ 333. When my friend discussed the matter with the sommelier, the excuse was the digital iPad menu and the way it is laid out. Our bottle of red wine was some £ 230, which is £80 in a shop. After a bit of heated discussion, the restaurant charged the £133. The average food, and the diabolical overcharging of the champagne, means I will not return.

I’d wanted to come to this place and try the chefs food for a long time, way back when he was over at Charlotte street… We had a lovely table, a booth style layout on the first floor towards the back of the restaurant which was fantastic & private as the other tables appeared quite close together… an Italian head waiter served us at beginning, but also a supervisor waitress, and junior waiting staff…as we discovered bloke was serving private party in back so it was hard to build an rapport with the Italian waiter… I asked if Ollie Dabbous/ head chef was working, sadly not, filming apparently somewhere in world…. Always sad when you come to a restaurant and the head chef isn’t working…. I guess that’s the day and age we live in now…. Anyway, on to the food, the bread selection was fantastic, very tasty with some lovely butter…. Followed by the Maldon oysters x 3 as sml entree, I opted for scallops and wife for tuna tartare… Thankfully we swapped dishes, I preferred the tuna than the single scallop, too many peas for my taste overpowering scallop…. The mains, I went for the duck with the dumplings which was superb and very tasty… My wife for the octopus which I wanted, but again thankfully the quinoa salad didn’t do it for me on tasting wife’s meal …. So pleased to order the duck.. The side dish of new potatoes wasn’t mind blowing but needed those as we felt the portion size of main was quite small… The young waitress reappeared and went through the desert menu with us, so we opted for the signature acorn cake with liquor…. That was extremely nice although the added extra liquor certainly wasn’t necessary. It was gorgeous to eat/share with the wife…. With regards to the wine list, that was extremely extensive and expensive the Sommelier came over, a young English bloke and when I saw the prices decided to go for wines by the glass had a lovely Sicilian white with the entree and New Zealand pino with duck which was quite nice… Overall it was a lovely evening and table with great food and wine to match but definitely Mayfair prices

Where should I start. There was no confirmation of our booking, which was made on the restaurant's website. We had to call on the actual day to verify. About a third of a la carte menu wasn't available even though It was actually 6pm on Friday. The wines were hugely overpriced, so we chose the cheapest red one, which was heartedly approved by our sommelier (yes, he was there at our service). However, the £35 bottle of Argentinian wine miraculously turned £150 on the bill. When asked, the sommelier said something like "I told you it was the last one", which didn't make any sense. We left bewildered, and still don't understand what actually happened. On the positive side - good view and good oysters. We also asked for a bit of caviar, which has never been delivered, so no opinion on that one.

Immaculate, delightful breakfast full of flavour and taste. We visited twice to experience it. Granola bowl was almost a field of fruit and flowers, eggs perfectly poached on avocado or muffins, bread and muffins excellent char on the outside and soft warm centres. Service was superb, and they obviously remembered us on the second day with a warm welcome. Expensive, worth it, and cheaper than most of the park lane hotels down the road... Espresso £7, Tea from £5, most breakfast mains between £15 to £25.

My daughter treated me to lunch in this restaurant and it was a wonderful experience. From the moment we entered the restaurant, the service from all the staff was very welcoming and attentive. We had a lovely table upstairs with a view over Green Park. We had a taster menu and every course was delicious accompanied by an extensive and excellent wine list. Overall a great experience and I will definitely visit this restaurant next time I am in London.

I am disappointed in the Michelin guide staff for giving this restaurant a star. This restaurant was one of the most disappointing meals from a quality and service perspective in a long time. I hope that this review helps the restaurant improve, given that staff was not receptive to constructive feedback during the meal. Here are a few details to expound on my experience: - A 190 pound 7 course meal should be exceptional. Our fish course was over cooked. The fish was wrapped in garlic leaf and cooked so long that the texture had become stringy. The staff did not offer to remediate and merely removed my plate from the table. My friend with me did not dare to complain but I thought it only appropriate to provide feedback on the dish. - Additional 15 pound meat dish was unacceptable. The meat was chewy and full of tissue. This must have just been a bad cut. However, the manager on staff said that the meat was not "American meat" and suggested my expectations were misaligned with the dish and what Europe had to offer. This is inappropriate and presumptuous as I am not even American. He said it as if I didn't know what good meat tasted like. FYI I live in France and understand exactly what the best, fresh cuts of meat taste like. The chefs should be tasting meals before plating to ensure that the dish is what they had expected to create. This was not it. What I am most upset about is the way the staff reacted to feedback. They did not remediate anything appropriately, discredited feedback and still left with a 570 pound bill (320 for the meal) This is absolutely absurd considering that we didn't even eat our main courses. For the chef Josh Angus, I hope this note is helpful as you strive to improve your establishment and the culture on your team at the restaurant. There is a lot of work do to and I hope you take this message as a catalyst for change.

Above Hide is an expensive foodie wonderland, not for everyone. After we were seated, I was a bit worried as the mass amount of staff seemed too busy. As our meal unfolded, I can report that it was a perfectly choreographed ballet of great service. We never saw any service staff just standing and BSing. There were always concentrating on each table and providing excellent service. The food is a foodie love experience! Each dish came to our table, perfectly hot or cold based on the dish. Every fish was an artful presentation, and tasted even better. This is a very expensive outing, especially if you add a wine pairing to the 5 or 7 course meal. The sommelier did a great job, explaining each wine and spending the necessary time at each table. If the service had been slowed just a bit, this would easily be in a greater Michelin category. There is a restaurant located on the main floor where ala carte is available. One of the high points of our great dining experiences in London.

My son bought me here for my 60th Birthday treat, we were seated at the back of the first floor restaurant so we could have been anywhere, my son sat facing a blank wall, my thoughts are they could turn the table so both people can look into the room. was disappointed where we were seated but do appreciate not everyone can have a view of the park. We had the 7 Course tasting menu, I have to say most of the food was wonderful however when we got onto desserts a lot of staff were not available and I had to point out we had not had the macaron, I only remembered it was on the menu as I was soo looking forward to it. The bill was over £500 for 2 of us for the 7 course menu bottle of champagne and 2 small bottles of beer, it was lovely but as we had a rubbish outlook not sure it was worth it, however I will go again and try the set lunch,

Went to "Above" for lunch a few weeks ago. Had the Set Lunch and luckily my fiancee and I chose varying selections for our choices so we were able to taste everything. Overall it was very good, but not great. The room is stunning. The food is very very good. The service was just OK. Granted it was a lunch shift, but there was a total lack of passion or joy. There were a few too many blank stare responses not to mention anything. And this wasn't just one server, it felt like the general mood. And it detracted from the experience. Now the food: The starter/canapés were tasty but a bit unfocused and clunky. The pea tartlet was good, but I've seen this dish a few times all over London. It was a good version, but not the best. The white asparagus custard was a star. Asparagus multiple different ways all cooked perfectly. A wonderful broken sauce. Pops of garlic, hazelnut and parmesan. The Sole dish was good but not great. It was light and subtle. Very delicate. The sole felt a bit overcooked and ultimately it ate a little under seasoned and underwhelming. The Ribeye was excellent. The only real knock on this dish is the dollop of onion puree in the middle of the plate ate very very sweet and probably could have been used in more moderation. You did not want to keep going back to it. The peach tart was great, but the crème fraiche ice cream stole the show for this dessert. The cheeses were great. You got to go to the trolley to make selections and the server was actually very helpful at this task. - Side note (and yes this is silly) but they have everything on trolleys, which I love. There's a champagne trolley, a cheese trolley, a whiskey trolley, there might have been more... but the trolleys never moved. Why put this stuff on wheels if you have to walk over to it to make your selection? Ha) Anyway, It was a tasty lunch with a few flaws and passable service in a beautiful room.

After a busy weekend working in London I had the £120 5 course tasting menu. Seated with a glorious view of green park I was given superb food. Not a foot wrong at any time. The donut parfait is one of the best desserts ive ever had. Service was friendly and efficient. Wine is very expensive as you might expect. A short list by the glass. Planning ahead they will obtain any bottle from the huge Hedonism shop with a reasonable corkage. I plan to return and will take that option. I loved the music. 80s and 90s alt pop including the Cure, Siouxsie and the Banshees and even the Fall!

We visited for my wife’s birthday. Our entire evening was truly amazing. Incredible, inventive menu. So many subtle ideas all blended to make a ‘once in a lifetime’ experience. From the excellent staff to the uniquely designed staircase & tables. Each table had it’s own drawer with phone charger & space for the menu. There were even little hammocks on which to rest your hand bag off the ground. Notable highlights were the signature ‘egg’ & the fig desert. Different cutlery was used for each course, specifically chosen for its mouthfeel. The wine matches were novel & equally interesting. They had a pleasure ensuring each dish was suitable for a gluten free diet, with minimal changes. Their gluten free bread was also exceptional. Highly recommended for anyone looking for an experience rather than just a meal.

Hard to criticise a Michelin-starred restaurant, but this one wasn't quite good enough. 1. We didn't have a waiter - we had a variety. Hard to know whose eye to catch. Therefore we lacked any connection to the restaurant. Weird really. (The waiters' descriptions of what we were eating was sometimes hard to understand too. They spoke too quietly.) 2. Charming sommelier. Solicitous & helpful. 3. All the dishes are, in some way, hidden. Nice idea. Lifts the interest. 4. Amuse bouches excellent. I particularly liked the Gem lettuce sprinkled w dried seaweed. Bread excellent too. 5. First starter was a celeriac pouch with avocado. V fresh, but otherwise lacking in content. Lacked flavour. 6. Slices of black truffle covering swede in "warm hay buttermilk" (a cheese sauce) didn't quite work either. The truffle was completely lost in the (excellent) flavours of the swede and sauce. 7. An extra £24 for nothing-special Wagyu beef instead of the excellent pigeon was a waste of money. 8. Scallops, nest egg, lobster, turbot, lime sorbet and fig pudding all v good as were the plum tart and tiny liquorice baked Alaska. Restaurant itself is excellent and the staircase is superb - a work of art. It deserves its 1 star. But I'm not inclined to go again.

It was our 3rd visit to the restaurant and probably the last one. Despite the good service and excellent wine, the dinner was waste of time and money. Food was very mediocre, not to michellin star level. The wagyu beef portion was too fat and had too many tissues, and for the price it was a rip off. Turbot was too dry, tomato was tastleless. Totally dissapointed.

I went to Above at HIDE with a friend. I have to say the food was good and the service friendly which is how they pulled back from a one star review. My issue with the restaurant purely comes down to policy. All members of the party must order off the same menu. It was explained by the manager that anything else would be too complicated (however one person can add additional courses which seems to defeat the complication argument). I had initially anticipated having the 8 course menu and my friend preferred the set lunch menu. We went for the set lunch menu. This resulted in the restaurant losing approximately £100 instantly, clearly they are principled people. How does this make any sense? I guess they were hoping I would force my friend to eat 8 courses he didn’t want. Hospitality has been taken out of the service concept here. Hospitality is about making the guest feel welcome and attending to their needs. This feels more like theatre, you pay the entrance fee and you either enjoy the show or not. In this case unfortunately it ends up being a not and never again for me.

Huzzah.

It doesn't look much from the outside but it's value all the way when you are in! I don't know what he'll do when the station is finished, there's a constant stream of blokes from there. Banging breakfast and excellent value, just what you want when you see what most hotels offer these days. Spot on caff.
