So 1st and last time visitor ! Was recommended to me so made a trip for lunch. Ordered soup which both came luke warm so requested that they be warmed up to eating temperature. Take 2 on return one was slightly warmer the other still luke warm. As am not one for take 3 spoke with staff to ask if I could pay as decided to go elsewhere, no charge (not eaten) but the soup "apparently" take a while to heat !! Offered to heat "again" but thought after 2 attempts, not. It should be good to go from the off otherwise why serve cool soup. A less than satisfactory experience and to be honest not a great ambiance, my wife thought seating was uncomfortable. Sorry but that's how we found the place 😐

Came across this place by chance. In the area on business and voiced Alexa for a cafe and quick as a flash it came back with this only 200yrds away. It was an omen. It was busy on arrival but I was quickly shown to a table close to the counter. Good atmosphere about the place and the staff were friendly. As it had to be a quick stop off, I just ordered a coffee and a toastie from the very tempting menu. It was soon on the table and I had to say it was one of the best I’ve ever had. It came accompanied by a nice fresh salad and nachos. The coleslaw looked homemade and was delicious. Topped off with a very nice large flat white coffee, it was a perfect lunch on the go. I was eyeing the cake and afternoon teas others were having. Slightly off the beaten track, but I’ll certainly be back and hope have more time to sample the rest of the menu. Great food, great staff and definitely recommended!

There was clearly a bit of money spent on this barn conversion to turn it into a modern café/tea room however that doesn’t extend to the signage. That was possibly a planning restriction, but to clarify, it is located rurally about 3 miles south of Forth, not far from the Harelaw roundabout on the A706 route to Lanark. Look out for the subtle “tea room” sign on the left side of the road coming from Forth at Muirfoot Farm. There is car parking at the site. The interior is split on two levels but remember if you go upstairs for the balcony view your server will be doing the same and it is an added trek for them and your order! We had a table at the foot of the stairs so had no such issues. The menu is a little different and includes soups, sandwiches, paninis, salads and a few other dishes, all with a twist, in addition to a plentiful choice of cakes. We ordered a Chicken Salad (£9.95) and their Cheese Burger (£8.95) along with an Americano coffee (£2.50 and a Flat White coffee (£2.95). The salad was probably the largest I have ever had and whilst it as tasty it took quite a while to finish. My wife’s burger was topped with bacon and came along with coleslaw, crisps and a salad garnish all of which she enjoyed. The coffee was good so my wife had another cup and I had some tea (£2) along with slices of Aero Chocolate cake and a Strawberry sponge cake - delicious! Overall our bill was just over £37 which we considered reasonable value for the quality of products. Service was friendly and although it took a little while for the food to arrive we were not in a hurry and enjoyed the comfortable surroundings and ambiance. The gents toilet was cold and quirky and thankfully I only had to wash my hands in a bucket. Worth a visit if you live in the area or are passing through - only open for breakfast and lunch until around 4pm so check before traveling.

Absolutely first class in all respects. From previous reviews expected a good lunch and was not disappointed. Some previous comments complained about prices but I had no complaints. Good atmosphere on entering. Cosy and staff very quick to offer a table despite being busy. Menu good and a number of specials offered. I had the bacon stack with waffles and syrup. Portion huge and I was glad I only had a cup of soup to start ( as recommended by Heather our waitress ). My wife had a special wrap with bacon, cranberry and brie. Again large portion with a salad and vegetable crisps. an excellent pot of tea completed the meal. Overall this came to just over £20 which I felt was very good value although I am aware that some people would still find this expensive. However for the quality and quantity I was more than happy. Final word re staff --all seemed young and enthusiastic. Heather was very pleasant and I'll wish her all the best for her career in jounalism

It's a classic out of sight out of mind story but we drive past a couple of times a month and say we should have/must try this place. So we booked a table to make sure we did and must say we were glad to have done so. Yes the location is a wee bit out of the way but it is a really nice place and as others have said the decor is different and a great mix of modern and rustic. We were seated immediately but twenty minutes later I had to approach the counter to ask if we should order at the counter or the table"Be there in a minute" was the response. We ordered a good variety of dishes and drinks and everyone enjoyed their food which was very well prepared and presented. On the down side the place was pretty cold.Patrons had jackets and hats on and this made our visit less enjoyable than we would have hoped. That said we will return sensible prices and good quality will win us over. Just a few tweaks would make it perfect.

The down side I couldn't see anyone in the food preparation area or serving staff with their hair converd. Let's he honest even McDonnallds staff wear hear covering. Also while I respect everyone has the right to have tattoos it can be a bit off putting one of the girls has, in my opinion, over done it. So come on manager hair coverd on all staff and perhaps long sleeves to cover up the tattoos.

First and foremost, they need to fix their habit of leaving baked cakes out on display exposed to everybody. The cakes are not wrapped, nor covered, not even in a cake tin or case or behind a glassed fridge (like most places). The cakes are exposed on the table surface and me and my mum watched as children sneezed on them, touched them, people had their hair flick on them, waitresses reaching over them, handling money at the register and straight after lifting cakes with their hands to be plated up. It was wrong. Unhygienic and off putting. The cakes looked wonderful, but it's no wonder nobody was buying them if they're exposed like that. The sponge would eventually go hard throughout the day due to lack of preservation. Second of all, the service was extremely slow despite the cafe being flooded with young waitresses all clustered around the kitchen. The simple menu has a very basic choice of breakfast and lunch meals. Most dishes would not take longer than 10 minutes to prepare. We ordered soup and sandwhiches, which took over 30 minutes to be served to our table. The place was busy, I consider that, however the establishment was well equipped with staff to make the show run smoothly... This place needs management. I did not see any authorative figure. Just young girls. If more management was involved, the cafe would run smoothly, and customers would leave more satisfied. For such a basic menu it can't take 30 minutes to prepare some soup and sandwhiches and serve with the soup being lukewarm. Not a great experience. Won't be coming back again. It's a shame because the place has potential. Aesthetically pleasing, well designed, authentic building and decor.. but service and food let it down.

Our second visit here, the first being with a group of friends for afternoon tea. This had an unusual twist of having soup, quiche & pate along with the sandwiches, scones & cakes. We enjoyed, so decided to go for a regular lunch. The lunch its self was decent, although the bread wasn't toasted so the topping made it soggy. We had coffee & cake after, which was a disappointment. Coffee was nothing special, served in tiny cups with tiny handles that just burn your finger when trying to drink. The cake - chocolate bounty, I assumed would be coconut. Well it wasn't. & so bland, the only thing I tasted was the butter in the frosting. The chocolate on top was a cheap bland Turkish delight! No idea why they called it chocolate bounty when there was barely a taste of chocolate. The other cake was more true to its name, vanilla & lemon sponge. Both, however, were dry. When we said that to the staff they blamed the humidity, our suggestion that they are left sitting out uncovered might be the reason was ignored.Seats are small & hard, decor is lovely, as are the surroundings. Staff pleasant. So for us, just an average place, which we have plenty of around us, so not worth the jaunt out.

So disappointed ... arrived at Hickety Pickety today, the car park was busy however I had no problem getting parked as all of the disabled spaces were free. I was taking my 95 year old grandmother for lunch with my mum and daughter. After getting her out of the car and into the establishment to be greeted by a member of staff who told us there was not a table available downstairs !!!! although there was one free but possibly booked and a table for two which could be turned into a four if they had tried to be helpful. She then asked if we could go upstairs which was not possible for my grandmother. We were happy to wait for a table but the staff were not that helpful in giving us an estimate. We did wait outside the door and asked for one chair for my grandmother to sit on and we were told no. The door was then shut on us by one of the members of staff. Disabled friendly definitely not.

The kids menu was small but perfect and reasonably priced. Not too much choice for low carb me but my chicken salad was the best I’ve tried in years (and I’m a big chicken salad eater!). Other plates I saw looked delicious. Love the servers uniforms of stripes and denim aprons. It was just a lovely place to be. Love the ambience and decor. This is a very different resturaunt, the food is very quirky and delicious, plenty of Variety. The Decor is Beautiful, hard to believe this was once a barn belonging to the farm

Nice setting and tastefully decorated. Milkshakes when they turn up are beautiful - sadly they take too long to get to your table and if others with you are not having one - their drinks have been long before yours arrives. Food menu is a bit limited and when it comes is presented well not blown away by it. Home baking is lovely but once the item is sold out they don’t have a replacement??? Very bizarre Ie: your cake!

Lovely soup, great service - will be back. They also have a lovely set tea but this needs to be ordered in advance.

This is the second time we have visited. Love the decor and setting however very expensive for a limited menu which is made up of very simple produce. Both occasions had soup. Both occasions both myself and family member had to return them to be re-heated. Bread was dry and stale and broke up on attempting to spread. Definitely not same day produce and didn’t appear homemade. Inexperience table servers with no floor support. Unable to remove jackets as place was cold inside. Two soups, two coffees and two slices of mediocre tray bake, just short of £20... Thought we would try it again as it’s a great location for meeting friends and family bit disappointed for a second time. Just too expensive for what you are getting.

Small bistro café which offers soups and light meals, fresh ingredients and served by half a dozen youngsters. Fairly popular for families, wait to be seated and asked if we'd made a reservation, fruit juices, teas and coffees but no beers or wines. Waffles and hot dogs style of place and I assume fresh eggs available from farm, separate toilets which were clean but priced at restuarant level and above café prices.

Beautifully renovated barn with comfortable seating and mezzanine area, warm and cosy with a large stove. Young and enthusiastic staff, very friendly and helpful. Lovely healthy food options at a reasonable price, and all in a beautiful country setting. Will definitely return!

Having been recommended by a friend and having read the reviews we made a special journey from Livingston for a snack lunch. The premises seemed to be recently renovated to a high standard and the menu indicated that they 'majored' in soup, salads and particularly a wide range of sandwiches. For those with a sweeter tooth or perhaps visiting in later afternoon there was an impressive selection of sponge cakes and tray bakes. Between us my wife and I sampled the soup, a smoked salmon sandwich, a burger and a slice of lemon sponge. The soup was hot and tasty, the sandwich and the burger were of a good quality and both accompanied by fresh salad and coleslaw and the sponge went down a treat with latte coffee. The staff was friendly, smart and attentive.Having said all that, will we return? Unfortunately the answer is negative only, and I repeat only, because the seating was uncomfortable for those with back problems although it did look the part in its surrounds. This criticism might only be appropriate for a few people but those with, say, osteoporosis might wish to take note.

Having been recommended by a neighbour,we visited on a what we thought would be a quiet mid week visit, how wrong we were, the secret was out. Although there was still room for our visit.A very tasteful and imaginative conversion from farm buildings to tea rooms. The coffee and cake were very nice and not too expensiveWell worth a visit

Just visited here today, what a lovely place. Farm feel country cafe which was very spacious with lovely quirky bits n bobs, loved the decor too. Not too busy when we went in and had to wait to be seated for longer than necessary! Nice selection to choose from on the menu. Opted for coffee hit chocolate and cake, I had pineapple and lime and coconut cake which I was slightly disappointed with as I could not taste any of these flavours only tasted of a fruit loaf, which tasted like a good fruit loaf. Just passers by so probably wouldn't be back anytime soon. Nice concept tho and slightly overpriced for what you get.

Excellent service, all staff where friendly and approachable. Food was lovely, well apart from the home made vegetable crisps !! but this would certainly not put us off. Lovely atmosphere, lovely décor, spotlessly clean.

What is going on here one soup Luke warm with added plastic included ! Crisps out of a packet salad out of a packet etc i was so disappointed it’s a lovely building no cooking involved at all the bread etc is not home made it is a shame I can heat up soup it’s not fresh they have not even made there own bread and why is there not even a baked potato it’s really a lovely setting food nothing you like what i/you would expect I am allergic to corn I asked as I really struggled to find one I could eat the Spanish quiche it was described as ( ie we really don’t have a clue ) it had sweet corn in it and I paid for that I can assure you definitely quiche now . Not good apart from the service and surroundings there is no cooking involved at all lazy need up there game .

We enjoyed a lunch of sandwiches nicely presented with side salad and vegetable chips. The young waiting staff were polite but service was slow and working systems seemed to be lacking. Sitting upstairs we were able to observe lots of to-ing and fro-ing behind the counter but food was not being brought out promptly to the tables. After waiting at least 15 minutes we asked a waiter if our lunch was coming soon. He went to check - and came back with it almost immediately. Our lunch had been sitting on the counter for quite some time - just as well we hadn't ordered a hot dish!

Second visit here & was another amazing meal. We had the fish & chips, ‘boring’ burger & chips, maple & garlic siracha chicken gyros & southern poutine loaded fries. Everything was cooked well, tasted amazing, well presented & we didn’t wait long for food to arrive. Service was excellent, waitresses are lovely. Didn’t have any alcohol this time but cocktail menu looks amazing! Restaurant is really well decorated with lots of unique features & there was a great, buzzing atmosphere. Forgot to get photos of the food, was too excited to eat it!
