We asked for whole meal bread, they provided 50/50 whole meal and white bread. Not what we wanted at all; however, it was fantastic. If you want unhealthy white bread, this is the place for you! If you want real, healthy bread, I would not recommend this place. I will be buying my bread from somewhere else.

I would just like to say, I ordered some sandwich and sausage roll platters for a pre horse racing get together with friends before the races like I have previously. Everybody that ate this food complimented how fresh and tasty everything was. I would expect one or two to pass comment but not everybody that attended. I thought I would share this, as a great credit to you.

I frequently buy their breakfast roles and rock cakes, I also buy loafs of bread. Always good quality and friendly staff. Great that they open at 5.00am in the morning, just like a traditional Baker.

After reading the reviews we called at this bakery to pick up some lunch on the way to Loughborough. The so called "Cornish" pasties were nothing like traditional ones and even had carrots in them. The bag of cheese straws was completely stale and tasteless. They went straight in the bin. Will never go here again when in the area. Rubbish

This is a first class bakery with great bread & cakes and more speciality breads offered on a Saturday. I'm also a fan of their lovely handmade sandwiches and the friendly staff who can't do enough for you.

Dropped in yesterday morning on the off chance of a brekkie. A very clean and tidy establishment, run by friendly people. We had a full English, with granary toast and coffee. 10/10. And for reasonable money too. I've recommended this place to my work mates already.

Hetheringtons is a marvellous, old-fashioned bakers where you can sit at the back, or outside on a sunny day, & take tea. Although not the biggest lover of cakes, theirs area beautiful. The bread is fresh & the smell heavenly, but their homemade quiche wedges are the absolute tops!

We visit Hethertons every Christmas Eve as a family tradition to Newbury. last year we were very disappointed with the service as it took 45 minutes for our breakfast to be brought to the table, so we thought we would give it one more go. On entering the cafe we noticed there must be new owners, there were only 2 other people in the cafe so we thought this would be quick service. Our order was taken promptly, our drinks came out quickly then our toast followed but the breakfast came out 20 minutes later which meant if we hadn't eat our toast it would have gone cold. The waitress came out with our breakfasts stating the plates were very hot, as my son touched the plate he said it was cold also the beans were cold we approached the waitress who did apologise and took them away to warm up. We paid the full amount for our breakfast, yet another year disappointed, off to camps next year for our yearly pilgrim to Newbury

We went there on the morning of the Hennessy and thought it was fantastic for breakfast. Really good quality sausages and bacon, well cooked eggs, with beans and toast. Icing on the cake for me was a proper pot of tea which made three cups. My brother said the coffee was really good too and wanted another to take away. The service was friendly and you felt the owners took a pride in what they do. The pastries and cakes looked good too. Next time I visit Newbury I will definitely try and have a meal there.

We often have breakfast or lunch at Hethertons at the weekends, small coffee shop tucked away at the top of town as a rule the food is quite average, but it seems they have a new chef and the food has gone from average to very good. Good service good food at reasonable prices.

Arrived ahead of an appointment at this favourite coffee shop and had time for a delicious bacon butty with a steaming mug of coffee and as ever greeted by smiling happy staff who brought these goodies. Snagged the comfy armchairs by the door and this is the perfect place to watch Newbury go by and hear the cheerful banter of those who venture into Kings Coffee House - and nice to think that many many moons ago someone probably sat in the same spot drinking what passed for coffee as horses and their carriages clattered past. Hetherton's has soul amid the generic coffee shops that litter

Went for a light lunch with my wife and had the sausage ploughmans. Lovely crusty bloomer, good fresh salad, big chunk of local cheddar and 3 big beautiful bangers from a local butchers. My wife had the club sandwich which came with a proper side salad not just a garnish and was equally good value. Yes the waitresses could learn to smile a bit more but they are helpful and efficient so it justs add to the character of the place. Highly recommended.

We visited this coffee shop as we wanted a Breakfast .We opted to have the Kings breakfast which as we saw the price 6.95 we thought would be a breakfast fit for a king .... Well to our disappointment it was not fit for anyone, Cold, so small it was not worth 3.95 . Eggs were overcooked so sent the whole breakfast back only to get the same breakfast back with the same hard poached eggs!! The tea was tasteless very cheap teabags im sure and the toast was burnt !!We were told they have a new manager hence the new menu ( which has been overpriced) but maybe the owners should actually take on a manager that can cook and not just raise the prices of their menu and not give customers value for their money!!We shall not be returning to this coffee shop as it is overpriced and trying to be something its not.

We dropped into Hethertons for a bite to eat on Saturday afternoon after a spot of shopping in Newbury. We like to visit as it's not one of the mega chains, which now seem to dominate Newbury's Northbrook Street. Our visit was very pleasant - Hethertons offers a good selection of hot/cold drinks, hot food, sandwiches (on various types of bread), plus grog of various descriptions if you fancy something stronger than hot chocolate. There is also a very good selection of cakes. Most of the pasty/sausage roll types of choices are made by the cafe, as are (I believe) a lot of the cakes. Our choice of sandwiches and hot drinks were very nice. Service was a little slow, but pleasant. One little gripe was that we asked for a sausage roll as part of our order - the waitress was not sure if there were any left and said she would check. However, she never reappeared to let us know whether we were going to have a pastry experience or not (not as it turned out).Aside from the little niggle above, we'll keep going back to Hethertons as the quality of food is good, service is generally o.k. and it is a local business rather than one of the large faceless chains that now tend to dominate our High Streets.

I like to support this friendly bakery so decided to drop in with a friend for brunch. The waitress was helpful and brought a sample of a new spelt loaf for us to try (delicious), whilst we looked at the menu. We asked for bacon rolls but were told they only did bacon sandwiches so we both asked for wholemeal bread. We'd almost finished our drinks by the time the (burnt) bacon sandwiches arrived - very disappointing! There was plenty of bacon but the bread was dry and for once in my life I left the crusts and only ate half of the sandwich. I asked to take the rest home because I was embarrassed to leave it - the birds enjoyed it but even they left the burnt edges... I felt like asking to talk to the person making the sandwiches to explain that if you're having a bacon buttie it should have some of the bacon fat or lashings of butter spread on the bread and why not offer a roll - that's what they make and sell.... This is a busy little cafe with friendly, helpful staff but I'm not rushing back there!

A quick working lunch was what I wanted and although almost all the tables were occupied, I was found a table for two very quickly. Within minutes a waitress came over asked if I would like a drink whilst I reviewed the menu. Ordered a coffee and it was delivered very quick. I placed a simple order of a tuna sandwich for which I was asked if I would like it plain, with sweetcorn and/or with mayo. Although the waitress was taking care of all the tables she did not rush me, being polite and attentive. My order was with me within minutes and FRESHLY made!!My visit was unhurried and I left with time to spare for my meeting. Overall a very pleasant experience, I will certainly revisit.

Been there for breakfast and lunch and each time I go there (friend's suggestion), the food sucks, so basic that it lacks flavor. The worst part was the service is terrible! The waitress are extremely rude and hold a long face as if they don't want to be there.Very unfriendly but the worst part was they work sooo slow. Dont be fooled by this small bakery thinking it will be a fast takeout, a Jack Potato alone tookd them 15 minutes for my order and was not worth the money. Waste of my time!

We use Hethertons mainly on a Saturday Morning for an English Breakfast or mainly for coffee and cake. we like the quality ,prices ,friendliness and above all the Waitress service which is excellent ,as too many chains and other coffee houses make you queue up before you find a seat and to me that spoils the ambience and treat out .Well done Hethertons you deserve the five stars without any hesitation.
