Great atmosphere, good service and good food, what more could any Mum want? It was all delightful and I thoroughly enjoyed being pampered and enjoying such a good lunch.

Enjoyed hearty full English breakfasts here on our two night stay - really excellent with good local produce. Dinners on both nights were absolutely superb and the chef was able to tailor a couple of the dishes to meet our requirements. We were really impressed and felt that the menu offered good value considering the high quality of the dishes served.

I was going to be in Stonehouse overnight so I tried to find a great restaurant with hotel attached (so I could drink wine and not need to drive!). When I travel on my own I have the luxury of really paying attention to the meal and surroundings. This turned out to be a spectacular combination of dinner and hotel. The hotel is lovely (be sure to book in the main building, the rooms are much nicer) and the restaurant is a real gem. My server was very knowledgeable about the menu and wine list. I had the local pork terrine appetizer which was served with picalilli, slices of a very earthy, nutty bread, and baby apples. The terrine was absolutely divine in its simplicity. As if I hadn't been impressed enough, the roasted duck breast was cooked to perfection and the accompanying cabbage and potato purée were equally good. They had a very nice Pinot noir on the wine list that went so well with my meal...I almost didn't want to leave! Luckily the room includes breakfast, so was able to come back for an excellent cooked breakfast a few hours later. If you are anywhere near Stonehouse, this is definitely worth a visit.

I was staying here at the hotel on business and didn't fancy going out to eat. Unusually I didn't read the reviews before coming and glad I didn't as most are terrible. I eat out and review a lot and always try to be very honest. On this occasion I can say that the pollack with vegetables and chorizo with a delicious cream and white wine sauce, is one of the nicest dishes I have ever eaten. Everything was cooked to perfection, well seasoned and piping hot (this is a biggie for me, I get really fed up luke warm food). Only criticism, would have liked a little more chorizo but the chef is forgiven as the rest was so fab. After this I decided to try the cheesecake. It wasn't the best I've ever had but nice and the raspberry sorbet and coulis, along with a very good glass of Rioja, made it yummy. Is this place s little dated in deco for some, maybe, but honestly, I would definitely eat here again. Service from a team of young ladies was also very good, discreet and pro.

We were visiting my parents, who live locally, and wanted to take them out for a treat. I phoned ahead and booked an afternoon tea for four. I had thought that the rather steep price tag of £15.00 per head should surely indicate a certain quality of experience - well, was I wrong! When we arrived we were asked to take a seat in a rather busy reception area. We sat on a couch and a couple of high backed chairs in between the reception desk and the main entrance. Ten minutes later a young lady brought out some plates and paper napkins. It was at the point that I asked if we were to be shown to our table. She seemed confused and said that she was going to serve tea where we were sitting (in our coats). When I said that wasn't acceptable (my parents are in their eighties and need a table to sit around) we were shown to the restaurant. Well. It was dirty, with food under the tables, cutlery on the floor and cobwebs everywhere. The table had no linen and was marked. A young girl hurriedly put crockery on the table and then two tiered cake stands arrived. I asked for the tea menu and was asked what I meant! We were then told there was tea or coffee. Having ordered tea a large pot with tea bag labels hanging out arrived. It wasn't enough to pour four cups of tea and yet I was greeted with surprise when I asked for another pot. We had to ask for milk and sugar which wasn't provided. The sandwiches were acceptable but bland and uninspired (think vacuum packed). The scones were the only part of the serving that were nice, but they were small and only came with one small pot of cream and jam between two people. The cakes were very poor, one small square of what appeared to be shop bought ginger cake, a thin slice of lemon tart (not usually served as a cake?) and a small square of white jelly like substance that none of us could identify. There were no napkins only cheap paper serviettes which even the cakes were sitting on and cheap white commercial crockery. No cake forks. Nothing of any class at all. At £15.00 per head I felt completely ripped off. I have eaten afternoon teas all over the UK and the world and this was one of the worst examples of value for money anywhere. We couldn't even find a member of staff to pay and when I complained the poor lad (who we hadn't seen before) said he felt bad but charged us full price anyway. The hotel looks like it's geared up for offering cheap wedding deals and nothing else. AVOID. I am sure there must be much nicer places to eat than this.

The food was overpriced and minimal which a lot left to be desired. We were taken from a nice welcoming bar through the nice welcoming reception through the wood panelled log fired restaurant to sit in a conference room. With a drafty window. We should have stayed in the bar and ordered off of the bar menu, the food looked much better and was around half the price. We have just got home with a bag of chips from the local take away as we all left hungry. At £20 a main we expected a lot better quality. Don't get me wrong, if the food was top quality produce and a lot of work had gone into it I wouldn't expect to be having a plateful, but it just wasn't. We won't be visiting again. 2 stars as waiting staff were attentive and polite. Otherwise would have just been the one star.

The Stonehouse court restaurant was very nicely laid out, with a pretty setting. The staff were friendly and attentive without hurrying us along. The food was excellent. I had roasted vegetable Mille feuille and my husband had the beef. Both were fabulous. I've not had such good food in a long time! I think the restaurant depends on you. If you are used to the best in fine dining, then yes...it is a disappointment. But if, like us, you are used to the local pubs and are looking for somewhere a bit more upmarket as a treat, then this restaurant will not disappoint. My only criticism is it was about £10 too expensive. But I'm being picky!! It was my first visit there, and it won't be my last.

We went into the bar first to order a pre-meal drink, the cider on tap was off and the only alternative was a 'raspberry' cider (not to everyone's taste). Really there should have been a 'non-flavoured' version on offer. We sat outside on the terrace which in itself was lovely, however as we didn't want to sit on one of the larger tables for 8 so we opted for a two seater with a low table which had a terracotta pot filled to the brim with cigarette butts. It looked like it hadn't been emptied for days! We waited for someone to come out to show us to our table at the allotted time but no one came so we went inside. We were shown to our table and our order was taken quickly (we had already been given menus outside) which was a plus point. However, the white wine we had chosen was not available 'chilled' (which we were told about 10 minutes after sitting down) so we were offered an alternative but we decided to re-look at the wine list. We chose quickly but it then took another 10-15 minutes for someone to take that order which happened to be the unassuming waiter offering us water. After 30 minutes we had just about got our drinks and a bread roll. My starter of scollops was over cooked (with 3 completely different sized and shaped scollops) and my husband's pastry was very very chewy. The main course again my fish was overcooked and chewy. My husbands main course on paper sounded really nice 'truffle stuffed chicken with a truffle sauce and fettucini' but there were only a few drops of sauce, a large mass of fettucini and a few slices of carrots and green beans. No one came to top up our champagne or water glasses throughout the meal. We then both sat in the restaurant thinking it was a hot day (and there were tea lights in the restaurant) but it seems very very hot in here. I was sat within arms reach of a radiator directly behind me. My husband half jokingly said I bet that radiator was on and sure enough it was belting out heat at full strength. I was too hot for dessert so exited to the reception lounge area whilst my husband settled the bill. The excuse regarding the radiator was that is was 'old and they couldn't switch it off'. Surely either get a replacement radiator, thermostat or at the very least do not sit your guests directly in front of it! The restaurant staff need better training given the hotel's provenance. Overall it is a real shame the restaurant doesn't deliver, it was my third visit having not been impressed with the service and underwhelmed by the food previously but thought I'd give it another chance. The building is fantastic as is the setting but the restaurant has no identity (apart from the menus), no atmosphere, not great service or food. If they gave the restaurant a real identity and focused on getting the basics right they would have a thriving asset that not only the hotels customers can enjoy but the wider 'restaurant going' community. To be fair to the Maitre D he pressed the 'no gratuity' button himself knowing we had not had a good experience. I just hope this can convert to a better experience for future diners (myself not being one of them)!

I like Stonehouse Court Hotel but the service, while polite, can be unconvincing. It sometimes feels like they're not expecting guests and you kind of wonder whether your order will arrive. It always does, though, so we've overcome the sense of uncertainty now. In the summer, it's a good place to go for a coffee or lunch outside. My children enjoy running in the garden and playing in the little play area.

Came across this lovely building while out walking and so stopped for a drink. Ordered a J2O and a pint glass with half cider and half soda water which is very refreshing. Was surprised to hear the price was £6.50. I queried the lady who said that I had been charged for a full pint of cider and that this was what they did. I explained that, as a visitor from Canada, I had been travelling all across the UK and that this was the ONLY place that had not charged for just a half of cider. She insisted that she was not the only one who did this and that all staff would bill the same way. I asked what I would have been charged had I ordered a half of cider and a half of soda water and she said that would have been better but that she had to charge for the size of glass. What utter nonsense !I am returning to the UK with my partner and am looking for an old building in which to stay. For the price of half a pint of cider, Stonehouse Court has lost my business. Well done !

After all they advertise a terrace menu, on arrival we went outside to find one large table laid up and clearly pre booked. This left only a handful of very rickety chairs(one of which my friend nearly fell off of!) scattered about some sad looking tables. We ended up having to go inside and get hot. Why does a hotel with such beautiful grounds not invest in some decent furniture?

My husband and I visited Stonehouse Court on a one off, cycling from Stroud as a couple who live locally, looking for a place to eat and drink on a pleasant summer's evening. We very much enjoyed our drink sitting on the terrace and surveying the lovely garden and beautiful evening view. We chose from the bar menu, since it was cheaper and less fancy- I chose a fish pie and my husband chose a burger with chips. We waited a very long time and apologies were given from the staff, we didn't mind. But when the meal came, we were very surprised at the tiny portion sizes. My fish pie cost £10.50 and said it came with seasonal veg and mashed potatoes. Actually it was a portion of a fish pie in a ramekin with some slightly shrivelled peas and cold French beans, which I presume were not sources locally but were cooked from frozen. The food tasted good but I was left hungry. My husband's burger bun was stale and the chips also came in a ramekin- why such tiny portions? We would return for drinks only- we would not recommend eating here- mainly due to the high prices for such meagre portions. What a shame! A wonderful location which should be serving much better food.

I was staying at the Stonehouse Court Hotel for the week and decided, as you do, to dine in the restaurant. It was quite humid, so I decided to wear flip flops and as I was on my own, I decided to take my laptop for company. I was met by a small young chap who led me to my table in the corner of the restaurant. I instantly asked for a glass of ice tap water while I was handed the menu. The menu was, to say the least, rather sophisticated, considering the restaurant was attached to a 3 star hotel. The chap took my order from the set menu (3 courses for just under £30) and I reminded him of my drinks order. Finally the water turned up and I got on with a bit of work. The waiting time between courses was fine and when they did turn up, the waiter brought them over wearing white gloves! I haven't even seen that in hotel restaurants in London. I was expecting big things. For starter I had the tomarto soup which was slightly too sweet for me, but fine all the same. Then the chicken was good, well seasoned with crushed potatoes and green beans (I made sure I wasn't too adventurous). However the dark chocolate brownie dessert was a letdown. It was more of a sponge and tasted really rather cheap. All in all, it was an average dining experience. But I was happy to pay and get out. However what rounded the evening off was just before I left. The waiter decided to speak to me, commenting that my attire (flip flops) and what accompanied me (my laptop) were inappropriate for the restaurant and not to bring them again! I chuckled with bemusement back to my room. Never once was a dress code mentioned when I made reservations, nor what I could or couldn't bring into the restaurant. I have been to many hotel restaurants in flip flops and with a laptop and I have NEVER been told it was inapproprate, let alone a restaurant in the quaint town of Stonehouse!

We had been to The Stonehouse Court Hotel numerous times before for drinks and afternoon tea as we live just across the road. We saw a voucher deal for the restaurant and we decided to give it a try. To be honest we were a bit disappointed. We weren't given their main menu at a discounted rate as we thought; instead we had a different menu which only had 3 choices per course. The starters and mains were cooked and presented well and we did enjoy them. For dessert I ordered the chocolate brownie, but when it came it was a chocolate fudge cake that had obviously been bought in. It was the kind of thing you expect to get at Wetherspoons. The restaurant was nice enough, but it was quiet; only 3 other tables filled on a Saturday evening. The building itself is lovely and full of character so it is a shame that it is so quiet and therefore lacks an atmosphere.

My boyfriend brought me here for a birthday meal and I have to say it was lovely. The restaurant is in the main hotel building of the Stonehouse Court Hotel, it is very rustic and cosy inside, always what I think of as lovely places to be in the winter! We had to wait a good few minutes to be seated and there were very few people in the restaurant when we turned up at about 8.30pm. The atmosphere in the restaurant was very quiet and civil, no loud people or children so we had a really romantic meal, I started with scallops which were presented (as were the rest of my courses) beautifully, they tasted amazing and were cooked just right. My second course was the seabass, again amazing, and my dessert was the sticky toffee pudding with nutmeg icecream. I was a little disappointed with such a tiny scoop of icecream, literally about the size of a ping pong ball, it tasted amazing as well, the sticky toffee pudding was gorgeous but very rich. By the time we were done we were pretty much the only people left in the restaurant, it's a good job we didn't have coffee when asked at that point because I don't think the waiters would have wanted us there much longer so I found that a bit annoying. Overall service was really good, if a bit slow, it seemed like the staff took their time but it wasn't awful service by any stretch of the imagination. I left the restaurant feeling very satisfied with everything, would recommend it!!
