Henry’s Cafe Bar in Cardiff

All the cafes in Cardiff city centre were manic, really busy. We were shopping looking at for somewhere nice for lunch. Henry's was a haven. Fabulous food and reasonably priced. Great service, thank you Julie and a lovely atmosphere. Phew, just what we needed. Henry's will definitely be our 'go to' lunch place in the future.

Steak was awful couldn't cut it or chew it really tuff and over done,wife's Steak pie was only half filled and the pie crust was burnt and could not be cut the mash was dry and lumpy Both meals were shocking, we've been here before but won't be going back Very disappointed only good thing staff were friendly

Has got to be the worst meal ever served. Took 45 minutes to serve a pie and a ravioli. Can't complain about the Raviolli, albeit it was just edible and was what it was said to be. Well the pie, crust burnt and dried up, the meat on the inside was burnt. The vegetables were cold and the chips non existent. Asked the waiter where they were to be told they had been forgotten and he would chase them. So waiting another 15 minutes, back to the bar, waiter was serving and then said he was waiting for them. Not sure what kind of service level they normally give, but is it wrong to think having a meal with your wife, you would want to eat together? The Manager was obviously not interested as when he eventually came out he supposedly did not know the issue or had even looked at the offering and just repaid our card the meal amount, no apology, but stated if he had seen the dish before it came out he would not have served it. Anyone heard of staff training??

Friendly staff, and a nice venue. The food was really tasty and good value.

We visited very early lunchtime when there were very few customers. The food however was very good and reasonably priced. EMI served us and was very helpful.

Liked the vibe here. Food is great and the service is really warm and welcoming. I was served by Emi today and she was so nice.

Excellent food after a trip to the Bew Theatre

Had pre theatre dinner booked based largely on menu published on website very disappointed to find menu provided on the night consisted of about six choices if we'd known this in advance would have booked elsewhere

The food was reasonably priced and was cooked well. Nice clean establishment

Emi was great and very attentive! Drink were great too

A lovely place to eat. Prices are reasonable and the quality of the food is really good. The staff are always friendly, helpful and attentive. The perfect place to eat before visiting the new theatre.

Went there pre theater on Sunday 2nd March had the beef roast it was appalling the beef was so tough the roasties were frozen as was the Yorkshire pudding the veg was mediocre at best 3 of us had the meal and all said the same it was quite awful to be honest in saying that the waitress was absolutely amazing.

Not 5 stars because a beer was stale.

Popped in here for breakfast the other day....it's certainly a roomy expansive restaurant and bar area.... traditional cafe restaurant bistro vibe perhaps....large long window area giving many tables a view onto the street....a fine space.... ordered the full English breakfast....food arrived quickly....the breakfast was good and certainly a reasonable price....service was good also....Julie the server, doubling also as maitre d, was certainly friendly and helpful....on this experience I would certainly recommend

Out with friends for a meal before a show in the New Theatre opposite. We received good, prompt and friendly service from Julie. Food and drinks were delicious and was enjoyed by all in the party.

The bar makes a pleasant impression. Food - chicken wings - delicious. The downside is the work of the waiters. They rush around, but do not notice the customers, and one could wish for better skills in serving dishes.

Ceaser salad … the chicken was grey and slimy! Awful… returned . Our wonderful waitress offered me an alternative and also gave us 25% off the bill. My tummy not been the same since.. won’t be returning

We have frequented this business a few times prior to seeing shows at The New Theatre Cardiff.. Without doubt it definitely has a very open and welcoming atmosphere as you open its doors.. The staff have always been very professional and polite.. Definitely a business to visit if you too are going to a show in the Theatre nearby.. Customers of all ages were either drinking or dining here, and the atmosphere was just so wonderful.. We will definitely be returning, but we look forward to actually spending more time here and relaxing as we talk.. Yes, we could actually hear eachother speaking.. Bonus...

Food menu choice very basic. Nothing like the menu choice showing on here. The food we had was nice but not much choice

The setting is pleasant. The beer and food served were good. But it's embarrassing to sit for an hour without someone paying attention to you and wondering why you're sitting inside. The waiters are energetic, but have major shortcomings in the experience of serving and clearing glasses.

Expensive food that wasn't nice at all, small portions. Will not visit again.

Went here for a pre theatre meal with my family. Unfortunately the burgers were not available but we had the fish and chips and Hunters chicken. All very nice and hot. Emi who served us was very polite and friendly. We will definitely be returning again soon.

Booked the tipsy afternoon here on a Saturday afternoon. Great value for money in an enjoyable atmosphere. Our waitress Emi was brilliant - so friendly and attentive . Will be returning .

Walked in and followed signs for table service, following the sign advising to take a seat. Sat for ten minutes with no acknowledgement from the three staff who were serving and talking to each other.

Overpriced, Under portioned, a little worn and run down across the board unfortunately. Needs Investment

Called in for a meal while killing time waiting for our bus home. As it was quite early 16.30 there was plenty of tables to chose from. We were very well looked after by Julie. The food was very good, as usual.

Called into Henry's Cafe Bar for lunch on a shopping trip 30th December. Lisa showed us to our table and was very attentive. We had two lagers Halloumi and Chicken battered strips with chunky chips. It's convenient for the winter exhibitions and the new theatre, but I wouldn't trouble its doors again. Our waiter was lovely, but on his own, and the food was merely passible. Maybe we just picked the wrong night..

Had the Sunday lunch here. Very nice food, excellent service from Lisa. Nice wine served at the perfect temperature (Argentina Malbec).

hunters chicken was awful and dry. pork belly was under cooked. our table was reserved 12-3 but asked to leave the table at 1.30pm. Also, they forgot to take the deposit off the bill, abit cheeky, as this happened last year also which i thought was a one off, obviously not!

Lisa was a really friendly and cheerful server. A big smile on her face at all times. Very attentive. When I had previously been told by her colleague that I couldn't move to another table as I was cold, Lisa ensured I could move to another table and even went and put the heating on for me! Thank you, Lisa! 🥰 Service was good, food arrived promptly and was very tasty! 😋

Our waitress Julie was great! Couldn’t do enough for us, the steak was great!

Went last Sunday (15th) for the Sunday Roast, was very disappointed, with the meal. Had the Sirloin Beef with a side portion of Cauliflower Cheese. Mashed Potatoe microwave Cauliflower Cheese microwave Sirloin Beef was chewy and tasteless Stem Broccoli could not cut & the other vegetables. Have had meals before and have been outstanding. I should have complained but I didn't which I do regret.

Visited for dinner this evening. Great service, tasty food and reasonably priced. We had the bacon and cheeseburgers which were very tasty. Would recommend!

Visited on 14/12/24 Poor welcome made to feel like an inconvenience. Quality of the food was very poor items had to be sent back. Toast needs to be toasted not char grilled to meet the "Trade Description Act"!!! Food was cold and poorly presented. Very disappointed.

Just went in for a quick drink. A wide selection of beers wines and spirits. The bar staff were extremely helpful. We didn't eat on this visit and there was a pleasant atmosphere.

Was very interested in visiting here as haven't been before and the place looked very cosy and beautifully decorated The table was very nice and staff were friendly But, we were very disappointed to find out that there was a limited menu, labelled the theatre menu and dish choices were very limited Our friend had a very limited vegetarian menu My meal looked very interesting but lm afraid the pork belly was overcooked and not succulent at all I'm glad I had the pigs in blankets as the portion was on the small side My husband had the pie but the portion was small Average food, reduced menu, very limited choice, meeting friends on a Saturday for a Christmas day out, it was a disappointment, my husband says he won't go back in a hurry

We visited Henry's on a Tuesday evening, before attending the theatre. Two adults, two children. The food was terrible. Kids meals included overcooked chicken goujons, dehydrated beans and floppy tenderstem broccoli. The chips appeared fine. Adults both ordered small plates. Two portions of pigs in blankets - one came but t to a crisp and the other barely cooked at all. Crispy chicken which had bypassed crispy and was now a crunchy hazard to the palate. The halloumi fries and cheesy garlic bread were fine, not the best but not bad by any means. The roast potatoes and drinks were good. The service was very slow despite the place not being at all busy but the staff were nice.

Table service polite and efficient, however the food was dreadful. Dryest, chewiest hunters chicken ever and not a one off as 2 out of party of 4 had it. Other 2 meals mediocre at best. Overpriced for what it is.

Absolutely horrendous experience. Booked for 14 people and went in a week prior to update to 11 people which was done, great. Came in on the night and they refused that I had a booking. 45 minutes later cobbled a table together, service was all over the place. They gave me 1 glass of wine as an apology for a £400 bill

Waiter servicecwas excellent. However the menu was paired back with a poor selection of options . Overall poor quality expensive starters but gorgeous desert We didn't have a mains Pint of larger shandy £_.6.50

Not impressed with their service on this occasion . I know there was an international match on but we were there at a decent time and they were not flooded with people. We ordered on their app and waited . 40 mins later and no breakfast . Asked the server who said meals were taking 30 mins . So , over time with ours . When she checked she said they were just plating up the last one ! 10 mins later I went back up to the bar , she went and checked and came back and said they were doing the eggs . Different stories and time delay was not acceptable to our party so I requested a refund which they did Staff on tables were lovely but it seems they need better management with their meals .

Really impressed with the meal we had last night. Table for three, each of us had the 2 course deal and one alcoholic drink, paying <£30 each. The set menu is a little on the small side, but still more than enough choice for us. I was really impressed with the quality of the food. Considering how reasonable priced it was, it was really, really good. The service was also great. We were served by three different members of staff and they were all very pleasant. I'll definitely come back.

Very salty and unchewable gammon....chips, mushrooms and onion rings were great. They refused my 18yr old grandaughter a small glass of wine, do not accommodate visual impaired. When explained that meat was poor , unable to cut or chew waitress just said....yes gammon is salty! No tipp left

Popped into Henry's last Saturday. I was greeted with warmth and kindness! Timea was brilliant and so accommodating loved our food my partner had the steak and I had the burger! Honestly 10/10

Quiet but dignified for a Sat night

Excellent afternoon tea for a colleague's leaving do. Food fab and great service. Our waitress said she hasn't been working long, unfortunately I didn't get her name, but she was attentive but not fussy.

Six of us had lunch in Henry’s today – three courses per person and not a complaint from all 18 dishes. Food was exceptionally good and great value. We had a smashing table and our server Ella-Louise was outstanding – friendly and professional - a real asset to Henry’s! A good time was had by all, and I would thoroughly recommend the place for lunch.

We had a lovely meal at lunch time. There was a good menu to choose from. Emi and the rest of the staff were very helpful and friendly.

Despite not being that busy the staff seemed rushed off their feet and short to the point of rude with their service. We really felt as if we were inconveniencing them by asking questions, or even ordering food and drink. It may be that they were short staffed, however being busy doesn’t justify rudeness. Food was average and took a long time to be served, we were warned of this at point of ordering though, the wait I mean not the quality! There was one female member of staff who seemed especially busy that still managed to smile and be polite and professional, I hope she sticks around for Henry’s sake.

Had a recent birthday celebration here and had a lovely meal. Big thanks to all the staff.

Encountered a rude and aggressive member of serving staff, we were also short served drinks (should have complained, but we let that go being too stunned by the member of staff). Left quickly. Pretty much the worst bar in the city, we won't be stepping foot back in there.

Popped in for mid day lunch, my wife's dish wsd returned the chicken was dry and seemed days old. My steak sandwich was tough and gristly. Such a pity in it's day it was our go to place. Lovely waitress though.

Absolutely vile!! Drinks smelt as if they had just come through the sewerage!!! I would never ever return. Worst pint I’ve ever had in my life.

We arrived and found a table, nobody came over to us to give menus, I had to go over to another table to get a menu, finally a waitress appeared and give us menus and told us it’s easier if you order on the app, and just left us to it, after searching and searching for the meal I wanted I could not find it so asked the waitress to take me order, it was as if this was to much work for her, she shouted “ITS ON THE APP” so I asked please could you show me where, she walked off and came back and said it’s on the app. So I had to settle for something else. The food came out at all different times, and then we were left with our plates uncleared, nobody came over to see if we were okay or if our food was okay. We would have stayed for more drinks but the attitude on the staff and being made to feel uncomfortable we decided to go else where. Safe to say I won’t be returning any time soon.

Visited here early Saturday afternoon for a lighter meal. We were served by Lisa who was prompt in acknowledging us. The place was buzzing as it was busy. Everything was clean. Food was good - we both had tortellini. It was good but was not hot so just a star removed. I would visit again when I return to Cardiff.

Julie was the perfect host we had a tipsy afternoon tea and she was so friendly and accommodating , it made our afternoon very relaxing and enjoyable . We would highly recommend Henry’s .

We felt comfortable with the cleanliness of this place, the open space, and the menu Our server, Julie was friendly and straight forward, with a smile. The sangria spritz, rhubarb crumble, and red wine were worthwhile for a quick energy boost for the afternoon. We will come back for the rest of the meal another day!

Nice food good value for money and drinks decent value as well, 10 for a double with mixer. Julie waitress was attentive.

Useless. Saturday night - 10 people in the venue. Asked for a negroni and told they don’t do it ! Doh it’s on the menu Useless

We came here on June 13th. We were late due to a crash on the motorway and we were going to see a show at the theatre next door. Julie was amazing, found us a table, was really quick delivering out meals amd couldn't have been nicer. Excellent service and calmed us down after a stressful drive. Thank you so much Julie!!
