Henry's Bar in Thurrock

I recently dined at Sir Henry’s with a party of eight, and the experience was far from enjoyable. Five of us ordered steak, and unfortunately, three of those meals had to be sent back due to improper cooking. What came back was even worse: the steaks were completely overcooked and essentially cremated. To make matters worse, when we raised our concerns with the manager, he attempted to explain that it’s “normal” for a fillet steak to be butterflied. This felt like a poor attempt to cover up the state of my friend's meal rather than addressing the issue directly. While the waiting staff were brilliant and very understanding throughout our visit, it’s clear that the real problem lies with the kitchen. It’s disappointing when the service is good, but the food doesn’t match that standard. I can’t recommend Sir Henry’s based on this experience, and it’s unlikely I’ll return.

This is the 3rd time of visiting and we really enjoyed the ambiance of the restaurant also the food was amazing great value and lots of it.

Such a nice spot and well oiled machine for a busy restaurant. The squid was exceptional and the best I've ever eaten my only critique would be the burger was a bit bland. Service was rapid and friendly. Lovely place.

Had the most delicious Sunday roast. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Service was very prompt even though it was very busy. Will definitely go again. Definitely 5 star.

Had our wedding reception here,excellent food,and service,was up stairs in the room at the back,atmosphere was excellent,and a good choice for our reception.

Great afternoon meeting up with family for a Sunday roast on a fabulously sunny afternoon. Clearly popular as the car park was busy. Greeted on arrival and reservation was reconfirmed. We were early so sat outside in the garden. The garden area is laid out lovely with tables separated off from each other. Nice outside bar and plenty of staff offering to get drinks/clear tables. Dinner inside was good. We all enjoyed Sunday roast. Plenty of sauces and gravy and again, staff on hand checking if we needed more drinks/next course. The food itself ticked all the boxes. Lamb was delicious. Sat outside again for drinks after as weather so nice. Just a little bit of advice, don’t sit too far back if you don’t want to be near the kids playground. Sunny weather equals noisy kids. ;-) We would happily return. The big thing for us was the amount of staff they had and how professional and friendly they all were.

We live local the car park is always full, we came here a few years ago, Christmas time and wasn't impressed with the sunday lunch, however we thought we'd give it another try, again for a Sunday lunch, we had a drink in the garden which was nice, lots of people enjoying snacks etc, we went to our table which was up stairs and lovely. we ordered the roast beef, when it arrived it was awful it was so tough hard to cut through and chewy, the potatoes were hard and the vegetables were cold and if there was a dessert spoon full of them it was a lot! it wasn't good, we mentioned it to the waitress who was very nice, but it wasn't her fault, she told the kitchen who must know exactly what that beef was like yet still sent it out!

This is a venue with amazing personality but not matched by the food sadly. My siblings were satisfied with their mains, my "Wagyu" burger was extraordinarily dense. The whole main experience was just ok. All of us had dessert that included an I credibly crunchy "crumb" that was hard to eat and frankly was so crunchie it did induce a coughing spasm for me. The venue has potential, it's food needs a bit of improvement. I asked about Sunday lunch as its near to me, though wasn't aware of its existence. The staff member told me summertime Sundays can attract 1000 covers, that ought to have suggested a place to visit, but frankly if the food when a few of us were there had challenges, I can't imagine how they cope with that volume.

I had heard very good reviews about this pub and both my daughters had previously been so I was really looking forward to having this birthday lunch for my daughter. We arrived early which wasn’t a problem and we sat in the garden for drinks we were greeted by a really lovely waitress who took our order. We were seated at our table. When we ordered our starters we asked if the calamari was served separate ie no mayonnaise on it and we were told yes it came in a separate bowl however when it arrived it was coated with mayo so this was returned and a fresh one was brought to our table. Then the main courses arrived my daughter had ordered the pie with mash potatoes but when it arrived it came with chips and was told it doesn’t come with mash luckily I had the menu and showed the waitress that it did in fact come with mash. This was taken away and the correct meal was served only to find a piece of paper inside the pie we did tell the waiter who again said he would change it but we just refused as we all had our meals and my daughter didn’t want to wait again. I had the lamb shank which was average as it was Luke warm and I had pasta in my side order of vegetables and again the waitress said she would change it but again I said don’t bother. I just felt we were complaining all the time which is not how you want to feel when going out for a meal. The waiter did give my daughter a free desert but a no point did anyone say they would refund the meal which had paper inside the pie and to be honest I just wanted to pay and leave. We didn’t leave any service charge and this wasn’t a reflection on the service as the staff are very friendly it was just having to keep complaining about the food. I was so disappointed as was really looking forward to this as we had heard such rave reviews, sadly we will not be returning.

Visited here yesterday with our two grandsons, greeted and served by a lovely waitress, she was happy to chat but still kept an eye out for anyone needing to be served. Food good. Was nice to sit near the playground to keep a watch on the boys. Enjoyed our visit, would definitely return

We had a lovely lunch here yesterday, very busy but worth the wait. All staff friendly and helpful. The young lady that served our table, very polite Faye. We are coming back soon.

Lovely venue, was quite busy due to the sunshine. We sat in the garden and was told it’s table service only when we went to the bar. Ordered our first drink and it took 20 mins to arrive, we sat with empty glasses for 25 mins before anyone came to take our next order of food and drinks. Once ordered we waited a further 30 mins for our drinks, we asked 3 separate people where our order was (all 5 mins apart) all of them said they would follow up and didn’t come back. I went to the bar to chase our drinks and they said someone would bring them out, which they did. When they arrived with our drinks we asked where the food was as it had been 45 mins since ordering, they went to check, came back 10 mins later asking what we ordered….. we decided to leave and go elsewhere. Seems a nice place, but those wait times just to get a drink are ridiculous, they would make a lot more money if they had more staff.

We have been here a few times, but this week's visit was disappointing 😞. The sea bass came piled onto grey looking mash with chillies, (We specifically asked for no chillies ), and looked most unappetising. The side order of veg was a pile of cabbage with 4 round slices of carrot again disappointing as well as bland. I asked for BBQ sauce for my burger which was £15.95, and was charged £1.95 on top for the sauce, !! Overall I think my money can be spent better elsewhere I don't think I'll go here again

Have been here numerous times over the years and never ever disappointed. The best restaurant around, staff are very attentive. The food is absolutely delicious. So worth coming for a fabulous wonderful overall experience. I would like to thank the amazing Nico our fun and vibrant server who made our visit even more enjoyable and making my parents wedding anniversary so wonderfully memorable. Can’t wait to come back as you are simply the best Sir Henry’s

We had a lovely meal on Saturday night, great food and service, just slightly disappointed when our change didn't come back to us and we had to ask for it. We were always going to leave at least a 10% tip but just don't like when it's expected. Btw we did leave a decent tip in the end

Firstly, I would like to say that the food here was very good. I had the burger and it came without the things that I wanted which usually don't happen elsewhere! The other five in my party had roast and were very happy.We were on a table in the lobby, which meant a cold draught when people went in and out - both staff and customers. Not an ideal position for customers but I expect they were trying to get as many people in with social distancing rules.However, the covid awareness worried me. We were not asked to sanitise at any point and we logged in with the nhs app which was right next to the table where we were sitting but no staff whatsoever pointed this out to us and in the two hours we were there (The service was VERY slow), not one person did this and staff did not refer anyone to it.NOTE - there is still a pandemic on and cases are rising: sanitising and tracing should still be happening.The waiter with the colourful waistcoat who served us - thank you for the extra 'happy birthday' message on her dessert slate. Very thoughtful.

I don’t often bother leaving reviews but I visited Sir Henry’s today with my elderly disabled mother to meet up with some friends for Sunday lunch. Everybody there was unfailingly helpful and considerate. We ate from the specials board, everything was delicious. Definitely would recommend.

Lovely food, varied menu and great service. Always a lovely place. Had a lovely meal here. Friendly restaurant to visit will return.

Was catered to by a lovely lady named holly, we was celebrating my mums birthday and throughout the service holly was helpful and friendly. She even went above and beyond for us and hand wrote happy birthday on the plate of my mums desert. An asset to the team, it was our first time visiting and we will all be back again.Beautiful outdoor seating area for the summer days and nights. Yesterday we had a lovely family outing! We choose the location as it is local to our house, and we were very pleased to discover the overall experience was better than an outing in Central London. We will definitely return. Only one comment- was surprised that service charge was not applied automatically to the bill. For us was a must to tip the guys, considering we had starters, mains and 2 drinks refills in 1h30min. Myself working in hospitality, I know how hard is to achieve that, so they deserved every penny!

We have been to this restaurant many times. It was very busy so didn’t mind waiting for service.I am vegetarian so there’s not a great deal of choice so I end up eating the same meal each time we go. I ordered soup of the dayFollowed by Sir Henry’s house saladMy husband ordered goats cheese saladFollowed by fish and chipsWe waited a long while for food to brought. I got halfway through my soup then the waitress brought up main course. Put the plates on the table then left. My husband had to rush his first course because his fish and chips would get cold. I eventually started on my main course as my soup was delicious and piping hot, only to discover that I just had lettuce, onion and couple tiny tomatoes cut in halves no avocado! I had to get the waitress to bring me avocado. All so disappointing. It was a special evening for us as our 22 anniversary and we feel it was really spoiled with the service.

Went for a family meal and booked a two hour slot , had a starter and then waited a hour for my main meal , ordered a roast dinner which looked like it had been sitting in the oven all day !! Sent it back out came another cremated dinner , Potatoes were like bricks and the Yorkshire was like a billet , bloody awful !! Spoke to the manager who actually didn’t give a hoot what rubbish they served up , no apology nothing , bill came and they hadThe cheek to charge me for the bad food they called a meal . They make you wait so long to eat so you buy drinks and then they think it’s ok to serve up food that’s not edible ! I then had to speak to manager again to tell her to remove the price of my meal ! Just to add went at Xmas and food was lovely ! I get there has been a pandemic but why do sr Henry’s think it’s ok to serve food that’s not even edible . Very disappointing and would never eat there again !! Poor poor customer services ! Oh and by the way wasn’t the roast I even ordered !!

I am here right now with Jess and Charlie , who are the best in Essex at recommending drinks I have gone through the spectacular gin selection with the guidance of the two people I love the place I will be back Regards Ryan Ahern

Lunch date with hubby. Didn’t pre book & luckily we got a table inside. We did wait a while to be served after being given our menus, but we were told they were short staffed . The waiter took our drink & food order. Within minutes of receiving our drinks our food arrived. The fish was piping hot accompanied with chips & peas. It was very nice. The waiter ( french I think) was very nice, but he was rushed off his feet.A great place to eat, good menu choice & a large amount of outside seating great if you want to go somewhere with your dog as they seem a dog friendly place .. we will be back

Outstanding service from Dan our server. So helpful with his recommendations and at keeping our glasses topped up. The food and atmosphere was amazing. Can’t wait to go again.

We visited Sir Henry’s on Friday and sat in our own fenced off area. We felt comfortable and happy with all the Covid precautions. The staff were friendly and attentive (as always) and the food was amazing. Something for everyone, and smiles all round. Will definitely be returning. Thank you

Went to Henry's on the 30th April. Very well organised, everyone has there own section. Felt very safe. All staff worked very hard and food was excellent as usual.Lots of tables out side. 5 stars 🌟

Lovely ambiance, soft music playing. Food was totally incredible, service fantastic. Menu was extensive, I was spoilt for choice!

I would highly recommend this place. It had been our first time out for a long time and the place had only just opened back up the day before but it did not disappoint. Seating area outside was really thought about and you had your own little area to sit in. Service was a bit slow but that was understandable. staff were attentive especially Charlie. Food was exceptional and to a top standard, worth the money. Can’t wait to go back again.

We visited the restaurant on Friday 4th December at 20:30pm for dinner. We were originally seated upstairs on the right side - however as soon as we sat down we began hearing a loud thumping sound (as if someone was slamming a door closed right below us). We tried to ignore it but it became so jarring we asked to be moved. The waitress didn’t hesitate and moved us to a two seater table on the opposite side - where the noise was more faint. As we sat down the waitress leant over and turned down the radiator that was pressed up again the back of one of the seats. We didn’t think anything of it and sat down to order. After what felt like a considerable wait for our drinks and starters we began to relax. However just as the mains were due to arrive I began to feel very faint and sick. I am pregnant and had made staff aware of this. The heat was the radiator that was pretty much on my back had made me overheat and I had to go downstairs and outside three times for air before I fainted. The couple next to us had also noticed the unbearable heat and commented on this to us.Once my main arrived I had become so overwhelmed and hot I couldn’t eat it and the meal ended with me in tears at the table. The food was to a good standard and if it wasn’t for the dining experience I would have returned.

On Friday night, myself an5 friends dined in the "outdoor" marquee, which was heated and tables at least 3 metres apart so very good COVID discipline.The Food was promptly served, as were the drinks and the price for both was also excellent.£118 for 2 course for 6 people I thought very good value.Staff were very helpful , polite and plentiful and never need to have to wait to get service.COVID rules were obeyed without being too intrusive and I think the manager and his staff to be applauded.

So nice to get out again for a meal , even in these times Sir Henry's is still superb, the precautions taken by the management is followed strictly but does not spoil the evening out. The staff are as always spot on, nothing is too much trouble. Still a great menu and some super "specials" A great night out

We visited Sir Henrys on Sunday 1st November having read positive reviews online. It was a last minute decision so we hadn't booked in advance but the friendly and helpful young Lady greeting guests still managed to arrange a table for us located in the bar area even though they were already very busy.We ordered a Sunday roast and grilled chicken skewers and both meals were delicious. The Creme Brulee we had for dessert was superb. Food was delivered in a prompt and timely manner as were the drinks. One of the best things about our first visit to Sir Henry's though, was the warm and friendly hospitality of their staff. We were impressed by the excellent service from our server and we also had a chat with one of the managers who was very friendly. We will certainly be returning here as soon as we can and would highly recommend it to anyone else. A great place for couples or families.

First visit for myself and hubby. But will be back! Very impressed. I had the lamb shank. Was so nice, it fell off the bone. Staff were all friendly and we were not rushed at all. Lovely atmosphere.

Not quite a good as my last visit unfortunately. Firstly the positives, service is good and staff were friendly and helpful. Covid regulations were in place and well managed. Ordered the special Henry’s lasagne but this was unfortunately very over baked and therefore dry inside. Obviously had potential to be tasty but having been precooked and then rewarded to serve they had dried out the mince. Shame. My friends chicken skewers looked lovely however and I regret not ordering that. Desserts were again a little disappointing. Ordered the special bread and butter pudding with custard. Custard was like warm and had all clearly been microwaved in the bowl to serve as the middle of the pudding was piping hot! The bread and butter pudding had none of the ‘custard filling’ between the layers, again I think an issue with being over baked. It was tasty but not as nice as it could have been. My friends apple crumble looked very nice and again I was left with food envy. Perhaps Henry’s should stick with their main menu as this seems to be much better than the specials in my opinion.I would return as it’s a lovely venue and service is good but perhaps I’ll order more carefully. The outdoor marquee area they were setting up looked nice for a cosy winter drink but we didn’t sit out there as they didn’t have heaters, it was mentioned these we’re going to be put in though.

Service with a smile from the off, and wonderful food. We were having a small lunch and I chose the chicken wings in their own homemade bbq sauce. Oh my gosh, what an incredible bbq sauce - it was so very tasty! Cheesy chips on the side and the portion was plenty. The building itself looked to be full of history and a wonderful collection of trinkets. They also had real wood fires, perfect for the winter months

I have always held Sir Henry’s in high regard previously as a great rustic venue with high standard pub grub. However, the pub was busy on the day of my last visit and we found that there was only one disabled parking space despite the pub having over 50 spaces available. Consequently, we had to push my son’s wheelchair down a heavily pot-holed track from the overflow car park.When I raised this issue with the shift manager his glib reply was that they believe that non-disabled guests would just take up any other disabled parking spots they might mark out so it would be pointless adding them. He instead suggested using off-road areas to park in. When I pointed out that those off-road spots were occupied by vans he just shrugged.Clearly, they are not interested in catering to those with mobility issues. I’ve given them two stars anyway as the venture is lovely in most other regards.

Fabulous meal in a great atmosphere with really good and friendly service. The burger was amazing as was everything we all chose. Lovely setting and would highly recommend, we will be returning soon

Went to Sir Henrys to celebrate my wife’s birthday. The staff were very welcoming on arrival and showed us straight to the table. There was good distancing between us and the next table. There is a comprehensive menu and a specials board too. The service was quick and not intrusive. The food was all well prepared and really tasty. It was a Saturday night so was full but not crammed. Everyone said how much they enjoyed it and we were all full. Definitely be back again.

Loving the new COVID way, excellent customer service, and great food, highly recommend the liver and bacon cooked to perfection!

Have been here a couple of times,recently, once during the week and another for the Sunday roast. Both occasions food was exceptional and we felt safe eating out!

As normal family get together only 6 though last minute great food excellent service great price during these awkward times

Didn't know what to expect due to Covid , The safety measures were in full force nut did not make any difference to the venue , service was perfect and the food could not be better ? I have never been let down by Sir Henrys staff or food PERFECTION well done

We visited Henry’s last week and had a fabulous meal. It’s a beautiful place and has a great outdoor space. They are strict on Covid and are doing a wonderful job. 10out of 10 all round

My husband, Father-in-Law and Mother-in-Law visited today for Sunday Lunch and could not find fault with either the food or the service as both were fabulous 10/10. I have been fortunate to dine at many a fine restaurant across the world. Sir Henry’s has a beautiful warm and welcoming atmosphere with a traditional Sunday Lunch which you would expect at home but without the cooking and washing up! Would highly recommend.

Food don’t get me wrong was lovely however the customer service of one particular lady who seated us was disgusting, as we were stated baring in mind we haven’t been there for 2 years so we asked do we order at the bar or is it table service her reply was “don’t you watch the news” in fact yes I do but places are still letting you order at the bar so there was no need to be rude, then as we were leaving we asked which door to use as there was no one way/arrowing system but as I asked my friend walked out the side door to which the same lady who was rude before said use the other door as I walked out the same door as my friend she mumbled under her breathe “or just do what you want” her attitude was disgusting

We pre booked our Midweek lunch with friends. We had a friendly greeting on arrival and offered inside or outside seating. Opted for outside, seating is social distanced many seats/benches are now under huge gazebo. Heaters are being added for our colder weather. Our waitress was very friendly & attentive.We ordered a sharing sea food platter, cheese chips & garlic bread. It was all delicious. When you make an order from your table outside you pay by card for each order, wether it be drinks or food. This wasn’t a problem for us. We had a lovely afternoon & now we know there’s under cover outside seating we will be going again and highly recommend Sir Henry’s..

We came to eat here whilst staying at the Thurrock hotel. Amazing setting,great food and lovely staff. All felt very safe, we will be back

On arrival I thought this was a very busy place, quite a few people about outside so was hard to safe distance. All ok inside though. Lovely food, friendly staff so a very enjoyable evening was had by all. Was a bit disappointed with the pornstar martini which we had in the jug it was very sweet and just tasted of fruit juice perhaps it would have been better to have by the glass

Visited today with my family for my birthday and from arrival to the restaurant to the end, the staff were fantastic. So helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. They worked so hard and should be congratulated. A fantastic team of people who are doing their job fabulously. Well done, we will be back. Thank you for a wonderful day.

We visited Henry's for Sunday dinner at 5 O'clock. We was met by a very courteous young lady and shown to our seat. The staff took our order in great time. The Calamari starter, sunday roast and the Plum & White chocolate Bread & Butter pudding was fantastic.Good food, great staff, thank you.We will be back soon.

Visited today with friends for a meal around 3pm. Have to say the service was fab and the food yummy. The roast lamb with all the trimmings was delicious as was the lemon cheesecake. My partner enjoyed the same roast and the cheeseboard for pudding, was very impressive. Our friends equally enjoyed fish and chips and the roast beef with treacle pud to finish off. No complaints at all with any of the food and Sue our waitress was so friendly and helpful and made our time all the more enjoyable

My husband and I popped in last week Wednesday, the new govt guidance regarding Covid was followed very well.I ordered a special for starters and it was nice, I ordered a sharing plate of meat as my main. When I started eating the pate on the plate I found a hair curled up in the pate, here is what happened afterward:- called waitress and showed her the plate and she laughed and said oh no! And asked if I wanted to finish the meal. - I asked for the bill, I was feeling really ‘icky’ after seeing the hair in my meal.- The bill arrived with my quarter eaten main still on there at full price, I asked the waitress why it was on there, the response was ‘ because you ordered it, and we have no men in our kitchen and the waiter that brought it over was male’ I asked for the manager.- The manager arrived and asked me how much of the plate I’d eaten and said she’d deduct money accordingly. I explained that I couldn’t complete my meal it enjoy it, she told me about the only having men in the kitchen, I pointed out most of the waitresses were female and that the hair was blond and not black like my own.- She gave us the impression we were just trying to get money off of the bill.Handled abysmally, genuinely just wanted to get out of there and the awful service.my husband and I have been here on a number of occasions and we’ve always left feeling great, this was the complete opposite, the impression I have is when it goes well you’ll have a great time, but when it goes wrong the young, inexperienced staff won’t have a clue.It’s unlikely we will return.

Myself and two friends came for dinner two weeks ago, we were sat upstairs in the back room to the right of the stairs, and our waitress rushed our ordering, took drinks away when they were unfinished, took plates away when the rest of us hadn't finished eating. It was really poor service and she created a rushed and unrelaxed atmosphere. As soon as we sat down the waitress asked us for our drinks and starter order at the same time and we hadn't had time to read the menu, she proceeded to ask us another two times shortly after without even receiving our drinks first. Food was good but really not nice to be rushed out.

Good food and excellent Service. My friend and I called in (neither of us local) after a round of golf last week and we were extremely well looked after by both the young lad greeting people arriving and Sophie our waitress. Two very courteous and friendly individuals who evidently couldn’t do enough for their guests!

Had quite a nice meal at this restaurant with a couple of issues. My wife and my grandson’s girlfriend ordered the special, which was 8 oz ribeye steak to be informed that they only had 10 oz ribeye’s at an extra £2. Each.My grandson had a fillet steak that came with chips, mushrooms and tomatoes. He asked if he could have mash instead of the mushrooms and tomatoes and was charged extra for the mash.I had the fish and chips which was nice.The staff were very friendly.

We arrived on a very windy night and waited outside to be ushered in. We were seen by a waitress and shown into reception, even though we were 20 minutes early. A very nice young man by the name of Charlie showed us to our table and a waitress came to take our drinks order Our food order was taken and we sat and talked and caught up, as you do. Our food was served hot and was delicious. Staff were very polite and courteous and attentive. A very enjoyable evening was had by us all. This was my first visit to Sir Henry’s and it certainly won’t be my last! Thank you for a very enjoyable evening.

My wife was taken to sir Henry's by her girl friends just before her birthday. Not only did the girls make the visit special but Sir Henry's suprised her with a birthday treat for lunch. A week later I brought her here for her birthday, on her birthday.Staff are always helpful as well as polite and do what they can t assist. At the moment, due to Covid and the face protection, communication can be a tad testing. There was a problem in communication for our real but it was very quickly rectified. I enjoy eating here and the occasional sandwich and a pint when walking the dogs is a treat. Thank you

First time here as friend recommended. Amazing food, friendly staff, well organised and kid friendly. Def have the steak and ale pie was lovely. A lovely evening thank you will def be back.

Had a wonderful evening on Friday with friends . Fantastic service from very attentive staff to beautiful food . From front of house service to waitresses including chef could not fault at all . Thoroughly recommend will be visiting again this week with family !

My family (2 kids and husband) and I visited Sir Henrys on Saturday 15 August for our first meal out since lockdown had been lifted. We were a little apprehensive but wanted to support a local business and enjoy some good food. We had heard good things but had not been here for many years. What a fantastic experience from start to finish - staff were all really friendly and welcoming, wearing the required masks and PPE. It was raining hard as we arrived, and a lovely young gent escorted us inside with an umbrella to keep us dry, what service! We were seated upstairs, well distanced from other tables and service was excellent, with someone regularly popping by and checking on us. Food was outstanding (not sure if it was the long break from eating out that made it so good!) and my husband, who can be quite discerning, loved his mixed grill with everything cooked to his liking. The kids loved their meals with a special mention to the ice cream sundae desserts they had - wow! Generous, with proper ice cream - we had to roll them out afterwards!So all in all, a great reintroduction to eating out - on the way out the kids stopped to admire the duck pond and we loved the setting as much as the food and service. So much so, we are coming back with my sister this Sunday to check out Sunday lunch. Cannot wait to come back!

First time having lunch here since it reopened after lockdown and very impressed with the organisation of keeping everyone safe. Greeted by friendly and professional staff, especially the twins and Leigh, who were very attentive to our needs. Meal was delicious as always, hot, fresh and full of flavour.

We came on Saturday 15th Aug. We had just read a FB review and was nervous however all I can say it it was fantastic from start to finish, the staff were extremely attentive, nothing was to much trouble, they worked tirelessly to make sure you were enjoying your evening.The food was amazing, it was presented well and extremely tasty, can't like I lovely the rolo cheesecake ;)To top our evening, one of our party was partially sited and it was raining as we left, one of the staff members Charlie saw us making our way back to the car and run across with an umbrella and walked my father in law back to the car. Above and beyond what was expected.We very much enjoyed our evening, well done staff at the Sir Henry's you have done a cracking job in these difficult times.Thank you.

What can I say... Food was delicious, good portions and prompt. The seafood platter was to die for!Atmosphere was friendly and lively without being too noisy. Our waitress, Claudia, was fab, nothing was too much trouble. If I had a teeny complaint, it would be the heat, obviously being an old building it can't have any air conditioning, it was quite stuffy in there but hey ho, that's summer for you!Can't wait to return 10/10 from us.

Sir Henry’s what can I say.... throughly enjoyed my evening! Staff were amazing and couldn’t do more for you, food was outstanding. We can’t wait to come back, was a lovely atmosphere inside and when we come out to the garden it was still that great atmosphere. Music just in the back ground and what great music it was! We dined here yesterday evening and we were so happy to see the social distancing adhered to at such a high level, such beautiful ambience in the garden where we stayed for a drink before our table was available inside, even though the staff were all very busy what with the government scheme and trying to accommodate other diners but whenever we needed anything there was always someone to hand, even the management checked in to make sure all was ok. Fabulous evening from start to finished, already booked for next week, Thank you Sir Henry’s!!

All credit to the Staff today as we visited with 2 friends, one in a wheelchair. The Staff were amazing & very helpful making us feel comfortable & as it was our first trip out for both couples since lockdown we felt very safe. You can see the Staff constantly cleaning & taking all precautions & explanations of everything too. Sonny & all Staff gave us a very pleasurable experience & food was absolutely delicious. Thank you. Highly recommend!

Me and my boyfriend dined here on the 12th August 2020. All I can say is WOW!!! From the food, to the venue to the management.. everything was spot on!! It has been the only place I have visited and noticed the social distancing taken seriously!! Being as it was a Wednesday night (during the discount from the government) it was PACKED! I expected the service to be slower but wow was I wrong!! I couldn’t fault this place one bit and all staff so lovely and chatty!! A perfect place for a date night, to drinks and catch ups with your friends to family dinners. Will definitely be returning SOON

I ate here with friends this afternoon and had the most delicious lunch. The food was amazing as always. The waitresses were friendly and chatty. We only waited 5 minutes for our food. The grounds are beautiful. Plenty of parking. I've been here lots of times with friends and family for lunches and dinners. I've not once had cause to complain. The food is always good and the staff have always been pleasant and welcoming. If you're in the area I would definitely recommend popping in.

I ate in this establishment last night. The food was ok, but I witnessed a disgusting altercation between a customer and the management.Two of the meals were not bought out at the same time as the other meals, and when the guests complained, all I heard from the management was something along the lines of 'I look forward to reading your reviews', before he manhandled the female guest from the premises.I cannot believe the behaviour of someone in his position.I will say, the hard working waitresses were very good and attentive, but I shall not be returning due to the very poor management staff. Apparently the manager is the owners son, so I expect no disciplinary action will be bought to the badly behaved manager.

Myself and my family visited Sir Henry’s today, despite not having booked and it being busy, they had a beautiful garden area with lots of tables safely spread apart, we were kindly taken to a table outside. Service was brilliant, staff very attentive always busy and on the job! Run very well! Looking forward to visiting again! Thank you Sir Henry’s!

It’s not often I’d think to leave a review for a restaurant, however I felt it was necessary to praise the measures management have gone to to keep the restaurant and outside areas safe! Not the first time I’ve been here, but the first time since lockdown and it didn’t disappoint! Enjoyed a fabulous meal inside with a group of friends last night, was served by a very friendly young man who we couldn’t fault! We then continued on to the beer garden to have a few drinks after our meal! From start to finish everything was perfect. Well Done :) x

Unfortunately the management of this restaurant let down the lovely staff that are working hard to make it an enjoyable experience at this difficult time The ‘owner’ - sonny was aggressive and rude and unfortunately his poor sister had to intervene in a dispute as he escorted me off the premises and shouted at me and my guests in front of a packed garden . He informed me that as far as he’s concerned the customer is never right and he doesn’t have to listen to their concerns or complaints as his waitress had already told him her side. He threatened to call the police and even attempted to put his hands on me - His attitude is disgraceful and whoever’s name is over the door must feel so proud that his son is behaving in this way - Terry your sons a loose cannon and your daughter shouldBe running the show- kind calm organised and apologetic- and in fact if sonny hadn’t had been so quick to kick me out i would have paid the full bill after talking to your daughter So perhaps sonny should pay my bill instead of the waitress who made the mistake ( as your manager suggested she should) it’s a terrible shame as the food was good and well presented and they had worked hard to ensure they were Covid secure -I won’t be returning

So I attended the restaurant that you see before you, enlighten at their high opinion that has spread through close friends. BUT sadly received nothing but grief and sour relations from the maitre d as me and my family was being welcomed in with pettiness. We asked about the new offer from the government. We soon found out that it was only when eating inside the building where corona virus was more prevalent than outside in the courtyard, and we was presented with these spiteful words: we are doing you a favour, we did it out the kindness of ur heart. This clearly was a vindictive comment to inflict pain on to out 2 young children. This main comment was made by a young chap with a Cocky personality an odd sense of humour which surprisingly never made us laugh but rather insulted us. The restaurant is mobbed by people and therefore was far from corona guidelines so rather u was contemplating on booking this place, please refrain with every inch of ur breath, don’t go Thank you

Food and service was great. Everyone was sticking to social distancing outside despite it being very busy.However most staff were not wearing their masks properly. The mask has to cover nose and mouth otherwise there is no point wearing one. What is the point either enforce proper wearing of masks or invest in visors for all members.

pre booked a table a day befor our visit for 3pm, upon arrival we was quite shocked and disappointed to see that EVERY garden table was full, the amount of bodies exiting and entering the building was shocking...we drove around to find a space to park to find none..but not to panic because their was a man directing people into the 'overflow' parking which was nearly at its limit....how this establishment is following government corona virus guidelines is concerning. Because of places like this it ruins it for other restaurants following the guidlines because they will end up being closed down again. I may sound hypercritical that we atteneded a restaurant to then complain, this isnt what im tryinģ to do...we booked in advance hoping that it would be like other places that bear us and walk-ins in mind and allocate efficiently. i just wanted to eat a nice meal and feel comfortable enough that there was rules evidently trying to atleast look like they were being followed.

I came here yesterday 8th august, not my first time as only live local, but i have to mention how attentive the staff was with myself and my friend (we spent a whole 11 hours there) your staff were constant in making sure we had the drinks and food we required, the weather was roasting, but even all wearing black, they had happy faces even wearing the face masks. We had jugs of cocktails and some bar snacks, the onion rings and chicken bites are to die for. With it being just us two we did a lot of people watching, you could see how happy everyone was to be out. The garden has sections with rope around your table so you are in your own bubble but can still chat to the next table like we did. I would like to mention the young girl Holly, she was there most of the time we was, her happy charm made us feel very welcome. Well done to you all in making sure your customers are kept safe and having excellent staff.

Been wanting to try here for ages as I regularly drive past and it always looks so welcoming. It didn't dissapoint!The pub and the garden are absolutely beautiful and it's nice and tucked away away from any bustling towns or cities.We thought we'd make the most of the Eat out to Help out scheme so booked for a Wednesday evening. All the staff were very friendly and accomodating, especially Sonny who was so attentive and helpful with such a bubbly demeanour.As our first meal post lockdown, we were a bit sceptical but everything felt very safe and well thought through.The food was great and the portions huge! Would definitley recommend and will be returning soon!

Amazing pub. The service was top notch. Loved the huge amount of seating outside all round the lovely building and next to their big pond with ducks and a children’s play area. Inside the pub is very nice as well high ceilings and different rooms a country feel to the pub. Roast dinner was about average for a good pub but definitely nice. One of the best pubs I’ve ever been to, and there’s a lot to choose from!

This was my second visit to Sir Henry's and it was simply a fantastic meal the staff were exceptional and the food top class can't recommend enough Many Thanks

First visit and came recommended we were not disappointed. Food and service was excellent, we will definitely be going back. Very impressed.

Was visiting friends in Aveley & met here for lunch. We had 3 courses. The staff were outstanding , we’re very friendly & welcoming. Lovely huge outside area. 2 carparks & a large overflow field to park in. We were staying in a motorhome & the owner even let us stay for the night. Would definitely return as everything was to a great standard.

Was very nervous to be going out to a restaurant type place as been home most of covid. I can’t recommend this place enough. I felt they have taken all gov advise and implemented well but nothing to then make me feel worried or concerned. We went on a Monday afternoon as an adhock visit so didn’t reserve but this was no issue. Hand sanitiser as you walk in, Place was nicely full of customers but equally spread across the restaurant to conform to distancing. Paper menus which you Keep untill you leave incase you then want dessert so you still have a menu. We ordered the burgers (they did state they was out of salad which wasn’t a huge issue) we also see other meals arrive for people sitting near and all looked just as lovely. Service was woth the same person who wore mask but again very polite and helpful and always near by if you wanted more drinks etc. We then also got dessert again food perfect. I had choclate brownie and ice cream partner had apple crumble. Only criticism but nothing serious and prob a personal preference but the brownie could have been hotter. These industries have taken a serious hit of recent and I was concerned to go out but i had nothing to worry about. Recommend this place and I’ll be back again. Believe it is also part of the eat out to help out form Monday so most defiantly be back

Me and my sister were a little apprehensive with our first trip to a restaurant after lockdown eased but we couldn't be more happy with how Sir Henry's have dealt with the changes. We were seated a good distance from the next table inside and the waitress had PPE and was also friendly and helpful like usual. The food was lovely - we both had the sandwiches for lunch and a daim cake dessert. Would recommend visiting here!

Visited last Saturday daytime and then this Friday night, table service throughout when. Ordered chips with our first drink on Saturday trip, finally arrived at the table after an hour and having to ask 4 times.Friday night ordered chips with first drink, when we’d finished our second round and they still hadn’t arrived we decided we’d had enough of waiting and left. We won’t be back

Went in for lunch on 17th July and was very unsure due to COVID 19 and not being out for a while but was very happy with the service, food and how we were able to stay distanced seated outside which was separated but not with horrible warning tape they used plants and garden wire which looked so much better. Great food and service very friendly so will definitely be going backThanks

We visited Sir Henry's last night to celebrate our birthdays. We were greeted straight away at the garden and shown directly to our table. The staff were all amazing and they have done a fantastic job in making sure your visit is as safe and comfortable as possible adhering to social distancing. The atmosphere is relaxing and chilled. We sat in the garden after our meal which was table service and felt like we were on holiday! Our food was amazing as usual. Looking forward too booking our next visit.

Made a late booking for Sunday dinner today and they accommodated me, my fiancé, our twin girls and my son for 1230. I’ve been before but many many years ago before the current owners. Since COVID lockdown has eased we have been looking for somewhere to enjoy a meal out and want to spend our money on local businesses that are independent and Sir Henry’s fit this requirement. What is more is that the staff are so friendly and accommodating and the menu is extensive and varied with a specials board. Starters of garlic bread, goats cheese salad and calamari were spot on. Me and the kids all got Sunday roast which was excellent with a perfect and huge Yorkshire pudding. Loads of meat and the chicken, pork and beef were all perfectly cooked and tasted fresh. Gemma had the steak and ale pie and chips with big chunks of beef and perfect pastry topping. Puddings for the twins was a large ice cream and chocolate cookie which they lapped up and Gemma and Alfie had the Toblerone cake which my son said was the best cake he has ever had! We shared a nice bottle of New Zealand Sav Blanc, Alf had two cokes and twins had fruit shoot each. Total cost before tip was £118 and was worth every single penny. Will be coming again much more regularly and checking out their other American style restaurant in Romford. Great stuff!

We came here for lunch on Friday and I must say how amazingly well they have adapted for the current world we are living in at the moment! The staff were outstanding, so a big thank you to them all! We will most definitely be returning as the service was fabulous as was the food and we felt completely safe and comfortable dining there! Thank you x x

Favourite restaurant in Essex! I love coming to Sir Henry’s as the food is always outstanding the service is just as good! Staff are always so helpful and food is generally pretty quick too. I love the fact it is somewhere you can go for a more casual dine or a special occasion. Even with the new social distancing measures in place everything was still great!

Went to Sir Henry’s for a lunch meal with my family and couldn’t say one bad thing! Service excellent, food excellent and amazing with the social distancing. Couldn’t recommend more.

We went for lunch last week and as usual the food was very nice. Portion sizes are good and value for money. Attentive friendly staff and lovely venue. We will be back again soon.

Cannot fault Sir Henrys!! we came down on Wednesday evening, the procedures that they have in place are great, I felt so comfortable. The staff are always brilliant and go above and beyond to help you, the service was great, and the food was great.. it is so nice to be able to come back down!!

Had a lovely lunch on a sunny Saturday, Caesar salad was amazing! The staff were super friendly and welcoming and the covid guidelines are very well implemented. We sat outside as it was a lovely day. Highly recommend!

My wife and i went to sir henrys last night, our first night out since the dreaded lock down begun. The social distance measures and cleaning of the tables was very good along with the staff who were also absolutely great. My wife ordered the fillet steak which came out perfect.However the vegan side of the vegan/ vegetarian menu was very boring with simple meals like stir fry, pasta (which i had that was totally overcooked), salad, stuffed tomatoes and so on things you can easily make at home for a quick lunch, even the deserts were two options sorbet or fruit salad. it seemed like no thought had gone into it just the minimum amount to tick a box. No vegan options on the specials board either. It seems this menu is out of the 1980's designed for Hippies!Today i looked for an alternative place and found the George and Dragon in Brentwood has a superb vegan menu.Such a shame as we both like the pub.

Disappointing service. We went to Sir Henry’s for Sunday lunch having been several times before and knowing the food is decent.We booked a table well in advance (2 people). When we arrived the place looked very busy and once seen by staff we were told to wait by the bar. We subsequently waited by the bar for 1hr20 (until we finished 2nd drink) with zero updates, completely unacceptable.This is unacceptable without a booking let alone with a booking! They need to manage their reservations better, give a better indication of waiting times and turn people away when they know they can’t manage.It did seem larger tables were prioritised as there were several couples waiting by the bar in the same situation.Furthermore when telling staff how long we’ve waiting and that we’re leaving the response we received was “ok then”, not good enough. We won’t be returning anytime soon. Food from memory is decent but this most recent experience was shocking.
