Hellenic Bakery in Brighton and Hove

We made a special 25 mile journey to visit. Difficulty parking, sat on kerbside which was so polluted. We both had Greek spinach and feta pie very greasy and lacked flavour. We took away large baclava and a kadiefi. Baclava turned out to be a semolina desert no nuts to be seen sold for £4.50 and Kadiefi syrup a sprinkle of nuts and nothing else. All very disappointing and we are Greek.

This is a place that must be visited whilst in Brighton. A great selection of coffees and the cake and snacks are amazing. Very clean premises with pleasant staff.

Very unhelpful and rude staff. Talking to the two young women working there was like pulling teeth. All we got were monosyllabic answers with a dash of arrogance. No 'hi how are you' nor 'thanks and good bye' when we paid as if they hated us for coming into their shop. Just awful.

Visited to pick up some cheese pies. They had a couple to choose from so asked what was the difference, was mumbled at so bought a couple. Was directed to then ignored at the till while staff stood around. Very strange experience. Pastry on cheese pie was very tough. Threw most of it away. Most definitely will not return.

Lovely food and friendly staff. The coffee and baklava were delicious. Recommend a visit to anybody in the area

My husband was shouted at when he asked for a coffee at 6 am by a female member staff who is better at yelling at customers than serving them. We've been told that we can't take a dog in by businesses before, but never in such fascist manner. It was the last time we went anywhere near this place.

This is a genuinely family run business, open long hours, spotlessly clean, and the food is superb. The feta and spinach pie would be my recommendation.

Not straightforward and incredibly confusing. Staff doesn’t help either and is just standing around. After 5 minutes someone approached us and we had to explain that we don’t know how to order and she just starred at us not saying one word. When I asked her for something she misunderstood me and I corrected her in a friendly way and got a bitchy reply saying that she did say that even though she didn’t and laughed at me while looking over to her colleagues as if I was rude to her. Ended up just leaving that awful place. Please get rid of your rude bitchy staff it’s ruining your business.

I went today to have my lunch brake with a friend .I parked my car and when inside to order my food and coffee to eat and relax outside on tables provided. Then I really needed to go to the toilet and I knew that as a coffee place they provide toilet facilities. When I ask them if I can use the toilet staff member advised me that they been instructed by the owner refuse the toilet to customers even everything is back to normal after COVID lockdown. I said am sorry but I really need to go as am eating and drinking here . The staff member said he will call the owner but it’s up to him . Owner arrived, he asked me what is the problem in a raised voice . I answered that I need to go to the toilet. He said - u not aloud. I ask why as I really needed a toilet . And his answer was because I said so. I stated to him that the regulation states that after a certain number of chairs u need to affiliate toilet. When he realised that I know the regulations he claimed that toilet suddenly is out of order. If that is the case then that is not right as per Health and safety for his staff and for his costumers. He was really unpleasant towards me and told me go to coffee shop next door if u want as I do not care . After this horrific experience I decided to report it. I have never wrote bad review or report anyone in my life but when the owner is so bad this has to be addressed so all of u know what to expect.

Stumbled across Hellenic Bakery whilst spending a few days in Brighton - wow looks good from the outside and even better inside. Quality of cakes, sweets savouries, and coffee that are equal or better than you'd find in Greece at almost the same prices. Creme (Custard) slice and a coffee is amazing, as is the feta and spinach slice. Frappe is the best I've had, and cappuccino is very good too and correctly priced for the UK - unfortunately nearly everyone else gets away with charging more (not with me anyway). Got a Baklava tonight to look forward to :-) Staff are friendly helpful, and both very professional in both their manner and way they look. My only problem is I don't live locally, but then again, how could I fit a daily custard slice every day. Go out of your way to visit this place - you won't regret it - it's the real deal!

Fantastic bakery and cafe; incredible range of sweet and savoury treats, plus some Greek goods (e.g. yogurts, drinks). Lovely people, in my experience, too.

I ordered a number of cakes before Christmas and, my mistake, I turned up a day early to collect them. The staff were so friendly though, it was no problem and they were giving away free coffee because it’s Christmas! (I wouldn’t expect this normally, it was just an Xmas thing). Most importantly, the cakes were DELICIOUS and their presentation is AMAZING. Absolutely amazing. Fast becoming one of my favourite places, it’s a great addition to the local area.

hey are weighting biscuits and box together I asked if the weight of the box was included or "yes off course it is ". I asked if that meant that the box was costing me £14 a kg too...."yes of course" So I asked.."if I buy pastries that cost £18 per kg, or £12 etc, that same size box will be charged according to what I want to buy?" ... Once again they candidly said 'yes' I asked to weight the box on it s own and this was 90g. Assuming it was 100g, this meant that the same size box will cost to the public...£1.20, £1.40, £1.80 and so forth. The reply from another member of the staff was that if I wasn't happy with it, they could have put the biscuits in a paper bag. OH GREAT ,I thought... , AND TO ALL THOSE NOT IN THE KNOW??? I asked myself Cunning .... or do the not realise they are actually scamming customers ( bad attitude and poor customer service skills)?
