Spectacular view from our table near the window. Delicious food, lots of choice on quite a fancy menu. They were flexible to change the potato element from truffle mash to new potatoes as I don’t like mashed food. We can recommend the sea bass and lamb dishes. Good portion size. Only downside is would have liked more soft drinks choices, very limited selection and I was driving.

We decided to eat at the bistro tonight as it is our last night at the hotel, we had eaten there 3 days before and had a lovely dinner. Tonight though was a complete disaster, firstly only two of our four meals were correct and the two incorrect were taken away, they were not replaced with the correct meals until after the first two were finished eating !! We were told that a member of staff had keyed in the wrong order. We then ordered dessert and sat and waited, and waited, and waited !! Eventually I asked what was happening with our desserts and was told that they were “in a line and were not forgotten “ At this point we had been in the restaurant for over two hours and had been served one course !! I had reached my limit at this point and requested that if the desserts were not ready that we would have the bill instead. One of the staff apologised and said that the chef had to get the mains out for a party of seven which arrived long after us. Eventually after some discussion, it was agreed that the drinks would be removed from the bill (a lemonade and 2.5 pints of cider Not exactly champagne. ) Such a shame as the food produced by the chef is well prepared and tasty.

Dropped in for lunch. Welcomed warmly, with no wait time. The service was prompt, efficient, and friendly. The food tasted good and was well presented. Combined with the fantastic view it's well worth visiting. They didn't have "John Smith" on tap, but apart from that.

As locals to the isle , we opted to visit the heights bistro for a Sunday carvery. Staff were very pleasant and friendly, the food lets the bistro down . Although plentiful in choice , the taste was bland , salt and pepper shakers a must … How can you serve roast potatoes that are obviously mass produced and anemic with not crisp to them is criminal. The pork was extremely fatty , beef bland and cauliflower cheese lacking cheese … The 2 rating is for the leaks and red cabbage … We don’t mind paying for food when it’s actually worth it … but £100 for 4 people is very high and as locals it’s a shame we won’t be returning. Don’t give excuses that you pay for the view ….

This is a great hotel; rooms are spotless and very comfortable, the Bistro offers amazing views and the food is excellent too (one tiny criticism; the evening menu needs a lighter option). What really makes this hotel special is the staff- every single person we came across was friendly, attentive and efficient. Special thanks to Belinda, she is an absolute treasure and really looked after my 89 year old mum. Thank you so much! We would definitely recommend this hotel and cannot wait to return.

Really good Sunday lunch with family. 1st class carvery with decent fish and vege options alongside. Well cooked meat and generous veg, the usuals plus creamed sweet potato, delicious leek in mustard and cream sauce, red cabbage, all done really well. Generous desserts also; traditional Mess with meringue, open apple pie, banana split and a very intense chocolate pot, all recommended. We didn’t do starters but we really didn’t need them, if they are as good as the main they will be fab. Strongly recommend this, it was quiet as well, and of course the amazing view. Service was friendly efficient and unobtrusive

Visited with two couples and another friend. Under the hotel sign it says, 'Open to Non Residents' but upon entry we were rudely told we were not allowed into the bar and it was residents only. I questioned this and pointed out the sign and was rudely told that we were not welcome. Odd as the place was so quiet it didn't look like it could afford to turn away paying customers.

Lovely stunning hotel but the restaurant let's it down unfortunately! Set menu with mostly meat dishes and only one dish I could actually eat. Same with Mum being a vegetarian. Next night to avoid eating the same thing again we get food from elsewhere but sadly refused the right to sit in the restaurant to enjoy the views. It was freezing cold out and we paid for a hotel with stunning views for a reason. Watching the sunset was something we planned for Mum's birthday, but ended up going back to our rooms as there's nowhere else to enjoy the views. We would have been more than happy sitting in another part (round the corner away from everyone for the sake of their reputation) or using their plates etc, noone would have even known! Silly really but will probably not eating there again! Breakfast was lovely, just the dinner menu and the lady managers service on the evening of 4th March that were an issue.

It's just ok. Rooms a bit tired and curtains from the 80s. I didn't like the amount of of concrete internally and externally but that is personal choice. Evening restaurant food was ok, not brilliant to be honest and service v slow the night we ate. All staff we encountered were friendly and helpful. View from dining room sensational and breakfast was good, we would give that 8/10.

This hotel has fantastic views and their approach to Covid rules was excellent making us feel very safe . Room with verandah was very adequate albeit the bathroom on the small side and everything very clean. No tea coffee making facilities in room although they were free in reception 24/7 . Not a problem for us as we were close to reception . The one thing that lets this hotel down is its food . Breakfast was adequate but the evening meals were a let down . Menu is uninspiring and cooking was not great . We ate there for first two nights of a four night break but had to eat out the other two nights . The staff in hotel were very good and deserve better than the food being served up . So much going for this hotel such a pity about the food .

My husband and I had a Heights Afternoon Tea today that my Daughter and Son In Law bought for us for our Wedding Anniversary. The sandwiches and scones were all freshly made, the mini cheesecakes just melted in your mouth and the mini sherry trifles were to die for. Myself, husband, son and Dad were out for a drive and came in for lunch. We waited 15 mins for someone to even acknowledge we were there before being told there was no carvery left, only sandwiches in the bar. Very limited menu (4 sandwich choices) & had to go and ask for a child’s menu. Went to order (3 sandwiches, 2 cokes, a coffee and a child’s lunch box) and the total was an incredible £42!!! We debated cancelling the order but after already being there 25 mins and had a very hungry toddler we decided to continue with the order despite it being extortionate! After waiting 30 mins, I chased up our drinks (!) and after another 10 mins waiting, the first 2 sandwiches came out. Came with a very small side salad, and a tiny portion of crisps. Tried a crisp and they were stale. The bread was hard and stale. Another 5 mins went by and the drinks finally arrived - luke warm coffee. Finally the last sandwich and the kids box arrived. The waitress complained the plates were heavy so could we hurry up as we moved drinks out the way to make room for the last plate. All the bread was stale - there was a mug of something on the side but not sure what it was.. maybe soup? Not advertised as coming with soup so wasn’t sure and looked very oily and unappetising. We sent all the sandwiches back due to the staleness of it all. Opened the child’s lunch bag to reveal salted kettle crisps which are not really ideal for small children, and the cheese on the top of the sandwich had melted. When I pointed this out to the manager she said ‘oh it’s just where it’s been left out on the side’ as though this was acceptable! sandwiches surely should be kept refrigerated! She arranged for another sandwich to come out - this time it had crab on top of the sandwich and had clearly been cut with a knife that had been used for something else as there was herbs round the cut and no herbs in the cheese sandwich! Also, not great in terms of cross contimination - what if my son had had a shell fish allergy?! I waited for 10 mins for the manager to appear to do a refund. Only partial refund was given despite all the issues. The manager couldn’t remember the passwords so I had to wait a further 10 mins before it was finally actioned. A totally surreal and awful experience. I will never go back here and advise others avoid it too. The food hygiene considerations were awful and I will be reporting this to the environmental health department. I’m still shocked.

Odd combinations, not cutting-edge just weird! Way too sweet sauces on meat and veg uncooked not al dente. Makings of a great menu just needs to be less zany. Too much pesto served in vegetarian options, not everyone likes it. Keen to try the banana chutney but served with chicken and sweet potato chips seems a bit scary but not in a good way. Good food done well minus efforts to be risqué may be a better way to proceed. Shame coz generous portions, good service and beautiful location should make it a destination eatery. We decided to pop in with our dog for a drink from the cafe/restaurant area. We went up to the terrace directly outside the cafe/restaurant as there is a lovely view there and we were not sure if dogs were allowed inside. There is no easy way of accessing the terrace cafe/restaurant so we had to wait outside the fire door for one of the waitresses to open it for us before we could enter and buy our drinks. I ordered two raspberry and lemon ice teas which were £3.60 each. After ~ a 20 minute wait our drinks were bought out but were very disappointing. The tea was lukewarm without any ice despite it being called an "iced tea" and had no flavour. There were some lemon slices and raspberries in the drink which were quite nice but this didn't flavour the tea at all. Would have complained but too much effort to re-enter the building. We decided to take our drinks downstairs outside the takeaway ice cream area where it was sunnier. Because the "iced tea" was not nice, I went in to order a vanilla milkshake and was told by the man behind the counter that he was not sure if they did a vanilla milkshake, despite it being displayed clearly on the board in front of the counter. However after pointing this out he made a vanilla milkshake which was lovely, so can't complain about that! The hotel/restaurant is in an amazing area but prices are fairly high for the service and quality of drinks. Please sort out accuracy of described drinks and train staff to provide prompt service and knowledge of what is on the menu.

We have eaten here regularly over a number of years and have always looked forward to our visit - stunning views of Chesil beach, easy parking, good quality food with generous portions, friendly staff, good value cafe/restaurant. Unfortunately this is no longer the case. We visited for a Saturday lunch and chose to eat in the waiter service part of the restaurant as there were no tables available by the window in the self-service section. Despite numerous tables being available, the staff member kept us waiting for some time while she completed paperwork before taking us to a table. This scenario was repeated with other customers and one who dared to start entering the dining area had the 'wait to be seated' sign pointed out to him and waited until he couldn't be bothered to wait anymore. The menu was inviting with some new dishes since we last visited and some regular favourites. We ordered three items, two of which were 'light bites' at £8 each (halloumi strips and jackfruit wedges). These were very disappointing - only 4 strips of breaded halloumi and 4 small wedges of jackfruit - certainly not worth £8 each. The third dish which included an egg mayo sarni, was similarly disappointing. In the past we have been given chunky sarnis with a generous portion of egg mayo; this time it was two slices of medium sliced bread with a small portion of egg mayo - again not worth the price tag. Whilst we were eating, a staff member was taking photos around the restaurant/cafe area e.g. of sliced cake. This meant getting in the way of paying customers - whether sat at tables or ordering/paying at the counter. We were surprised that this task wasn't completed at a quieter time when it would have made no difference to anyone. It was a great shame - poor customer service, poor portion size, inflated prices. It feels like management have taken their eyes off the ball. We shall be finding somewhere new to eat when we visit this area. (Apologies - posted this on the hotel review page before seeing there was a separate page for the cafe/restaurant.)

I am a local resident that visited for lunch. Food was lovely, reasonably priced too for the quality and amount. However I was extremely disappointed to be ripped off when it came to buying two soft drinks. £4 for a pint of Diet Coke from a pump is just ridiculous! I will now be thinking twice about whether to visit again.

Went for a birthday lunch and can only say we were disappointed. Service was slow and food mediocre at best. Roast beef was dry, vegetables cold. The cream sauce for the leeks was just thin and watery, whilst the cheese sauce for the broccoli and cauliflower was congealed and unappealing.

I live up the road from here so my friend and I go often. The place itself is lovely and clean. We have only been during the day for tea and cakes etc but never felt rushed, the lady on the till everytime really is very grumpy but that's whatever haha

I recently had Lunch at the upstairs Bistro and I would Never ever go again . I have had better food in a Cafe . I had so called Caramelised Beef more like stew , on a soggy tasteless Yorkshire Pudding . The Vegetables were served in a separate dish which contained waterlogged Sprouts totally inedible and Cauliflower which was chewy . the carrots were fine I think the Chef was having a laugh at the expense of customers who were frightened to complain .

We chose crab cakes and chicken liver pate for starters, followed by a delicious caramelised beef dish with roast potatoes and seasonal veg from the festive menu. We were so full had to pass on the choc/orange bread and buttter pudding we had looked forward to!!! Excellent meal, delightful surroundings and excellent service. Thank you chef

Stopped here today for "elevenses" whilst on a business tour. Fabulous view from the upstairs café but that's it. Two scones and tea for 2 came to over £10.00. For that I would expect edible scones, jam with some fruit in it and more than one little foil wrapped square of butter. I spoke to the Manager - she offered me a voucher for another visit (not a refund). I declined the voucher as I have no desire to eat there again.

Not sure where to eat, we tried Heights Hotel, fantastic food - we had the belly pork which was reasonably priced & extremely delicious. We followed this with. Cheese board, which was equally as lovely.

Great value for money , especially in Bistro with large portions of delicious, well presented food. Good service. All the better with the stunning view of Chesil Beach

Went to The Heights for a meal, whilst staying on Portland. The staff were very friendly, especially our server Sue. She was very polite and friendly, and nothing was too much trouble for her, she is a credit to the hotel. The food was hot and very tasty and generous portions, the roast beef was delicious and so was the trout that my husband had. If I had a criticism it would be that the sweets were a little overpriced, for the size and also choice.

Der Ausblick vom Restaurant über die Bucht und das Meer ist ein guter Grund das Restaurant zu besuchen. Die Speisekarte und die Qualität des Essens sind guter Durchschnitt aber nichts Besonderes.

First visited the restaurant about 2 years ago for the Sunday carvery. Excellent food and good service. In the area earlier this week, so made a point of stopping by again. Slightly disappointing on this occasion. Food arrived quickly - we only stopped for lunchtime sandwiches, which were passable, but it was at least 45 minutes after we'd finished eating before our table was cleared. And on 2 occasions, hot drinks took 15-20 minutes to arrive. I could perfectly understand if the restaurant was busy or they were short of staff, but it wasn't and they weren't. Other than that, the views are spectacular, and the hotel area itself looks impressive.

The hotel looked nice inside, staff seemed friendly but the cream tea was dreadful.

After walking from Chisel beach to Fancy's Farm via footpaths, we took a welcome break for food & drink. The staff very friendly & helpful, sat out side on the public balcony. So it was food with a view.

As a local I have been to the heights on numerous occasions and has always been a favourite for friends to meet up for lunch. However after not going for a while I was disappointed to see how much the menu prices had gone up. This was also reflected by how unusually quiet it was. The food itself was good but nothing special for the cost and puddings were £6.99! It’s a shame as I fear that locals will avoid it and go to other places on the island where the food is great but at a more reasonable cost

This pub is in an excellent location affording nice views across the Harbour. There is a good amount of outside seating. The pub is bigger than it looks and is warm and welcoming. Dogs are made very welcome everywhere except the carpeted areas. The food was nicely cooked and the beer was good.

Lovely place! Great location! 4 adults and 3 children popped in midmorning for drinks and a snack while waiting for others out on the boat. They didn’t have anything snacky available at that time so we ordered some toast and the staff were so accommodating and brought out some little extras for the kids. Delicious food, lovely drinks! All round great experience!
