Decent Jamaican food... A Jamaican would be disappointed - non-Jamaicans I'm sure will like it more.

I went in to eat some oxtail and rice and peas and as I am of Jamaican parentage I expected the oxtail to be cooked down but it was as hard as a rock and when I asked the woman that the meat was tough she basically ignored me. To tell you the truth at £7.00 which is the equivalent to $14 dollars US I expected better. Nevertheless, my review is not about the restaurant but my plate, I was disappointed about it, I also told the food assistant I was going to review the restaurant as she failed to remedy the problem. I may not bother next time because oxtail is a delicacy for Jamaicans and if it not cooked down correctly it’s a BIG DEAL. I hope they give better customer service in the future. Cook the food downnnnn

Come here a couple times a month. I always order their patties, bun, and Hardough bread. All very fresh. I've never eaten their dinners but have heard great reviews. I would recommend.

The food is delicious and i'm fussy. I went there yesterday but was really disappointed. There were 2 African girls one taking the money and the other at the other end of the shop serving the food. They were too busy talking to each other to acknowledge me. I ordered a patty from another girl and left the money on the counter. It's a good job I'm honest. I could have taken it without paying or would have waited in vain to be acknowledged

Patties have no seasoning tasteless, the bun and cheese was rock hard had to throw it away. Never again waste of money!

Authentic, Jamaican meals away from home. 1st Class.

I USED to LOVE this place. Food always was delicious, tasting like it was cooked with care with the finest ingredients. It was very flavourful, not really oily (like some West Indian restaurants) or boney pieces with no meat and cooked down for a long time so the meat fell off the bone. I moved away from London 3 years ago, but went there on the 23rd December 2023 to treat myself to 2 small meals to take away: a curry goat & rice & peas & an oxtail & rice & peas (prices have gone up, so this cost me £20 - as the small meals were £10 each). I received 2 curry goat meals. One of them was half white rice & half rice & peas, as if they wanted to finish what they had. There was a large hard bit of rice, like the bottom of the pot. The meat was full of fat, any bits that were there were so TOUGH it was impossible to eat. I decided to just eat some rice & gravy - then I found a HAIR in it, so I threw it away. I hate to waste money or food, so tried the other meal (thinking I had an oxtail - but that's when I discovered I'd been given 2 curry goats). It was the same thing - and 2 HAIRS in the food! 🤮 Hygiene and cooking has seriously gone downhill. Alarm bells should have been ringing when I went in, there was no queue for the hot food - but a large queue where the patties are. I usually love their patties - but this experience has put me off - as I would literally throw up if I was eating a pattie and found hairs. Because they were in my meal, I saw them, so they didn't go in my mouth - thank goodness. I will never go there again and I had been a loyal customer for years. My advice would be to save your money and go elsewhere. Gross.

Ordered a large amount of patties for a work event, 1 week in advance and was told on multiple occasions they'd be able to follow through with the order. Literally 1 hour before the event starts they tell us they can't supply the patties, not even giving us enough time to find an alternative it's absolutely ridiculous!!

I was visiting the Brixton area for the first time and am Jamaican-American so I was on the hunt for good jamaican food. I found Healthy Eaters in the Brixton Market and it was amazing! Very sweet employees and owner, the seated restaurant area is super cute with great music. 10/10 would recommend!

Visiting London. I must admit the Oxtail and rice I had was very nice, I just don't think it was value for money. I ordered an oxtail meal. I had alot of rice and 4 small peices of Oxtail for £10. The container was small and I was disappointed that the meal did not come with even a bit of veg. Not really a meal..but it did taste nice.

Oh my god, it was one of the most delicious meals I had in the last weeks! They gave us various things to try out, everything was perfect, Curry goat, perk chicken, lamb. The staff is very friendly and accommodating as well.

The food is always good, though the curry goat is sometimes hit and miss. The jerk chicken is spot on. The soups are spot on. Prices have increased dramatically over the last few months. I know we're in a cost of living crisis right now and business is business, but its really expensive for a large meal. And to cap it all - in a world where contact less payment reigns, they've only taken cash for the last 3 months. Super annoying. I only had cards on my last two visits, and didn't bother to go back. Get it fixed guys! If this is how you're moving forward, update your website please.

What can I say, this was some amazing Jamaican food. The ackee and salt fish and the fried plantains were my favorites. The service was fast and the food was so well seasoned. I was only in town for 4 days but I had to go back a second time to get my fix.

oxtail was satisfying, beef patty had quite a nice thyme flavour and the staff were all very nice. lady serving me put loads of gravy all over my rice without me even asking and it’s those little things that i really appreciate 🙏

Listen…. Do your self a favour and meet the wonderful owner and his family. This place it’s 100% vibes great food great staff everything. Don’t get me started on the jerk chicken and peas and rice 😮‍💨😮‍💨😮‍💨 absolutely delicious. All the way from Australia I’m delaying my flight home so I can get one more meal.

Great authentic Jamaican food and drink with excellent service

I had small meal box for £10, red bean rice with one choice of meat (jerk chicken), add extra fee for salad. The food is so yummy, sauce and portion are all perfect, just right amount of rice to meat. I’d love to re-visit next time. Only thing lacking a bit is service, I was standing there without anyone serving for a good few minutes.

Nice little spot to eat! Can get really busy but it’s worth the wait! Always good to eat in, not very big but it’s clean!! It’s cool how you can see what’s cooking in the kitchen. Nice place! Check it out!! Good customer service too!!

What a nice and trendy restaurant located in Brixton Row! Their Jerk chicken is top notch !! The owner and their staff are super friendly ! Definitely will be again to try some other dishes too !!highly recommended.

Jerk chicken - BANGING. Sadly the mad and cheese is pasta topped with shredded cheese and a LOT of it at that- almost too much. And the rice and peas was honestly the most tasteless rice and peas I’ve had - no coconut flavour and no spice, shame

We saw as we passed a gentleman going from table to table, seemingly chatting to the patrons. We mental marked it , went and found what we originally went for and , indeed , returned. We were greeted at the door by the same gentleman, he introduced himself as Stafford, the second part of a GREAT team, his wife Rose being the 'real' BOSS, he pointed her out in their cookery side of the business. We were seated. I requested to know a bit about the business. We sampled four starters, added sides, had their 'in-house' rum punch (which was ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS'. The total price for this experience was TREMENDOUS, soft music in the background..I could talk and talk about the ambience, chilled vibe....etc. All in all , just go and visit. Rock down to Electric Avenue! and then take in some of the best food in London..and definitely London's best Jamaican food! Oxtail, jerk chicken, rice and peas, calaloo, plantain, homemade fruit punch, and homemade desserts (bread pudding, potato pudding, and carrot cake), etc. were all superb! The wonderful owners and friendly staff create a fantastic atmosphere. You must stop here in London and afterwards stop by the vendors at Brixton Market....

So I came to show my French hubby what London food is all about. I couldn't take him saying that British food is bad. So for our wedding anniversary, I brought him to London on an eating spree and I of course HAD to show him some authentically delicious Jamaican food. My my my. We took one oxtail meal for 2 because we'd had like 5 meals before but it was SO good that I wouldn't have minded having a second plate for myself 🤣😅 Yep it was THAT good. Went on Saturday lunch time. Lovely service. Few people around (it was a lobvely sunny day) but my goodness...the food was unreal. The jerk wings (better than anything ive had in Jamaica)...curried goat (proper goat (not mutton)) and the ppper prawns - they look like normal prawns but they're ridiculously spicey / tasty and perfectly cooked. I'm salivating writing this. I will be back.

Ordered curry goat and rice, which was quite tasty. Generous portion sizes given. However, the rice felt a bit dry because there wasn't much sauce with the goat. I'm not sure why it's called Healthy Eaters though because the food is the same as you'd get at any Jamaican food place.

I’ve been to this restaurant in the past and felt irritated mainly because of the queue and the whole queuing system and the way how it just feels so disorganised. I visited today and felt the same way. The crowded shop floor is just nauseating. I feel claustrophobic when inside this place. All I want to do is hurry up and get out and it’s a real shame because what I ordered (a patty) hasn’t been too bad. Their patties are okay. I would say patty wise they’re my second favourite place to buy from. I’ve also purchased bun and cheese in the past and had to throw away as it was dry and tough, basically inedible. I would like to buy a meal from them one day to proper explore their menu but the whole crowd thing I really can’t take it. I walk in this place and feel like I’m in a shoobs. Ridiculous really, I wish the management would this sort disorganisation out. I come in with my children and it’s a total nightmare. After looking at pictures of the food from other reviewers I have decided that I will give this place another try because their food looks nice and really fresh. I will give it another shot but I’m hoping by the time I do so that some kind of organised queuing system will be in place.

I’ve been coming to healthy eaters since I was a child. Today I came in to get what I’ve always loved from them and watched the server fill the box. She heaped in the rice, when I say heaped I mean at least 90% of the box was ONLY rice and peas. She then started to put the oxtail in, I could see that the majority was just gravy and onions. I had to stop her a few times to be like where is the rest of the meat. Baring in mind I spent £40 in there on a few large meals I don’t think I’ll ever come here to order again. I have just opened my box to see I have 4 very small pieces of oxtail on top of the mountain of rice. 4!!! And that’s no exaggeration. To top it off the pieces are mainly bones and dried out yesterday meat. Healthy eaters I know it’s the cost of living crisis but this is taking the p*** out of your loyal customers

Went to get a pattie yesterday. It was not as nice as last year. The sweet potato pudding I bought was horrible and tasted grainy and not moist. The food is usually good, but everything tasted too sweet or too salty, which is unusual. The staff are polite and friendly and service was quick.

Terrible (well not quite) Quite disappointed considering all the 'hype'. Really was looking forward to some delicious Caribbean food from this 'reputable' shop but left dissatisfied and thus compelled to write this. Don't bother folks ( seriously ) Buns and bread - excellent quality, freshly baked but extortionate if you consider the competition, missed opportunity, especially in Brixton. Food - alright (at best), missed opportunity considering the location and the outstanding premises from the outside. Service - Hit and miss! I never blast unless compelled but the service received by one of the members of staff near closing time was horrendous. Precisely 'why' businesses go to dogs (aside from high rents, comp, audience, etc). Just one of those occasions where simple custom or 'apologies we're closing' will have sufficed. Instead, one was told to get out and shoved out the door by one of the staff/nondescript (not uniformed hence) - in all just leaving quite a bitter-tasting nasty experience. Everyone has bad days but this was quite foul. Food 6/10 - (8/10 bun is excellent even at £4-6!!!! Why is it one always feels robbed when buying from such places (for those who 'know'). Service - 0/10 (10/10 - in summer when the right person serves you mind you!!!) but It only takes 'one' and the chap closing the shop is downright foul, with no respect or grace whatsoever. Value 3/10 - like to support local business but it's clear to see where this place is heading with bad apples and pricing like that...serious revision is required, an unpolished gem, shame. 4/10 Poor

Brilliant customer service and the food is excellent and always fresh.

They said 3 pieces but this is just 1 leg n thigh chopped up into 3 for £7.50 don't waste your money people just head to Jerk N park where you get 2 whole pieces chopped up in a big container for the same price. Not going back there again. 1st and last. I usually don't say nothing when the food Bangs but it tasted like oven baked not grilled at all. But staff were very friendly they just need to be more specific with their portions please. And before you leave make sure the food is fall of the bone because the chicken was still tough and sticking to the bone and the curry goat was also tough. Maybe just a bad day for them but I'm sure when it comes to curry goat the meat would be fall of the bone tender. Quality and quantity please.

We.are.going to rock down to Electric Avenue and end up at ten best restaurant serving West Indian foods. My mum used to bring food over the last decade although the owner a passionate and jovial chap as been around longer then that. A favourite amongst the locals,students nurse the working man or Woman, but also gaining a following with local celebrity, people going out for drinks or to the lovely retro cinema Ritzy. Are you still here, like a good surgeon food preparation and waiting for the quality grub. Get on your skates and rock on up to this place. They offer local delivery using lovely yellow bikes, take away and walk ins to deal with customers The decor is unique, attention to detail Vulcan like and the atmosphere is bubbly,fresh like a glass of champagne in the summertime. The food is excellent especially the curry goat and rice which can be served with salad and drinks. L

Hoping it was just a bad batch, seems half the content and half the flavour has gone from the food. Used to be very good. Couldn't stomach the patty without real filing it's just dough. Chicken pieces for the jerk chicken were cut in half, very expensive buy and not tasty.

This use to be my absolute favourite Caribbean take away. Their patties were the closest comparison to the ones in Jamaica (Tasty or Juicy Patty). Today I went there for the first time since pandemic begun and I was wholly disappointed ☹️ not only have the patties gone up in price quite significantly, but the filling has suffered too. I’m all for businesses recouping lost earnings but my god this was BAD. The patty fillings (veg, salt fish, feed and lamb) tasted all the same = cornflour 😶 salt fish was the worst; it didn’t even lay next to a fish let alone had salt fish inside it. All the patty fillings were mushy and tasteless, full of thickening ingredients minus the actual mean/fish or veg. And to think that for a higher price you get less ingredients is shocking. Chicken soup was bland too, no flavour, no pepper, none of the Caribbean flavours ☹️ My all time favourite is now my place to avoid. #upset

Amazing caribbean takeaway, a reliable good meal in brixton. AMAZING CURRY GOAT Finding a good caribbean takeaway can be hard as theyre not always good but this is one you can go to and won't disapoint. The portion is really big, price is standard (£7 small i think and £8.50 large meal). I had curry goat and rice peas and salad. The goat was very tender and flavoursome, the portion was massive with lots of meat and not much bone at all. The patties here are good but a bit more expensive than other places in Brixton at £2. The only thing is theres no menu displayed so you need to have an idea of what you like (they'll do pretty much all traditional caribbean food) or be ready to ask.

Jerk is amazing but the one thing that keeps me coming back is the peppered steak. Best I've tried, make the 1hr commute some weekends just for that.

I was happy getting takeaways from healthy eaters I wish also for the sit down service to return. My meals were mainly fish I went into this takeaway recently to buy fried fish and salad for my lunch. They have begun to weigh the fried fish and charge you according to the weight of fish. I thought this was a disgrace and walked out of the shop. As long as this is in place, I would not support Healthy Eatets.

After experiencing the delights of Brixton we decided to "rock down to, Electric Avenue" (apologies Eddy Grant) and get a meal to take to humble Birmingham. The food was excellent, beautiful smokey Jerk Chicken with light, non sticky rice and peas. The dumpling and Colesaw were great value too. Now have to work out how to buy it in bulk to save on fuel driving to Brixton..🤔😃

Food was absolutely delicious....they don't mask their food with salt. Tasty great natural seasoning. When we visited today, it was so busy... Yet staff were nice to each other...nice to customers and maintained calm under pressure. Reasonable portion size and I would highly recommend their scrumptious food

I came today ordered jerk chick and and rice and beans . I used to come before but stopped cause I I live far now . I was surprised the portion its 3x smaller they cut the chicken in piece now Small container . The rice was dry no flavour The chicken was also flavourless maybe from yesterday I came just for that but never again I’ll looking for a new jamaïcain restaurant

9/10 times I'm in Brixton market, I have to stop by Healthy Eaters to pick up some patties. Best place for a snack imo. Lamb and Beef are strong choices, but Saltfish is my absolute favourite. Fillings are really well flavoured, and the pastry is flaky. Staff are always friendly and service is efficient. Highly recommend a visit!

I regularly visit healthy eaters for my breakfast, ackee salt fish, breadfruit and plantin, unfortunately the portion now consists of lots of onions and peppers and vey little ackee and salt fish, given the increase of price this is not value for money. Customer service needs to be addressed some staff seem to have a couldn’t care less attitude. I have been visiting this take away right from the very start and l intend to continue to support, however the proprietor needs to ensure value for money and and excellent service especially in these challenging times.
