There are so many things to say about this place that are good and so few that are bad that one struggles to even begin laying them down. The interior walls are sparsely decorated with all sorts of oddities, the kind of stuff you can usually find at your local car boot sale. The tables and chairs might've actually been bought there because even trying to balance a plate of food on them is risky business. Nevertheless, this seems to be favoured by most regulars, and personally I find the rickety furniture quite charming. Another notable feature is the coffee shop's layout. It reminds one of the railway apartments in New York, where each room leads directly into another. Any daring customer might want to consider venturing past the bar to marvel at the outdoor seating area, a closet not unlike your typical London bedroom. Luckily for everyone else, the area is primarily reserved for smokers. These, of course, are the coffee shop's regulars; the tribe of people formally known as students; the indie crowd who like to use laptops even though there are signs outlawing computers. Thankfully for the rest of us, their incestuous tippy tapping gets drowned out by the coffee machine blowing out steam and by the constant, happy chattering of some of the staff. The real selling point of this place, however, is the food and drinks. The cheese and onion sandwich is simply outrageous, and the cheese board – only available some days of the week – is very well curated indeed and extremely affordable. What's the catch, you ask? The staff and the indie crowd are one and the same people. Go figure.

Very cosy place near Oval station with great drinks and live Jazz every Wednesday. I've been here a couple of times and the hot chocolate is outstanding, the cocktails are nice and the staff is super friendly. Prices are pretty reasonable for London too. Would recommend! Wouldn't suggest this for laptops though, the new policy is only laptops in the back!

V lovely cafe. Service was great, perfect place for a coffee with a pal. Cheese board for 2 was absolutely huge too. Definitely coming back!

Awesome place but I’m convinced one of the Baristas reuses the same coffee grounds to make multiple espresso shots… Stupid thing to do in this day and age of reviews… have seen a few reviews on here saying the coffee tasted bad and I’m sure on the occasions it tasted bad this is why…

Such a little gem! I went there in the evening when they had jazz nights :) Diverse menus for non alcoholic drinkers, chill vibe and live music. Would love to try during the day.

Very nice shabby chic . Similar to its sister cafe ,scooterworks at Waterloo. Nice coffee. Nice atmosphere and music and staff. I'd love to go in an evening one time to see how it is as a bar. It has the tiniest courtyard. If you've never been to either they are well worth going to. Especially good place to read or write.

Used to come here once a week or every other week. Today was my last visit. Consistencies and service are keys for success business. Today was big disappointment. My coffee tested bad! The server insisted that it’s what I’ve asked for. Shame. As I’m local.

Very nice and chilled cafe. Popped in for a beer, on tap. The place has quite a quirky second hand decor that adds to the atmosphere. The service was friendly and welcoming. I look forward to seeing what the jazz night offers some time. The cocktails looked good too.

Really terrible customer service. The staff are disinterested and lazy. You often feel as though you are disturbing their busy social life if you dare have the audacity to order a coffee. They often completely forget to make your order and spend most of their time just messing around on their devices and chatting with mates.

Where do I start when this place first opened after being a food cafe for so long I fell in love with the place met some very nice barstaff and people in there always went on a Friday after work. Over a year ago now had a run in with a rude barmaid she was new at the time she told me she wouldn't serve me as she called last orders which she never and was serving other people at the time I got upset as I was a regular told her I wasn't happy and I would be talking to her manager. The very next week I take one step in there when a young barman tells me he's not serving me as I was rude and abused a barmaid which people know thats not I'm my nature I go quietly without arguing and even apologise if I crossed the line .I emailed the cafe wanted to know can I go back or am I barred the manager said he look into it but never did very unprofessional and terrible how they treat customer's

We had our engagement party here and the staff were super helpful and lovely! A very relaxed, beautiful and cosy space with amazing sharing boards and cocktails.

Great cafe, fantastic detail on cocktails 3pm-5pm, £7 each. Bit of a shame there are so many people sat on their own with laptops, seems to be the norm these days.

Great atmosphere and loved the toastie, want to come back to try the coffee!

A popular place where trendy people hang out, this is a cool cafe with a lot to offer. We only came for some coffees but it was a relaxing environment. The staff were not the happiest of people on the day, but still polite and helpful. The coffee was good but it took quite a while as each coffee was made individually, frothing the milk one by once.

Extremely unhygienic cocktail practices I repeatedly watched the bar team dip spirit measures into a glass of dirty water(?), in which their own fingers were dipping after handling card machines and other things that the customers were handling. What’s wrong with just using a tap to wash things ?

This is a hidden gem. Stopped by recently and was impressed. I had a toasted cheese sandwich and a cappuccino, both of which were delicious. Reasonably priced, there is also more seating at the back so don’t get put off if it looks a little busy from the outside.

All about the atmosphere. And this place has managed to keep it consistently smooth for years. Big fan. Coffee / drinks selection is very good for a relatively small place. Tasty toasties on offer for during the day. Don't expect overly friendly staff but they do what they're supposed to do well, make good drinks!

I’ve lived in oval for ages now and this is one of the friendliest cafes to open on this street. Staff are lovely and so are the passion fruit iced tea.

Cable Cafe is a lovely chill cafe, their regular jazz nights are fab! Great for coffee too, i asked the barista for a coffee frappe, and he made up on the spot a milkshake with coffee and it tastes great! Fantastic service 😊

Great jazz on Tuesday nights. Get there very early (2 hours or so) for a seat! Small venue and crowded, but still a good atmosphere and cheap cocktails.

Charming cafe with live music and comfort snacks

Being a fan of the Cable Bakery Bar on Bolton Crescent, I thought I'd drop by this location for a coffee today. The lady with medium length brunette hair who made my flat white served me a coffee that was just scorching hot milk on espresso, without any foam. I brought it back and pointed this out, and she told me condescendingly 'flat white doesn't have foam. I can make a coffee with foam, but that's not a flat white, a flat white has no foam.' Any basic barista guide would tell you this is simply not true. I didn't want to pull out google and initiate a confrontation, so I just let her make another coffee with foam. But this second one didn't have proper microfoam either and tasted terrible, I had to bin it after a few sips. I'm very disappointed with this rude and incompetent encounter. To Cable's management: please be more consistent with staff training!

Nice music, fresh Croissant and nice capuccino But service not good at all. When I had my breakfast the caffe was almost empty, only 2 customers and the staff behind the account were 2. They didn't even serve me at the table..to busy to chat about their lives.. the place is dark and looks old and dirty. Not for me..

I've lived in the area for about ten years and the Cable Cafe Bar's been a staple of my day to day for much of that time... Quick coffee on the way to work, a cocktail or a beer on the way back, a croissant on a saturday morning or, by my estimation, a frontrunner amongst some hot competition for toasties in the locale... they've got ya covered. on top of that lot, you can feast your ears on some of this city's most exquisite jazz of an evening, the team are a laugh and nothing but NOTHING has passed my lips on the premises that hasn't been absolutely top notch. I use the place as something of a social headquarters these days but i've also done a fair bit of business in there too. the only thing i wouldn't recommend is the table at the back with the massive hole in the middle of it where there would've once been a sewing machine as you do occasionally run the risk of losing your drink should you suffer a lapse of spacial awareness, but it's still got the treadle and the wheel, which is quite fun for a minute or two, so i guess the jury's still out on that one! Thumbs up from me!

The best jazz place in Saf London. I’ve recently discovered the Cable in Oval and I love it - every Tuesday and Friday there is live jazzzzz. The staff on Tuesdays and Fridays (Cat and Joe) are absolutely brilliant and make the evenings even better. Last Friday they had cocktails 🍹🍸 competition as a result I drank 10 times what I normally would do to make “my fav” drink win and I’m not a cocktail person. What’s a brilliant idea !

Generally. Little... Coffee ok, little in size. Cheese & onion toasty = tasty. But you guessed it, and can see where I'm going with this... little. The main non.little irk, was the attitude of the front guy serving me at the time. An obvious, and no doubt regular faux duh, "getting" the buttons on the little contactless device. Krypton factorish on a service charge question, never have I come across before. To pay tippage, or not to pay? The X button or the ✓ button. Can I phone a friend, ask the café audience? As you will not get any help from anywhere else. So , either you "get" the simplistic, convoluted instructions on the written guide, or you get to be patronisingly shown up, on how stupid you look, because you don't get the simplistic, convoluted instructions on the written guide. Thanks. I like a dash of sarcasm & glee in my discomfort, on my continual lack of understanding. Belittled. Done. Toasty drop. I'm relieved I didn't add a tip for self collection of my little coffees, and your continuous enjoyment of my "not getting it" moment. Most loveliest cafe/bar i've ever been in London!!! Finally a place that actually cares about giving their customer a relaxed cozy experience. The interior design consists of handpicked and well sourced vintage pieces. I get big Berlin living room vibes. So cozy. The staff is super friendly and the red vine good! I live an hour away but i'm definitely coming back. I wish there would be more places like that in London!

Previous encounters were fine today I purchased 7 coffee and received zero customer service! I was given the 7 coffees without any lids wasn’t asked if I required assistance putting the lids on as it was a large or nor did I receive any assistance putting coffees into carriers nor was I offered a receipt! When I asked I was told by the skin Headed lady “you have to wait I’m serving customers”... was she ignoring the fact that I am a customer! She then knelt down in front of me and proceeded to pet a dog of a fellow customer ! She got up from the floor and went to the till returned without washing her hands with a receipt! I never want the experience again! Something must be done !

Unfortunately, I can not recommend this cafe for breakfast. Their sole breakfast (toasted sandwiches) they did not have, & when I asked for some butter with the £2 croissant, the server said they had also run out of butter. Not what I expected on a Sunday morning from a “cafe”.

The Cable Cafe is a magic place. If you may jump in it you’ll be embraced by its charm of a timeless place, with good music, good atmosphere and delicious pain au chocolate. I simply love it.

Not the friendliest staff... The waitress orders you to go to the counter to get your coffee yourself. The prices are high. The interior is dilapidated so you will get the full London experience. Typical Hipster café.

A bit disappointed that the pizzas weren't served at 10pm, when we clearly got in for them (the massive sign on the door fooled us). Had a beer with my missus and left. Beers were average tbh, and not that cheap. Not impressed, but great atmosphere and decor!

One of the few coffee shops in the area. Homley atmosphere with interesting decor. Coffee was very good had double Expresso and Capaccino. Also order two vegetarian toasties. Coffee came first, then one toasty with a long wait for the next, but to make it worse the first one had meat in it, not as ordered. This was immediately take back. They would have replaced it but after waiting so long between coffee and arrival of the toasties we just left. A shame.

Their Jazz Tuesdays are the best! Pro tip: make sure you get a seat ~1 hour ahead of time, because spots fill up very quickly and you'll end up standing otherwise. If you want to have food while you wait, they've never complained when I bring in food from somewhere else, as long as I ordered something from the bar as well. Oh, and watch out for their special guest - the recorder lady!

It used to be a trendy and cosy cafe with retro furniture including a sewing machine. After a long absence, i went back and unfortunately was very disappointed. Sugar is only available in bowls at the counter (no sachets!). After using their toilet, which is frankly very poorly kept, I had a look around the place and had a clear sense of carelessness and decadence. How can a cafè be run like that???

Cable Café-Bar is chilled, relaxed and well placed between a café and a bar. Don't come here thinking it's Starbucks, the WiFi sucks big time, but that's not what people come here for. They come to chill, brink coffee or a bottled beer and listen to music, live music some evenings. They're the kind of small gem that survives on word-of-mouth.

Lovely little quirky café near Kennington Park and Oval to just chill and rest for a while. I love the old school sewing machines that were converted into tables... there's something really soothing about playing with the pedal of that machine. The interior is very interesting - they've embraced the old Victorian falling apart kind of interior, instead of try to repair and renovate everything. It's great! Definitely worth a visit if you're ever in the area.

Came in just to grab a cup of tea before my lessons at Flow studio. This little cafe is gorgeous! Real nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Tea was delicious. Good WiFi and very good decor. If I was local this would be my EVERYDAY spot for coffe and tea. Cakes and croissant looked fresh. Great choice of music!

Stumbled upon this gem while looking for a merchant shop nearby and decided to pop in for a quick bite. Ordered the quiche/salad/drink lunch combo for £7 and was delightfully impressed with the quality of the meal. Best quiche I've had. Highly recommend this place.

Have walked past many times and was excited that it was a Tuesday so it would be live jazz we saw was advertised outside. We arrived at 8pm and both the draft beers hadn’t run out so we had to buy bottled beer. We waited 45 minutes and the “live jazz from 8pm” still hadn’t started so we left. It’s a nice, quirky cafe but a bit disappointed that this was our first visit and the drinks and the jazz both let us down.
