Hay's Cafe in Wealden

Amzing place food is lovely and the people are so kind I usually have the burger and chips and it is always lovely. Hot chocolates are so good and they are really generous with toppings

We stopped here for lunch and the staff were pleasant and welcoming. We soon had our tea and food which was freshly cooked and very tasty. A nice place to eat.

After avoiding this place for a while we decided to give it another try. There were 5 of us, 2 of us went to the counter to order, we were served by a young lady with glasses, she was very pleasant but seemed very confused about taking 2 orders separately. The first hiccup was they didn’t have scampi, so I returned to the table so my friend could choose something different. We eventually managed to give the young girl our orders, soon after we sat down our drinks were brought to the table. 30 minutes later, after watching people around us, come in, order and get food, we decided to ask where ours was. The young lady said it was on its way! We eventually got our food, as people around us who followed us in had finished their meals. There was another lady with short hair and my uncle questioned her about why we had been forgotten, she responded that they were very busy! This does not explain others who arrived after us eating and leaving before we got served. Now I know mistakes happen, but an apology for keeping us waiting might have prevented me writing this. Instead we were fobbed off with excuses. If something goes wrong, the staff should at the very least own the mistake and apologise. I felt as if we were ignored, then a feeble excuse was made. Never again.

Not living in Hailsham, I used Tripadvisor #7 as I was looking for a cafe to do a pick up of bacon & egg butties, to take to my daughter & family as a surprise brunch. I got a friendly confirmation that they do collections. And they gave me good directions (free parking) The bacon & egg baguette was delicious - well wrapped and hot with the egg still soft set. (Devine). I was offered sauces to take with me & napkins enclosed. The cafe was packed with customers which is always a good sign. I will definitely be back as Will my daughter & her family. Thank you for a great brunch!

We go in here on a regular basis to meet friends for coffee, it is delicious. We sometimes have food that is also good value and very tasty. Now some people reading may not agree, but there is quite often an elderly man in there who absolutely stinks of dried wee, and worse. His clothes are dirty and he looks unwashed. The staff are very kind to him, but I honestly think they are losing customers because of this man. The tables anywhere near him are vacated quickly and no one fills them until he has left. I’m sure there must be a gentle way of helping this man, rather than giving him food and drink? Other than that, we love this little cafe. But in future won’t go in if we see him.

I had the eggs Benedict. It was alright - nothing to write home about. I don’t think the chef understood how to serve Hollondaise sauce because my plate was swimming in this rich and creamy sauce. A small amount over the top would have been more applicable and palatable. Otherwise, it was good stuff. My other half had a small breakfast consisting of scrambled eggs, sausages, hash browns and bacon. This was really good stuff. Sausages were of nice quality ( not catering sausages). Perfectly cooked back bacon. Crispy hash browns. Job well done, indeed. We will revisit, however I shall be avoiding the eggs Benedict - which is a shame, because it is my absolute favourite breakfast pleasure.

Always a warm welcome staff very friendly the food is fantastic plenty on the plate you won't be disappointed we gp there every Saturday morning highly recommended different foods and drinks to choose from

Our daughter has just moved to Hailsham and ate here with her carers on her first day after coming across this cafe late afternoon. We had a selection of meals, vegetarian and non vegetarian. We all really enjoyed the food and was all freshly cooked. The owners/staff were very friendly and our daughter told them how much she enjoyed her meal.

just had a jacket and prawns. So much and salad was great value for money The coffee was good i had two cups The staff🥰lovely

Ordered 3 breakfasts and waited over an hour and a half. Tried phoning restaurant which was engaged/off the hook (and still is). Decided to drive down to see what was happening to see restaurant basically empty and my order got cancelled as I stood in the doorway. Didnt bother to go in and argue as i was completed defeated at this point. I should never have to drive to the restaurant to find out what's happening with my order. Totally unacceptable and won't ever be ordering / wasting my day on this cafe again. Such a shame.

Scrambled eggs were white, with not even a slight hint of yellow. Tasted & looked like powdered egg. Ordered a tea & it came with three quarters full of milk, not much sign of tea in it. Asked the guy for another tea & he brings out another tea bag to put into my mug of luke warm milk, which did nothing for it. Just poor attitude not wanting to replace the entire cup. Bubble & squeak was soggy & not much taste. Would not visit again, nor recommend, even when starving!

I ordered a delivery they sent part wrong order i rang and they said they would send it out then the owner turned up at my door being very rude and aggressive shame to let a nice restaurant down they have lost my custom

Had the hays special burger and for the price of £10.70 it seems that the burger was bought in very tasteless ingredients were poor It wasn’t worth its money didn’t come with any chips or sides that was an extra charge at the end it came to over £15 what a rip-off

Had a "healthy breakfast" served - "toast is just coming " - had to be reminded for "toast" breakfast barely warm and 3/4 eaten when "warm bread" arrived. Would I go back? No!! Bubble and squeak, had no squeak!! No details were taken for covid track and trace?

We built our own breakfast and it was lovely, arrived in good time but not too quickly so could tell it was mostly freshly cooked. Good quality meat, eggs and really tasty hash browns. Coffee was decent, didn’t have any dairy-free milk options but could drink it black as it wasn’t bad quality. My partner had a mocha and was more than happy with it. We had two very big breakfasts, two coffees, an orange juice and an apple juice. Total cost would have been £26, but as they were part of the ‘eat out, to help out’ scheme it came to £13.Staff were polite and helpful. Other food that was being brought out looked lovely and we will definitely come back to try something else.Didn’t take the pictures until after we had started eating!

Second time visiting here as it's so good I took another friend here. I had the same to eat as before and my friend followed suit.Once again, excellent, fast service and the tastiest omelette. The chips are so good too, crisp on the outside, just how I like them. The prices here are very reasonable and the owner and staff are very friendly. Highly recommended.

We regularly visit hays cafe the food is always fresh and they do great portion sizes, we have tried lots of things on the menu and it never disappoints. The people that work there are also always welcoming and friendly couldn’t recommend highly enough!

Just had a delivery via Just Eat from Hays. A burger and a lasagne with chunky chips and a salad. Portion size was perfect and it came at the time they promised. We don’t have many restaurants that will deliver to where we live so finding this cafe was an absolute treat for an exhausted mum in lockdown! Thank you!

Take away from Just Eat...Just got a take away roast dinner. I am so impressed! The serving size is really good. The food came piping hot and before the time predicted. I requested no carrots and more of another veg that was available and they accommodated that. Oh and lashings of gravy and I got that too. The tray/dish the food was put in was a good size and depth and it wasn’t all smushed together. The price was £9.70 for roast pork. The pork was thinly sliced bits of meat - but for the price and nature of the meal I was more than happy with that. I have attached a photo. I will definitely be using these guys again.

We are from Hastings and regularly visit the cafe at least twice a week with no complaints what so ever,we have tried most of there food whats on the menu mainly roast dinners,also had many a breakfast there with no complaints about the sausages as i believe they are Korkers as i have seen the Korkers advertised on the cafe door. i suppose not every one likes them i do,but if the cafe is always full up they must be doing something right.and what about before the lock down came in he offered 50% reduction on all food and drink to all NHS staff. ( Great Cafe )

Having dined here on many occasions was extremely disappointed with my latest visit had sausage egg chips and beans substandard sausage cheap chips and beans in the past they always served food to a really high standard unfortunately not now the case if it doesn’t improve I won’t be back

visited on a very crowded day. I stood in the doorway and surveyed all the tables were occupied. then a member of staff pointed to the back of the cafe where a table for 2 was available. except that a pushchair was propped up against one chair, leaving me just one place to sit, staff very helpful and made me so welcome. as a pensioner I found the price of the meal most reasonable. was given a plateful along with a mug of tea. yes I will go there again.

Wonderful dinner & lovely ambiance! The staff are diligent & make all their customers feel so welcome! They are so friendly & serve some wholesome food!

Attempted to visit but was turned away as I have an assistance dog (covered under UK legislation to allow Assistance dogs as well as Guide dogs to enter public areas where dogs wouldn’t ordinarily be allowed) the man told me that as I wasn’t blind I wasnt welcome, even when I politely tried to explain that other disabilities exist he repeatedly shook his head, thank you to the lady in the cafe who tried to help explain to the man - needless to say I won’t be recommending this Cafe to anyone

Been here quite a few times food lovely service excellent recommend their quarter pounders good quality burgers on a brioche roll served with cheese curly fries and prawn Marie sauce and chips for around £5 had breakfast and lunches too excellent value for money will return again and again

This cafe defines the quote never judge a book by its cover what u might of seen as a small cafe I see potential in this lovely establishment the curry in wich I have eaten was homemade not to much spice but had a kick the fries was cooked to perfection my family was all very happy with the results of there food

It was after 2pm that we went in here for lunch. It was very busy with lots of people sitting at tables. We went up to the counter and asked if we ordered there and were told yes.

This place only been open for no more than a month-straight away used by people-for either snack or a meal.
